Ok peoples. The BIG DAY is almost here. Here’s a few things to remember tomorrow (Nov. 4th)--the official Voting and Election Day:
- Lines WILL (not might…WILL) be incredibly and unusually long. Do not get discouraged. Bring your Ipod, drinks, snacks (Baby Zahara style), and your cell phone to check out YBF mobile. If your boss is trippin’, give them a nice warm mug of B*tch Please and carry on to the polls. Real talk. Most polls open at 6am. Jay-Z and ‘em probably won’t be in your area to surprise you in line that day, but oh well.
- DO NOT wear any candidate’s paraphernalia to the polls–it is against the rules in several states.
- Verify your polling place NOW. CLICK HERE to verify.
- DO NOT let a poll worker tell you that you are not registered or cannot vote there when you believe otherwise. Call the Civil Rights Division of the US Dept. of Justice at (800) 253-3931.
- Voting on your state and local officials and issues are just as important as the Presidential candidate. Look up that info for your area NOW.
- Shenanigans are very likely to pop off Election Tuesday. Keep your cool and call the above number for assistance.
- BRING YOUR ID. Also bring your voter registration card just in case.
- You CANNOT vote on Nov. 5th, despite what some people are saying.
- Bring others to the polls who can’t make it there on their own.
- GET EXCITED!
A funny run down of November 5th etiquette when you read the rest…
I’ve been receiving this e-mail for weeks:
There will be a lot of people (some of our co-workers included) who will be afraid that an Obama presidency will usher in the end of days. They’ll be watching us on November 5th (the day after the election) for signs of the end times. To keep the peace and keep a lot of folks from getting nervous, I think we should develop a list of acceptable celebrations and behaviors we should probably avoid at least for the first few days:
1. No crying, hugging or shouting ‘Thank you Lord’ at least not in public.
2 No high-fives at least not unless the area is clear and there are no witnesses.
3 No laughing at the McCain/Palin supporters
4 No calling in sick on November 5th. They’ll get nervous if too many of us don’t show up.
5 We’re allowed to give each other knowing winks or nods in passing. Just try to keep from grinning too hard.
6. No singing loudly, We’ve come this Far By Faith (it will be acceptable to hum softly)
7. No bringing of barbeque ribs or fried chicken for lunch in the company lunchroom for at least a week (no chittlings at all) (this may make us seem to ethnic)
8. No leaving kool-aid packages at the water fountain (this might be a sign that poor folks might be getting a break through)
9. No Cupid Shuffle during breaks (this could indicate a little too much excitement)
10. Please no Moving on Up music (we are going to try to remain humble)
11.No doing the George Jefferson dance (unless you’re in your office with the door closed)
12.Please try not to yell—-BOOOO YAH!
13. Just in case you’re wondering, Doing the Running Man, cabbage patch, or a backhand spring on the highway is 100% okay.
I just want to make sure we’re all on the same page when Obama brings this thing home on November 5th. Now go get your vote on and let’s make this thing happen!!!
LOL.

I would like to clarify the paraphernalia thing. That is not exactly true, the laws vary from state to state. Even if it is a law in your state, they cannot turn you around for it, they can only ask for you to take off pin, cover up, or turn it inside out. They CANNOT send you home and/or not allow you to vote. If you see anyone getting sent home-report it. I myself, voted with an Obama button on my bag. Of course, to avoid any drama, you can forgo the paraphenilia.

Yes that is my biggest fear. Cuz we all know that Gore won that last election, and we know the Obama will naturally win this one, but unfortunately there are still people in this world running our government that will refuse to have a black man running things whether he be mixed or not. And if Obama is not acceptable to them then I don’t know who is. We may never have this opportunity again, so I just hope we see a change!

Just adding to what Natasha said, if someone at the Polls challenges your right to vote, you CAN STILL VOTE! For example, if someone says that you aren’t in your correct voting district, TELL them that you want to complete an AFFIDAVIT BALLOT. This way you can still vote and IT WILL COUNT. It will be hand counted along with absentee ballots and emergency ballots.
GET MOTIVATED & GET OUT THERE B/C IT ONLY TAKES ONE TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!!
Mon, November 3, 2008 3:15 PM
I’m not sure if this was already stated but by law, YOU ARE ALLOWED TO TAKE TWO HOURS OUT OF YOUR WORK DAY TO VOTE. You should definitely inform your employer ahead of time. I do it every election. There should be no excuses tomorrow. OBAMA 08!

Hi
I AM A HUGH OBAMA SUPPORTER!!!! I AM NOT EVEN AMERICAN.(CANADIAN) THIS IS HISTORIC EVENT IN OUR LIVES. I AM SO HAPPY AND EXCITED ABOUT TOMORROW. I WILL BE LISTENING AND WATCHING ALL DAY!!!!
OBAMA FOR PRESIDENT!!!!!!!
IT ONLY MAKES SENSE!
Mon, November 3, 2008 4:21 PM
So, yes it’s so funny how there actually are a few people out there taht need a run down of how important tomorrow is! Have you guys seen The TELL 5 FRIENDS video? I think it’s what made me finally realize the seriousness of this election! Everyone from Julia Roberts to Snoop were featured in the video!
Btw, did anyone know that Snoop’s FATHERHOOD is coming back for another season? And ESTELLE is doing the promo!
Mon, November 3, 2008 4:23 PM
We can do this folks! We CAN get enough votes in for Barack to be the first black President. Think about it… if Tyler Perry can convince us to come out in numbers to make his movies, books and tv shows the #1 in the country, then WE have the power to make Obama President!
Mon, November 3, 2008 4:30 PM
Great info Natasha!!! I voted weeks ago!!! Thankfully in Cali, you can vote permanently by mail.
OBAMA 08!!!!!!

Could I call that number on my boss if she wont give us any kind of time to vote? I mean she has made it clear to us and all the co-workers who work the 13hour shift 6-7 that we would only get the same lunch break of an hour regardless of if its time to vote or not. I want so bad to be a part of history, but she’s making it so difficult, already firing, yes FIRING, several people for even mentioning the election. And she said nobody could call out UNLESS of family death, or physician documented illness (then you’s have to take a whole unpaid week off). Sorry its so long but what should I do yall?
And will we actually know WHO won tomorrow? Im new to this…

Mon, November 3, 2008 5:25 PM
“Whitey” and “Clear” can you not be excited and supportive without being racist? It amazes me how double standard some people can be. You call white people who are not voting for Obama racists yet you use these types of names to describe them. Wow. It amazes me that you all think there would be some conspiracy if Obama lost. Can you not understand that there are people out there that will not vote for him because he is a liberal Democrat and they are Conservative Republican? Can you not understand that it is about who each person can relate to on a political level? I will say that there are a few ignorant idiots that will not vote for him because of his color but they are “Few”. Most people are voting for who they believe will be better for this country. Some of you need to educate yourself better on politics. Yes Gore won by POPULAR VOTE. Meaning that the majority of people wanted him to be president but just because a president wins by popular vote they still have to win the ELECTORIAL VOTES.That is what happened to Gore. He lost the electorial votes. Obama will no doubt win popular votes but he still has to win the Electorial votes. The major flaw in our elections is that our president is not voted soley by the people they are also voted by the electorial college(electorial votes).I have never witnessed blatant racism except on black blogs. There will be a few ignorant whites who chose to use disgusting racist words but never have heard more racism than on this site. “Whitey” “Clear People” You all laugh at it but does it piss you off, make you sick to your stomach, hurt your feelings when you hear a white person make a racist comment? Guess what? It is the same for us. If you want this country to unite stop making everything about race. You all are putting more of an importance on Obama’s race than white people are. I am a White Conservative Republican. I am voting for McCain/Palin because of what they believe in not because they are white. You may not like McCain but my God respect the man for serving this country and enduring a living hell in Vietnam. He was offered the chance to go home but he stayed with his brothera and endured more than you will ever have to. The comments I hear some of you making is unbelievable. And some of you claim to be Christian. Wow. And already know what some of you are saying and will probably write, because again, the “Whitey” and the “Clear” do not belong on YBF. Some of you will cuss me, tell me to leave, and basically use racist comments but know this, I love you all anyways. I love all people.
Take care
Tina
Mon, November 3, 2008 5:29 PM
I’m glad you posted that Tina. I’m trying to explain to my Dad that a lot of Obama supporters know that there are many people who support McCain NOT out of racism. Yes there are idiot racists out there who will vote for McCain but there are many others who will support him who aren’t.
Mon, November 3, 2008 5:32 PM
Obama’s grandmother just passed away in Hawaii according to the Associated Press. Barack was in Florida when he heard the news. (Coincidentally, so was Jennifer Hudson when she her of her family’s tragedy, whose funerals are today.)
Mon, November 3, 2008 5:42 PM
Thank You Claire.
Racism exist in every religion, race, and culture. You can’t hold white people accountable for racism if you are going to continue your hate and bigotry. It can not be a double standard. Hate is hate any way you look at it. Do not classify all white people as racist just like I do not classify all black men as gang bangers.
It is about love, respect and exceptance. What makes this country great is the differences of its people.
One last comments. Not everything is about race. It is about individual beliefs. It is about individual actions.

You’re right about one thing, I am curious to know why a staunch McCain supporter would waste their time trying to campaign for him on this pro-Obama/anti-McCain site?! Wow, are you telling me that my right to free speach is not allowed? I thought that educated and intelligent people have discussions on why they believe what they do. We don’t tell them to “Get the Hell out” when we don’t agree with them. I didn’t come on here to try and sway anyone or to bash you for voting for Obama I posted on here because of the things people are posting. I came on this site for the first time a couple days ago because I was directed here by a link on the Hudson murders. It had the most accurate and update to date information. I came to like this site. Some of the comments on many of the entertainers are very funny and entertainering. But I quickly found out that white people are not the only racists and we are not welcome to post our opinions on a black site. When I came on this morning and there was something on Obama I wanted to read the posts. Call me naive but I didn’t expect such bigotry. The black population are the only ones putting more stock into Obama’s race. This became a race issue only when the black population made it one.It is politics, we vote for who is closest to our beliefs. Did you at any time read anything that talked about why I am voting for McCain? I mentioned McCain twice. To say I was voting for him and to ask you all to at least respect the man for his service to this country.
But I see that I am not entitled or allowed to post on YBF my opinions because I am white. I can also see that if someone doesn’t believe what you believe we are not welcome here either. Wow. Welcome to America.

Take care

You’re right about one thing, I am curious to know why a staunch McCain supporter would waste their time trying to campaign for him on this pro-Obama/anti-McCain site?!
Regardless of whether or not your comments are valid, they just are not appreciated nor wanted on this site.
There is no way that I would go to a website that endorses McCain and whine.
Just take it somewhere else!
I see we have an official troll on this site. There are so many websites that have racist comments geared towards Obama and blacks in genereal, that I am surprised that you have the nerve to bring up black people bringing race in the election. I really despise people like you who go to sites to incite some sort of race baiting. I can tell you now, your so called pleas for freedom of speech will fall on deaf ears on this site. We hear the words of your kind at work, on the trains, on the streets, on tv, on websites, every single day-and that is enough. Go to Perez Hilton or those other sites that like your kind.

No you didn’t sit up there & type, “Welcome to America” as though WE are the oppressors. Black people in this country have NEVER been treated the same as whites since they brought us here in chains against our wills. I personally experience racism from whites EVERY SINGLE DAMN DAY, and every black person I know does as well. This is a website written by a black person, about black celebrities and notables, and it is a place where we as black people feel free to express our opinions and feelings and frustrations about things. Hell, I personally get tired of white people treating me like the dirt under their shoe. So what if I lash out in conversation with my black friends. I’m tired of holding it in. That’s why we die from hypertension and diabetes from holding in all our feelings. Hell, we need a place where we can be ourselves, without having to censor ourselves for “whitey”.
If we are racists, we learned it from your people.

Wow. I see that you blame a whole race of people for the actions of a few. It is very disheartening to see that after all these years nothing has changed. Are you telling me that racism is okay? Or is it okay for you but not for white people? Are you saying that white people can create an entertainment site and then go in and make racist comments. I can guarentee it would be shut down real fast. You have to remember that this is a PUBLIC forumn and anyone has access to it. It would break my heart if one of my children came across this site and was a witness to the hatred here. I have raised my children to love and NEVER would you ever here anything come out of their mouths that was hate filled. My understanding is that this site is to talk about the good things that are happening with successful black people. My intention was not to come on here and incite anger but to make a point that not all white people are racist. I am sorry that you have to still deal with ignorant people but do not blame me or ALL white people for others.
I can see that anything I say will be taken as an attack.
Have a good night

YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO TAKE TIME OFF FROM WORK TO VOTE!
IF THE POLLS ARE NOT OPEN FOR 4 CONSECUTIVE HOURS BEFORE & AFTER WORK, you can take off from work (up to 2 hrs PAID)!!! You have to notify your employer 2-10 days before election day… you probably can challenge this since it seems like you guys voiced this to your boss but she was threatening you guys with other BS.

I’m TIRED of black ppl takin credit for tha ish that slaves had to go through. Black ppl want reparations and all that other shit..for doing what?Absolutely nothing! Why shouldn’t Tina be allowed to voice her opinion? She didn’t sink to racist comments, but yet you did wit tha “whitey” and “your people” reference?? I understand this is YOUNG BLACK AND FABOLOUS…just because it is a site about black folks, in your opinion or your logic, that must mean they HAVE to dislike white ppl and HAVE to support Obama? Well I think with tha shit u wrote, u just proved that peeps are votin for Obama for allt ha wrong reasons!

Thank You very much.I do believe Obama will win and I think it is amazing that he has been able to bring so many people together. But what I am seeing and hearing is that people are ready to blame white people if he loses. Obama will win the popular votes I am sure of it but he could lose if he doesn’t grab enough electorial votes. That is what happened with Gore. Gore recieved the most popular votes but lost the election because he couldn’t grab enough of the electorial votes. This is were our election is flawed. I beleive a president should be elected based soley on who the PEOPLE vote in but that is government for you. They have to have their hand in everything. Do not be so quick to blame white people or some type of illegal action if Obama loses, remember he will probably get the most popular votes but could still lose the election if he does not recieve, I believe, 270 of the electorial votes. I was trying to say that not everything in society is about color.

To me this is reverse racism, as Christians our votes should be lining up to the Word, not to a color. I find it hard to belive that 99.9 percent of the African American community supports everything Barack Obama stands for , and I am feeling like it’s more about race which to me is just reverse racism. Listen i am not here to judge, I am puerto rican and I love this Country, I read some people saying that they are packing there bags and moving if Obama doesn’t win. Give me a break, that’s the problem in America, we take our freedom for granted, but either way whoever wins is still under the hand of the almighty SOVERIGN GOD. Be Blessed.

I voted today and I liked it
Obama & Joe Biden
I voted today, you should try it
Hope Palin will start crying
I waited long but it felt so right
Hope Barack wins tonight
I voted today and I liked it…I liked it.

I am a CHRISTIAN and had the honor to vote for OBAMA! He got my vote because he supports health care for ALL children, tax cuts for the people that ACTUALLY need them, and he has brought cross sections of America together that have NEVER come together before!!! He is only one man but he REPRESENTS THE CHANGE I WANT TO SEE IN AMERICA!!!

Girl sit down! The whole historic moment and purpose for all of the African American community’s excitement and pride went over your head, you don’t have to be black to be respected in here, but don’t say something ignorant. So please take a seat, it is not that serious, I know plenty of people who want to move if that McCain comes into office, he gives two cents less about our community. With that said, OBAMA 08!
Tue, November 4, 2008 4:05 PM
woo – it’s getting heated already. To say that race has got nothing do with this election is either ignorance, naivety or good mixture of the both. Race has got everything to do with it, both positively and negatively. To ignore race and not consider culture or diversity is just as dangerous as using it as an excuse to hate. We are made different to learn from each other and unite us – not to divide us. I got that from the Qu’ran and you know if Barack said he was a muslim… I can’t even finish that sentence!
Tue, November 4, 2008 4:32 PM
The reality is this .. as a black man, I respect all colors we have hardships and can be seen as from many of us as a reason to act the way we do. but if a person is white or purple mccain fan or obama ( btw OBAMA 08 ) there is not reason in this race or season for us to attack or belittle any type of people… so lets disagree or agree but be civil..
Tue, November 4, 2008 4:45 PM
@ shade-centric
Stop kissing up – it ain’t necessary here. I put “whitey” in quotations because I wanted to make a point. I am not about hate, but sometimes I want to be able to voice MY opinion, uncensored. And no, miss smart ass, I personally was not brought here in chains, but I see that a lot of our (black peoples’) minds are still in chains. The long term effects of our ancestors having been brought here in chains are still going strong. Maybe you need to read the Willie Lynch letter, and stop being a house negro. (notice no quotations there)
I am not voting for Barack because he is Black. Had he been a white man I would have supported him. I am voting for him because I agree with his opinions on the issues that concern me.
Tue, November 4, 2008 5:00 PM
@ shade-centric
And I can really tell that you are young, and dumb, by your jumping to conclusions about my comment. I said absolutely nothing about reparations, and I do not dislike all white people. Maybe when you grow up you will get it.
