Our 44th President-Elect Barack Obama gave his usual moving speech tonight. He accepted the votes to become the first ever black U.S. President in history. Check out the full video of his victory speech below:
The epitome of absolute YBFness.

Side notes: While cuttin’ up at an Election Watch Party tonight….I had a few thoughts.First Lady Michelle O. looked all kinds of fierce. Vice President Biden’s wife Jill isn’t so bad herself. Sasha and Malia are killing me with the cuteness. Barack and Michelle looked simply smitten with each other and my girly self loves it all. Michelle’s mama is a fierce one too. Oprah and Jessie Jackson were spotted in the crowd with tears running down their faces. We spotted Andre Leon Talley too…and I’m going to need for him to back up off Michelle. She doesn’t need the tangy turban ish. I’m moved by this election not because a black man has been voted into the White House, but because people finally get the purpose of a President–to uplift morale, be the steady and strong guiding hand in the face of chaos, unify, and be a GLOBAL face for our country–which all leads to us securing our spot as the World’s powerhouse in every way. We no longer had this, so change was necessary. President-Elect Obama was the only candidate who represented that change. He proved it with history making voter turn outs and an unprecedented amount of people who actually began to give a damn. If how he ran his damn near flawless campaign is any reflection on how he’ll run this country–we’re in good hands. I’m excited that the Democrats have complete control of both the House and the Senate. And even more excited my current state of Virginia pulled through in the absolute very end–who said every vote doesn’t count?
Now cue the Jim Jones and let’s Pop some Champagne…

Wed, November 5, 2008 1:43 AM
I cried last night but when 11:00 o’clock hit and they announced that he was the president elect I lost it… such a beautiful beautiful moment… to see people of all races and colors break down and cry… I never thought in my lifetime that this day would come… it has and hopefully this is a sign that American [save for a few idiots] has finally looked past skin color and chose the best person for the job of presidency… Yes indeed we can!!!!
Wed, November 5, 2008 1:43 AM
Today was a great day! I am so proud. I can honestly tell my 8 year old nephew that he can be whatever he wants in life, even the president of the United States!! Barack gave a great speech. It uplifted me not only as an African American woman, but as an American. Today was a great day!

AMAZING!!
We got both the Popular votes & Electoral votes (and by a good majority). Obama also swept the 5 main swing states (Florida, Virginia, Ohio, Penns, NC?). OBAMA MURDERED MC CAIN IN THE POLLS!!
Obama had the most percentage of new voters votes, african americans, and young votes!! He broke records with his fundraising efforts and had so much advertisement (2:1 ratio compared to Mc Cain)
Obama also broke history by being the Democratic candidate to actually get Ohio’s & Virginia’s vote in 40 years!!
Obama also of course is the 1st Black President (well under this Constitution, lol)
Wed, November 5, 2008 1:53 AM

Although Things Wont Change Over Night This Is A HUGE Stepping Stone That Proves We Are Going In The Right Direction!
Wed, November 5, 2008 2:08 AM
and tasha, I know. Democrats here in VA campaigned their butts off for this!! they should get a huge reward for their hard work to sway this state to change colors. It was scary there for a while but it happened, and those volunteers devoted a ton of their time and efforts to make it possible.
To all of those who helped out and to those that constantly made sure we knew when, where, and how to vote I give you all props. you helped with make this possible.
Wed, November 5, 2008 2:10 AM
All the prayers man.. God made it possible!!! Took a 9/11 episode, war in Iraq, Financial crisis, a messed up Pres and we made it!

This is my first time commenting, so hey everybody!
Anyway, I am so proud right now. I was doing everything I could to stay busy during the results, but when they announced that Obama won, I LOST it. I started screaming and shouting and praising the Lord, I thought I woke my neighbor, but she was coming over to celebrate. I shook my braids loose and gave myself a headache.
But, God is so good and I knew that I would see this day. I had faith and I knew it! But, still to actually witness it, is just overwhelming. Let us pray for the new President’s safety, and that he shuts up all of the haters. To have a First Lady that looks like me is too much. We gonna have some perm in the White House yall! Hey now. Anyway, I’m tired and need to go to bed. God bless you all, I enjoy your comments, and may God bless America and our new President, Barack Hussein Obama!

Girl my fam, friends and I was popping champagne…we was in here dancing to Ain’t No Stoppin Us Now. Can we say Party over here?!?! Even in our tears and dancing we knew the normally most disunified race, the Black race came out and stood on long lines to elect the first Black family into the house that was built by slaves.
Also, is that crazy that Bob Kennedy predicted this 40 yrs ago in 1968?!?
Wed, November 5, 2008 2:26 AM
Come on quys can you all believe we have our first black president!! So many people died and fought just for us to have the right to vote and now the leader of this country is a black man! Congrats Barack. This NYer cried along with the other millions of Nyers at 11pm when he was announced the President-elect. Not only is Barack multicultural and diverse, he is a Black man with an ethnic name, Black wife and Black kids. A first on so many levels. It was only a few decades ago that we couldn’t even eat at the same counters at YT but now our President is really one of us. This just goes to show that every vote does make a difference. May God continue to bless all of us.
Wed, November 5, 2008 4:19 AM

Wed, November 5, 2008 4:42 AM
Great day, and a historical day. But this is only the beginning, support isn’t just a one off vote, it’s a a continued decision. But most importantly “you can be president if you want to” isn’t just words, it’s proven reality.
Wed, November 5, 2008 4:58 AM

YES WE CAN and YES WE DID IT!!! God is good!!! We have come a long way, the first African American President and I am still around to witness it. My parents are 59 and 60 yrs old and they voted for the very first time. I called them last night and I can hear it in my mother’s voice that she was crying. Not only for the President elect, but because her one vote counted. She was always afraid to vote because she feared that she wouldn’t understand the process. I am extremely proud of them. But we have our first black president y’all. Don’t party to hard. Take care and may God bless you all.
Wed, November 5, 2008 7:38 AM

Me too, i was saying the same thing last night. I’ve always heard stories about Jesse not actually being on the balcony when Martin Luther King Jr. was shot but that he actually went out there and got Martin’s blood on his shirt to be ready for the photo op! His tears really didn’t look too genuine to me. And him holding up Oprahs hands like that made me really give him the side eye, but F him, all fakers will be revealed during the next 4 (and hopefully 8) years and everyone not FOR us – is AGAINST us. So right now we gotta concentrate on Barack & uplifting ourselves as a race right now.

Give Jessie a break, he was being a hater but I know this was historic for him and it shook him to the core. The tears were real, the man was there and traveled with Martin Luther King and was there when he was gunned down. I will ask for some compassion for him. He didn’t think it would happen in his lifetime.

They said they were taking down American flags and these were the same people that called Obama a socialist and terrorist. They were sick and I loved every moment…BTW I have my Obama shirt on at work lol….I love America……..

I am so proud to be an American today. Last night has to be one of the best nights of my life. I never thought that I could be a part of history and witness it for myself.
I cried all night. From the moment they announced that he won Ohio, then Iowa, Pennsylvania too. I knew that he sealed the deal. The celebrations from not only in the United States, but around the WORLD said it all. It was moving, it was touching and it was something that I will always remember for the rest of my life.
Thank you, Obama, for being my hope in being an American. And also, thank you, to all those that got out and voted, made your voice heard.
Well put

I loved this. After the election last night I got this text and it is still going. It is like Jesus! He did it and took on America for the sake of all Americans hoping for a change and won. This gives hope to every man, woman, and child that anything is possible.
We got your back OBAMA! I believe that you can and will unite our nation and those in other countries as well and bring America BACK to its standing as a powerhouse and country that others respect.
GOD BLESS PRESIDET OBAMA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Um, Jesus? No. I know you may not have meant that literally, but please people. Let’s be careful with the Messiah comparisons.
Ditto! I LOVE Obama to the full…but he’s not my Jesus!
I wasn’t saying he was Jesus. This election and the way that we believed in him, followed him, and actually went to the polls and voted for him has that effect. He has made history and he did with the backing of people from all races and walks of life who believed in his ability to lead.

We’ve got to respect ourselves and our people. Trust me they are waiting for us to screw up.
Barack represents us and we represent him!
We now have no excuse, for the man cannot hold us down when we stand together! We must set and example for all generations to follow. Set a trend and let’s not leave this to be a once in a lifetime event. 2012, 2016, 2020, 2024… Yes we can!

I am CRACKING UP cause these haters are walking around this office like yesterday was just another ordinary day! But their butts acted a fool Monday cause the Titans are still undefeated. That’s fine cause I just put up my Obama ‘08 sign in my cubicle and wrote “Yes We Did” on it. *LJ waits patiently for someone to say something so she can ask them where in the handbook does it say we can’t decorate the INSIDE of a cubicle*

This is so amazing we have all witnessed history. I have two little girls and i’m so elated that I am here with them to see this moment, That this moment we were all a part of will be in their history books, When you were a child you were always told you can be whatever you want to be even the president, and it just seemed it was a figure of speech now I can say it to my girls and it’s A REALITY. I HAVE PROOF THEY CAN BE WHATEVER THEY WANT TO BE, BECAUSE WE DID IT LAST NIGHT!!!!

I woke up and decided that only positive stuff will move in my life. Starting with my Ipod and dumping it of all the negative rap!& I’ve banned my boys from wearing the do-rag outside! I’m just getting started
Amen. Girl I am reading your post and get misty eyed. You are so right. THEY will look at everything we do and it will somehow reflect on him. We must be positive, repectful, and stand strong and represent our PRESIDENT the right way.
HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHH@
So can we start calling them White Americans now???
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

Well Jesse Jackson (even in his humanistic mistakes during this campaign) always said “Keep Hope Alive”, and while many of us may have our own opinions about him those tears streaming down his face shows how important it is to keep hope alive. We DID IT! Obama is for all Americans and that was proven yesterday. He is just a man, but he has proven tht he is a great man and with this nation behind him we are set to embrace and move into real change. Congrats President Elect Obama!!! God bless Obama and America!

I have a nine month old daughter. I took her with me yesterday when I voted. I held her in my hand and showed her Barack’s name.
The whole night I was glued to CNN. She woke up several times and every time she did I told her which states he was winning. And when he won I told her Obama won! She smiled a little sleepy smile and I was overwhelmed with joy.
All morning I’ve been showing her his picture on the computer and tv, and telling her that he is our first black president. She just keeps smiling. Good things are in store for us. I am so elated. God is good.

The last time I saw my mother cry was 6 yrs ago when her father died. my mother cried and prayed and thanked the Lord all nite for bringing us out, just as Moses did. I thank God for sparing my life thus far so I could witness and be apart of such a historic and wonderful event.

Did anyone notice that they all wore red. Obama and his family? Seemed like they were embracing the republicans through color. No hard feelings there.

My grandma who is 85 years old said she never thought she would see the day. Living during the civil rights movement, cleaning white people homes, drinking out of colored fountains, using colored only bathrooms….she said she never thought. I bought the newspaper today. I am going to save this for my daughter who is now 8 so she can see she was only 8 when a black man became president. I will tell her …what r excuses?! You can do ANYTHING!

I took the time to read every comment left on this board, I feel everyone wants to be heard to express how good and wonderful they feel and I want to hear everyone’s voice of happiness. Some many nameless & faceless people have fought and died hoping, wishing and praying for a better tomorrow. When Obama was finished with his speech last night and one could take the time to reflex to those people before us who didn’t live to see this day, I cried out for them. For so many to understand the depths of such greatness, to feel President Obama’s heart and soul across the nation is indescribable. For those in other countries hoping that the US people pick the right man is amazing. About a year ago an office discussion was on the floor about feeling good to be an American. I expressed that yes, this is the best country to live in but at that moment I was not proud to be an American, we were hearing daily the rising number of deaths in Iraq and we have a president who is running this country into the deepest pits of despair. Some didn’t like my views and some totally understood. Today, I am more than proud to be an American, to stand behind a man who understands the upper, middle and lower class, who is not too proud to be the average person, who is looking for betterment for all and not just for self. This morning when awoke, my first thought was “wow, we have a black president, good morning “President Obama!” Then, I cried……..Again!!!!

The title of his book said it best, “The Audacity of Hope.” Where would we be if Harriet Tubman, Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King, Susan B. Anthony, Hillary Clinton, and now Barack HUSSEIN Obama didn’t have the audacity hope and work for a united and EQUAL America? Although, Obama’s race to the white house started just 21 months ago in the cold of winter, many great leaders campaigned in and out of seasons for centuries to end racism, sexism, and crooked politics. You know, our future First Lady was criticized when she said, “For the first time I am REALLY proud of this country.” To some that may seem like a smack in the face, as America has made tremendous strides in the right direction. However, Michelle like many of us didn’t experience first-hand the evils of America’s past such as slavery, legal segregation and inequalities, which means she didn’t witness the great moments in history when Americans stood up for what was right and fair. And if you didn’t witnessed a moment in history like the one you and I are standing in right now, this too may be the first time in YOUR life that you are “really proud” of this country. So never take this moment for granted. More importantly never stop hoping as Obama did, never stop dreaming as Martin did, and never stop believing as I do in a better of tomorrow. Now is the time to march, not walk, not run, but march with discipline and purpose forward into the future. Moreover, let’s not see Obama as a smart, intelligent, brave African American or BLACK man, let’s see him for what he is … a Man, a child of God that had the audacity to hope.

I am in Antigua in the Caribbean and we are all celebrating the win here too.People can’t stop talking….. you would think the election took place here LOL. Blacks have come a long way from the days of working in the feild and on plantations to the point that we have a Black President of the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!!!! This is truly a Victory for us all as Black people……I am truly proud as an African American to have seen this in my lifetime.
