So after yesterday’s fiasco of reports claiming Beyonce and her crew stole “If I Were A Boy” from recording artist BC Jean, more info has come to light. According to copyright and ASCAP registry, the song was only performed by BC Jean. The writing credits are given to Tobias Gad (as previously mentioned) and a Britney Carlson.
BUT–we have confirmed that “BC” does indeed stand for Britney Carlson and “BC Jean” is just a stage name. So BC Jean/Britney Carlson IS the co-writer of the track. And we’re told that Beyonce’s camp indeed strong armed BC for the track, and B’s camp did not pay BC for it. Papa Knowles pulled a power play because BC told them “No” when they asked her for the track and all the licenses for it. We’re also told Tobias Gad got paid off to keep quiet about them hijacking the track. Why pay someone off and not pay for the track? Again, a power play. It happens. Oh the drama!
On another note, during B’s “106 & Park” appearance yesterday, she confirmed that her “Single Ladies” video was indeed inspired by the famed Broadway choreographer Bob Fosse. So the similarities between Fosse vids and her vid were not just by happenstance.
Catfight! Young Berg has clapped back at Ne-Yo after Ne-Yo made statements about his lack of originality the other day. LOL at this dude calling out Ne-Yo’s Team Tang status and his turtle head.
Janet Jackson has finally revealed the reason for her cancellations. Chick has been suffering from vestibular migraines, her rep said in a statement, an unusual condition that creates the sensation of vertigo. Hmmm. I’m still going with this as a cover up for her being preggers. Why? Simply because I want her to be preggers. Sources don’t tell me otherwise. But dammit, don’t we all want Janet’s 42 year old ass to get knocked up and have some babies? Or maybe that’s just me…
Janet also says those rumors of her canceling more tour dates are completely false. She posted recorded a voicemail message for all her fans to dial in and here saying that the rumors are untrue and she’s indeed relaunching her tour tonight here in DC. She was even spotted arriving to her hotel last night. And that show she missed in NY the other night will be rescheduled for Nov. 1. All other missed dates will be rescheduled soon. She’s back.

Why are you soooo upset? First of all Beyonce is a great entertainer in that she is a talented vocalist and performer (writing credits aren’t necessary to be considered a great entertainer, duh!) People are saying she should’ve copyrighted the song, but BC Jean did! If you look it up in ASCAP, the only writing credits are to her and Gad. No Beyonce anywhere to be found. That’s cause B had nothing to do with the lyrics or melody or arrangement or anything. I don’t think FOX was trying to “break news” with this story. It’s on the FOX 411 entertainment section, not in the news section. Roger Simon wrote an article about If I Were a Boy being the “best song of Beyonce’s career”, actually. So I think the fact that it’s from FOX 411 is irrelevant. It’s their entertainment section so it’s a mix of good, bad, and gossip.

Also, this was on the entertainment section of FOX 411, which gave the song a very positive review the day before.

II only comment on things that I feel should be heard, and I speak on irrationalities as well as things that are outlandish to me. I have a high word per min speed, so if that what comes out so be it. Of course it’s much easier to read a paragraph of rumors and distortions that brings down our artists in the same manner as racists sites…than something that has truth. You contradicted yourself. You told me to argue some important issues yet, you are arguing the fact that Beyonce stole the song. Please come correct. I also don’t need pointers on voting. A lot of people on here in the midst of their hate need pointers on spelling, proper verb and subject usage, learning not to put God and cursewords in the same sentence especially when criticizing someone else, amongst other things. So I feel that your speech should be directed elsewhere. I am very informed on the issues. As a matter of fact (which I can’t say about others) I saw the Fox News Special where they said that Barack Obama was basically a terrorist, and associated him with radicalism, as delivered by Sean Hannity. Are you up to speed on the bias and racist station that is Fox News? So I know all about politics and then some.
So I’m not twisting the “ish” out of nothing as you say, Im just speaking what I feel should be heard. I don’t believe a song can be stolen when the artists are credited, when Toby Cad of One Republic, came out and spoke on the song he worked on, and when BCJean has not released a statement saying she has. Unfortunately that is the way the cookie crumbles in the business. Maybe this will be a learning lesson for BC and I do hope that she makes it in the business. I did click on the link to hear her music…and she isn’t bad at all. She has a raw voice…good talent.
This isn’t the first time Beyonce has “jacked” a song. I think that is because she has nothing else to offer…her music is starting to sound trite. And the reason why she supposedly “jacks” other songs is because it gives her a different sound. If all of this is true, I would advise her to pay BC what she is owed…because the bigger you are, the harder you fall. And in this business things do have a habit of coming back around to bite you in the @$$.
That is a really good song though…it grew on me. I liked it especially after I saw B’s video. Very very good interpretation of the song. But still…in the realm of jacking songs…DO BETTER B.

This story is so true. There are other artists that don’t write their music, example Britney Spears and Rihanna but they have not been accused of stealing tracks, because they give credit. I will be the first one to admit that I don’t see anything worthwhile in Beyonce as an artist. I will concede that she puts on a good show.
I, personally, can’t stand her voice and when she speaks it is worse than nails on the chalkboard. I feel the same way when Alicia Keys speaks. Some people are meant to sing instead of carrying on conversations.

Some of you are real stupid…as far as I’m concerned once she paid for that song, it belongs to her period. If BC and the next dude did not want her to have it, she wouldn’t have even entertained the thought of recording the song. Do you know the legal ramifications she would face for outright stealing a song.
If they didn’t want to sell the song, why shop it around, why record a demo. This practice is nothing new, it’s only getting all of this attention because BC wants to be an artist and left her version of the song on her myspace. Bee’s legal team slipped up, I would’ve made sure to include in the contract immediate removal of her version from any promo website.
This is like fergie’s big girls don’t cry controversy. She wrote the song with Toby Gad (the guy who wrote if I were a boy) but Fergie didn’t think it followed the theme of her album, so she sold it to bad boy artist Jordan Mccoy. But when she heard her demo, Fergie said eff that and took the song back. Bad boy and Mccoy couldn’t sue her because fergie owned half of the song. Now think of Bee’s situation…

Natasha, don’t know where you are getting your info from, but you are dead wrong! The song was not stolen first of all. Second, the song was Co-Written by BC Jean and Tobias Gad. They are both registered and licensed owners of the track. Tobias Gad shopped the song to Bee, Sony, and MusicWorld, and yes, he had the legal authority to do so! Tobias Gad produced the song for the album. Nothing was stolen at all!

Beyonce is an singer and she’s not required to do anything on behalf of the black community – i respect that. However, that also means that as a black person, I’m not required to be loyal to her just because she’s black. It’s great to see a sister doing her thang, but if you sh*t stanks, it stanks. Her music is very disposable and her ambition is so intense it makes her and her music incredibly inauthentic. She’s very talented, but unfortunately she’s not particularly creative or original.

She also gave money to a couple who lost everything right before their wedding and allowed them to get married in the Knowles Event Center in Houston free of charge. The couple lost thousands of non refundable dollars.

B need to stop stealing tracks or claiming she wrote something she knows full well she didn’t write. Tobias you’re dirty and since it was a co-written song B and Pappa Knowles can still be sued because they did not have full permission from the owners of the song. Both parties have to agree not just one and if BC can prove she said no then it’s off to court. Just like Christina A. did to Kelly Clarkson when she didn’t get writing credits for a song Kelly sang and claimed was hers on her CD.

It is not even about being a Beyonce fan, if it was ANY artist being accused of this and being wronged, it is not fair to allow them to be slandered like this. I know it is a “gossip blog” but seriously, peeps don’t understand how big reputation is to artists. and u guys artists have been doing this for centuries white and black from elvis to mary j they do remakes and remixes most of the R&B we listen to today originated from the black church blues, jazz all of it has a taste of something else the mix is what they call original now something then and now there’s nothing new under the sun just new to the generations who are unfamiliar with the really old stuff
