Beyonce, Jay-Z, Mary J., and Kevin Liles all hit the Philly Promote The Vote block party yesterday:
Looks like B is getting her practice holding and kissing babies at a political rally. We have heard her hubby Shawn Carter is looking to run for Mayor of NYC in the near future. Hmmm….
Diddy hit the stage to promote the vote.

1. Don’t wear any campaign gear to the polls (ie. Obama t-shirts, pins etc). The polls are a “no campaigning” zone and someone could use your Obama t-shirt, hat, or pin as an excuse to deny you your right to vote!
2. Be prepared for a long wait, some precincts are expecting lines up to five hours long. Bring water, food, a book to read, an ipod, a game, whatever you need to keep entertained through the wait. Don’t get out of line, your vote is worth the wait.

all this is nice and cute what these celebs are doing but my question is do any of them vote? are they registered to vote in any state? and you see all these people who turn out for these rallies but half of them dont look old enough to vote and if they are, the majority of them either dont vote or cant. i love my black people but we have a history of getting caught up in the hype but we dont do a damn thing to change our situation. its ok to show up and take pictures at rallies but what are you actively doing to make this dream happen? i voted early (in Texas we have 2 wks of early voting) bc this is so crucial! im so serious. this must happen for not just us as black people but as a country.

you get the best deals with the coupons and in the clearance bins and on the clearance rack! nothing makes me feel better shopping than knowing I got something on sale. I think this is unfair to say about Shawn (if this rumor is even true). Isn’t this one of things Barack is trying to change? So what people have a past. I can relate to Shawn & Obama on this b/c when I got my Bachelors, I had all the employers telling me that I didn’t have enough education. So I went back to school and got my Masters, and then they say “you do not have enough experience.” Like, what the heck?! People always trying to hold others down. Give them a chance to prove they have what it takes. Don’t just write them off from the start. If people did that to Obama he would have never gotten the Democratic nomination.

More Drama at the polls…this is going to be a long day!!!
It’s Election Day, and our Election Protection hotline has been ringing since the minute the polls opened. As of 10am, over 12,000 reports have been logged. Most of the reports involve faulty or inadequate voting equipment and polling place issues, but we have also logged 115 incidents nationally of voter intimidation.
In Virginia, where the NAACP filed a lawsuit to keep the polls open longer, we are seeing several problems. More groups are joining the call to keep the polls open two hours later tonight. There are reports of massive voting machine failures, over two dozen precincts opening late, people being turned away, and voter intimidation.
In Michigan we have received calls about malfunctioning voter machines in at least ten precincts, causing extremely long waits. Unfortunately, the waits are causing some people to give up and get out of line. We will continue to monitor the situation in Michigan throughout the day.
And in Florida, we’ve just received a slew of reports about broken optical scanners and extremely long lines. We also just received a call that absentee ballots were not received at a rehab center for elderly residents.
We’ll be here at the Command Center all day to respond to voting problems in real time. In addition, the NAACP has trained poll monitors strategically placed across the country to monitor 750 precincts where there has been a history of discrimination, and the NAACP Voter Relief team is driving between polling places in the Baltimore/DC/Virginia area offering coffee, water, and snacks to the voters standing in long lines.

NYC is a big city - with alot of problems.
I would want a mayor with some experience - and that’s real talk.
Jay can shoot for the freaking milky way if he wants to - BUT he should start with gaining experience before he runs this city into the ground.
Popularity is one thing - experience is something else.
I say start with a smaller office in NYC and move on from there.
I get that Mike Bloomberg is a business man and he now runs the city - but the jury is still out on how good a job he is doing…and when you run a city EXACTLY like a business you will have major issues -

I would want a mayor with some experience - and that’s real talk.

to Sizta Act: I am not saying anything about Jay’s past as a drug dealer or whatever, but he has no experience in the political arena. When you deal with politics and legislation it is a completely different ball game. that is why alot of policticans have law degrees so they can easily work thru the system. I understand there are plenty of actors who became politicians ie Clint Eastwood, Ronald Regan and others, but just because someone is popular does not mean that they have the insight to run a city or a country., such as Ronald Regan. we need to stop electing people based on popularity and based on what real change they can bring about. that is what i mean about a wasted vote. Jay Z needs to start from the bottom up, like maybe run for city council and prove that he can make change within a certain district. and please make sure he gets some kinda degree like college so he can be able to articulate correctly. just because he can rhymne does not make him a genius.

I think this is unfair to say about Shawn (if this rumor is even true). Isn’t this one of things Barack is trying to change? So what people have a past. I went to Uni to study my craft(fasion design)and i hate to heard celebrities jumping on the bandwagon to make extra money from the multi-millions they aready make!
I just makes it even hard for myself who has wanted to be a designer since i was 5yrs make it.
People need to focus on something (the really wanna do) and work at it not chop and change especially when your are successfull at something already… let some else have the chance!!!

I completely agree with you that he may need to start from the bottom, but all I am saying is if he want to go for then let him! I’m just saying I can agree with comments of inexperience cause it happened to me. If his past is a problem (which I believe it may be, again never said it wouldn’t be). I just said that he wouldn’t have to worry about his past being to the forefront since it’s already out there.

I got up at 6am to vote this morning and the line was line but people’s spirit’s were high…
there was this young boy around 18 or 20 who ws complainig that the line was too long and that he had forgot is ID….everybody started giving him a sermon about how sooooooooo many people have died and got hurt behind this day. I told him that Barack has fought over 2 years for this day and the least WE can do is go out of our way to make sure we do our part in getting him elected….
When I came out of the the voting room, the young brother was in line waiting to vote. I gave him wink…and I said you bet’cha!!!!!

Champagne? LOL. I think they are over excited about Obama, that’s all. I agree though. Most celebrities who run for office are very involved in politics before they run. I haven’t heard of Jay being involved in anything political. I also remember Destiny’s Child performed at George Bush’s inauguration in 2000. I think he will have to prove himself as being capable of being mayor well before running. I agree with those who say he should run for a lesser office first.

My point is Jay Z for mayor needs to be preceded by some deep community outreach and work.

My cousin told me this morning that my grandma voted on Oct. 31 in Mississippi and he said that she told him that it was so many seniors crying in line…even though MS is a republican state, the fact that they get a chance in their lifetime to vote for a black man was what it was all about….

That’s the difference between us and the clear people. They look at what they can do to help each other and get behind them and fill in by mentoring and assisting where they fall short. What do we do? We talk about each other and check about what they don’t know. We will never get ahead as a people unless we help one another.

Oh please! If Jay Z ran for Mayor in you city would you vote for him? I think not and if you would you need your head examined. What the hell has Jay Z done to even think of running for Mayor. He was president of a record label and he did nothing for it.He discovered Rihanna but the only reason she popular now is because of her wanting to change her own image. Jay Z walks around like he is this big businessman and he is not. I would vote for Diddy or even 50 cent for Mayor over Jay Z.
