It was only a matter of time before a “cartoon/satire” about President Obama such as this hit the papers:
Y’all already know Rev. Al has already spoken out on his own website and to media outlets. He says:
The cartoon in today’s New York Post is troubling at best given the historic racist attacks of African-Americans as being synonymous with monkeys. One has to question whether the cartoonist is making a less than casual reference to this when in the cartoon they have police saying after shooting a chimpanzee that “Now they will have to find someone else to write the stimulus bill.
Being that the stimulus bill has been the first legislative victory of President Barack Obama (the first African American president) and has become synonymous with him it is not a reach to wonder are they inferring that a monkey wrote the last bill?”
The cynic in me is not the least bit surprised by this type of ish and I definitely don’t expect certain Americans to change their true opinions just because of who our President is. Ignorance is so deeply rooted and masked by “satire” it’s almost easier to completely expect and ignore it. But whatevs. Your thoughts?

I can feel what you’re saying. We are definitely divided and it will be hard to bring us back together. But things like this NEED to be blown out of proportion, so to speak. Just because it happens everyday doesn’t mean we have to just sit back and tolerate it. And even though we are divided, what about the Black people who do share the same views? When Al Sharpton speaks out about something like this, people look at him like, “He’s making a big deal out of this. He needs to just let it go” That’s not fair. People SHOULD get mad. People SHOULD get angry. They keep doing shit like this because they know WE won’t fight back.

They know that if President Obama succeeds, that it is lights out for the Republican Party. But I tell you what, if anything happens to that man, (and I doubt it will) it’s over. This country will cease to exist. We ain’t going out like that no more. Why do you think people are buying up guns like there is no tomorrow? They think that some nut case out there will try to kill him, and they want to be ready, armed and ready for us. However, there are young people out here today that ain’t scared and will tear up some ish. Not ours this time though. Hopefully and prayerfully, it won’t come to that.

Although President Obama technically did not WRITE the bill…I’m sure he had input in the specifics of the bill and he did sign it. Yes, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid wrote the bill…but you don’t see 2 chimps there…you only see ONE! The political satire in this cartoon is uncalled for! I AGREE with the post about Obama DID NOT WRITE the stimulus plan. HELL for a while there were two versions if there still isn’t two. I think it was making fun of the authors (Congress/Senate) saying that it’s so elementary that a monkey could write it. I think the whole “It’s only one monkey” thing is not enough to assume the cartoonist are talking about Obama. SIDENOTE: I think also just like with George W. Bush we give the President power he doesn’t even have and lay a lot of things at his door GOOD or BAD that in many instances has very little control over.

it’s definitely worth mentioning, as it presents the FULL story here. I definitely feel the Post could have been more sensitive to how the cartoon might be interpreted by people who don’t follow the news, but really, if they wanted to portray Obama as an ape (because chimps are apes, not monkeys) they could have done so for the past two years.
