Mon, December 29, 2008 4:23 PM
I’m glad to see some context surrounding this flier, b/c had I seen it on my own, I’d just be mad that folks are puttin’ Obama on a flyer tryna sell tickets for some Inauguration parties. Given the context though, and the upscale nature of the event, I think it’s cool.
Mon, December 29, 2008 4:23 PM
It sounds nice but, I don’t think I wanna $500, $1000 or even $2500 for a ticket :P
Mon, December 29, 2008 4:26 PM
Shame on it all!! I can’t go, and I LIVE in D.C.!!

Sorry, but if I don’t get tickets from my senator, I’ll just watch it on my television. I am not paying these amounts to watch a bunch of hypocrites stand around. Do we get food and drink with that? Do we get to mingle with these folks? What is the money that is being generated going towards? Hmm? Yes. Until someone can answer that question for me, I will just watch it on my television, or I will go to MD to visit my homegirl and have ourselves a lil inaugeration party.
I hope ppl are not using Obama as a platform to have their own little events, because it is making a mockery of what this is all about. Seriously and no hate at all. But I will not pay 500 or 1000 to see people who smoke weed, get arrested on the regular for stupid shit, break laws and disrespect their fan bases stand around in a 15,000 dollar dress. No thanks, I rather listen to Obama talk about how he is going to get us out of this recession. Or how he is going to prevent another 3 world war (pay attention to the Gaza attacks and what’s going on in India and Pakistan).

I sure would like to know where all of the money is going to go that they collect from this event. They should have a free concert for everyone. No a days it’s all about money. The money that they collect should be donated to a charity or given to the homeless or something.
Mon, December 29, 2008 4:31 PM
Not about to even try and buy a ticket for that price….Will Barack be there??? Prices like that, I need Tupac, all members of Run DMC, Biggie, the old Lil Kim, Beastie Boys and all members of the Fat Boys to be there….

YES. And I am not trying to point out the flaws in our people but seriously, is this needed? Why don’t these people use their money and host a lil inaugeration party for the local people in D.C. who are going to be essentially “Pushed” out of their own city. Let’s do something that is worthwhile, instead of something that is going to garner stupid attention. And Tash I aint tryin to knock this at all, but we all know with an event like this, the “Ballers aka STUNTERS” are gonna come out trying to parlay as something that their not.
In any event, I hope it goes well, thats all I will say.

It’s about the almighty dollar you know that. With all the merchandising going on did you really think people were going to stop at t-shirts. There are going to be 40 and 50 dollar cover parties all over the place.
I have a question, who in the hell is making all this Obama merchandise and who gets the proceeds from the sales?
I went to some tennis shoe store and they had these fake ass Obama shirts for sale…My son asked for one, I told him no!! That money is not going to his campaign….

What you said is so true. I hate to say it but sometimes some of US are not the best representers for US or of US as a race! I understand everyone wanting to be involved because it is HiStory, but if this is just a Hip Hop party then they don’t need to be posting President Obama’s picture on the flyer misrepresenting what he has done and is trying to do with their foolishness.

I agree. These rappers have the power to really make a difference and bring about real change. Instead they want to host a big azz party and charge a stack to get in. I want to celebrate this historic moment too but not at the risk of being in debt…

I understand people want to “celebrate” this historic event but seriously, what about the people who are getting pushed out of their homes? People that have been laid off etc.? Do they not deserve the opportunity to celebrate in style as well?
Seriously, Georgia Petworth will no longer have ANY Black folks by 2012. Everything is get “upgraded” and those who can upgrade with their surroundings are getting bussed to Woodbridge and PG County. I’m all for having a good time, but I really hope that the proceeds from these tickets will be going to some very real and serious social and economic issues plaguing DC right now.
I mean some of the balls start at $150. I swear I’ll go to an embassy-related ball, etc. before I go to this one. It’s just way too expensive and IT IS A RECESSION! Dang!

What you said is so true. I hate to say it but sometimes some of US are not the best representers for US or of US as a race! I agree. These rappers have the power to really make a difference and bring about real change. Instead they want to host a big azz party and charge a stack to get in. I want to celebrate this historic moment too but not at the risk of being in debt…
And that is why I have basically given up on the idea of going. I can celebrate for Obama right here in Florida!

I really hope that with Obama in office come Jan 20th that these “Hip-hop” educators get their shit together and change the way they do things..I know you have to market your product. But when you do it at the destruction of millions of children (especially our own) you aint doin anything short of “Putting Crack Rocks in the hands of dem Fiends”. I do pray for better role models and I hope that the representation of the black family unit we see in the White House will inspire change in many of these broken homes and communities where we need to come together.
If I have kids, I wouldn’t really want them to look up to any else as a role model.I think that’s the parent’s job.Because people like rappers get their egos tested, and when they do something “bad” they don’t want to take responsibility.

I won’t even lie…months ago I was tryna be in D.C., but now…umm no. I don’t do well in crowds (and I live in NYC)…but I don’t do especially well in crowds of 2million+. Every single hotel is booked, there will be crowds of people in the streets and someone is bound to act a fool. And I am sorry I do love my people…but I am tired of supporting something that’s supposed to be Top Tier, black tie only for it to be 4th tier with no organization. I’m good in the comfort of my own home with friends and family.

YEs but their parties weren’t shoot-outs or booze-fests. They entertained. That’s the big difference, they educated and had entertaining dialogue and dance. There weren’t hooligans at their events. Only people who were about things. I just hope for the same with us. Not tatas all out and coochies all showin in a 50,000 grand dress. Or who could wear the hottest Louboutin’s and all that garbage.

Tell it girl, tell it! Obama is about change and until the Hip Hop community can start producing the same results, they need more people. I
I hope the money they make will go where it’s needed and not to the promoters pockets
Exactly. I hope so too, and you know what I really hope?
I really hope that with Obama in office come Jan 20th that these “Hip-hop” educators get their shit together and change the way they do things..I know you have to market your product. But when you do it at the destruction of millions of children (especially our own) you aint doin anything short of “Putting Crack Rocks in the hands of dem Fiends”. So lets do something a tad bit different. If not for you, then for the sake of your future generations.
And Russell: I know you are grinding and all, but when YOU USE THE N word like you do, you aint doin shit. So don’t parlay like you are.
All proceeds from the questionable shindig needs to go to the distribution of new history textbooks for DC schools… now that Obama is in office a new chapter is sure to be added.
These people need more than textbooks, give em something that can be extensive. History is not going to be learned when they are illerate. Or when they use it as something to roll their blunt on. Give em something worthwhile.

I think Obama is all for help & celebration but minus the drama. He probably doesnt have fate that they can party w/out acting a fool “Dont boo, just vote”….. Dont fight just celebrate

Which you know it’s going to be about, what are we going to be doing for $1,000 – $50,000 per ticket? Watching the inauguration on a big screen i tell ya & dancing to “Pop Champagne” No Thank You, if i part with my money I WANT TO SEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE OBAMA!

I totally support your website, and have been a reader for a long time — but this overpriced inaugural ball is ridiculous. The American Music Institute is specifically holding an affordable ball at the Marriott Wardman Park for a quarter of the price. At least you could’ve supported your readership by supporting an event FOR the PEOPLE.
I am, for the first time, am truly disappointed.

I really hope that with Obama in office come Jan 20th that these “Hip-hop” educators get their shit together and change the way they do things..I know you have to market your product. But when you do it at the destruction of millions of children (especially our own) you aint doin anything short of “Putting Crack Rocks in the hands of dem Fiends”. call your congressional rep to protest what is going on in gaza. tell them you don’t want your tax dollars being sent to israel to kill innocent civilians. don’t matter if your congressional representative or senator is jewish. what is happening is atrocious. it is genocide and we must do everything we can to stop it!

I agree but we must teach our own children their history whatever it maybe… If we wait on the public schools to do it.. we’ll be having this same conversations 50 years from now. If it important to us..then are kids will see it as important also.

Those tickets are entirely too expensive for a DC gala. I am going to the Inauguration and I only paid $250 at the most for a Black Tie event. Give me a break!!

Mon, December 29, 2008 6:23 PM
AM I THE ONLY ONE WHO NOTICED THE RIDICULOUSLY HIGH PRICES?! There’s not ONE entertainer on that flyer worth seeing for that amount of money, especially when i can pay less than 10% of the $1000 VIP ticket to see them in concert. These are Madonna and Michael Jackson prices, and not one of them are even CLOSE to that status, so something in the milk is definitely not clean. I could get to a better party at a regular club, pay my $20 or what have you, and have just as much fun partying with regular folks. F*ck outta here, these celebrities think they untouchable. NEXT
Mon, December 29, 2008 6:27 PM
OH and I just realized the $1000 is GENERAL ADMISSION, even worse. But here’s a list of celebrities (in no particular order), that would make ME spend that kind of money:
Oprah
Ciara
Will Smith
Beyonce
Jay Z
P. Diddy
Michael Jackson
Janet Jackson
Denzel Washington
Usher…….
ALL of them in the same place at one time, now that’s BLACK power! Add to the list if you’d like
Mon, December 29, 2008 6:42 PM
HIENEKEN???????????????????????????????????????????????????
Does that ghetto ass flyer say Hieneken is a sponsor???????????????
Why the hell does everything black people do have to be sponsored by a liquor company!???????????????????????????
Why do black people ALWAYS have to link themselves to liquor????????????????????????????????
And I mean HIENEKEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They could of at least got a reputable wine or champaign company to support. But NO!!! They had to go “hood” the event out with some beer!
Black people, we NEED to do better!
Do you really think Obama would be happy with his image next to a Hieneken logo?????????????????????????????????
SMDH!

I need some clarification: I understand that Pres-Elect Obama will attend only 9-10 official balls. Is this one? I’m not throwing salt, but I don’t see anywhere on the flyer that he will be in attendance. If he’s going to be there, we could talk $1K a ticket….

I think the idea of a Hip-Hop Inaugural Ball is hot and worthy of support. Why are there so many playa haters about this? The truth is many of these hip-hop artists helped to get out a record vote for Obama. Now to come to Washington, DC to celebrate is a great idea. It is expensive to party down at the Harman Center for the Arts. I just got two tickets online. One for myself and one for my honey. Black tie and hip-hop together will be elevated. This will be history. Having a party with a charity purpose. Yes, I agree. Maybe HSAN should used some of the profits to help stop some of the self-destruction and madness on the streets of DC. It’s time to celebrate….not hate. Thanks to Russell and the others for putting this Gala on. I am down with it 100%.
Mon, December 29, 2008 10:24 PM
Considering where I’m located and the cost of the tickets, IT’S TO HIGH FOR MY BLOOD. Hopefully some of you can make it and take some pics and I’m also glad that Natasha will be there to cover the event and will have many pictures for us of the event. Who ever goes, I hope you have a good time.
CONGRATS ON YOUR TICKETS RABBI DAVID, I KNOW PRICE WON’T BE A BIG PROBLEM FOR YOU CONSIDERING THAT YOUR AN “RABBI”. I HOPE YOU HAVE FUN.

I THINK ITS GREAT THEY WANT TO CELEBRATE, BUT I PRAY TO GOD,NO VIOLENCE BREAK OUT. IF VIOLENCE HAPPENS, THAT TO, WILL MAKE A HISTORY AND NOT IN A GOOD WAY. THE ‘RIGHT’ WILL HAVE A FIELD DAY. IT WOULD MAKE NEWS AROUND THE WORLD AND THAT WOULD NOT BE A GOOD THING.
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE KEEP IT CLASSY.

All the Barack Obama merchandise you see on TV, in the newspaper, anything anywhere does not benefit Obama at
ALL. The proceeds go to whomever is selling it because Barack is a public offical with no rights/claims to the money. Ain’t that some ish..he, Michelle and the girls could be BILLIONAIRES for real with everything being sold with his likeness(books, t-shirts, plates, cups, napkins..)
Dang shame!

Stop hatin. There other low dollar events. The Creative Alliance (Hollywood) ticket prices start at 5,000. Hip Hop Summit does allot for the youth from teaching them how to save their money to registering people to vote. Its a fundraiser that happens to be a party.
