YBF Folks Celebrate Tyler Perry’s Atlanta Studio Opening

The YBF stars came out to help Tyler Perry celebrate his grand opening of his movie and tv studio in Atlanta. Huge move for him and the black community.

Of course Mr. Smith was there.

So were Oprah and Stedman.

But then she busted out crying with Sidney Poitier.

Lots more pics when you read the rest…

The men came with the dapper looks.

Cicely Tyson made an appearance.

So did Angela Burt Murray, an editor of Essence Magazine.

Nicole Ari Parker Kodjoe showed off her gorgeous new haircut while hitting the red carpet with her hubby Boris.

Barry Bonds brought along his wife Lisa.

Tasha Smith hit the carpet looking fabulous.

John Legend and Kimberly Elise made appearances.

Michael Jai White and his wife Cortney hit the carpet.

Malik Yoba hit the carpet solo.

Lynn Whitfield looked fab.

Kirk Franklin and his wife looked fabulous on the carpet.

Patti Patti stole the show of course.

Tyler and his date for the evening actress Gelila Bekele looked stunning.

Even Star Jones looked nice. But it looks like she left her new chef man Herb at home.

Heeey Ms. Jenifer.

Holly Robinson Peete hit the carpet solo.

And so did new mom Terri Vaughn.

Eva and her man Lance rocked the carpet nicely.

I see Ms. Edmunds is still looking hot these days.

Denyce Lawton and Wesley Jonathan hit the carpet separately. I wonder if things aren’t peachy keen anymore with those two.

And y’all already know Nick and Valerie hit the carpet.

And um, who’s your new girl Lamman?

I really get mad at black people sometimes. We will support a Tyler Perry movie all the time but something like Spike Lee’s new movie we wont go see. Sometimes we need to stop laughing at all our drama and deal with a little history, so we can teach our kids about the strong people from whence we came from. The Great Debaters was another great movie that did not do as well at the Box Office. We need to be diverse in our viewing. GO SEE MIRACLE AT ST. ANNA!!! Just so you know, I saw Tyler Perry’s movie also!

I’m not trying to be a downer here, but owning a movie studio seems to be very expensive. Does Tyler really have that kind of money? Owning a production company is one thing , but a studio? Anyone seen behind the scenes of Warner Brothers? And let’s talk about the ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM. His TV show is really not that funny. There are too many bloopers that are aired that should be cut out. I saw one show where they were camping outside and the tree stump moved. Come on now people. LET”S TALK ABOUT THE ELEPHANT. Janet Jackson can not act, should not have been the lead in “Why Did I GEt Married”? Jill Scott was good in it, but Janet was trying too hard. I hope he did not just put every egg he oens into one basket. If he did his ass will be coming back to the broke house real soon. I’m sorry but the elephant is moving people. Just because it’s a blck person giving it to us doesn’t mean we have to take it. Sometimes no cake is better than a half-baked cake. I’m not hating I’m just saying…

Cause I’m wondering what is all that stuff on Sidney’s shoulder. Tyler’s date is stunning. And Midnight, I mean Lance Gross is lookin’ right from head to toe! Dayum he could get it anyday! I’m also lovin Nicole’s haircut, but I’m mad she got a nose job, her shit looked fine the way it was. But at least she got a good one. Who is that in the group picture, he is lookin mighty fine. Even though he’s wearing a wedding ring, sometimes I wonder about these actors and who is really “down”. Cause I know you can’t believe rumors but where there’s smoke there’s usually fire. But be that as it may Tyler is doin’ big thangs…and I’m really proud of him and what he’s accomplished. U Go Boy!

I don’t know how I feel about this story. It is great to see a black man garner success but at what costs? I find Tyler Perry’s movies to be dry and contrived. The one episode that I watched of his television show was one of the worst shows I have ever seen. I hope his product improves.

I really don’t support TP, I think he manipulates the stereotype of a black woman. But the thing is black women love to see “Madea.” I think it sends out the wrong message. It might be just a movie, but you know they see a black obese loud illiterate individual like Madea and think that’s what a black woman is.Like is “Madea” suppose to be the modern day mammy???
I’m not hating I’m just saying…
so true. LOL @ the tree stump moving. I thought Janet was okay but yeah, hope Tyler knows what he is doing. Maybe he got loans from Oprah and Will Smith…

I really never viewed it that way but I really don’t think he does a bad job representing black women…I think there are black women that ARE like Madea. Madea may be obese, loud and illiterate but she is also good hearted and I think there is a message at the end of all his movies. I don’t think Perry is the greatest black director, personally, I think Spike Lee has way much better work but Tyler does open doors and gives young black actors/actresses opporunity that they would have never recieved because of the lack of work in Hollywood. I commend him for that.

Tyler Perry is doing it!!! What an absolutely amazing accomplishment…the fact that it is not in Hollywood is a great business move as well. If I were there, I would have been crying alongside Oprah. All we need now is Obama to take the election and wrap things up for the black history pages of 2008.

Morgan Freeman, Clinton Portis, Jerry Rice, Steve McNair, and many, many more have made it from the backwoods and the Delta of Mississippi. You really can’t judge someone by the things that they do not do if they are trying to help people as they go along. Two people are better than none. That’s two more people that can reach back and help.
It cannot be easy being a celebrity nor a leader. I truly do not wish it on anyone. If any of us had to make 1/8th of the amount of decisions concerning community service and philanthropy like many do, only then would we understand why some decisions are made and others are not.
We truly cannot judge another until we have lived in their shoes.

Nicole Ari Parker looks AMAZING!!!! makeup, hair, everything. Her and Boris are simply beautiful.
Everyone looks great too…
This is a huge step in the right direction for us Black people to be able to have ownership in the industry we heavily invest in…I’m pretty sure TP has his finances in order to be opening up a movie studio which will soon pay for itself several times over in the future. It’s about time, no longer do we have to wait on others to discover us or give us a chance, we can be able to provide that for ourselves…
I like to see black people do positive things and invest in positive endeavors despite the ‘others’ that would like to critize or doubt them for doing well.

ITS BAD ENOUGH THAT WE ARE ALREADY FAR AND FEW IN HOLLYWOOD. BUT TO GET BLATANTLY DISRESPECTED BY ONE OF OUR OWN IS EVEN WORSE. ITS ALMOST AS IF IT IS JUSTIFICATION FOR THEM TO CONTINUE TO DO AS THEY DO…ESPECIALLY IF “OUR OWN” IS DOING IT TO US.

I read about that …he hired some Caucasian folks as replacement
You would be surprised, they always like paying the white folks, but the blacks always have to fight for there money. John Singleton is the same way.
I heard about this on one of the morning radio shows, but I did not hear about the hiring white people to replace them. I believe the reporter said it had something to do with them trying to join a writer’s union that required certain benefits be provided. I will say that they have a right to to seek out the best for themselves, and he has a right to watch his bottom line. See if he has workers that are not apart of the union he can shoot his movies quicker and at a lower budget. I say TP do what you have to do, you don’t see too many white folks or blacks investing in that studio.

WOW. This is truly an amazing feat! Congratulations to Mr. Perry, this man has worked SO SO SO hard to have his dreams come true! My husband will be in one of his films soon! Like most forward-thinking, smart people Tyler cut the DEAD WEIGHT out of his life and kept moving. DEAD WEIGHT is like a cancer and there are a lot of black people that are DEAD WEIGHT. He did the right thing no matter how many people bash him on the internet. The same people he was trying to help are out there spreading rumors about his sexuality (which is none of anybody’s business) and his business practices.
A real SELF MADE man came from nothing and built an empire and all anyone is worried about is whether he is gay or why he plays a fat black woman in his movies. Newsflash, a lot of black women are fat and act like Medea - so what’s the big deal? Self-hate is a mother. Most of y’all know at least one Madea yet you want to act like this is some ficitional character not at all based in reality.
KEEP YOUR HEAD UP, Tyler. Buy a broom because there’s going to be a lot of DIRT flung your way. *Some* of our people hate success because it shines a light on them and it ain’t pretty. The roaches scurry when the light comes on.
Thank you for providing an opportunity to black actors, especially those from the stage. Thank you for keeping folks employed and paying their bills. Everyone else is eating off the white man while you are providing.

Okay well excuse me for being brusque, but it’s late at night and my mouth can get reckless after 12.
First off, I’m happy that a brotha is coming up and owning his own shit, but fuck Tyler Perry! Aside from making shiddy movies, and using stereotypes which most of his fans seem to eat up, what the hell has he done for you? He doesn’t pay your bills, doesn’t cover your health care, so all you radical fans need to chill.
I’m an aspiring filmmaker, a freshman in film school, and all this fool is doing is making it harder for me and my fellow generation of future black screenwriters to pass thru his bullshit. Sure, he may give roles to deserving black actors who constantly get snubbed, but his films lack QUALITY and SUBSTANCE. Unlike Spike and John Singleton’s films, you cannot consider ANY of TP’s productions as timeless. All he does is use ‘Madea’ as his crutch to blatantly demean black women, throw in some shirtless niggaz like Boris Kodjoe, add some Bible scriptures and most of you all watch his films like the motherfcker reinvented the wheel or something.
Sorry for writing a book this late, but dammit, I get very angry when I see someone bullshit my craft (as I’m sure most of you all do too). Filmmaking is something I feel very passionately about, and it makes me mad when talented screenwriters like Spike, John Singleton, the Hughes Bros, and Kasi Lemons after all of their years of classic films, get swept to the side in favor of this country ass coon.
It’s time we wake up from the matrix fam. Like seriously. Black screenwriters, hold ya heads up!

He is showing his ignorance by dating some woman from a strange insane culture that rapes and mutilates women. That woman has so many HIDDEN problems that will only be revealed if he marries her. He’ll be another Isaac Hayes, dying of mysterious causes before his time.
In the meantime beautiful Lisa Raye is single again, Solange Knowles, and a host of BEAUTIFUL black american actresses who he can be with, and expect NO SURPRISES.
His country mississippi country bumpking azz is going to leave the legacy of our civil rights movement to dirty american haters like so many others. I have NEVER known an african man to do right by a black american woman, because their mammies raised them to be american haters.

Notice how Stedman does nothing to comfort seriously depressed oprah. He’s got to be a paid escort. No man lets a woman he cares about cry and carry on like that and does nothing.

I’m with JJ on this one. While I applaud Tyler for doing what individuals like Spike Lee and other successful independent filmmakers should have done a long time ago, I am disappointed at many of his guest for not supporting the writers that Tyler fired just because they wanted to sign a WGA Union contract which would have given them access to: 1) wanted healthcare 2) a pension 3) residuals from their work. Will, Elise, Wesley, Gary Stugis and others are all members of SAG (Screen Actors Guild)and as members of SAG they all are entitled to the benefits listed above.
CAN YOU PLEASE ADDRESS THE NEWS ABOUT HOW TP UNFAIRLY FIRED 4 MEMBERS OF HIS WRITING STAFF FOR ASKING FOR FAIR WAGES, PENTION, HEALTHCARE BENEFITS, AND RESIDUALS VIA THE WGA?

It is really sad to look at the comments and the “crab in the barell” mentality that some of you portray. TP is making strides. His journey was his all his own and look what he has accomplished. regardless of Madea or the bible he is making profound leaps that wil lead to more profound material. To the hateful please work really hard, invest in your craft and build so that you can make your own mark. Congrats TP!

Some people will find negativity in their own grandmama’s funeral. Please just continue your ambitions without tearing down someone else. Furthermore, I don’t care for Spike Lee because he EXPLOITS black people too. He does very little for the community, but loves to put our stories out there as if he is helping us. He contributes to nothing but Morehouse College while he sails in St. Barts, with his light-skin beauty( School Daze anyone?)and rubs shoulders with the Boule, Jack & Jill and other elite organizations that are hell bent on separating themselves from black people. Please study some of ya folks before you appauld them.

Nicole Parker Kodjoe and her hubby Boris are doing the damn thing to death!! Gorgeous!!
Donna Richardson Joyner’s body is on point. Tom better watch his step.
Misses Cicely and Patti are repping the senior set quite nicely. So regal and beautiful.
I don’t know how House of Payne stays on the air - let alone made it to syndication. I don’t know anyone that watches it and couldn’t even tell you when it’s on. When he previewed it (in lieu of Girlfriends!), I wrote a letter to him and the network telling him what a load of garbage that show was. I did like “WDIGM?” and “TFTP” because Tyler seemingly stepped up his game. It doesn’t do Perry any good to tell him his isht don’t stank because he’s black. When he does well, let him know and when it’s a mess, Perry needs to hear that too.
Just a side note: Please Santa, put Lance and Lamman under my tree! I promise I will be a very very very good girl, lol!

I am just glad he is not spending all of his money on jewelry, strippers, and a huge entourage. I would much rather lose my money because my studio went bust than for some of the other reasons some of our folks have gone broke. The studio opening is a historic moment. As for the writers, if they are the ones who were writing for his television show when it first started coming on then they needed to be fired. I sat through two painful episodes before I gave up. It was atrocious. I too hope his product will improve and if his new movie is any indication then I think he is headed in the right direction. With that being said I wish him all of the success in the world. Be blessed!

Are you kidding me? You sound about as sheltered and ignorant as Sarah Palin. Just because someone is born into a culture where people do things that do not follow the norm for Human Rights does not mean that she herself follows those same traditions. The woman could have been born in the States within an Ethiopian family several generations removed from being in Ethiopia. Where is your head? You are spouting stereotypes and blanket generalizations about people that you have had bad experiences with, yet have you met every single African in the world? This is the same thinking process that many racist people used to generalize Black people and peg us as uncivilized and barbaric. Divide and conquer. You are no different in that matter.
And I highly doubt that he would want to be with Solange. He is much older than she is and Solange is at a different point in her life right now. I highly doubt that Solange even wishes to settle down again right now. She probably likes her independence right now and I doubt that she would be interested in TP.
As for Lisa Raye, she’s just getting out of a marriage and relationship, and you think that she wouldn’t need a minute to get herself together? Trust, after going through a divorce, you need time to yourself to get your head together without effin’ up someone. The littlest things can set you off because you haven’t completely withdrawn your emotional investments in your previous relationships.
And you should really do your research before you write dissertations. TP is from New Orleans, not Mississippi. And furthermore, not everyone from Mississippi are country bumpkins. Besides, seeing as how Mississippi is a part of the Deep South, hell yeah we’re going to have country in us. But this is a different matter.
The world is no longer xenophobic. Multiculturalism is at an all time high. So if you cannot deal with that, please find a deserted island to chill on. People make their own choices and just because it may not be what you would do, doesn’t make it wrong unless it violates a federal law. Everyone has their own free will so who are you to judge someone on it?
And to be honest, at times, it’s seriously embarrassing to be an American. Our foreign policies, diplomacy, etc. is shot to hell. Our government has been playing World Super Cop for years and they wonder why so many people dislike them. When you show arrogance, what reply do you expect to receive?
There is a level of respect that everyone deserves until they show you otherwise. I’ve have some bad experiences with people from all different cultures, but that doesn’t mean that I treat all people from those cultures poorly based on my previous experiences. That would be foolhardy and would be me cutting myself short.
Finally, the Civil Rights movement has been stagnant for awhile. The old guard only engages battles that they feel that they can win, while not addressing the real issues that plague our communities. What happened to being proactive? Look back at programs and initiatives that took place at the height of the movement and you tell me what has been done on those levels within our generation today? Get behind and support the communal programs and initiatives that are being organized right now. The only way that they will be successful is if they are smart, organized, and adequately supported, financially and physically.
The fact of the matter is, you have to want something bad enough to rise to the occasion and get it. You cannot help a people unless they wish to help themselves. While there are several people in our communities who just need to be given a chance to make it and are working hard while waiting for that chance, there are others who just want a free ride. I love my people dearly but we all have to have an inner motivation despite external sociopolitical attacks that may be waged upon us daily. We have to determine what it is that we want out of life and strive for it, research, and consistently work hard until we get there.
You can be your greatest inspiration or your worse degradation.

Since watching Oprah winfrey today, PROMOTE a White cold blooded killer who killed his mother and brother, and his book, I am convinced that Tyler has sold his soul to the devil.
Oprah promoted the killer’s book “murder by family” and the white psychiatrist book “dare to forgive.”
SHE DEVOTED HER ENTIRE SHOW TO MAKING A MURDERER WRITER A MILLIONAIRE. HOW SICK IS THAT???
Great black UNKNOWN writers who are professionals get no consideration for being on that show. This is an extremely hate filled sick person.
By giving her money to his dream of owning his own studio, she has done it with the CONDITION that TYLER FIRE his black writers.
Tyler has been greatly loved in this black community until he got involved with black american hating oprah winfrey. Watch Tyler be destroyed for getting involved with her.
Everyone knows she is a black man hater, and will do anything to destroy black men. I’m sorry for Tyler.
I believe the low life is going to spend the ENTIRE BILLION on destroying black men. She is that SICK!
She hated rappers and P. Diddy for getting involved in politics with the “vote or die campaign” so this time she took over and got behind Barack.
Then she got jealous of 3 6 mafia for winning an oscar when she didn’t for the Color Purple and started to working to destroy the rap community, and NOW IT IS TYLER FOR PRODUCING ONE HIT MOVIE AFTER ANOTHER WHEN SHE COULDN’T EVEN WITH DENZEL AND FOREST STARRING IN IT.

I feel sad when I see that our people have yet to learn anything over the past 300 years. Some are upset because Tyler uses Madea a robust black woman but how effective would she be if she were a “slim” young woman with a ghetto a@@ and flesh hanging out everywhere? You hate his movies because you are only viewing them but if you actually listen to the message you would learn the true meaning of judging a “book by it’s cover”. If Tyler is making a mistake it is his and his alone to make. I am happy for his success and who he chooses or does not choose is a decision he has to live with. Don’t be so quick to judge a man until you have walked a mile in his moccasins. By the way how many of you if your work and life were put on display would receive positive feedback from people who you don’t know or don’t know you {the real you} you know the one who’s just trying to make ends meet and not meet the end? Just a thought*

Damn craps in a Barrel HATERS!
Leave Tyler alone! He has made his money, his mark and HISTORY!
Why couldn’t Spike Lee,Robert Townsand,John Singlton and Mario Van Pebbles come together and do what this man has done single -handly?
I mean COME ON!, they were on the scene a full TEN YEARS ahead of Tyler Perry and all have the money. So until Somebody can creditably answer that question, the naysayers dont have S**T to say!!!
I love Spike Lee and his films and have personally met him,
But why compare him to Tyler Perry and his films?
They Both are ground breakers
They Both are Marketing Geniuses
They Both are Black
and They both worked OUTSIDE the Hollywood System
Those are about the ONLY simularties between these two great story tellers.
“Lift up and dont Tear down”!!!!
