Beyonce is rocking the cover and pages of the upcoming issue of EBONY magazine. And the pics are lovely:

When asked who is the real Beyonce, she tells the magazine: “I’m a daughter, I’m a friend, I’m a wife, I’m a sister. All those things first. I’m artist. I’m a businesswoman. I’m multifaceted. I’m a lover. I’m inspired by love. I make decisions from the heart.”
Asked to describe herself as a wife: “I don’t know how to talk about it because I don’t like to talk about it. But I have a great example of a great wife, and that’s my mother. And I have great friends around me that have been married, so I’m lucky to have really good examples. And a great husband.”
She says they are just like any other couple. She is learning to cook and he’s getting over his single-guy habits.
One thing she does to get on his nerve: “I’m a little messy. Oh, yeah. Whenever I’m out in public, I have to be put together. When I get home, I rebel against it and I don’t want to take care of anything. I drop it. I’m relaxed. I don’t have any shoes on. No makeup. My purse is in the kitchen. I think that is most difficult thing for him. He’s very, very organized. I’m extremely organized when I’m working, and I work so much that when I get home I don’t want to think about anything.”
As what Jay-Z does that get on her nerves: She laughs, “I won’t say.”
More pics and quotes when you read the rest…

When she makes decisions about what projects to do, her priority is not money but personal growth: “I turn down million dollar offers all the time because it’s something that does not feel true for what I’m trying to say. I have to be passionate about it. Love inspires and growth inspires me…If it is not going to be iconic, something I can love 10 years from now, I’ve learned I should not waste my time with it.”
She says her and Jay-Z stay out of each other’s business dealings: “He was very successful before I met him and I was very successful before I met him. So we have so much respect for each other, and respect for each other artistically. We are very close friends, and I believe he is the ultimate artist and he has the same feelings for me.”
She said she doing charity work such as working with women and children through shelters and organizations. She says she is mentoring and counseling them.
Asked about a quote from years ago where she said she wanted to retire by age 21: She says she could have retired at that age but now she has no intention of ever retiring: “I’ve worked so hard on my craft, and I will never stop. I will never retire. I love it way too much.”
Fabulous.

Fri, February 27, 2009 8:18 AM
now these are dresses you should have worn to the oscars bey….
sigh
Fri, February 27, 2009 8:19 AM
So is she going to be the next Diana Ross? She looks good though.
Fri, February 27, 2009 8:19 AM
interesting,
Beyonce seems darker in skin tone and hair color is dark on the blk mag. But on white folk mags shes lightest of light with super blonde hair.
Fri, February 27, 2009 8:20 AM
She looks really good. There I said something nice :)
Fri, February 27, 2009 8:20 AM
She should retire at 30 like she said. The Oscar will never happen so just give up on that dream.
Fri, February 27, 2009 8:21 AM
So yeeeeeeaaaahhhhhhh!! Get use to her…(For those of you who want he to go sit down somewhere) Loves this whole article, and will definitely be going to cop the mag.
Fri, February 27, 2009 8:22 AM
I can see the growth in B and that is what’s up.
She looks very mature in these pics, but fierce nonetheless.
She even answered all the questions very well.
GO Bey!!!!
Fri, February 27, 2009 8:23 AM
Very pretty pictures of Beyonce…….I heart her and Jay
Fri, February 27, 2009 8:23 AM
This post is hurting my eyes this early! What is up with those dresses?
Morning Ladies!!!
Fri, February 27, 2009 8:24 AM
Love the pics of her, and I love her and Jay as a couple they really compliment each other.
Fri, February 27, 2009 8:24 AM
As what Jay-Z does that get on her nerves:
“He farts all the time. Everytime we sit down to eat, or when we are at the basketball games. He always farts and the smell makes me wanna cry, but I know cameras are looking at us so, all I do it laugh”.
(Bey know that what she really wanna say….LMAO!!!!
Fri, February 27, 2009 8:25 AM
Do your thing Bey!
Fri, February 27, 2009 8:27 AM
She looks great! Fabolous pics I don’t understand when people say that she should have more to say about her relationship by now. Have we not gotten used to the fact that neither one of them is going to share too much? The assumption that being a celeb means you have to broadcast every aspect of your life is ridiculous. They deserve privacy. Everyone does. I think she shares enough. If she said too much, people would say oh that’s all she talks about or she’s trying to exploit her marriage. She’s damned if she do, damned if she don’t-I say DON’T!

Here comes the PRAISE TEAM……the Beyonce Stans/Fans
Fri, February 27, 2009 8:29 AM
She really needs to drop this iconic stuff. no one whose iconic ever aimed to be. it’s something we give you, not something you make of yourself.
let the public decide weavee! and so far it’s not looking so good.
lets think back to her absence at the grammy awards! no nom., no performance….interesting.
ALL of her movies are a flop. it’s public knowledge she’s a bad actor.
It’s the collaboration movment now in music, why does no one want to work with her?
AND she needs to wear everything one size up. No harm in being curvey, but girl needs to STOP squeezing herself into rihanna-sized clothes. Think back to that green number.
Fri, February 27, 2009 8:33 AM
She has a fabulous shape, but I would appreciate it if she burned all of her mermaid-looking dresses. They are hideous! Minus that pic, the rest look nice. She looks a lot older tho…like in the face.

Beyonce is such a STRONG and BEAUTIFUL black woman. Weave and all! It is so wonderful to see how successful one can become. Yes she over does it sometimes but to stay in the game you have to.

She has matured so much. It is wonderful to see how much one can accomplish! Beyonce is such a STRONG and BEAUTIFUL black woman, that should not be knocked down everytime she succeeds in something, but pushed harder to accomplish more! Once upon a time she would have never had the chance to be an icon, talent and all. . .
Fri, February 27, 2009 8:49 AM
GIVE THE LADY HER PROPS,IT IS WHAT IS!HER PERSONAL LIFE IS JUST THAT PERSONAL.STOP HATING AND GIVING NEGATIVE COMMENTS.
Fri, February 27, 2009 8:52 AM
I think Bey looks great! She is a beautiful strong woman. I used to be a hater but have come to love the girl. She seems real. There is nothing wrong with only doing projects that are meaningful. With so many offers, it makes more sense to do so. And to the lovely person that does not understad how the grammy’s work, she wasnt nom. because her album didnt come out in time for this year’s grammys. Trust that she wil get hers next year. GO BEY!!!
Fri, February 27, 2009 8:54 AM
She looks good. I’m feeling the curly hair. Go Bee :)
Fri, February 27, 2009 8:59 AM
WHY didnt she wear that white dress at the oscars?!! she looks waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better with it!! And she sounds like shes very media trained, cos she knows exactly wat to say. She didnt reveal too much about jay cos then ppl/Haters would have use it against her.
Fri, February 27, 2009 8:59 AM

You made some valid points except for the ‘weavee’ part; true but somewhat uncalled for.
I think she came off as somewhat arrogant. I have been getting that vibe from her for some time now. What happened to the humble Beyonce, and where does she come off referring to herself and her actions as being iconinc?!? Really…Really. High status, maybe… Iconic NO! not close… the material that has been coming out lately had deff. been sub-par…
Fri, February 27, 2009 9:03 AM
the other photos are blah, but I love the cover photo!
Im such a fan of big hair

Stop hating! Beyonce is a master at the craft of enteraining and putting on a good show. She knows how to market herself and she has staying power. Let’s praise our people when they are sucessfull and good at what they do. :)
Fri, February 27, 2009 9:09 AM
i wonder if that’s her real hair. iv’e seen her hair similar to this before when she was at a beach some while ago she was swimming and all and her hair looked naturally curly. i don’t know, what yall think?
Fri, February 27, 2009 9:09 AM
THose dresses are bomb….dereon? probably not… GET IT BEY!!!
Fri, February 27, 2009 9:13 AM
I think she looks fab and it’s wonderful that she has a great marriage and I wish them all the happiness in the world. It’s a great thing with you have a passion for and love what you do, it’s makes you a better, happier person. A lot of people posting all the nonsense really need to take note, find something that makes you happy and maybe you wouldn’t spend all your time focusing on finding something wrong with what other people do. Although, for some of you I know that’s hard considering that some people are just naturally hateful and will never change…
Fri, February 27, 2009 9:15 AM
Yeah she a good wife, becauseumaruhh bet not nobody ask me what my husband does to get on my nerves I might not be able to contain myself hahaha. J/K I can believe she’s messy too much public perfectness frontin’ going on no man likes a messy woman lol who knew someone was gonna say that?LOL

Its true…whenever I see Beyonce in a ‘white’ reference (magazine, commercial, etc) I swear I be lookin like oh whose that white chick. But I never have that problem when its a black reference…
Fri, February 27, 2009 9:16 AM
something nice–um, her hair looks good on the cover.
something real–i wish she would take a 5-10 year sabbatical. seriously.
oh, and her stans need to worship jesus and not her. that is all.
Fri, February 27, 2009 9:17 AM
here comes the crazy beyawnce stans!! :rolls eyes:
Fri, February 27, 2009 9:18 AM
She looks gorgeous in these pics; got to give her props, she is the hardest working woman in show business! Her working with homeless shelters is definitely a good look for her.
Fri, February 27, 2009 9:23 AM
i respect bey, i love her relationship with Jay. I just wish she would go back to school to broaden her perspective on life and stop talking about her dollars in a time of a recession. I think she has lost some of her humbleness. I am a true Bey fan from the start of her career to now. I am just excepting more in her craft. It has not evolved to iconic status. She does look fab in whatever she wears and I respect her work ethics. I just think her quailty of work needs to be a little more mature and not racy.
Fri, February 27, 2009 9:25 AM
lol, that smile in the blue dress looks fake as all hell. plus it looks like she has sinuses based on her nose looking a lil red, lol. tyra would say ’smile with ur eyes, bey.’ and bey would prolly get an attitude.
Fri, February 27, 2009 9:37 AM
Well guess we won’t need to read the Ebony article since the whole interview is posted here..lol.
The pics are absoloutley breathtaking
I don’t know how the haters can deny her beauty
I’m glad she is finally admitting to being the man’s wife..it’s like jeesh we already know the deal
Glad to see she is somewhat human and not a neat freak..but I’m still convinced she is 90% alien!!
Fri, February 27, 2009 10:14 AM
These are great pics and the except from the interview is good too.
I completely understand what she is saying when she mentions she won’t do certain things if it’s not iconic. I think people are too hung up on that word instead of seeing the real meaning behind it. She’s made the fun r&b/pop songs. She’s had the catchy #1 song. Now she wants to do things that are timeless. With certain artists you can put on an album they did 15 yrs ago and still bump it today because it doesn’t feel dated. I mean I can’t see myself listening to the new song by The Dream or Ciara ten yrs from now. I think that’s the approach she’s taking with her music videos as well. Single Ladies is a very catchy song but the video is just so basic and full of energy and feels like something that came out last yr or 5 yrs ago. I think all music artist have the intention of being remembered for their work for years to come else why would they strive for that higher level of success.
I really respect the fact that she’s not just trying to attach herself to the latest fad or gimmick. It shows she has more respect for what she is doing and isn’t content with just being hot for the next 3-5 years. She wants to leave a positive mark and how can you not respect that.
Fri, February 27, 2009 10:15 AM
I love waking up to this. I think Beyonce did a great job with this spread. I love her in the blue dress. and you guys are right it would have been nice to see Mrs B in one of these numbers for the Oscars. That Dereon dress didnt do anything for me this time. haha, n its cool she said she’s kind of a mess in the interview, messy people are down to earth! lol. Good morning YBFers!
Fri, February 27, 2009 10:18 AM
shes a little full of herself but fabulous nonetheless. I definitely admire her!
Fri, February 27, 2009 10:18 AM
Great shots. Good interview.
Why are people so mad that a person wants to aspire to their best? Would you not encourage your child or family to dream?
Anyhow, gonna pick up my copy when it hits the stands.

agreed. she just needs better PR handelers to teach her what and what not to say. One thing about Icons is that they always appear to be humble before the public gives them that title. That might be where Bey is falling behind. But I love her anyway!
Fri, February 27, 2009 10:25 AM
Looking Good Bey!
Fri, February 27, 2009 10:30 AM
So she thought the move “Obssessed” was an “iconic” project?? Its gonna go straight to DVD 10 days after its release.
Fri, February 27, 2009 10:31 AM
Loving the pictures. She certainly is a businesswoman making major power moves, you gotta love her for that.
I must admit this cover is the most “ethnic” I’ve seen Bey look if that makes any sense.

I must say I agree. Who doesn’t wish to be timeless? There’s nothing wrong with wanting to be around for awhile.
LOL@what Jay does to get on her nerves…no comment…could b freaky! :)
Fri, February 27, 2009 10:34 AM
Jay-z is still a single guy. Beyonce doesn’t care about him. I bet she doesn’t even love him.
SHE’S PURE FAKNESS!
I LOVE JIGGA AND HE SHOULD WIFED A CHICK WHO STARTS A FAMILY WITH HIM.
AND THE FRIENDS SHE’S TALKING A JIGGA’S FRIENDS.
Fri, February 27, 2009 10:38 AM
After beeing together with a dude almost 8 years, you should have kids by now. that’s why she doesn’t keep it real with him.
Fri, February 27, 2009 10:39 AM
So I guess since Beyonce is on a black magazine she is wearing a more ethnic hair style
Fri, February 27, 2009 10:40 AM
i wish she would come up with some more poses..they are always the same…
Fri, February 27, 2009 10:47 AM
“I’LL NEVER RETIRE” UGHHHHHHHHHHH! THERE GOES MY DAY!!! HOPEFULLY SHE’LL CHANGE HER MIND ONCE AGAIN ON THAT…..
THERES SOOOOO MUCH BETTER OUT HERE, i.e, IN THE SINGING DEPT. QUEEN LATIFAH, SHE DID THE DAMN THING AT THE OSCARS!!! two words LAURYN HIll, another AMY Winehouse.
My goodness I miss them, BE”yawn”CE should thank her lucky stars that these woman were handed such odd destinys/
Fri, February 27, 2009 10:48 AM
If you wanna be an icon you shouldn’t tell people that. If you wanna win an Oscar you shouldn’t tell people. she needs better PR people.

I looooooved Lauryn Hill but i can’t even bring myself to play her album anymore. It just feels like wasted talent. But then again you can’t just give success and career to someone who doesn’t want it and isn’t willing to put in the work and sacrifice for it. Thats the thing about Beyonce people say she’s always out there and why can’t she sit down. She puts in the work to be where she is and maintain that level of success and respect. If you don’t people will easily move on to the next artist willing to keep you entertained.
Fri, February 27, 2009 11:02 AM
Beyonce takes nice photos,& I like her hair curley she needs to wear that often. On that note i wish she would stop doing interviews she does not offer anything new. Before all the stans get crazy,Iknow her pesonal life is just that but it would be nice to share just a little more about her& husband just a little,LOL
(RANT) Tell Me Why Do I have To Go For My Review & were not getting a Bonus or a Raise,WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

…PLUS a more AFRO LOOK for the cover…EVERYTHING about this bish is sooooooo FAKE!…Ya’ll listen to Jay right?…Do u think he’d marry such a prude?!… perpetratin’ azz…B just BEEEEE yourself for once…and stop speaking for acceptance, u got it already
Fri, February 27, 2009 11:05 AM
BEYONCE IS ONLY WEARING THIS AFRO WIG AND THROWING UP THE BLACK POWER FIST BECAUSE SHE IS PROBABLY CAMPAINING FOR THE ANGELA DAVIS ROLE THAT’S SET TO START SHOOTING IN 2010….
She is to glib and unintelligent to play Davis…Davis defended herself in Federal court against murder charges….Beyonce probably couldn’t defend herself out of a card board box…Davis has written several books and is a professor right now…Beyonce probably has never even read a book and doesn’t even have a GED…Davis is one of the greatest anti-establishment, black female leaders of our time…Beyonce is a person of convenience, who was a Republican and sang for the Bushes for years…who decided to become a Democrat because of her hubby and jumped on the Obama campaign at the very end when it was pretty much sewn up that he was going to win…
I USED TO BE A FAN…BUT NOW I SEE THAT SHE IS FAKE…MONEY HUNGRY AND SELFISH….THEY ARE SEVERAL BLACK ACTRESSES IN HOLLYWOOD RIGHT NOW THAT ARE BETTER SUITED TO PLAY DAVIS…some of which are
JADA PINKETT-SMITH
SANAA LATHAN
TARIJI HENSON
REGINA KING
ALFRE WOODARD-playin an older Davis
ANGELA BASSETT-older Davis
(forgive me if i mispelled their names)
If Beyonce weren’t a selfish hack and if she really respected the story of Davis and the craft of acting she would acknowledge her many shortcomings as an actress and campaign on the behalf of any one of the actresses listed above or maybe another…
BUT BECAUSE SHE IS AN ATTENTION HOG…IF OFFERED SHE’LL TAKE THE ROLE AND THROUGHLY BUTCHER ONE OF THE GREATEST BLACK STORIES OF OUR TIME.
Fri, February 27, 2009 11:06 AM
Dang….I was really hoping that she would retire and sat down somewhere, but I guess I was wrong. Just no more double cd’s with only 10 or 12 songs, please.
Other than that, the interview and pics seem really solid. I am glad that Ebony asked the questions that we really wanted to know…
Good Morning Fab Ones!!
Fri, February 27, 2009 11:07 AM
ANGELA DAVIS=ICON!
BEYONCE=ELITE ESTABLLISHMENT HACK.

Exactly, she needs to stay true to herself and stop “putting on” to impress and please. She is so predictable. She gets more fake by the month; it’s becoming more noticeable.
Fri, February 27, 2009 11:20 AM
to I co sigh that… I never thought of it that way but soo true..lol
Beyonce is very pretty but these pics arent that flattering.
Fri, February 27, 2009 11:25 AM
loves it!!!!
Fri, February 27, 2009 11:46 AM
She looks great! I love the hair too! She did that!
Fri, February 27, 2009 11:51 AM
Personally I am no beyonce stan, but Beyonce has become Iconic. From when one of her words “Bootylicious” is in the dictionary and She came out with the name Beyonce Knowles, but everybody and their mama now only call her by Beyonce. I think we can say she has! You get yours girl, cause I’m sure gonna get mine!!!
Fri, February 27, 2009 11:59 AM
She’s really looking like her Mom here. I like the weight on her, but that first white dress is awful. I like the second white dress.
I don’t ever really care for the way she comes off in interviews. She always seems so detached from reality. Like you hear her speak then listen to her music and it’s like Huh? lol I just wish she would be herself instead of this person she’s created. Just say I’m a paper chaser and I’m here trying to get it. I’d respect the honesty. All that out of love from the heart crap is so fake Bey. lol
I thought her parents have a very rocky marriage and were/are seperated often? There’s that delusional thing again

PEOPLE!?!?!?! What the F is wrong with this girl wanting to be successful? I can’t believe you guys call her fans, Stans. What grade are you guys in? How old are you? So everyone that has anything nice to say about her is a so-called “Stan”? So I guess the person that posted this and many other articles about her is a Stan as well? This is her sh*t, and she’s always complimenting this hotness of a chick. She’s also real when Bey jacks up. More often than not, she’s complimentary. You guys need to find something better to do than to constantly badger Bey and her fans. It’s just a damn shamed that you spend so much time critiquing her music, looks, comments, and personal life. And why do we have to know what’s going with her and Jay? What’s going on with you and your mate these days? I’d like to see some of your personal lives, fashion choices, and music posted SOMEWHERE. Oh, but then we’d have heard of you by now. I’m nowhere near a Stan, especially being what a Stan truly is(by Em’s definition). I am a fan but I’m a fan of many. Everything this chick has her hand in has been hot, whether it’s because of her or who else is involved. Which means she makes good business choices. An earlier poster commented that ALL of her movies are flops. Child please, which one? Oh you mean because it wasn’t an Oscar nominated film? Child go sit down somewhere. When you get you own made-up word in the dictionary for all to use and see(Bootylicious, in case you didn’t know), then talk the talk. I have to agree with the ‘wanting to be iconic’ comment. Really, why would she even admit to that. I understand people wanting longevity and to be remembered for their contributions to the entertainment industry, but to broadcast that you want to be an icon? The motives just seem wrong and definitely lack humility. I think she should aspire to be a good person, and not be so self promoting. Promotion comes from God. Let Him put you on that pedestal Ms. B. By the way, I admire that she’s made a commitment to helping others, particularly women and children in shelters. Use to do that myself and is definitely rewarding in so many ways.
Fri, February 27, 2009 12:03 PM
Speak 4 yourselves she is already iconic…. I mean stop hatin it’s no denying the girl is the best! she is number 1! There is no replacing her even if you tried! No other will ever come close!!!! Love u B 4ever!!!!
Fri, February 27, 2009 12:04 PM
I don’t understand how all of these people are on here calling this black woman fake? Do you know her? I would be emabarassed to be such a hater. I don’t care if you don’t like her acting or singing. Stop HATING! Its silly for us to put down each other as women and as BLACK women, but I guess that’s what we do best. I stay keep doing your thing as long as you can be in the spotlight take it. It’s plenty of talentless people in Hollywood. So why are we hating on her for making her money?! As it has already been stated yeah there are other people that have talent, but are they doing the work to be successful? I love Lauryn Hill, but if she don’t want it, we can’t make her take it.
Fri, February 27, 2009 12:04 PM
Someone said Bey doesn’t have her GED, Is that true??? Please tell me it’s not!
Fri, February 27, 2009 12:07 PM
Beyonce, let the haters hate (that’s their job) and you continue to do you. You are an independent woman; you make your own money, you do charity work, you set goals for yourself and you are a prototype that other young ladies can aspire.

I think you gave it to her a lil bit. But i am with you sorta. you have some valid points. Especially on the acting tip. I dont think she should play this role.
Fri, February 27, 2009 12:25 PM
I like Beyonce and I think that she is a great performer. I have no problem with Beyonce wanting to be an icon-i.e, someone like Tina Turner or Barbara Streisand. Beyonce does not want to be hot girl for the moment i.e., Ashanti she wants a 25-30 year career.
In terms of Angela Davis, there was a rumor that the director wanted Beyonce but there was no way to know if Beyonce has even heard of the project or wants it for that matter.
People talk about Beyonce’s acting skills as if she is the worst actrerss in the world. Beyonce seems to be getting better with each movie. Furthermore, people have said for years that Madonna or Mariah can’t act and they are still making movies. Lastly, people made a big deal about the fact that Cadillac Records did not do well but Jennifer Hudson’s movie “Secret Life of Bees” did poorly as well and that movie had an oscar winning actress and Alicia Keys. Black movies by and large do not gross alot unless you’r Tyler Perry. White America loves seeing a black man dressed up as an overweight black woman.

i love this woman as a person as an artist as everythings she does
keep hating that makes her richer
keep dioing your thing B
Fri, February 27, 2009 12:26 PM
i love beyonce!
Fri, February 27, 2009 12:28 PM
I personally believe that it is distasteful to broadcast that you want to be iconic. The women that are considered to be iconic in the industry did not continue to broadcast that they wanted to be an icon they were elevated to that status through their perspective work. I think that she should just let her work speak for itself. I am personally not a big fan of beyonce but I will admit I did enjoy her latest album, but I do not consider her album to be iconic or a “masterpiece”. She didn’t even have a song of her own to perform at the president’s inauguration she had to sing another iconic woman’s song. And lets not even mention her acting she IMO has not grown as an actress either. So I will gladly consider her as an icon once she has done something truly ICONIC.
Fri, February 27, 2009 12:30 PM
cut the woman some slack here ok…shes gorgeous shes doing her thing shes happy with her marriage..shoot i wanna be as content when i get her age and she has the greatest job in the world..what more can u do than to just love it..or be a hater lol but im pretty sure the haters are because their tired of the too exposed which i would have to agree and some of her styling sense which i also have to agree…but i LL OO VV EE her hair!!! but u wont see that on an Ells mag cover for real…sup wit that bey?!
Fri, February 27, 2009 12:58 PM
So it seems like some of you ignoramuses don’t know what the word ‘iconic’ means. A few examples are Michael Jackson, Michael Jordan, Janet Jackson, Tiger Woods, Oprah Winfrey, etc. These people mastered their craft and made a ishload of money and won many notable accolades. If you happen to be deaf, dumb or blind Beyonce is an icon. She is one of today’s best examples of what any woman should be. The best part is she is Black. For you to say she is not in tune with reality is wrong because she knows her acconplishments. A$$ whoopin’ and all Rihanna will never even touch the rim of what Beyonce has done. And, neither of you side line haters ever will either. God does not bless blasphemers aka haters :) Give respect when it is do. Because she makes us look good. She has no porn tapes, no drug/alcohol issues, nor an apparent violent streak. U people and the media just hate when someone is happy with God’s blessings. She makes 80 mil a year. Why would she have drama if she’s doing the right thing? I love reading posts about Bey though. It’s always riddled with low lives that only read and comment to hate. Tisk tisk tisk.
Fri, February 27, 2009 1:32 PM
Okay so she doesn’t do things for money, but does things to be iconic? Kind of the same thing to me, they are both motivated by wanting power. Everyone wants to be the best at their craft from Singers to Lawyers to doctors. But I think it takes away from art to only do things that are going to be huge, basically she doesn’t take risks. This is probably why she likes playing legends on film, because I guess she thinks that will win her an Oscar. But if she will pay attention most Oscar winners are people who took risks and small projects that no one supported. I.e. Slumdog Millionaire. I wish she will top saying “iconic” it still won’t change the fact that she has done good but still has a while to go.
I am liking her new confidence, getting married does that “my husband” My cousin just got married, she is always like I’m going to go cook for my husband, girl can’t even cook, LOL.
Fri, February 27, 2009 1:37 PM
What growth are you getting from this article? She ain’t sayin’ $hit! And I’m sorry but those clothes look like they came straight out of the ASHRO catalog! Please google it and you’ll see what I mean.
I like Beyonce’s music, but I don’t like person…well the person she puts out there.

I just have a question about the movies comment. “Secret Lives of Bees” cost 11 million and has grossed more than 40 million. so it actually is a success, aslo it is considered a small budget film(anything less than 20 million is) “Cadillac Records” cost 12 million and has only grossed 8.5 million. It hasn’t even made a profit. So it was more unsuccessful. But I wouldn’t even compare the two, because it was different release dates, and what not.
Fri, February 27, 2009 1:42 PM
I agree@Ella Leone and Sparkle. People are FINDING things to not like Bey on. But then again, it is what they know. They can’t possibly think no other way. Think people, what Bey is saying is that she wants longevity and that she wants a career that she can be proud. That’s what Iconic means. Like really. Stop it, people.

Beyonce is not the example of a strong black woman. Without being the center focus of attention, she will not be able to cope. The attention and publicity she receives is a shield for which she’s able to hide the battle within: insecurities, jealousy and competitiveness.
Also, she was not very successful when she began dating Jay-Z. He was, however, she was just branching off from Destiny Child and he worked with her on her first solo album.
Beyonce knows not to discuss anything nerving in regards to Jay-Z. That would be like disclosing his business and Jay-Z is not having that. Beyonce knows the real deal.
Beyonce continues to strive to stay in the spotlight. Most of these companies are not calling on her, rather she is soliciting them.
Another nugget: There’s no celebrity that will look their best all the time. Beyonce should stop putting so much emphasis on her looks. Rather she should relax, act a little humane and stop focusing and posing for the cameras around her. Maybe, then she can find the energy to put her purse in its proper place rather than in the kitchen.
Beyonce may never retire but the people will eventually retire her. Out with the old, in with the new. Time and seasons change, and so do a new generation of talent. That’s life, there’s nothing under the sun that remains forever. Now that’s a fact!

I dont like Beyonce that much but those are nice pics and her interview actually makes her seem human cause for a while I was wondering. She seems fake because she keeps shit to herself and aint nothing wrong with that. People like to tear her apart! Why not keep some things personal.
And who gives a shit if she dont want to have children now. Jay Z obviously married her because he loves her…why should he have married a woman to give him children, is that all women are good for? Shit. Got damn. Get a Grip.

I need Beyonce to stop ruining people’s chance at having their life story and accomplishments told on the big screen, by PLAYING them.
this chick CANNOT act – just cause you want to and have the means to doesn’t mean you should.
I can’t sing – I want to – but I can’t and trust me if my none singing ass had a single – ya’ll would be up here saying sit down and shut up.
So Mrs. Carter – stick to what you do best. and it ain’t acting…unless its acting like a singer…and not a drug addicted one.
Angela Davis deserves her story to be told and immortalized. not a box office flop because the leading lady can’t act.
I agree with the Jada suggestion – would make a fabulous Angela

Beyonce looks great! The cover is def fab. Love the natural look of the photoshoot. That black and white dress is gogeous. The hair is on point as well. She should rock that. Ebony and Bey did it with this shoot!
I don’t understand why some wish she would slow down. Are you successful at any of your careers? Would you slow down so someone else could get the promotion? No. I think if it’s put in that perspective some may see how silly it sounds. There’s nothing wrong with wanting and striving to be the best you can be in your field. Beyonce is def. doing that and represents well. She’s talented, and an overall great artist. I know I strive for the best in my life, so I just wish the best for Beyonce. Someone said a “real woman’ wouldn’t try to be an icon? Are you kidding me? That is the true definition of shade and hate. Who are you to hold someone back from their dreams…..brighten up your life and reach higher seriously.

I’m sorry but there is such a thing as over saturation and I believe beyonce has over saturated the market. When you do this you devalue your brand…or it eventually becomes devalued. I’m all for her wanting to be iconic. If it is your dream to win grammys, oscars, and a tony award…hey more power to you. But you have to be true to it. She’s already proven herself in music (I don’t like her music but many can argue me down). She can afford to fall back for a few years on music and dedicate her time to perfecting her acting…which needs A LOT of help. If she is serious about acting the best thing to do is to study and go into theater. Theater in my opinion is where you learn the basics of acting techniques that can transfer well on to screen. It is also a great path to getting credibility. Now there are some singers who are naturally good actresses…beyonce isn’t one of them and she needs to work hard on that craft. Of course she’s not going anywhere…she was trained since she was a child for this…singing and performing on stage is what she knows. And it has proven to be good for her. But she should be dedicating the same amount of time and training to acting…she can afford to. I used to be a fan…back in early DC…but now I am just really tired of her. Yes she’s pretty, and takes great pictures, she makes great catchy club music…but what else? She says that she is inspired by love. Ok..I don’t see it and I don’t feel it. I feel that she is inspired by money. I don’t see her for the person that she is…I see her as a brand, over saturating the market for the love of money. Plenty of you can argue me down on this…but hey that’s my opinion. In these economic times I’d like to see past the brand “beyonce” and see something more personal…more soulful. I’d like to see past the glamed up brand and see more of the person. She mentioned that she loves to paint in one of her interviews. Now she might not like to show her paintings…and that is her right. But how about working with kids and painting. Or hosting a New Orleans children’s art festival. This would go past the brand name.

That was a wig honey. ;)
anybody with common sense can tell the difference between a wig and a blend, and that was a blend sweety. think about it how could a wig get curly in the water? and also from the video footage and photos i’ve seen of her as child her natural hair wwas curly idk now prabably not, because of the texturizer or relaxer in her hair maybe if it gets wet who knows

Beyonce is already a Icon….what artist in the game have more dedicated “stans” than her. I’m not even being funny I go to website after website and all her posts are 100 plus comments of such dedicated fans telling others how they will never have her success, they are so jealous how she is the best thing since sliced bread shit let them tell it she can even walk on water she is their GOD…she can’t retire , their lives depend on it! Thats more than a Icon! lol

The third to last pic of Beyonce (her in the black corsette) is the ultimate fabulous. It’s by far my favorite pick of her. She looks beautiful, poised, and it has a more sincere feel to it. Way to go to the photographer and the art director…the folx that made it happen, and of course the beautiful portrait…all covered up.
peace.

ICONIC:
The word iconic is a term used in a wide number of contexts for an image, picture, or representation;
It is a sign or likeness that stands for an object by signifying or representing it either concretely or by analogy;
An icon is a religious work of art, most commonly a painting, from Eastern Orthodox Christianity;
Icon is also used, particularly in modern culture, in the general sense of symbol — i.e. a name, face, picture, edifice or even a person readily recognized as having some well-known significance or embodying certain qualities: one thing, an image or depiction, that represents something else of greater significance through literal or figurative meaning, usually associated with religious, cultural, political, or economic standing.
THEY SAY YOU SHOULD BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR BECAUSE YOU JUST MAY GET IT. This, unfortunately, applies to Beyonce. She wished for and announced to the world her desire to be iconic and now she actually is iconic, but she is iconic in this way: She is known for, and symbolic worldwide as a black female vocal star who entertains by over-the-top singing, winding, grinding, coochie popping, lap dancing, and leg-spreading. She is also known for lying, jacking, boasting, exposing her nipples and crotch, and insulting people’s intelligence with her transparent manipulations while simultaneously claiming to be humble and grounded. She has accomplished her goal – but she is an icon of bad taste and poor judgment.
There are many things about Beyonce that compliment her as a person and entertainer and that she is known for having or doing however, she is not iconic for those things and they have all long been represented and made iconic by women who preceded her.
This not about hate or love. This is about keeping it real – not being mean and not putting blinders on. It is what it is. Beyonce wants to have her cake and eat it too, but she can’t. She chose the behavior and the consequence is that that is what she will forever be known for.
Fri, February 27, 2009 7:51 PM
Typo: This IS not about hate or love.

I’m typing this with no shade just logic. Beyonce isn’t oversaturating anything, she’s just using her God given talents, and working hard for it. You work hard using your education whatever level it is, every single day to make MONEY. Everyone works to make money, Beyonce is performing and doing what she loves. People who are out of work may think you’re oversaturating the market, but you’re not going to quit doing what you love to satisfy those who hate on you or who don’t like you would u? The answer is no. So why expect Beyonce to do the same?
She’s talented, and hardworking to a lot of her fans, even non fans, so why should she stop doing what she do at the young age of 27 because people are tired of seeing her? These are the same people who go to blogs that she’s on to purposely see her, or listen to full songs and watch videos. She’s not making you do it. You don’t have to go on these sites, but you choose to. You can watch t.v, without her on it, unless she’s hosting the Nightly News too. She must be doing something right to have ppl like you still commenting.
You wouldn’t stop doing what you love, and how you like to do it, because others don’t want to see you?? So why should she? She’s going to keep performing and doing what she loves in the world as she should. She’s only 27. Everybody should see themselves as a brand to market themselves effectively, so theres nothing wrong with building yourself up. Leadership seminars everywhere teach this, why shouldn’t Beyonce perform and do endorsements when she’s in high demand. You mention what you’d like to see her do, yet she’s oversaturated. It cant’ be both ways. Just throwing some logic in there somewhere. Whether you’re a fan or stan, I can’t imagine why some would want another person to stop doing what they love, even though you continue to follow them. Interesting

Yeah i was JUST thinking that. Funny how shes wearing West African-looking traditional attire in the first pic & her hair is curly. Not to mention, is that the Black Power salute on the cover? She’s a hypocrite. I know she has a stylist & she’s versatile and what not. But damn, there is NO continuity. If anything, I see more white-ish Beyonce with the crazy blonde-like weaves more than the natural looking, Afrocentric Beyonce she’s trying display herself as now.
Just because she’s on Ebony doesnt give her a right to act all “ebony”. Then she’ll be on ELLE mag next month wearing a friggin’ crazy blonde weave, with her skin looking bleached out & airbrushed as ever.

Why is it uncalled for to call her weavee ? The girl claims to be proud of being black/african american or whatever you want to call it. Then, is forever rocking weaves. Yes when you are in the industry you wear wigs and weaves because all of the pampering has a toll on your hair- yes i get it. But ahh when on vacation what is up with that. Really though, if you are not ashamed of yourself, or feel that you are less then you will not hide yourself. so if she constantly wears a weave to the point that her headside is peeling off, or picking out then ahhh yah I think it is very fitting to call her weavee. Why do you not like that ? Is it because you wear weave on a constant basis ? and at this point I do not want to be right. I hope you say that you dont wear weave at all.
As for Weavonce. Well she is cool. But the best she is not. SHe is a freaking uneducated stripper who can sing. SHe stands for nothing. I dont see how she is selective at all with endorsement deals. You promote hair colour while rocking weave. You say that you do not trust credit cards, yet when AMex decides to throw some cash your way then u jump on that. Please you married a freaking drug dealer and you are acting like u are selective. is that what your parents worked so hard for, for you to go to private school to marry a drug dealer.

You promote hair colour while rocking weave. You say that you do not trust credit cards, yet when AMex decides to throw some cash your way then u jump on that. Please you married a freaking drug dealer and you are acting like u are selective. is that what your parents worked so hard for, for you to go to private school to marry a drug dealer.
is that what your parents worked so hard for, for you to go to private school to marry a drug dealer. This is really really uncalled and irrespectful to Jay-z family and beyoncé too.CANT U RESPET 2 HUMANS ‘S LOVE?

DID YOU JUST MISS THIS PART?
She said she doing charity work such as working with women and children through shelters and organizations. She says she is mentoring and counseling them.
She’s counseling? Don’t you have to be trained or have some sort of certificate to counsel? If she’s actually doing that…then I stand corrected.

@ Miss Golden:
You completely misread one of my many points. No one is saying that she should stop doing what she loves. But she can take a break from it to perfect something that she’s aspiring be “great at”. Acting isn’t an art that you can mulititask with other careers. And if you are saying that one of your ultimate goals is to win an Oscar and a Tony, then you need to respect the art and dedicate time and training to achieve it. Because of her success in music her name has opened up doors outside of music. Her name can get her parts in movies but it can’t win her an oscar. You have to have natural talent and be dedicated to the art. If you are going to shoot for the stars and put it out there that you want to win the highest award in acting, then you need to be focused on that.

How do you know that she is not doing just that? With each role that she takes she will become a little bit better.

Miss Beyonce, you aint gotta worry about Massa, you betta start worrin’ about other negroes that are upset wit you for tryin to be da best at what you do. Fogit dat hard work, go sit in yo house and not talk, cuz us negras are gettin tired of seein’ other hard workin’ negras. Massa gon be spectin mo from us. We tired of seein you carry yoself like a lady. We tired of you tryin to act cuz Hollywood ain’t big enuf fo no singa wantin’ to reach fo sometin bigga. The thangs dat you see otha folk doin’, dat ain’t fo you to do. If you don’t start cussin’, doin’ drugs, and cheatin’ on yo husban, we really gon be upset. And da criticizin’ gon get worse if you don’t ack n say what we thank is bes. We jus ain’t happy wit you not livin’ yo life like we thank you should. You hea me Miss Beyonce?
Beyonce keep doing what you do. This is your destiny and I pray that you will NOT apologize for your success and hard work. It is my prayer that you will NOT stop desiring to be better, or become better at what you do. I thank you for inspiring me to want the best, because God doesn’t want us to settle for mediocrity. I pray that God will continue to bless you abundantly! And I know that you will continue to use those blessings to help others. Thanks for being ONE of the positive female role models for young girls.
I so feel you…i have been saying the same things this album. WHAT ICON YOU KNOW EVER WENT AROUND SAYING “I WANT TO BE AN ICON”? NO ONE!!! IT JUST HAPPENS. But she always does that. She says stuff over & over so she can implant it in people’s heads. Just chill out & let it happen. And if she really wants to work towards it she needs to take a break & write some songs w/ substance b/c she is talking about absolutely NOTHING on Diva. Nothing. People need a break from her. OVERKILL is not the word. I mean she’s a great artist & everything. very entertained but give it a rest woman. I’m so over it!!!!

last Beyonce comment…..
she’s not going anywhere. I can’t fault anyone for being “tired” of Bey and feeling like she’s “oversaturated”, because sometimes I get tired of seeing her brand too…..however, I’ve just resolved myself to the fact that she’s not going anywhere for a very long time……..regardless of hate, criticism, or folx like me getting tired of seeing her from time to time. But for every one person that’s probably tired of seeing her, there are five people that are craving for more……
I would prefer if she didn’t play Angela Davis…just a personal preference…but other than that, go on head girl. …as I do research for a paper and am reminded of the gross levels of social inequality and poverty that exist around the world, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa…where folx depend on emergency food aid just to eat one meal a day….Beyonce and her ‘iconic’ status fade into black……
PEACE.
