Serena is not ugly, she just is not a “traditionally pretty” meaning light skinned or just pecan tan. I know that sounds funny but think about it when ever a picture of Serena or Venus is on the site everyone always say how ugly they are. Now Halle can be on this site looking strange and the only comment she gets is about her clothes. Why are the comments about Serena’s looks or her build instead of what she is wearing? Serena is thick so she bulks up because of her job, if I were making millions I would do the same. Call a spade a spade, its her skin color that everyone is focused on.
I have experienced this from all perspectives, most people in my family are dark skinned while I am brown skinned. My mom is very dark, so is my father and brother. My neice and nephew are dark skinned like my brother, but because my Husband is pecan tan as they say in the south my daughter is very light. People often think she is mixed, when she is with my neice and nephew people always comment on how pretty she is because she is light skinned; however, they don’t do the same for my neice who is beautiful. This skin color thing has been an issue for us for so many years we just don’t know how to handle it.

“Love Yourselves Black People” — Exactly. Thank You. That was actually my first post, but I do often log on to look at the pictures and read about the “celebrated ones” of our culture. More than anything, I like to check out the various styles and even when I see someone wearing something I wouldn’t wear or doing something I wouldn’t do, I accept that as there thing. However, I have noticed the most hateful, disrespectful comments ever one this site and others, a lot of which I wouldn’t hear if it weren’t for this whole cyberspace thang. At first I thought to myself, ok these are just kids they don’t know any better, whatever, but there isn’t that much desensitization in the world. If you’re not part of the solution, you’re part of the problem. It’s 2009 for goodness sake! Having an opinion is fine , but if your mind, heart and soul is not in the right place how much values can it possible hold? Take care.
