Business Of Showbusiness
Gabrielle Union may have a new acting gig lined up. She’s set to to star in an upcoming NBC detective drama. It’s about the drama surrounding a detective (to be played by Union) who must race to save someone’s life before it’s too late. This will be her second time teaming up and helping to develop a series with writer Frank Spotnitz, who wrote the last series Gabby starred in “Night Stalker”. No word on when the new show will begin taping or airing.
And speaking of NBC, writer and creator Mara Brock Akil is set to create a new series for the network. The “Girlfriends” and “The Game” head honcho is likely going to bring her fabulosity to the NBC network to write the script and executive produce a buddy comedy based on the 2006 book Making Friends With Black People. According to BV:
About the state of race relations in the U.S., the project is being developed as a sitcom for NBC, and Salim Akil, her husband, is also on board too. ‘Making Friends’ will center on two guys — one African-American and one white — who become close friends, but who don’t necessarily see things the same way. Nick Adams, a standup comic, wrote the book as a humorous look at how people dance around issues of race. He’ll serve as a co-producer on the project.
By the way, Mrs. Akil is one of only two black women producing multiple shows on the air for 2007-08 season, Shonda Rhimes (creator of Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice) being the other. I see my Soror is doing fabulous things…
News on Tyler Perry and his writers’ drama and Bob Johnson when you read the rest…
Ion Media, which boasts the nation’s largest station group, is proposing to team with BET founder Robert Johnson’s RLJ Companies on an urban-targeted network, Urban Television, which would operate on the majority of Ion TV stations’ digital multicast channels. Um, yeah. With your track record Mr. Johnson, thanks but no thanks.
And in other screenwriter news a statement has been released about the status of Tyler Perry vs. his writers. A while back, word spread that Tyler P. was firing all his black writers and not treating an of his writers right. And it looks like negotiations between him and his staff have ended amicably:
Atlanta, GA - Tyler Perry Studios and the Writers Guild of America, West today announced that they have come to an agreement following more than five months of negotiations. Vic Bulluck, executive director of the NAACP Hollywood Bureau, was instrumental in bringing the two parties together.
“We are pleased to have come to a resolution with the WGA, and thank the NAACP for their support during negotiations. We look forward to many years working with the talented writers who are members of the Guild.” stated Tyler Perry. “With a continued focus on fostering young, diverse talent, we are eager to continue our dialogue with the WGA to dramatically increase the number of minority writers working in Hollywood today.”
“At a time when true independent producers like Mr. Perry are rare in this business, we congratulate him on his success and welcome his decision to become signatory to a WGA contract,” said Writers Guild of America, West President Patric M. Verrone. “I also would like to thank Ben Jealous, NAACP national president and CEO, Vic Bulluck, executive director NAACP Hollywood Bureau, and Clayola Brown, national president of the A. Philip Randolph Institute, for their help during this negotiation.”
“The NAACP is a staunch advocate for workers rights and for nearly one hundred years has fought for greater minority representation and inclusion in Hollywood. We applaud Tyler Perry’s efforts to not only promote, but to also provide work for people of color in the entertainment industry,” stated Benjamin Jealous, president and CEO of the NAACP. Adding, “We recognize the unique and important influence writers have in our society. The NAACP will continue to work with the WGA to make sure their rights are protected and that all the networks and studios provide greater opportunity for minority writers.”
The contract with the WGA was the last union agreement outstanding for Tyler Perry Studios, which had previously brokered deals with the Teamsters, IATSE, SAG, DGA, and others. Acknowledging that some of the writers on the TBS series House of Payne and Meet the Browns will not be returning, Perry thanked them for their services and wished them well in their future endeavors.

I guess NBC is trying to get some CW stees why do the networks play pass the black viewers every other season? But I am happy for Gabby and especially Mara.
I seriously think Rob Johnson is the man in black face, it’ll take us generations to get past BET i don’t want shit else this man is selling.

Who are The GAME STANS in here?
I finally got my DVR & i taped 3 episodes this past weekend and i like it! I really, really liked it. I saw the episode when Tia/Tamara (i don’t know which one it is, sorry, don’t crucify me) found out that the other chick was married, the episode when she got banged out in the club’s bathroom & the episode when she went/sneaked to his 1st out of town game & hid in the closet. I like the show, now i see what you guys were raving over.

Angela had to be very desperate to take that role because that have to be The lowest movie that Tyler Perry has made! Most of his movies are low with the exception of Why did I get Married!
