Jennifer Hudson Speaks About Her Grammy Nods+Other Grammy News
It’s a rare thing to hear anything coming from Jennifer Hudson these days. But she’s speaking out to her fans about her four Grammy nods. Here’s her statement:
“It’s been a childhood dream of mine to release an album, so to receive 4 Grammy nominations is truly a blessing. I’m extremely honored and humbled by the nominations.”
Her nominations include Best R&B Album, Best Female R&B Vocal Performance and Best R&B Song for “Spotlight,” and Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals for “I’m His Only Woman” with label mate Fantasia. Congrats to Jenny.
And congrats are in order for 21 year old Jazmine Sullivan who copped 5 Grammy nods–including Best New Artist. The only YBF person in that category. But she’s up against the Jonas Brothers so um, yeah. And Kanye and Jay-Z both landed 6 nominations each–but neither in the Album of the Year category. And of course, Lil Wayne is killin’ everybody with 8 nods–including Album of the Year for Tha Carter III.

Jazmine is going to wipe out the Grammy’s much like Alicia Keys did years ago when “Falling” came out. Jazmine’s album is incredible. She has an amazing voice and she wrote all of her stuff. Love her. Plus I saw her in concert with my husband Maxell, and she killed it.
I love me some JHud. I haven’t heard the whole album. I do hope that these nominations aren’t a pity nod…

Its good to hear from JHud, but I do think those are pity nods. I’ve only heard one of her songs (it was okay) and didnt even know she actually dropped her album. Its good that she is slowly feeling up to doing things…I could never imagine feeling what she’s going through.
I agree about Jazmine Sullivan….that was a really good album. She’ll do great.

congrats on the nods to all. however, i heard j-huds album and i actually like it better than j.sullivan. jaz (lol, like i know her) has a beautiful voice but her songs weren’t hitting like i thought they would, although she has somg good joints on her album. and nah, i don’t think these are pity nods for j-hud–sista is talented. lots of times it only takes that one song to get u a nod anyway.
and i agree with u dame, estelle shoulda been nominated–her cd (song wise)is better than both stated above

Congratulations to Jennifer, she is really talented and i don’t think those are pity nods. Her cd is really good Can’t Stop The rain is my favorite and I hope she leaves with that one for Best R&B female duo or group. Her and Tasia tore the roof off of that one. Even though Beyonce claimed she wanted that Oscar-Grammy-Tony trio, I think Ms. J-Hud is going to be the one who actually gets it. I’m so proud of Jennifer. Unlike Beyonce who says things that make her look self-absorbed, arrogant, and entitled, Jennifer comes across as humble.

I tried not to respond to this post SOOOO many times, but the “pity” comments are bothering me. For all you that think that a Jennifer’s nomination was based on pity, please take a quick trip to Billboard.com. I have read that her CD “didn’t do that well” and that “they don’t play it on the radio”… not exactly true. The fact is her CD, did very well compared to where the music industry is today. In all reality, CD sales have really been suffering in the past few years. Now that we are in a reccession, it will go down even more. That’s why it is remarkable for Lil’ Wayne to be multiplatium, where years ago artist were going platinum left and right. Jennifer’s CD not meet up to your personal standards, but it has sold. As a matter of fact, SHE HAS OUTSOLD JAZMIN SULLIVAN!! (GASP!!) Just because you didn’t buy the CD doesn’t mean that many others haven’t. Just because you don’t hear her songs on the radio doesn’t mean that they are not playing it in on other stations or in other areas. Her single “Spotlight” has been on the Billboard Hot 100 for 19 weeks. As well as the Top R&B/Hip Hop Songs chart where it peaked at #1 and has been on for 29 weeks. Her CD has been on the Top 200 Albums for 9 weeks and it peaked at #2. The list goes on and on. It’s funny how people can quickly forget how before her family’s tragedy Jennifer Hudson was on TOP of her game and doing very well. I think that she deserves to be awarded for that. Congrats Jennifer!

Not only did Jennifer’s CD outsell Jazmin Sullivan (who I happen to love), but she outsold many other CD’s who many of you claim to be successful such as: Ne-yo’s “Year of the Gentleman”….T.I.’s “Papertrail”….John Legend’s “Evolver”….Usher’s “Here I Stand”….and Mary J. Blige’s “Growing Pains.” Now I don’t hear anybody yelling sympathy/pity vote about T.I.’s going to jail. Why not? Maybe because he deserves the accolades!! Why can’t Jennifer?

Jennifer Hudson album is definately Grammy material. Have you heard “you pulled me through” that is such an inspirational song. The girl is talented period, she doesn’t need to be #1 on the radios to get a Grammy nomination. Remember Norah Jones, no one was playing her on the radio really but she still won 5 Grammys in one night. I am sorry but I disagree with your comments about pity awards. Sometime the Grammys make a mistake by awarding someone just because they are popular other times they get it right and awards someone deserving. Go listen to some of J-hud’s songs trust me you will love the album, very soulful. “If this isn’t love” is another amzing track.
What state and city do you live in, they play “spotlight” all the time where I live.
