EXCLUSIVE: Jay-Z Talks With YBF About Business
Jay-Z and Lisa Price shout out TheYBF.com–Watch in HD here.
Jay-Z was here in D.C. all week and TheYBF.com had the fabulous opportunity to have a one-on-one in-person chat with Mr. Shawn Carter himself. YBF is the only celebrity entertainment site asked to chit chat with Mr. Carter at the Pentagon City Carol’s Daughter store opening. We also chatted with Carol’s Daughter founder Lisa Price. And here’s what Mr. Carter had to say about his investment ventures with the Carol’s Daughter brand:
Natasha: Jay, what drew you to the Carol’s Daughter brand and made you become an investor?
Jay-Z: I wasn’t drawn to the brand for products initially. But what drew me to the brand was way back when [Steve] Stoute and Lisa had their first meeting to dream all of this up. I happened to be riding by and I was introduced to Lisa. Her story was so incredible. You know, somebody who started making products out of her own home and to see where she is right now. It’s a wonderful thing.
Natasha: Which products are you using and which does your wife [Beyonce] love and use?
Jay-Z: I was drawn to the story of how the Blue Ocean…or Ocean…[leans over and laughs to Lisa asking what the exact name is]…yeah, Ocean. That’s MY favorite. As for anybody else’s favorite–you would have to ask them. [laughs]
Natasha: I mean, you HAVE to know your wife’s favorite. You have to know what you would buy her as a gift.
Jay-Z: [smiles] I mean, I guess it’s my favorite. So I would buy her my favorite. I mean, I love them all. [turns to Lisa] That’s why you need to come on over to the house and outfit the whole thing with products. [laughs] I’m trying to get her to come over and really…outfit everything. Because even when you just smell the store, the fragrances just sit there. It’s good.
[Lisa tells him she has some face wash products she really wants him to try that she knows he would love.]
Natasha: So can we get one piece of advise for Barack Obama that has nothing to do with politics?
Jay-Z and Lisa: Wow…wow. Good question! [laughs]
Jay-Z: You need to let Lisa come and outfit the White House with this whole thing. And get his “situation” smooth. [laughs] Michelle’s gonna need that.

I can’t say I’ve really tried Carol’s products. But there’s one thing, I forgot, smells sooooo good. I got a sample from Sephora and then it turned out to be too strong. (too strong scents give me migraines). I just didn’t bother.

I was here!!!! It was very unorganized, BUT Jay was looking good as ever and was very nice, although he wouldn’t take pictures with anyone and security was trying to stop ppl from taking pictures of him, he did sign autographs and shake hands…his hands are super soft!!! I took these hair pills I got from GNC and they were pretty good..also eat a lot of protein (Don’t drink it, lmao) as in meat and fish..that is also good for the hair..I currently use carrot and olive oil from organic root stimulators..those are good too. If you really want to get things poppin, get the Jane Carter “Hair Scalp Serum” that one is amazing! I’m a hair product junkie, lol

I thought about hair pills. I just cut my hair short too. I drink Nature’s Plus Ultra Thick hair shake. Its vanilla flavor and tastes good. I also take Biotin daily. I see a difference already. Olive oil works good, but I cannot use it b/c of allergies.
Is the Jane Carter Hair Scalp Serum expensive? Most serums are.
OK another question. Are you ladies natural or wear a relaxer? I haven’t gotten a perm in a while and trying to stick with press-n-curl, but I’m sooooo tempted to get another relaxer. It was so much easier to maintain. Though I noticed my hair is thicker and healthier now. Any suggestions?

I usually go to the grocery store and get my hair a daily fix .
I mix milk, eggs, honey, and virgin olive oil once a week, go under the dryer for 15 minutes and wash it out.Or Mayonnaise.
That’s more like my deep conditioner route.
And yes too much protein can dry out your hair
And eat food with Vitamin E or just use pure Vitamin E oil.

I get a relaxer every two months, my next one is in Feburary…I use all olive oil products, they are sooo good and I dont blow dry my hair after I wash it I wrap it and let it dry by itself and why I put any heat on my hair I use a heat protectant…my hair is the healthiest its ever been!

Cap, the only things that’s gonna amek ya hair grow fast is GENES. I know you said it seemed like it grew faster when it was longer. MAybe you felt so because your hair was longer in length. I know I took after my mom’s paternal side and I have slow growing hair. But it’s gotten past my shoulders but it takes forever to get there. Vitamins and all that stuff is cool, but your hair isn’t just going to start sprouting out because of them.
The haircare industry is a billion $$$ business, with most of the money coming from black women. All these lies they telling people. Your best bet is just to be patient and stick to taking care of your hair. Not saying their isn’t hair products that work for other things like moisturizing, shine, conditioning, etc. But to make ya hair grow, nope. Don’t believe the hype. If these products were so good, their would be no bald men, and women, especially black women, would not be walking around w/ *snaps fingers* that amount of hair.

I dont relax the front of my hair because its so thin…I’m usually wearing a weave, but when I do wear it short I relax the back so that when it gets cut it can look good….by beautician can hook the short weave up so good that you’ll never know I’m wearing a weave!

Leave the relaxer alone!!! It more damaging to your hair than good! It’s worth the extra trouble in the long run! I quit getting relaxers in 07 and the advice of my stylist. I just get my hair ironed out with a ceramic iron, and I wear it straight and long.

I thought about hair pills. I just cut my hair short too. I drink Nature’s Plus Ultra Thick hair shake. Its vanilla flavor and tastes good. I also take Biotin daily. I see a difference already. Olive oil works good, but I cannot use it b/c of allergies.
Is the Jane Carter Hair Scalp Serum expensive? Most serums are.
OK another question. Are you ladies natural or wear a relaxer? I haven’t gotten a perm in a while and trying to stick with press-n-curl, but I’m sooooo tempted to get another relaxer. It was so much easier to maintain. Though I noticed my hair is thicker and healthier now. Any suggestions?[/quote]
When I visit my hairdresser I get it blown out because I use to get a relaxer and the relaxer wouldn’t hold my hair in to well so I haven’t worn a relaxer since I was young.

Leave the relaxer alone!!! It more damaging to your hair than good! It’s worth the extra trouble in the long run! I quit getting relaxers in 07 and the advice of my stylist. I just get my hair ironed out with a ceramic iron, and I wear it straight and long.[/quote]

I used to use a homemade hair conditioner too that included eggs, mayo, honey, and Queen Helene cholesterol. It started to make my hair oily and retain oil though so I stopped. It did make my hair ultra soft!
Oh yes, forgot about Vitamin E. I burst open gel Vitamin E pills and apply that directly to my scalp and temples.

I love not having a relaxer. I haven’t relaxed my hair in 6 months and I love how healthy my is now. My stylist does a great job cuz she has natural hair too, so she knows how to take care of my hair. I’m a dummy when it comes to hair care

Yes mama, that’s what it is. You miss your hair. I remember when my hair, which is naturally thick, I had it in this beautiful almost shulder length bob. I swear people thought it was a wig/weave. It was nice and heavy (thanks to daddy side), but then my hair just started falling out like crazy. When I stopped listening to these hairdressers and finally went to the doctor (dermatologist), they had to run mad tests on me and come to find out my hormones were out of balance. I had to start getting steroid shots in my scalp to stop my hair from falling out now. That was 4 yrs ago. It still sheds but no where as bad as it used to.

No it isn’t expensive I only paid 13 bucks for it. I have a relaxer and the thing with my hair is that I don’t overprocess it. I get a relaxer every 3 months and I keep it properly moisterized. I also get my ends trimmed on a reg basis so my hair is pretty darn healthy right about now..My stylist is a gift from god also so she knows what to do with my coiff! The relaxer she uses is the Design Essentials and I love it.

YES!!!I am a fully recovered baldy! Moms slapped that Just4mE relaxer in back in 91 and its bad business for my hair for a looong time. In 04 when I went to college I stopped getting them cause I couldn’t afford it and just rocked it natural..switching between braids and sewins. 5 years later my hair is down my back!! I was hella nappy for a minute but it was well worth the trouble!! Now like Lola mentioned I just invested in a ceramic flat iron and it stays straighter than when I had a perm..

It was nice and heavy (thanks to daddy side), but then my hair just started falling out like crazy. When I stopped listening to these hairdressers and finally went to the doctor (dermatologist), they had to run mad tests on me and come to find out my hormones were out of balance. I had to start getting steroid shots in my scalp to stop my hair from falling out now. That was 4 yrs ago. It still sheds but no where as bad as it used to.[/quote]

No it isn’t expensive I only paid 13 bucks for it. I have a relaxer and the thing with my hair is that I don’t overprocess it. I get a relaxer every 3 months and I keep it properly moisterized. I also get my ends trimmed on a reg basis so my hair is pretty darn healthy right about now..My stylist is a gift from god also so she knows what to do with my coiff! The relaxer she uses is the Design Essentials and I love it.[/quote]
Hmmm my old stylist used Design Essentials and it had my hair bone straight, which is what I like. I keep my ends trimmed on a regular basis too. I guess the key to a relaxer is making sure you maintain it and do not over-process.

well to stop the frizz for now, you shud try the hair milk..wen i wear my hair curly i put that in everyday, and my hair doesn’t frizz..it locks in moisture..

I have a relaxer because after 2 months, I break combs! But anyway, in the past, Ive put in weave and it worked wonders. I used to hate people who wore weaves but I cut my hair and wanted it back. With the weaves, it took alot of pressure and chemicals off my hair and it did grow back. My aunt is a hair stylist so I get mine done every saturday morning too!! Thank god for her cuz lord knows them prices are crazy… and some people go to her twice a week

Leave the relaxer alone!!! It more damaging to your hair than good! It’s worth the extra trouble in the long run! I quit getting relaxers in 07 and the advice of my stylist. I just get my hair ironed out with a ceramic iron, and I wear it straight and long.[/quote]

Mizani! And I get my hair deep conditioned every week, wash, roller set and blow dry and I pretty much never us a flat iron on it…unless I’m going out or something like that. My hair is naturally very thick, but it is soo much healthier now that I wait longer to relax and I use less heat!

I’m going to Vegas next month too!! Try Las Vegas.com….we ended up booking our hotel for 3 nights for $168![/quote]
Southwest usually has the best rates and they don’t charge for baggage.

Leave the relaxer alone!!! It more damaging to your hair than good! It’s worth the extra trouble in the long run! I quit getting relaxers in 07 and the advice of my stylist. I just get my hair ironed out with a ceramic iron, and I wear it straight and long.[/quote]

My last one was back in May. Wow, didn’t realize its been months. But anyway—I find it hard to maintain a press-n-curl. I prefer my hair super bone straight. I find that I’m putting more heat to it now
However, its thicker and healthier. I’m thisclose to getting another relaxer, but my stylist does not recommend it. I have no plans to actually wear my hair natural by the way. LOL my friend asked me the other day what my true texture was. My response: ni99a nappy.

I have a relaxer because after 2 months, I break combs! But anyway, in the past, Ive put in weave and it worked wonders. I used to hate people who wore weaves but I cut my hair and wanted it back. With the weaves, it took alot of pressure and chemicals off my hair and it did grow back. My aunt is a hair stylist so I get mine done every saturday morning too!!
