It’s been drama for weeks now with Dame Dash and his teen son’s mother Linda Williams. And after she ignored the judges’ orders yet again to bring her and Dame’s son Boogie to court, she now has a warrant out for her arrest. Dame claims she’s been holding lil Boogie hostage from him and it looks like he was right. This could get even uglier…
TV Fab updates on “The Game” and Tatyana Ali’s new gig when you read the rest…
Rumors swirled a few months ago that CW was moving “The Game” to Fridays. And it’s definitely true. The lineup on the CW website definitely lists “The Game” in the Friday night 8:30p est time and is premiering next month. I mean, damn. If they didn’t want the show they should have just canceled that ish last year when they were heavily considering it. But this right here is just a mess. Boo CW.
Tatyana Ali is starring in this new web series called “Buppies”. Obviously it’s about elite young black women on their quest for love, fashion, and friendship. Yada yada yada. Not sure how you’ll be able to watch or how often, but here’s the trailer:

I recently just started watching the game. I caught a few episodes here and there but what got me hooked was the episode when Derwin broke his leg and the twin(I don’t remember which one plays in the show) went out to get some salsa and ran into him at the grocery store. I’m all hooked now. But I don’t want his new girlfriend to be pregnant! I want him to get back with twin!!!

I don’t think The Game should be canceled. The network jsut needs to make up it’s mind when it should be aired. I think the show needs to be aired on TV ONE.. ( A network that airs all African American sitcoms.. It may just be a sation in the Midwest if you all have never heard of it..??)

The CW came to my job (adv agency) and I had asked them “Why did you change the air date to Friday (for the Game)” Do you know they had the AUDACITY to tell me, “Other shows have performed well on Fridays” Now you know thats BOGUS. Buppies was filmed on locations in Malibu and Los Angeles, wrapped production in June, and is scheduled to be online this Fall. Why the web? It’s an extension of my view of Hollywood.
“It’s kind of like the Wild West out there, and not just for black Hollywood. In a traditional sense, things look bad – there are people out of work, shows aren’t going up and a lot of films aren’t being made, because of the fear of actors going on strike. But I think it’s a real fertile time to stake your claim. With things up in the air, it creates new space for people who are trying to break through, business-wise.”
Making a TV show exclusively for an online audience is the logical step past shipping DVDs. I hope it lives up to those high standards though.. Sex and the City, and Entourage.. Yeah, that’s high standards.
I wish all the fans/hehe for Tasha, would watch my show.. i am trying to start a grass root movement.

I actually like the idea of Buppies, despite the corny name. I looked it up, and Tatiana is also listed as an Exec Producer. Sure it’s an internet series, but web is where it’s at these days with major studios creating webTV content. You see the Games the Networks are playing with The Game… white folks do not care about our stories. So more power to her, for taking some creative control of her career and thinking outside of the box. You can get away with a lot more on the internet than on TV, so I think it could be a bold move. And I’m intrigued by the DL element cuz, sadly, that story line is ringing too true these days.

Anyway the jist of it was that the target audience for The Game will probably not be in the house really paying attention to the tv on a Friday night. I know personally I am at happy hour, making plans, drinking wine, doing my hair..something else. Plus I dont think that Friday night is a top slot for tv viewiers in general. Its not something that networks compete for when trying to get a time. Also its not what it used to be…at one time TGIF was the ish (Family Matters, Full House…) and I personally was in elementary/middle school so being able to stay up watching tv was great.

As soon as I found out that the WB (one of the Whitest networks in the WORLD) and UPN (one of the Blackest stations since I’m not counting BET cuz BET hates Black people) were merging, I KNEWWWW they were going to weed out the few Black sitcoms we have.
I work in media so I know exactly how this business works, and it’s SAD. First they are moving it to a crappy night where hardly anyone is home watching TV, then they are going to complain about the show’s ratings and say no one is watching it, then they will cancel it.
Black people, we absolutely need to write/email the CW and let them know that it is irresponible and insenstive to continously cancel positive Black shows. If we don’t, then we will sit back and watch all of our shows disappear and be forced to watch the coonery that is BET. Anyone up for some 106 & Park?

My first post was erased I guess for telling the truth. The Buppies show looks great to me (Are we lookin at the same trailer??) When I saw it was like damn it’s about time. I wish it was gonna be on TV, but when’s the last time I saw a black person on TV that wasnt shuckin and jivin.
And my co-worker heard on the radio that Taty is EXEC PRODUCER on the show and that Will Smith is producing as well. Again like I said b4 THIS is the problem w/ black people. As someone who worked in television gettin a quality show like this on is slim to none.
If that’s really you Taty (which I doubt) congrats. It looks good and I’ll watch it. I could see how a particular kind of person couldn’t get it, but shoot, do it for those of us who are tired of Tyler Perry and 106 and Park.

it didn’t look any better or worse than the average episode of baldwin hills….
and that’s the problem. i think we need more strong writers, better crafted characters, and better storylines. i am tired of drama, drama, drama especially as it relates to men and relationships. i realize you have to have some kind of conflict in a show, but can’t we do that in a quality production? I did gasp when ol boy kissed due though, i didn’t see that coming! It might work, but build up the characters before you start with the petty dramas.
And is it a comedy? Or a drama? It’s hard to do a successful combination.
I started watching Lipstick Jungle — totally white, which is truly frustrating that’s that my only choice of a drama with female characters and its all-white. It’s frustrating there’s not more to offer black women. It started off shaky, but once it built the relationship with the female characters and then grew with each storyline, it got better. Of course they have a huge budget, so production values will be better. But focus on the story, the characters and the relationships between the women and then build from there.

Tatyana is NOT DOMINICAN..her mother is African American and her father is an East Indian from Trinidad and Tobago!

Why are you so critical? Just because she’s “dark-skinned” she has to be bleaching her skin? You do realize people’s skin tones change with age, weather, seasons, etc, right? And don’t even get me started on you using the term “darkie”! Black people in general need to love themselves and each other and stop tearing one another down. This “crabs-in-a-barrel” and “Light vs. Dark” BS is getting on my everloving nerves!

Just looked it up. You’re right about her dad, wrong about her mother. Her mother is from Panama (making her afro-latina like I said). Either way, my point of her being black still stands.

Tatyana does look lighter I met her in person @ my schl she is more of a light brown she was a darker brown before..but like Southern queen dee said; it may be weather/season related and she also gained some weight which would make her skin stretch and she would appear lighter..n if she is bleaching her skin thats her damn business.who cares.the chick doesn’t look like Michael jackson! BTW her parents are Panamanian and Trinidadian..hence the name Marisol and Ali..her mother is black panamanian and her father is East Indian from Trinidad & Tobago….So she is Black! She is gorgeous but the show doesn’t look too inviting! People we need to stop all this colorism we are one people no matter what shade remember that! OBAMA!!!!

You sound like an idiot. How are you gonna tell what the storylines and writing are like in a 1 minute clip. I’m no entertainment exec but i assume that’s why they called it a TEASER.
And I don’t know what episode of Baldwin Hills you’re watching that looks like that. I definitely feel cheated cause that lil one minute clip ain’t given me a damn thing, but i’m excited about what I see. I think it’s funny that black people will be harsher about black stuff that white stuff. Lipstick Jungle ain’t shit and you know it. But you’ll support trash like that and NOT something like the Game, which is actually a good show.. The problem is you’d just rather be a white woman than a black one.
If they change the title (Buppies just doesn’t seem to fit the show) I’ll watch it. My girlfriend who works at Vibe said she’s doing a story and there’s gonna be a lot of money put into it. But we’ll see. Hopefully you petty crabs in a barrel bitches won’t kill it before that happens.

Somethin about Dame Dash’s life just seems too off brand for me…
On the TV shows, I’m the opposite. Put the Game on the Web and Buppies on TV. That four camera tv format is on my nerves and it’sthe only way they show black people. It’s time for somethin new. At least it looks like it’s got budget and good acting.
