UPDATE: Beyonce talked to InStyle about her new Etta James role:
“I gained almost 15 pounds to play the role,” Beyoncé, 27, says in the November issue of In Style. “It was way easier – and tastier – than having to lose so much weight for Dreamgirls.”
Her legendary role didn’t only affect her figure, but it also rubbed off on her music. “Lyrically, it’s deeper than what I’ve done before,” the singer, who recently debuted two singles, says of her album due Nov. 18. “I wasn’t mature enough or old enough, or in touch with myself enough, to do this type of album before. I didn’t have the guts.”

I am so excited! Can’t wait to see this movie! I love period pieces. According to the LA Times blog this movie will open in over 800 theatres! This is a huge project. Beyonce has truly transformed into Etta. Love Broady, Cedric the Entertainer, Gabby, and Mos Def as actors too! Can’t wait!

Don’t you sound silly. Ddon’t let the hate blind you. So the only two people in the film who can act are Mos Def and Cedric? Adrian Brody is an Oscar Winning actor, Jeffrey Wright is a Tony Award winning actor. They are both playing lead roles in the film.
People need to look beyond Beyonce playing the role of Etta James, and see it’s a movie about a historic period for African American performers. You haven’t seen a trailer or anything and come quick to judgement. Not only that your opinion is all off. I feel that Beyonce will do this film justice based on what has been said about her role thus far. Either way I think it’s great that she is the executive producer for this film, continuing to bring our stories to light in Hollywood which is rare. So for that I give her kudos.
I will be supporting this movie, as I will be doing for Secret Life of Bees. From the synopsis and early word about this film it is sure to be a holiday treat. And i will definitely be supporting well made black films!

Are singing and dancing movies the only ones that blacks can get into the mainstream theater? I mean, are’t there other great stories written that could portray blacks that doesn’t involve stereotypes? WHAT IS THE PROBLEM…I MEAN I HAVE YET TO SEE WHAT THIS GIRL HAS DONE PROFESSIONALLY TO HAVE THIS MUCH PERSONAL HATE THROWN AT HER. LAST I LOOKED SHE WAS TALENTED AND HAD GRAMMY’S. ALSO SHE WAS NOT BAD IN DREAMGIRLS AT ALL….WHY DO ALL BLACK WOMEN HAVE TO BE COMPARED WHEN ACTING IN THE SAME MOVIE? You make a really good point, unfortunately when you have a beautiful, successful black woman there will always be people trying to hold her back or say she “aint all that” its true hate and they get mad when you call them haters. Crabs is a barrel.

I have a feeling that Mos Def’s performance will outshadow Bey’s like Jennifer Hudson’s did in Dream Girls.
Bey is talented and chick is hot, but her acting leaves much to be desired.

But I guess if she enjoys being pimped for someone else besides her dad. I fail to see why you two don’t see that it’s just a difference of opinion. Just because the majority of people love someone and you get a few who don’t, you automatically assume the ones who don’t are just being negative for the hell of it. That is not always the case, some people love you, some don’t, that’s the reality of life and Beyonce doesn’t get a pass. I am very proud of her success, but that’s not to say that she’s great either. It is possible to be proud of a black woman for her success, but still not think she’s all that fab.
