So Katie Rost–Russell’s 29 year old model ex-girlfriend–took to her blog on Global Grind to give her take on the EIC of GG himself and his new younger model boo Julie:
I’m at Russell’s apartment and Julie Henderson just walked down stairs.
I’m not saying she was doing the walk of shame (but it was 12:15 pm) Let me be clear, I have no beef with Julie! We’ve just fallen at different times for the same man…
The first thing she said to me when she cascaded down the stairs was, “When are you leaving?”
I said, “in two weeks”
Her eyebrow rose in skeptic dismay.
I waited a looooong minute before telling her I wouldn’t be staying with Russell the whole time.
Ok, let’s move past all of that. I’m not a petty, competitive woman! (Yes I am) but I’m totally ok with the fact that my time with Russell was beautiful but brief. I am genuinely happy that our friendship has formed in the wake. I’m also happy that he has found someone else whose company he enjoys.
No, no, no people, I’m not going to hate on Julie Henderson! She’s extremely cute for a White girl. (I’m more partial to the ethnic look, but to each their own.) I’ve got to give it up to Julie for getting like 5000 hits on the Sports Illustrated pics and video (which are indeed smoking hot) when they were posted on Global Grind.
Anyway, when Julie and Russell got in last night and came to say goodnight to me, I was chillin in the downstairs guestroom. I had passed out listening to a Deepak Chopra’s self-help lecture with a mud mask on. Russell opened the door and asked me if I had a man in the bed. Julie told me I looked oily. They then ran upstairs giggling and having a “we’re a couple and you are a loser who is alone in bed with a f*cking mud mask on your face” moment. But like I said before, all of that is absolutely fine with me. I’m fine in the guest room, Fine fine fine!
I’ve written a lot about the big 29th year on my blogs. It’s so crazy that 30 is approaching and it’s so bizarre to look back and see that my modeling career has been a decade long. As I start to contemplate the next phase, sometimes the young 20-something-year-olds like Julie challenge me to face my ego and to consider what’s next. I’ve had my time and now she is having hers.
Russell always instills in his friends to consider what your gift is and how you can give to others. He was flipping through my portfolio as I recounted the Julie Henderson-meets-Katie Rost moment (unfortunately he was hiding out and missed the whole thing).
With his always pleasing and serene glow he said, “You’ve been steady and you’ve been in this game for a long time. Maybe everyone doesn’t know your name but you’ve had a really great career and now you get to think about sharing your other talents with the world.”
Ahhh, sharing and giving back, that’s always a good place to start…
- Katie Rost
Ummmm….all this over Uncle Russ?
What Matt McConaughey had to say about black women when you read the rest…

So Matt McConaughey did an interview with ELLE magazine recently. And here’s a snippet of what he had to say:
ELLE: Any woman you can think of who might not be coverworthy, but whom you find attractive?
MM: Not so specifically, but yeah. And I see it more with black women, who get dressed up and they’re wearin’ everything to fit snug, and they’re walking the walk. And you’re like, Man, look at you go! Where did you get that? She might be a larger package, but boy, she sure understands how she’s wrapped.
Hmmm. Some folks are taking this as a compliment saying Matt is known to like back women, while others took offense to it. Your thoughts?

Tue, May 12, 2009 2:18 PM
RUSSELL IS A HOE! OH AND MATTHEW, I THINK THE WORD U WERE LOOKING FOR IS THICK. NOT A LARGER PACKAGE, WE’RE JUST THICK.
Tue, May 12, 2009 2:18 PM
hmm not sure how i feel about the mathew c comment…
Tue, May 12, 2009 2:19 PM
hmm,, i dunno how to take that either, but seeing his pictured with a block girl, i guesss its a good thing.
Tue, May 12, 2009 2:19 PM
All that over Uncle Russ is right. I can’t even imagine. EEWWWWWWW!
Tue, May 12, 2009 2:19 PM
WOW, COULD IT BE, AM I REALLY FIRST?
Tue, May 12, 2009 2:21 PM
he is fcking a black spanish woman weather he realize it or not, and i hope she kno she’ on the black side of brazil
Tue, May 12, 2009 2:21 PM
I think it was a compliment – remember folks, he’s a country boy from TX – we all know how folks from TX sound (hint hint)…He’s still one of the finest white men out there…I love you Matty!! I’d let you get it in!!
Tue, May 12, 2009 2:22 PM
LOL! Matthew loves the sistahs and ethnic women. He was basically saying he loves the fact that women of color have such high self esteem no matter what size and he finds that sexy! That boy aint got a racist bone in his body. He loves women with dark skin, he said it before! If he doesn’t stay with this brazilian chick I know for a fact he will be with a black woman.
Tue, May 12, 2009 2:22 PM
i think matt meant well, it just came out wrong
Tue, May 12, 2009 2:22 PM
aww, aww, top 10
Tue, May 12, 2009 2:23 PM
i think matt loves chocolate women…he’s just actually saying it out loud rather than keeping the comments to him self. i’m not offended at all. i’m glad he embraces the curves of black women.
Tue, May 12, 2009 2:24 PM
i think its great for matt to show he’s attracted to black women. he’s just pretty much saying we have waaaay more confidence than “others”
Tue, May 12, 2009 2:24 PM
uncle Russ must be putting that thing down!!!!
Tue, May 12, 2009 2:24 PM
i forgot folks i was talking about matthew when i said he is doing a black brazilian girl, now the compliement was great about black woman, but i notice it came after the question was who was not cover worthy, our race of beautiful woman are worthy, righteous and the most favorable race of woman on this earth, dont let those little jungle fever episodes you see with some men are not the majority int his god given world, black woman are the law
Tue, May 12, 2009 2:24 PM
Matthew is thinking what most white men think and don’t say about black woman. I don’t think he’s familiar with the term thick but that’s clearly what he meant and that he definitely likes what he sees.
And as for Katie girl… Russ did a number on you.
Tue, May 12, 2009 2:24 PM
I agree!
Tue, May 12, 2009 2:25 PM
Well it sounds like he appreciates a thicker confident chick. It might not have come out well, but I understand what he’s trying to say.
Tue, May 12, 2009 2:25 PM
I don’t think it’s offensive. We do all come in different sizes across the board. I’d do him. Wonder if he has a small peen.
Tue, May 12, 2009 2:26 PM
I agree
Tue, May 12, 2009 2:26 PM
Why would people take offense to Matt’s comment? When I read the headline, I was a little hesitant to read it. I said please not let it be something to make me dislike him. The comment wasn’t negative. I guess when a black person says the same thing, different words, it’s alright. We need to realize the thin black people of hollywood do not rep the masses. Maybe the word “larger” is what offended some. Matthew gets a pass.
Tue, May 12, 2009 2:28 PM
a LOT of us have fat and thick very twisted…Beyonce is Thick, Tyra Banks is thick, Kim Kardashian is thick. If you’re bigger than those 3, then you are fat. And lets be real it’s a lot of biggins walking around here these days. I think what he said was a compliment. He’s basically saying he see’s a lot of larger black women who are very confident and wearing it well. Don’t be offended by the truth. Change your truth.
Tue, May 12, 2009 2:28 PM
Matthew CGI all day. I think he meant that there are beautiful black women who may not be models, but they are confident in themselves and carry themselves as a real woman should. Ya’ll know he has dabbled in a little bit of chocolate so don’t even trip!
Tue, May 12, 2009 2:29 PM
I’m giving him a pass, but it is still a backhanded compliment.
Tue, May 12, 2009 2:29 PM
Matt is fine as hell, and he can get it. No offense taken by his comment. That’s just his way of saying he likes the way sisters move.
Tue, May 12, 2009 2:30 PM
as long as he keeps his shirt off for most of his pictures then matthew mcsexy can do no wrong. that is all.
as for unckie russie—one in the bed and one in the guest room? and not embarrassed to tell the world about it? zen dick must be good. i would sit on his lap and kiss his bald head. i wont even tell a lie.
Tue, May 12, 2009 2:32 PM
I would take it as a compliment. A little backhanded, but a compliment.
Tue, May 12, 2009 2:32 PM
I JUST LOVE THOSE DIMPLES ON MATT. I’M NOT OFFENDED
Tue, May 12, 2009 2:32 PM
Yeah I read Katie’s blog a few days ago and I couldn’t believe that she is still living there while Mr. my stomach is bigger than ass flaunts his new chick around the crib! Man she’s a good one because when Russel asked if Katie had a man in the bed and ol’girl said you look oily I would’ve had some damn words for her. To me, Katie is the better looking one and I don’t get what these young women are seeing in Russ! Ugh! Don’t know how I feel about the Matt comment maybe he’s trying to say we’re thick?
Tue, May 12, 2009 2:33 PM
I don’t think he was saying black women aren’t cover worthy, but most publishers don’t consider them to be. Maybe it is because we have thickness or maybe it’s the color. When people talk about celebrities being on the covers of magazines, it’s always the question of why aren’t there enough black women on the Vogues and magazines as such. I think that’s what popped in his head when asked that question.
Tue, May 12, 2009 2:33 PM
I’m starting to think that some peeple just look for negative shit to say about something no matter how positive. Nothing Mathew said was offensive; in fact, he was trying to give black women a compliment. Black women are always talking about how our beauty goes unoticed especially plus size women and now that someone is giving credit to plus size beauties, you assholes have something to say about it! I’m starting to think that some of you are just miserable people who are hell bent on spreading your misery. Get a life! The man was giving a sincere shout out to sistas, plus size sistas. Oh and women stop fooling yourself calling yourselves “thick”. If you are big, so what as long as you can make it look good and you’re heatlhy. I can say this as I’m a big sister in a nicely wrapped package. Thanks Mathew!!!
Tue, May 12, 2009 2:33 PM
Weren’t Matt and Janet Jackson an item for a minute?
Tue, May 12, 2009 2:33 PM
Inappropriate.
I think people (especially those who are being interviewed) in general need to be more mindful of what they say, and extremely cautious when they decide to attach an ethnicity with the comment or comments they are making. The Comments or opinions that describes/relates to a race or races proves that people do see race regardless if it is in a negative or positive light. Another one bites the dust.
Tue, May 12, 2009 2:34 PM
stfu matt ur so clueless…cute comment none the less…i wonder julies gonna feel when russy dumps her funny looking ass.Oh and in my opinion kate was being nice by saying she’s “cute” I think julies face is ugly and extremely plain…absolutely nothing cute about it. Seems russy likes petty manipulative women…really running away giggly…corny.(she also looks like she’s lying about her age 20’s…yeah ok )
Tue, May 12, 2009 2:35 PM
I don’t think he meant any harm…afterall he used to be linked to Janet Jackson!
Tue, May 12, 2009 2:35 PM
Ummmmm… Well I think he meant it in a good way, just worded it kinda corny…
Tue, May 12, 2009 2:35 PM
That is funny just assuming all black women have a “bigger Package” . I try not to take offense to racial things other cultures say but i am offended that he thinks this is a compliment!!!!
Tue, May 12, 2009 2:36 PM
Matthew actually loves women of color. He actually “dated” (had sex lol) Janet Jackson, right before she got serious with JD.
Tue, May 12, 2009 2:36 PM
Katie Rost…girl I understand your pain….sometimes you have to write, cry, speak, or even shout how you feel because you will never get over it….blog as much as you want….at least you’ll have your memories for life!!!
Matthew McConaughey was asked to share his views on women who he thinks is not coverworthy, but whom you find attractive? His response is not clear, but what I gather from it, is he’s stating that black women is not coverworthy of magazines etc…but they are attractive to get F#$%!!!!! Damn this is dumb shit….
Also, his comment about “she might be a larger package, but boy, she sure understands how, she’s wrapped.” In this statement, I guess he’s saying that black women have curves and knows how to strut….I’m still not clear but those are my thoughts….
Tue, May 12, 2009 2:37 PM
The question that was asked of McConaughey was who do you DON’T think is cover worthy…he went to say Black women.
So, basically what I took from it is that he finds us attractive, but not worth flaunting. Just mere sex objects that he would like to f**k. I don’t think he’s racist, just a country bumpkin.
Tue, May 12, 2009 2:38 PM
so he was saying that black women should not be on the cover of magazines even tho they look good?? I am confused by his comment.
Tue, May 12, 2009 2:39 PM
I was really hoping that the lady writing the blog post was the white model, but no. It had to be the sister. I think she sounds stupid! I’m not sure why she even chose to write about this lady. But she makes it so obvious that everything is NOT “fine, fine, fine!” Ladies, we need to learn how to move on! Being that I LOVE Matthew, I love that he loves us! To me he is saying that white, super thin women are always on the covers. But what men see on the streets in a woman’s woman, is way more appealing!
Tue, May 12, 2009 2:40 PM
I take offense to Matthew’s comment. He basically saying, no, black womyn are not good enough for me to be with sexually, even though he obvious likes our “larger package”. It shows plain ignorance to me, on the subject of black womyn’s sexuality and he should probably just keep his mouth shut. There’s a article about it on the Womanist Musings blog.
Tue, May 12, 2009 2:40 PM
Matt said he loved the confidence and stature that Black women exuded and specifically referenced Michelle Obama….relax
Tue, May 12, 2009 2:41 PM
The question really meant who do you think doesn’t get any exposure that should get exposure! he said plus size black women! he was basically saying that plus size black women don’t get enough attention, and he is amazed how we put it on so well. Last time I checked we are the only race that can be big and still carry ourselves nicely.
Tue, May 12, 2009 2:48 PM
thank you!!! It didn’t bother when a first read it couple weeks ago, and it doesn’t bother me now. I understood what he was trying to say.
Tue, May 12, 2009 2:48 PM
Well, I’ll have to read the article because the question “who do you think doesn’t get any exposure that should?” is not what Tasha posted above.
Tue, May 12, 2009 2:48 PM
HE LIKE THAT THICK BROWN MEAT!!! Who can blame him!!!!!!!!
Tue, May 12, 2009 2:48 PM
Offensive? It’s a compliment! If anything, the QUESTION is phrased wrong…”not coverworthy” WTF? He responds to the ill-worded question and says that he FINDS BLACK WOMEN ATTRACTIVE. We know how to compliment showcase of beauty! Who is offended and why?
ELLE: Any woman you can think of who might not be coverworthy, but whom you find attractive?
MM: Not so specifically, but yeah. And I see it more with black women, who get dressed up and they’re wearin’ everything to fit snug, and they’re walking the walk. And you’re like, Man, look at you go! Where did you get that? She might be a larger package, but boy, she sure understands how she’s wrapped.
Tue, May 12, 2009 2:48 PM
black women ON AVERAGE are bigger than white women.
its so funny how so many big women claim to be so proud to be big dont want anyone to actually point out that they are big. if a thickum thinks she is beautiful then why is being called “larger” an insult but being smaller is not?
tasha you must not be 100% confident in the fact that you are a biggun. if u dont like being big then dont be big but dont get in a tizzy because someone points it out and calls you beautiful because of it.
Tue, May 12, 2009 2:49 PM
I think the only thing that could possibly be offensive about Matthew’s comment is that the question said ‘who might not be coverworthy’ but I dont think that’s offensive. I think he just realizes the discrepancy that exists with black and white women in Hollywood. Blacks talk about it all the time, it’s just an observation, not him saying he doesn’t think black women are coverworthy.
As for his comment, not offensive at all. I just don’t think he really knew how to choose his words. He’s fine as all hell tho. He could definitely get it!
Tue, May 12, 2009 2:50 PM
Russel must be drowning these women with furs, diamonds ect. He is by NO means a Sean Connery that man is 100 years old and still is fine Russel looks like he coulda been around during the early days of Christ. Lord he looks bad!!! I know looks aint every thing but I would have to have a drink or a puffy puff to be with him EWW
Tue, May 12, 2009 2:51 PM
And its no secret, that THEY don’t find us to be cover worthy.
Tue, May 12, 2009 2:54 PM
i dont think he intended for his comment to sound as ignorant as it really does. He basically said, as a whole, black women dont belong on the cover of a magazine, but they are nice to look at (read: get him aroused).
what a shame
Tue, May 12, 2009 2:55 PM
Matthew went to prom with a black woman, dated plenty of black women, and his babymama is black (nationality brazilian, but race is black).
So I’m pretty sure he doesn’t personally find us uncoverworthy, but loves us :)
Tue, May 12, 2009 2:55 PM
Why not? He says he find black women attractive.
Tue, May 12, 2009 2:57 PM
He’s saying he like black women, but we are not cover worthy and we are always bigger than any other women in the world. Thats what I got from it.
He sucks anyway and so do all of his movies.
Tue, May 12, 2009 2:58 PM
offensed ! “packages” WTF ! STFU Matt !
Tue, May 12, 2009 2:58 PM
I dont think he is saying he finds “thicker Black women attractive just that he likes how thicker black women carry themselves. When is the last time you saw this dude with a thick black woman???????????
Tue, May 12, 2009 2:59 PM
I totally agree!!! Its a line btw thick and fat and some people love to cross that line. LOL
Tue, May 12, 2009 2:59 PM
I dont and have never found matts country a$$ to be attractive he looks dirty to me but whatever to his comment i want to read the article in its entirety sometimes tash doesnt have it all there..just sayin’
Tue, May 12, 2009 3:02 PM
No offense taken whatsoever!!!! He like it!!!!
Don’t be so insecure ladies, it is what it is! :)
Tue, May 12, 2009 3:03 PM
Why on earth would someone fight over that shribbled up old man?? I know he pops viagra, must be the money.
I took offense to his comments because he is implying that all black women are fat. Unless a black woman is marketing herself as a plus size model, there is no need for him to go there. I think he could have left the “bigger package” part out and still got his point across.
Tue, May 12, 2009 3:06 PM
I don’t think he’s saying we aren’t coverworthy, thats just how the question was asked. The fact that he says ‘I see it more with black women’ says, to me, that no, he doesn’t really see black women on the covers of magazines, however he thinks they are attractive. Whoever interviewed him worded the question terribly
Tue, May 12, 2009 3:07 PM
I dont like Elle’s question? Any woman you find attraction that may not be cover worthy?? Are they kidding? What kindof question is that? His answer was pretty lame considering I dont like the question to begin with..so basically he telling us that we wear out clothes too tight and we are big? That’s what I got from this. SMDH @ Matt..
Tue, May 12, 2009 3:07 PM
How do folk from TX sound? LOL, I’d like to know.
But I think I understand what Matt was trying to say, I won’t be oversensitive about this.
Tue, May 12, 2009 3:07 PM
Coverworthy.. what the fu*& is that supposed to mean? And its Black boo, with a capitol B… OKay- And ummmmmm whatever, your preseident is BLACK.. hahahahahaha…. holla at cha black girls!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lols
Tue, May 12, 2009 3:07 PM
that girl is hurt…posting that long essay about Russell & his new JO….and even then why is she at his house if she not with him anymore, I’d laugh at her too
Tue, May 12, 2009 3:09 PM
I love Mr. McConaughey..mmm…yummmy and country…
Russell…why trip over his ole wrinkled up ass
Tue, May 12, 2009 3:10 PM
Welcome back!
Tue, May 12, 2009 3:12 PM
I don’t think Matt was saying black women are ‘fat’ or anything. We typically tend to be blessed with a little more than other women do, thats it. Why is everyone taking this so literal?? I don’t think he would have really said ‘well i love how black women have nice big asses.’ Dang
Tue, May 12, 2009 3:14 PM
what matthew is tryng to say is you might be good enough to meet my parents but your good enough to fuck.what he said was definitly not a compliment to black women.
Tue, May 12, 2009 3:14 PM
The way I understand his answer to that question is that Black Women may not be the typical “cover model”, but they’re beautiful and confident and he loves that and by Larger Package, I think he’s talking about our booties.
Tue, May 12, 2009 3:15 PM
I agree. Some people confuse “fat” with thick. I know personally because before I lost weight I thought I was “thick” but I was in denial that I was on the verge of plain old “fat”. I’ve went from a 12 to a 4 and now I am certified “THICK”.
I am not offended about what Matt says. Seems like he likes us sistas!!
Tue, May 12, 2009 3:17 PM
Matt fooped Janet Jackson??????? I did not know that
Tue, May 12, 2009 3:19 PM
*SMDH at Matt M.’s comment spoken like a 100% pure white southern boy
Whoever are the stupid fucking dildoheaded broads who think THAT is a compliment needs to join the Karine Stephens [SupaHead] “How To Get A Man” book club *SMDH [heavy sigh]
As for that dum-dum ex in Russ’s home…dayum…*SMDH AGAIN
Tue, May 12, 2009 3:20 PM
Let me respond to the Matthew’s answer to ELLE’s stupid question.. First, that question from ELLE was dumb and inappropriate…Seems like a loaded question….I am amazed people who are supposed to have journalistic skills come up with such dumb questions sometimes.
“Not coverworthy” Let’s analyse this…It means in plain and simple language – individuals who have no right being on the cover of any magazine, etc. So what Mr. McCunt is saying that black women, who seem to (by his interpretation) usually dress up a certain way are the ones that fit this criteron of NOT being coverworthy?
He could have deflected this question, by saying that black women are not usually portrayed on Covers enough and he (Matthew) can’t see why because although they do not seem to fit in the Hollywood mold of beauty, they look sexy and confident in their own skin……WHY COULDN’T HE HAVE SAID SOMETHING LIKE THAT.
He comes across as ignorant…REMEMBER NOW…SOME OF THOSE WHITE GUYS ONLY LIKE TO HIT IT, BUT WOULDN’T BE SEEN WITH IT!!!
THAT’S MY TAKE ON MR. MATTHEW MCCONAGHEY’S SO CALLED COMPLIMENT….HE COULD TAKE THAT AN SHOVE IT UP HIS BONGO PLAYING, WEED SMOKING ASS!!
Tue, May 12, 2009 3:21 PM
Might not be coverworthy but he finds attractive…and he says larger black women in tight clothes who walk around not caring what folks think (essentially). Okay, whatevs. Why would I care what he thinkgs? Hopefully, he meant it positively…so what if he didn’t.
Tue, May 12, 2009 3:26 PM
Russell needs to go sit down somewhere with his old ass still trying to hump young chicks…loose balls & all. (lol)
Matt didn’t offend me at all. He’s just in awe of curvalicious & bootylicious sistas.
Tue, May 12, 2009 3:27 PM
He was most definately complimenting us! Hope some of ya’ll don’t trip. Unlike a lot of men even black men (uncle wesley) in hollywoon, He seems like he would date a sista and flaunt her to the world and be genuine about it!! lol Go Matt, too sexy
Tue, May 12, 2009 3:29 PM
Note To Matthew: Not all black women are larger, or thicker than average, just like not all white women are assless….time have changed, black women come in small sizes too, and many white women now have plenty of ass…just a note..
One word for Russ and his escapades….Eeewwww!
Tue, May 12, 2009 3:32 PM
I agree that the question was jacked up, and set MM up for failure to begin with. Who asks that kind of question and why?
Tue, May 12, 2009 3:32 PM
first of all russell simmons OWNS global grind. this krap is posted so you kids think russy russ has still got it. keep dreamin russ and keep paying those nice ladies. they sure can use the money…
Tue, May 12, 2009 3:33 PM
If Russell did not have the money and fame none of these chicks would be sweating him. he would be some dirty old man they are trying to run from. Matthew is the man! I think he was giving up women of color a compliment for sure. he is one of the few men who actually admits that he finds curvier women attractive!
Tue, May 12, 2009 3:33 PM
black women ON AVERAGE are bigger than white women. this is a fact. aint like he made it up.
problem is that some of you while claiming to love being big dont actually want anyone to point it out even if they think its gorgeous.
are you proud of being a biggun or not? if not then do something about it. otherwise, accept the compliment and stop letting your insecurities show.
unkie russ running around with the boniest whitest chick he could find and yall are ganging up on matthew? please.
Tue, May 12, 2009 3:33 PM
He probably meant it as a compliment but the implication that Black women (in general) are big is obviously not true.
Tue, May 12, 2009 3:34 PM
I think the Cali guy was making an attempt at a compliment…
As for Russy… WOW… Girls.. This man can literally be your DADDY… You both look like gold-diggers in my opinion…
Damn.. this chick is staying in his place while he and his new chick is bangin (viagra happy I’m sure) upstairs… oh but the best part is they came to your (well Russ’s) room before they began to knock the boots and said goodnight and laughed at you…
Yeah… You’re over it… B*tch you MAD…
Tue, May 12, 2009 3:34 PM
Let the church say AMEN! I agree with you 100%!
Tue, May 12, 2009 3:34 PM
i find matthews comment offensive…. the question was who do u feel isnt coverworthy but is still attractive. blacks beez coverworthy too dood
Tue, May 12, 2009 3:34 PM
“babymama”?????????????? This is 2009.
@ Chelly’s Two Cents
“I’ve went from a 12 to a 4 and now I am certified “THICK”.”
Ummm, you must live right smack in the middle of Hollywood where there is a size 00 standard to believe that at a size 4, you would be considered thick in the mind of any brotha. Thick is a size 5, maybe 7…not 0-4 unless you are really petite with a more muscular build. If you are over 5′4″, you are slim.
And I completely agree with “Carib Heritage” about the mathew comment.
Tue, May 12, 2009 3:36 PM
………….and what I mean is “just say no” to stereotypes…where does it end? We all understand cultural differences..but…c’mon…don’t lump an entire group of people into on package…never works…

His girlfriend is not Spanish, the Portuguese speaking people, mixed race, black, white are not Spanish, God learn history. The culture, music and ethos of Brazil is European and African, I have been there and met the people and I know what I am talking about. In her country she is considered mixed-race and they are currently the largest group in Brazil. And I did not find his words offensive, but I suppose it depends on what size you are. President Lula went on a cross-country trip to Africa recently to thank the African people for their cultural and racial contributions to Brazil.
Tue, May 12, 2009 3:38 PM
I agree that we get confused w/ thick vs. Fat… but maybe those aren’t the best examples. these women are quite thin in real life they just have curves. Tyra might be the only one who’s pushin thick. Kim K is actually very petite she just have curves.
Tue, May 12, 2009 3:38 PM
I wouldn’t take offense to his answer; but what seems wierd to me is the question that Elle (the magazine) asked. Who are you attracted to that would not neccessarily be coverworthy? Beauty really is in the eye of the beholder so who’s to say what type of woman SHOULD be on the cover. Half the skinny white girls they put on the cover aren’t “coverworthy”
Tue, May 12, 2009 3:39 PM
Ooooh, I like your thinking!!! LOL. Yes, Yes…my homegirl used to say “LAW” stood for Love.African.Women…
Tue, May 12, 2009 3:39 PM
I saw this a hot mintue ago and I still feel that this was a stupid comment! He clearly said this without thinking! This is like a double standard! He is pretty much saying black woman are attractive b/c of their bodies but they are not cute enough to be on the cover! It is clear that he did not understand the question!
Tue, May 12, 2009 3:41 PM
“Larger package” “Thick” same difference. We always looking for something to be offended about. That is one sexy ass white boy!!!
Tue, May 12, 2009 3:41 PM
Maybe Matt just needs to expand his vocabulary
Tue, May 12, 2009 3:42 PM
My quotes not working.. oh well..
Bubblin you said:
black women ON AVERAGE are bigger than white women. this is a fact. aint like he made it up.
problem is that some of you while claiming to love being big dont actually want anyone to point it out even if they think its gorgeous.
are you proud of being a biggun or not? if not then do something about it. otherwise, accept the compliment and stop letting your insecurities show.
unkie russ running around with the boniest whitest chick he could find and yall are ganging up on matthew? please.
Well…
Can you tell me where you get your facts from? I’m not saying I agree or disagree but I would really like to see the some proof..
On your second point that we as Black women don’t like our weight to be pointed out…
I think that’s false… WOMEN in general don’t care for their weight to be pointed out
On your last point about Uncle Russ running around with the skinniest, white girl he could fine and women getting mad over Mathew’s comments…
I’m with you on that..
Russell is an R. Kelly with rules… Unlike R. Kelly he doesn’t mind dating an 18 year old… at least that’s the lie he and Kimora tell people… He knows damn well he was F’ng Kimora when she was 16 and he was so called “wooing” her.. OH PLEASE…
Tue, May 12, 2009 3:43 PM
i think matt should elaborate a little more.
Tue, May 12, 2009 3:43 PM
AMEN!!!!!
Tue, May 12, 2009 3:45 PM
THE SISTAS HERE WHO FEEL OH SO COMPLIMENTED BY MM’S COMMENTS SEEM TO BE THE SORT THAT ARE STARVING FOR WHITE MEN TO VALIDATE THEIR BEAUTY AND WANT TO BELIEVE THAT THIS COMMENT (HOWEVER TRITE IN IT’S COMPLIMENTARY VALUE) IS THAT VALIDATION. ****WHITE MEN THINK WE’RE PRETTY TOOO!!! YAY!****
Tue, May 12, 2009 3:45 PM
Matthew has dated plenty of black women in the past,i.e. Salli Richardson, Janet Jackson. But he found that black American women have “too much baggage” his words. He has dated all kinds of women but I seriously doubt if he will marry Camilia. He bankrolled her African handbag collection and it failed big time when she didn’t promote it the way she should. Who knows, maybe she is using him for his money.
Tue, May 12, 2009 3:45 PM
First of all…Matthew didn’t mean any harm. I think it just came out wrong…plus he has had numerous relations with many sistas from Sali Richardson to Janet Jackson. He is basically saying that black women got azz. I really don’t think he is talking about plus size black women AT ALL. Just those that are in shape with a phatty lol.
Tue, May 12, 2009 3:47 PM
Jesus… help some of these simple minded people!!! He is simply implying we are not perceived to be cover worthy but are!!! We carry the weight “package” very well!!! I am pro black and there is no issue with his comment. Dont start no stuff wont be no stuff!!!!
Tue, May 12, 2009 3:48 PM
Sunshine made an excellent point regarding the question that Mathew was asked… His statment would seem that he’s implying that we as black women are not cover worthy… but I honestly don’t think that’s what he’s really attempting to say…
The industry does not view black women as cover worthy… and that’s a fact… Very few make covers of magazines unless they are chart topping artists… award winning actresses (very few get nominated even though they DESERVE to be nominated for awards), or African or African looking with bright colored make-up, models who have been in the game for long periods of time and scratched tooth and nail to be accepted etc.
It’s sad and sinful… but it happens… and I think that’s more to what he was attempting to say.. He’s such a free spirit that I just don’t want to believe he realized how he was answering that question but his answer seems like he lost his train of thought…
Tue, May 12, 2009 3:48 PM
I understand what Matt is trying to say and I do not think he meant any disrespect. I think the point he was trying to make is not that black women are not coverworthy because they certainly are but that the black women he has seen while beautiful would probably never make it on to the cover of Vougue because they are not a size 0 and have a little more meat on their bones. People like Beyonce and J.Lo are considered curvy because they do not look anorexic.
Tue, May 12, 2009 3:48 PM
see yall trippin to hard over this comment… not cover worthy… yall heffas need to stop frontin anyone who is not a 4 and under and of anglo european decent… then they would not quail to be cover worthy…( this doesnt include our mags like king, jet ebony) ladies like tyra [fo' head wide arse] and bey [wide arse] and shanti[ do i need to go there?].. oprah [again do i need to go there] selma hyack [i read somewhere that she is proud of bein a bigger gurl and she has recieved some flack about that] and even new lady O[bama][ she is so sophisticated and a very hadsome woman, but still...] would fall into that not good enough cat. as well…the only reason why they to make main stream covers is because of popularity[ bey hot she on everything, ashanti not so popular anymore u will only find her in a king spread]<— i think they call that a token ya kno its keeps them type mags hip and in tha loop… i get ok mag and a few other “white girl” mags they are not geared for us they dont feature products or articles that pertain to us and matt in his way was callin them out on that… its nothin knew ppl they dont like us they just tollerate us [ white media that is]
Tue, May 12, 2009 3:50 PM
Oh my quotes working again (go figure)…
LOL… I KNOW RIGHT.. lol
Tue, May 12, 2009 3:51 PM
He said that big women are beautiful and attractive but these are not the types of women who would be worthy to be seen on magazines and that is the truth considering American standards. There are plenty of black women with white guys, many of them are rich white guys see: blackgirlsrockit.com
Tue, May 12, 2009 3:52 PM
Umm…am I the only one who doesn’t know wtf this chick, Katie, is talking about?!?! “Blah Blah meets Blah Blah moment”…what?!?!?!?
Tue, May 12, 2009 3:53 PM
countraaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyy!
Tue, May 12, 2009 3:56 PM
There IS not enough to drink or Puff, that would make me say (slurred speech and all) Yes Russee! NO WAY! EWWWW! Sean Connery and Matty, Matty They can get IT!!
Tue, May 12, 2009 3:58 PM
now this ish I took offense to when I read it. we all know he probably ain’t no damn hillbilly racist , BUT he shouldn’t have said this back handed compliment, it was like what so many of us hear at different times…”your cute for a black girl” or “I would never have thought I’d like a black girl, but your different” wtf? Go ‘head with that B.S
Tue, May 12, 2009 3:59 PM
This ish is old and anyone who takes offense is too damn sensitive. I’m tall and skinny and I didn’t see the harm in his comments, I know exactly what he means. You will never find big women of any color on the cover of major magazines. Women won’t buy them because people in this country hate big, thick, fat people.
Tue, May 12, 2009 4:01 PM
They don’t actually see him, they see his bank account$$$$.
Tue, May 12, 2009 4:03 PM
I am not offended by Matthew’s comments. I take it as a compliment! And Russell…Seriously though I LOVE this dude (not sexually). I LOVE how he has no problems cursing someone out or telling someone the truth. I love him because of what he’s accomplished and what he continues to do. I love how dude has been known to come out of a yoga class and then slap a dude in the face with a veggie wrap.
But Katie should move out…why is she still there? And you know what…Julie (yt girl) really needs to slow her role. She thinks that she is forever and that’s not the case. It seems like she has a problem with Katie being there…but umm bitch you pay no bills and if uncle russie is ok with it then you should be too. I bet you the yt chick will be replaced in 6 months.
Tue, May 12, 2009 4:05 PM
No. She must have accidently sniff some of that mud mask.
Tue, May 12, 2009 4:07 PM
I totally agree. We don’t know what the question was before this question but I knew people were going to focus on the “unworthy” part and ignore everything else he said. He was saying because how they work it and look good in what they are wearing, these women don’t get noticed on the cover of magazines. According to the industry (in which he works) we are not worthy. That’s what the big blublah was about when Vogue? (was it?) did an entire magazine on black women. We are not recognize for the many things we have contributed to this world.
Tue, May 12, 2009 4:07 PM
Um Brazilians are Black and his baby momma is from Brazil. In other words his coments are a non issue.
Tue, May 12, 2009 4:08 PM
LMAO you telling the truth though!
Tue, May 12, 2009 4:13 PM
Some white people are just REALLY ignorant & annoying with their comments. Compliment or not, he should know how to articulate himself better when talking about another race; period.
Tue, May 12, 2009 4:16 PM
I should find a way to say that I think alot of white people have a wet dog odor. Maybe I should dress up the comment real good, so white people can give me a PASS & not get offended..lol
Tue, May 12, 2009 4:18 PM
Wow, Ugly dudes are getting it in this year aren’t they? First little Wayne, now Uncle Russ….lol
I wonder who’s next..
Tue, May 12, 2009 4:19 PM
RIGHT!! I DONT SEE NOTHING NEGATIVE… THATS THE YBF FOR YOU
Tue, May 12, 2009 4:27 PM
Oh, lord. It was just a case of verbal vomit. Don’t jump all over the man! He didn’t mean anything bad by it and let’s be honest, how many stereotypical things about white people do black people make all the time off the fly? And he was right. The average beautiful, voluptuous black girl that you could find in any video who isn’t Beyonce is NOT gonna’ make it on the cover of mainstream magazines. She’s not a stereotypical beauty in mainstream American culture but that doesn’t mean she can’t be proud of what she’s working with or flaunt it. That’s all he meant (even though he put it inadequately.) And not only is his wife Brazillian but he’s dated Salli Richardson who IS a black woman so he’s done his research. LOL
Tue, May 12, 2009 4:27 PM
Tue, May 12, 2009 4:32 PM
Their is nothing wrong with Matthew’s comment. He just means their should be more black women on magazine covers but because a lot of us are built differently we’re overlooked but regardless we know what we have and how to work and won’t let the media play us!
I love Matt and all the other sexy white boys. People stop getting mad about everything
Tue, May 12, 2009 4:36 PM
Beyonce was thick and is no longer, and Kim k is thin with a booty. Thick is trina and toccra.
Tue, May 12, 2009 4:40 PM
if you are confident in your weight then why not have it pointed out?
as for the stats, unfortunately we cant link sites on here but if you will google the body fat distribution of black vs white women you will read several articles that note there is an inherent difference in the way body fat is carried and distributed by black women.
our lips are fuller–on average
our hips are wider–on average
our butts are bigger–on average
all of these attribute to a higher weight on the scale. 150 on us looks and feels different than on them.
its not an insult its just nature.
you can also ask your own doctor to do a BMI test on you and he or she will show you on paper where your fat is as opposed to where the “national average” (which means white) is.
an average black woman does have more body fat than the average white woman. that IS a fact.
also google hottentot to see where the origin of “thick” comes from with regard to black woman.
ie. we look at oprah and say thick. rosie odonnell is probably the same weight in numbers but to us she looks fat because white womens bodies dont hold size the same way ours does.
Tue, May 12, 2009 4:40 PM
Considering that whyte people consider a size 10 fat. Maybe thats why he got thick and fat missed up,…..i’m just sayin…… Have y’all see their plus size model….like that gurl that one top model….she look normal to me, but to them, she was plus size.
Tue, May 12, 2009 4:43 PM
Not all Brazilians are black so please stop saying that. Half of the population are of biracial(African/European) ancestry and the other half are not. They have a growing Asian population in Brazil as well, mostly from Japan. They also have Arabs. All the whites in Brazil are descendants of Europeans who came there mostly in the last century. Matthew’s girlfriend is a mulatto and named her handbag collection after an African deity. Anyone who thinks his comments were insulting needs their heads examined. What Young Berg said was insulting, not Matthew.
Tue, May 12, 2009 4:51 PM
you aint neva lied. also this idea that Black women are naturally bigger is ridiculous. white women are from an early age are exposed to images that tell them thinner is better, we Black are not. white girls have curves but they are encouraged by magazines and television to diet them away.
Tue, May 12, 2009 4:54 PM
Matt loves the sistas. He’s dated more black women than you know. No harm. No Foul.
Tue, May 12, 2009 4:58 PM
Just visited blackgirlsrockit.com thanks for the knowledge. There is a picture of smiling faced Matt with his girl at the time, Salli Richardson.
Tue, May 12, 2009 5:08 PM
I did not take offense to Matthew McConaughey’s comments, I believe the interviewer could have rephrased it the question a lot better than she did, and I believe Mr. McConaughey could have worded his response better, I would have liked it if Natasha would have posted the entire interview and not just this small snippet of the interview,
BTW – Serena Williams is thick, Tyra Banks is thick, Kim K. & Beyonce are curvaceous, I use to think that Beyonce was thick also, until I saw her up close, she has curves but she’s a lot smaller in person, the “I Like The Way You Move” chick is thick, What I mean by thick is what the Commedores meant by ” Brick House” “Ladies stacked and that’s a fact, ain’t holding nothing back…”
Tue, May 12, 2009 5:24 PM
I think it was a insult to black women, he is clearly saying black women is good eye candy but not good enough to be on his arm on the red carpet.
Tue, May 12, 2009 5:28 PM
With all due respect, im starting to understand why some black men go so hard at some black women. People cant even give us a compliment without some women complaining. I think what Mathew was trying to say is that the black womans confident swagger is like none other. He was basically trying to compliment black women. My goodness, SMH
Tue, May 12, 2009 5:31 PM
see the 2ladies above me get it… like look at alek welk chick been in tha game for ever and she dont as nearly as much media time as the rest… cuz some of these girls that they call “fab” look weird yeah they dress cute and the hair b on point but they still funny lookin… like chanel iman has a big head and her roots b nappy…. but she doin her thing in the fashion world….
Tue, May 12, 2009 5:34 PM
Eww at Russell. I don’t care how much money he is and he’s old gross!
I don’t think Matthew was being insulting in anyway. that’s why he said not specifcally. And I don’t think he means we are not cover worthy either. The fact of the matter is we are still not represented that much on major publications, that’s why Mags like King etc still exist. So we are not seen there ( and neither are thicker white girls for that matter) but that doesn’t mean we don’t belong there. And as our white counterparts may feel self-conscious about their curves we are most often happy in the skin we’re in. I think that’s where he was going with that.
Tue, May 12, 2009 5:42 PM
UGH—agreed!
Tue, May 12, 2009 6:09 PM
Hello idiots.. this is not about whether he likes thick women or not. the question is who are you attracted to that is NOT COVERWORTHY, and he said black women. PERIOD. get offended.
Tue, May 12, 2009 6:12 PM
why are you guys asking what these young hot women see in russel simmons…let me make this clear: HIS MONEY AND HIS YOGA STRETCHED D–K…stop playing dumb….
Tue, May 12, 2009 6:14 PM
Something has always been creepy about Russell to me. I’m glad Kimora moved on.
Tue, May 12, 2009 6:19 PM
I agree with the style and beauty doctor…the big difference between a black men’s opinion of black women and a white man’s opinion about a black women is that black women do not need to validate themselves to white men…white men see what they like and if a black woman is interested, he turns her into his queen….black women have to work to hard to be validated by a black man and sometimes, it is just not worth it and that’s real….
Tue, May 12, 2009 6:27 PM
I believe Matt is answering the question. Who does the white media over look? Black woman who may have extra meat on their bones but look good. I don’t see how that could be seen as offensive.
Tue, May 12, 2009 6:30 PM
Oh and Matt could get it all day!!!!
Tue, May 12, 2009 6:32 PM
Whateva to all that women that have taken offense. Matthew can GET IT! I have watched that man over the years a & every women he’s been with has something “brown related” about them. Meaning naturally brown complextion, dark hair etc something ethnic. that man hasn’t said nothing offensive-find something else to complain about.
Tue, May 12, 2009 6:35 PM
I don’t see how this is offensive. He is just saying he finds black women attractive and loves how even our plus size women can pull it off and still have confidence and be sexy. I see how some people are getting it wrong but read it again. He answered the question not really but he does find that black women aren’t really on a lot of covers. And let’s be honest…when was the last you have seen a black plus sized woman on a cover of a magazine besides Monique…even she has not been on high fashion magazines, just black ones. I think he did a great job and I love the fact he dates women of all races. I got the chance to actually see him at a Tech v UT game…his hott self walked right by my stands!!!
Tue, May 12, 2009 6:40 PM
I think it was a compliment… and I think Matthew is a real cute white boy… take that how you want to… :)
Tue, May 12, 2009 6:41 PM
Matt McConaghy can GET IT 8 DAYS A WEEK!
Tue, May 12, 2009 6:46 PM
I don’t find it offensive at all….”She might be a larger package, but boy, she sure understands how she’s wrapped” tell me one big white famous woman who “understands how she’s wrapped”! and embraces that!
Tue, May 12, 2009 6:49 PM
failed compliment . He needs to think out his words better, the overal sentiments were with good intentions but they way he worded it was fcked up . The generlizations and the exotification came out for me . But it`s true, more black women are needed on the covers `cause they`re beauty..our beauty.. is undeniable ! fck anyone who tells you differently .
Tue, May 12, 2009 6:52 PM
I 125% agree…..just creepy! Smart as hell and does the damn thing WELL! But, I still feel like he might have some creepazoid in him though!
Tue, May 12, 2009 6:53 PM
whatb is Russell doing to these women?
Matt C is not trying to be offensive-he’s speaking the truth
Tue, May 12, 2009 6:57 PM
I have talked to white guys before and I think he was talking about thickness. The white guys I have talked to say they are not used to the thickness of the butt and so on (regardless of size cuz even the smallest of sistas have a roundness the white women dont).I think what he was trying to say is that in the industry a certain body type and shape are acceptable. If Beyonce was not a singer, she would not be on the front of any magazine…she would be considered too big.
Tue, May 12, 2009 7:30 PM
i don’t think matt meant any harm. the way it was worded may have been a bit confusing, but he meant that black girls are thick and sexy, and because of that, since the standard of beauty is a thin white woman, black girls are left out and are never on magazine covers. i could see why someone would get offended, though.
Tue, May 12, 2009 7:30 PM
Again, You feel his comment is OK because you think he’s cute and hope this translates into him thinking you’re cute too. Dizzy ass broads. He may think you’re kinda cute in that sexy get down on all your black girl fours way…but he recognizes that YOU ARE NOT “COVERWORTHY”. The question was not “who do you think doesn’t get enough shine on mainstream mag covers”. It was who do you think is cute but not fly enough for elle magazine. Either he’s dumb or You are.
Tue, May 12, 2009 7:43 PM
Agreed! First of all the question made no sense. It was phrased terribly. But I get what Matt was trying to say. I don’t get how people are making his statement something negative. Instead of being mad at Matt who is just being honest, why not complain about the magazines who don’t think we are marketable!
Tue, May 12, 2009 7:53 PM
Sunshine…
Black women are “worthy, righteous”…yes, BUT “…the most FAVORABLE race of woman on this earth” REALLY??
LOL
Beauty comes in ALL races, colors and shades in between.Don’t be so biased.
Tue, May 12, 2009 7:55 PM
Matthew can definitely get it!
Tue, May 12, 2009 7:59 PM
Let’s not attack Matt for what he said. Let’s blame Elle for the question that was asked- that was wrong of them in the first place. “Any woman you can think of who might not be coverworthy, but whom you find attractive?” How can you answer that and it not sound wrong? They set him up to sound bad. The question basically to me says “who is unworthy of being admired?” I think the answer he gave was a compliment to strong black women everywhere. He said we have a swagger about us that we’re proud of. Nothing wrong with that ladies!
Tue, May 12, 2009 8:06 PM
To whoever stated that…
“White people smell like wet dogs” WTF? Why so much hate??You’re so ignorant in respect to race and stereotypes its hilarious.LOL
Tue, May 12, 2009 8:12 PM
“not be coverworthy” was part of the question. He should have said no. So he thinks black women are not coverworthy? But good enough to look at? Boo! to who asked the question and boo! to him for answering.
Tue, May 12, 2009 8:16 PM
Not sure if I’m being redundant here because I did not read through all of the comments.. But Matthew was asked what type of woman does he find attractive who may not generally be found on the cover of magazines. The question he was asked needs to be looked at in the context of the overall interview. The interviewer was the one who used a poor phrase “not coverworthy”… In any case, Matthew’s response was that he is attractive to black women but they are generally not found on the cover of magazine’s (which is true and a conversation black america has had 100 billion times).. The next part of his answer was the ‘explanation’ – because they tend to be ‘larger’… Yeah here I think he meant to say “thick” (side note: heaven knows white women STAY having plastic surgery to try and have features like black women)…. All in all- no I don’t think the man is – or meant to be- racist or offensive.
Tue, May 12, 2009 8:20 PM
I dunno, but I know one thing I love me some Matt McConaughey….ooOOOh YES!
Tue, May 12, 2009 8:24 PM
larger package… understands how she’s wrapped…. I’d go spread eagle for him if he said that to me!!!
Tue, May 12, 2009 8:57 PM
not cover worthy?
how is what he said a compliment?
doesn’t take much to please some.
Tue, May 12, 2009 8:58 PM
Mathew wants to unwrap the package!:) The white man compliments us and the Black Man does not. 9?) Ain’t no white man ever called me a byatch- but a Black Man has. Go figure.
Tue, May 12, 2009 9:05 PM
he is a hill billy for pete’s sake who cares what he thinks anyway? i mean i have nothing against him hell i think he is mad cute but who cares what his thoughts are on Black women?
i wonder why he even went there in the 1st place,
Tue, May 12, 2009 9:07 PM
I was not offended by what he said at all. When is says bigger he means that black women tend to be thicker than white women. He didn’t mean we are fat. Go ahead Matthew you are sexy.
Tue, May 12, 2009 9:10 PM
Matt is keeping it real and being diplomatic. Black women regardless of weight and sometimes it’s A LOT of weight (big thighs, big butt, big gut, and big breasts) and instead of hiding they are like “BAM- here I am look at me” which can be interpreted as confindence which is where Matthew (He’s sooo Fine!) was coming from. There are some black women who need to quit, like yesterday, but he’s not talking about them.
Tue, May 12, 2009 9:11 PM
I knew it! I knew it!!! I could tell Matt likes the sistas, y’all can take it the wrong way, sounds like to me he likes what he sees, but is scared to try for it, face it, you don’t see too many sistas with white men on their arms, and I’ve met a lot of them who want to try that route, and that’s on both parts. I ain’t afraid to, but I am afraid I’ll go off on some racist ass grandparents who slip with the N word, and then be featured on SNAPPED,LOL!, but yeah lots of them want sistas but their game is weak, and their fear is very strong!!!
Tue, May 12, 2009 9:13 PM
WTF. Women really fighting over this old DEPENDS wearing, viagra taking has been? The recession really got some women doing some of the craziest things because I thought old Russ was still on life support. SMFH
Tue, May 12, 2009 9:21 PM
All this post showed me was that a lot of black women have reading comprehension skills. He did NOT say Black women weren’t cover worthy he said FAT women were not cover worthy and that he sees more attractive fat Black women who he finds sexy. The reality is FAT girls don’t get fashion covers. There isn’t a damn thing wrong with his statement beause as a bigger girl even I am not checking for the plus sized model on the cover. Shoot most clothes they selling these days look better on the damn tall and skinny models they made them for.
Tue, May 12, 2009 9:21 PM
I dont think MM had to say was bad at all.. all black women call ourselfs diff things… some like to be called thick some like to be healthy… nothing is wrong with what he said… dont look at his race when read the comment… he didnt mean it bad at all…
Tue, May 12, 2009 9:22 PM
Blame Elle cuz they were tryna be slick with the way they asked the question, bunch of racists!! Matt didn’t say anything wrong it sounded wrong because of the way the question was asked.
Tue, May 12, 2009 9:23 PM
correction*** don’t* have reading comprehension skills
Tue, May 12, 2009 9:24 PM
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Deepak Chopra…
Tue, May 12, 2009 10:10 PM
Uncle Russ looks like a Buddha!! LOL
Oncle Russ ressemble a un Buddha!!
Tue, May 12, 2009 10:12 PM
Lets just tell it like it is…. Julie isn’t hot at all. Regardless of race the other girl is much much prettier. Julie looks plain…
Tue, May 12, 2009 10:25 PM
Katie wasted too much time writing that.I think she was trying to imply her relationship with the old sugar daddy in her last line when she stated,”Ahhh, sharing and giving back, that’s always a good place to start…” And Matthew’s comment is nothing but a compliment. I mean what do yall think black men are thinking, they think the same thing they just use the word thick in place of larger package. And hell yall need to admit it, compared to women of other ethnicities we do have the greater number of larger packages. We have larger breast, larger ass, larger thighs, and larger egos. But as Matt stated we know how to carry it well, we wrap ourselves well. So I take that as a complement. Nothing more and nothing less.
Tue, May 12, 2009 10:28 PM
Brazillians are black look it up
Tue, May 12, 2009 11:28 PM
RUSSELL IS GRANDPA KICKING IT WITH TEENS BECAUSE OF HIS BANK ACCOUNT ( IT’S SO USUAL!) AND I DON’T CARE ABOUT MATTHEW HE’S FAKE AND LOOK LIKE BARBIE`S BOYFRIEND
Tue, May 12, 2009 11:39 PM
i dont think he was bein offensive…just tryin 2 say he loves how black women carry themselves no matter what shape/size even if others try to look down on them or diss them…dang ppl takin it all kinds of wrong ways! p.s. i always loved his sexy butt lol
Tue, May 12, 2009 11:48 PM
Did y’all forget that the question asked who MAY NOT be coverworthy? He’s saying black women aren’t. He also said we wear our clothes tight and think we look good. He appreciates our confidence although he doesn’t completely agree that we look good. And for that, I say STFU Matt.
Tue, May 12, 2009 11:55 PM
First of all he didn’t say thick or fat or anything about weight…I think by package, he was talking about the curves black women are known to have (ie. asss, hips, thighs, etc…) but I still don’t take his statement as a compliment. What I understood it to mean was that they should depict more Black women wearing “snug” clothing showing the way they carry their asses so well…as if we don’t have enough of those kind of women in the media. But I will give him the benefit of the doubt and read the rest of the article and not jump to conclusions. But I think the fact that the mother of his child is Black does not take the offensiveness of his statement away.
Russ is old as dirt and these women just slightly older than me going for him is making me nauseous!
Wed, May 13, 2009 12:03 AM
that’s sweet matthew, thanks!
Wed, May 13, 2009 12:29 AM
i dont know what the hell that white boy is talkin bout so i can take it as a compliment or offensively!
Wed, May 13, 2009 12:34 AM
HINT: “NOT COVERWORTHY” WHAT TYPE OF ISH IS THAT!
Wed, May 13, 2009 12:40 AM
The funny thing is, Matt is talking about these larger Black women, he probably wouldnt put his gf in that category, even though I originally thought she was a Black Latina.
But, whatever I dont think he meant any harm. The only thing is, not all Black women come in these bigger sizes; especially the ones that Hollywood chooses to portray (i.e. Zoe Saldana who is like the only young hot hollywood rep. for black women (coincidentally also Latina)}.
As for Russell, somethings just weird for me with a man of his age traipsing with young girls, joiking about if they have a man in the bed…something just icky there.
However, I like the girls article.
Wed, May 13, 2009 12:41 AM
matts babymama is black so he clearly likey!!
Wed, May 13, 2009 12:57 AM
bey is a 4. KK is a 4. Tyra is a 4/6. If I’m not a 4, I’m fat?! GTFOH.
i think what MM said was a clear compliment.
Wed, May 13, 2009 1:01 AM
Wasn’t matt mcconaughey with janet jackson years ago?
Wed, May 13, 2009 1:02 AM
people can be so ignorant. i take offense. he said BLACK woment arent COVERWORTHY. point blank. now, he did say he finds us attractive, but in one of those “cute..for a black girl” type of deals. i take offense to that. now do i think hes racist? no. but i still dont like what he said.
Wed, May 13, 2009 1:09 AM
how the hell is it a compliment if he is responding that black women aren’t cover worthy, just cause a white man doesn’t mind fuckin a black woman doesn’t mean that he appreciates and respects her as that which he clearly doesn’t!!!
Wed, May 13, 2009 1:15 AM
If you pay attention you learn that there must be an unwritten rule somewhere that states that if your a mainstream magazine you must psychologically perpetuate the existence of the majority race by employing models that are from this race.In this spirit, these mags are going to make sure that these caucasian models will get paid first (even if no one else will). If we want our models (black) to work and have the same economic oppurtunities, we need to get our mags subscriptions up to the same levels as these mainstream mags.
Wed, May 13, 2009 1:30 AM
This mag knew already that Matt likes black women, so they are not going to let this man insinuate that their (white) women are undesirable; hell the interviewer is probably a white woman who knows black women’s beauty is unparalleled but will never admit it to anyone. So the mag pays it’s people good money to think (and I do mean think) of questions that would give black women a compliment in an “off-handed” way. Note the mag stated “uncoverworthy” not matt, he just answered this “oddly” worded question. The word uncoverworthy changes the question completely so no matter who he stated, it would not be a savory answer. This mag was well aware of matts love of black women so they anticipated this answer. If you pay attention this is how white people are in general, always approach certain situations as a game of chess.
Wed, May 13, 2009 2:57 AM
I don’t find Matthew’s comment racist or offensive.
I don’t think all Republicans are evil.
I don’t think everyone who disagree with the President is racist.
I don’t like the direction this country is going in and I blame everyone in Washington for it.
I don’t think Beyonce is all that talented.
In conclusion, I am in the minority when it comes to my opinions but it doesn’t matter. At the end of the day, the only opinion that really matters is my own. Live by that rule and we all will be better off.
Wed, May 13, 2009 5:48 AM
i don’t think what he said is a compliment but i don’t take offense to it. what the hell is going on wid blk women from the states. fix up ur disgracing the rest of us. matthew was wrong for that though
Wed, May 13, 2009 7:36 AM
Matthew was trying to compliment black women. He just didn’t express it eloquently. He was basically saying larger women, especially black women, are cover worthy because men like curves and women who know how to use them.
Katie is disturbed and a fucking idiot. Both of these women are using their relationships with Russell Simmons to advance their careers. He knows it too because he doesn’t have respect for them as well.
Katie is still “friends” with Russell and is staying in his house (for free)? Why does she want to be alone in a three-way? Why is Julie allowing this?
This proves these women are letting Russell use them for his pleasure and they are hoping to take advantage of the benefits from all of the exposure. These women have absolutely no self-esteem or talent. It’s apparent when you read between the lines of Katie’s blog that this chick is getting old and realizes her “career” is over. She can’t handle it and the fact she should have moved on from Russell. He even thinks she’s a joke and pathetic.
She even mentioned Julie is “cute for a white girl.” WTF is wrong with you, Sista? Get the fuck out of Russell’s house, get on with your life and go find yourself your own man! Go get an education, you dummy! You just made yourself look like a used up Hollywood skank who is full of hate because your career never took off after you slept with every millionaire executive and producer. How symbolic that you are alone with mud on your face while everyone else is out living their lives.
That “white” girl will never challenge Russell and will eventually take over that household by playing it cool. If she is really devious, she will get knocked up with Russell’s baby. She will make sure that you will eventually get kicked out of the house and out of his life.
Katie, you are a screwed up woman. Get it together NOW!
Wed, May 13, 2009 8:58 AM
I wouldn’t be offended by Matt’s comments…he just didn’t know how to say what wanted to say. I think it’s funny because he makes it seem like we are just getting into dressing up and wearing form fitting clothes, like it’s new for black women to look good. I think he’s just now opening his eyes, that’s all.
Wed, May 13, 2009 9:38 AM
I doesn’t seem like he was answering the question. I think they chopped up that interview and made it seem that was his answer to that particluar question….can’t trust the media, especially magazines.
Its not offensive what he said, they are just ill-informing us.
Wed, May 13, 2009 10:01 AM
I hate the I have to scroll thru all of these comments just to say:
Some of yall bishes is stupid as phuck!!!!
“Thick” is a hood term btw used by people of color. Dont expect a white man to pick up the word just to sooth your feelings. Also, some of you fat bishes is way past thick and still like to use the word so ummmm. Ur only offense should be taken with the scale and them tight ass jeans with ur rolls popp’n out
Wed, May 13, 2009 10:09 AM
NO that ish he said was NOT a compliment and people need to just either open their ears/eyes or re-read the question they asked him- he is saying that black WOMEN are not coverworthy. That is disrespectful and someone as in our BLACK WOMEN CELEBS needs to speak up on about this.
Wed, May 13, 2009 10:10 AM
Re: Matthew M., there’s nothing to be offended about. It’s his opinion. I believe he was being complimentary. Black people have complained for decades about being invisible, not even a consideration. If you want the shine, you have to take all that comes along with it. People will talk and comment. You may not like everything said, but at least you were mentioned…and NOT in a derogatory manner. There is such a thing as “too sensitive.”
Wed, May 13, 2009 10:12 AM
totally a comment!
Wed, May 13, 2009 10:38 AM
THANK YOU. Cuz I def know some chicks who are size 6 and up who are all booty and boobs. And no one would look at then and say “fat”.
Wed, May 13, 2009 10:40 AM
Uuuh…everybody is so racist! She’s cute for a white girl? That’s not nice. Russ is a perv anyways he isn’t even worth the drama. But if ya wanna go there with cute for white…Matt’s cute. But that statement is a hot mess. He has one idea of what black women are/look like and that’s sad.
Wed, May 13, 2009 10:42 AM
…. errr them**
Wed, May 13, 2009 11:09 AM
I don’t understand why Katie is in Russell’s house either. She can definitely afford to have her own place or rent a spot. She obviously still wants Russ and the perks that come with him. Otherwise, she wouldn’t blog about him. Neither of these ladies would date him if he wasn’t worth all those millions. Let’s get real. I am a bit surprise that none of his girlfriends have gotten pregnant either. (hmmm vasectomy maybe).
Wed, May 13, 2009 11:20 AM
What’s the name of that song that Madonna sings in the Evita movie. Not the “Dont cry for me Argentina” but the other song where she was singing to that woman that it was over for her and to get out b/c she was the new woman in her man’s house. That song reminds me of what Russ’ new chick would be singing to his old chick…and then in about six months, Russ’ new chick will be singing this same song to his now old chick. Kimora knows; girl school ‘em.
Wed, May 13, 2009 11:44 AM
The interviewer asked him who he thought “might” not be coverworthy, but that he is still attracted to…For him to point out black women to me shows that he goes with the norm as far as what he’s used to seeing ON the covers, thus how he developed his idea of WHO should be on a cover of a magazine, but the simple fact that he stated he is attracted to black women (thick or plus size) it doesn’t matter because he said “larger package”, STILL means we are ATTRACTIVE to him…think about the women you see on covers, they are thin, airbrushed and their breasts are what is HIGHLIGHTED, he specifically stated that we black women “understand how we are wrapped” which clearly means he recognizes and appreciates the way we carry ourselves altogether. I personally think his statement was a compliment, but not necessarily worded correctly.
Wed, May 13, 2009 12:20 PM
Tyra was a 6/8 at the end of her modeling career, and she is more like a 10/12 now. She carries it very well because of her height.
Beyonce fluctuates between a 4 and an 8…she’s usually at the size 8 until touring time…
I highly doubt that KK is a 4…just that fake ass alone would put her closer to a 6…and I referring to the non-airbrushed KK…lmao
I think its all about proporations…but I am sorry…if you are 5′7 and under wearing a size 12 and up…you are fat…
Wed, May 13, 2009 1:41 PM
See, if he said that comment randomly and alone…there’d be no problem. BUT he said that in response to a “who is not coverworthy but still attractive” question. WE are coverworthy! All of our shapes and sizes are coverworthy..this dominant society needs to get with it. It’s sad Matt…ud love to F*ck us but wuldnt like to see us on the cover of COSMO. ridic.
Wed, May 13, 2009 3:21 PM
I just wanted to say that he obviously was giving us a compliment and i loved it. that made my day. i dont care what type of woman he prefers rather she be black, white, asian and so on and so forth just the fact that he noticed the woman/women that he referenced and she happend to be black felt great. at the end of the day women are women yes, ladies we are all the same. my ex who was African told me that he had been with every type of ethnicity known to man and at the end of the day all women have the same fears, doubts, insecurities and etc. So Matt i could care less that you happen to be white, you are a sexy man. keep putting that positive energy out there.
Wed, May 13, 2009 4:48 PM
I was wondering if anyone else caught how that damn question was WORDED!! “NOT COVERWORTHY”??!!…WWWUUUUU.. PISSES ME OFF!!
Wed, May 13, 2009 6:19 PM
I AM SOOO NOT OFFENDED!
PEOPLE ARE SOOOOO SENSITIVE. IN THE FASHION INDUSTRY AND ON MOST MAGAZINE COVERS IT IS HARD TO FIND BLACK, ASIAN OR INDIAN WOMEN. MOSTLY WHITE WOMEN ARE DISPLAYED. SO THE JOURNALIST SHOULD HAVE EXPLAINED MORE OF WHAT SHE MEANT BY COVER WORTHY. I MYSELF WOULD HAVE TAKEN THE ANSWER IN THE SAME FASHION, I.E WHICH WOMEN RARELY ARE ON COVERS OF MAGAZINES OR ARE LEAST POPULAR. UNLESS ITS AN UBER FAMOUS R&B SINGER, BLACK WOMEN ARE FINDING IT HARD TO GRACE THE COVERS OF MANY MAGS. WORD.
Wed, May 13, 2009 7:39 PM
black women make me sick (and i’m black) … everything is NOT secret dis, DAMN… it’s like–every f*cking white person who attempts to say a GOOD thing get bashed… damn, chill out! Brad Pitt says he likes Carol’s Daughter and sends the sales on a boost and all some women can focus on is that he said “black people hair” WTF do you expect… he didn’t take “how to please black people 101″ and when they make that class in school–let me know so I can take it too. He was obviously giving a compliment to women with a larger package–no, he didn’t say fat, he didn’t say anything derogatory–he was actually speaking on the confidence of women such as Monique who love their looks and aren’t trying to be someone else and how attractive that confidence is. Ugh. You people (yes I said YOU PEOPLE) make me sick to my stomach. You are everything that IS wrong with our race.
Wed, May 13, 2009 7:48 PM
i swear i love this site til i read all the “ig’nant” comments
i’m going to get an “i hate dumb people” shirt
Wed, May 13, 2009 9:32 PM
The whole Russell thing is disgusting and he needs to stop! He is too old to be chasing those young girls and they need to stop giving it to him. As for Matthew…he was not being offensive. People are just looking for something to find offensive because he is white. His girlfriend is ethnic (Brazilian) and he was giving Black women a compliment, regardless of the fact that he did not know the “terms” used. Matt is a nice guy and he is not malicious get off his back and stop always looking for something to critique…
Wed, May 13, 2009 11:07 PM
Um yeah Im offended, but i would still do him in many unsavory ways that are prolly illegal in most states.
Thu, May 14, 2009 8:36 AM
he is fine and what he said is not offensive to me. he may have been trying to say that we are thicker, curvier, and bigger than these skinny annorexic white girls. he is simply saying he likes thickness in his own country twangy sexy voice. you all know he dont mean no harm. he is always polite.
Thu, May 14, 2009 10:19 AM
Who cares what that pink di*k Mothafucca has to say. It is his opinion, he is entitled to that.
Thu, May 14, 2009 10:25 AM
Oh, I almost forgot Russell Simmons is UGLY than a mothafucca!
If he did’nt have money….He would be the avaraged busted up necca. So, who cares……..
Thu, May 14, 2009 10:53 AM
I think what Matthew was trying to say is by some people’s standards we may not be cover-worthy because many of us are not “fashion model size” aka stick thin. He is not saying that we do not deserve it but basically that our society does not award it to us—and most of the time, they don’t. Hell, thick or hella thin (big ups to Italian Vogue), its hard for a sista to get a cover on a magazine not catering to blacks. You may be a shoe in for essence etc but past that there are NO guarantees. So he is saying that we have curves and despite what society says—we are beautiful and if society isn’t feelin us, then he most definitely is… But On Our Side or Not— I Don’t Give A DANG— WE MOST DeF R COVErWoRthY!!!! Get It Black!!!
Thu, May 14, 2009 11:53 AM
You are complaining about comprehension skills, but I think YOU LACK ANALYTICAL SKILLS. Comprehending is one thing, but learning to analyse and infer to take a stance or position is quite important.
COME AGAIN MY DEAR!
Thu, May 14, 2009 8:09 PM
Hmmm ok heres my take….I am an avid Mathew lover and what stood out most to me was the question its self! Who does he feel is NOT cover worthy! Hello I said the sistahs, im giving that a huge hell no! We are cover worthy and not all of us are dressed with tight clothes on. I feel like that overall stereotype was alarming. Women in general come in all sizes and dress all types of ways. I personally dont think that we (as in black women, i am a black woman)are all larger. I have to say i didnt appreciate nor see the humor in it. In his eyes we standout he doesnt look at us as just women but as black, full figured, sassy dressed, attitude walking women. Im gonna have to say i dont like it and 9 out of 10 he doesnt see that baby momma of his as ethnic as she really is. :-/
Thu, May 14, 2009 11:50 PM
Why exactly is she taking up residence in Russell’s home? How low is this broad’s self-esteem? And she’s a certified banger! Come on, chick! Take that decade old modeling dough and purchase a home of your own! How humiliating and spiritually degrading. And for what? Russell’s sagging, contortionist, turtle-looking ass? Bitch pleaze!
Thu, May 14, 2009 11:57 PM
What the UCK is Matthew McConaughey talking about? Nig is saying alot without exactly being straight about it. Closeted racist! And horny at that! This nicca has fantasies of banging Black broads and can’t rationalize it! He’s not the first & he definitely won’t be the last. The only solution: STOP SUPPORTING HIM & other white males who express their warped views of blackness!
Fri, May 15, 2009 4:53 AM
That’s exactly what he meant. I don’t understand how his comment could be misconstrued as being racist. You go Matthew, with your sexy self.
Fri, May 15, 2009 8:06 PM
LMAOOOOOOOOOOOO that ish is hella funny LMAOO
Tue, May 19, 2009 3:07 PM
I think he meant well but it didn’t come across right, i’m offended although i don’t think it was malicious, just put his foot in his mouth….sort of like when your man tells you the outfit make your booty look big, he likes that but you don’t. I wonder if he understood the first part of the question, “not coverworthy” I hope he didn’t mean that.
Tue, May 19, 2009 3:12 PM
I lost all respect for Katie Rost reading this mess! If it’s like that what the heck are you at his crib in his guest room chillin’ while (we know the word) his new girl in the upstairs…you tried to come across as diplomatic, I’m not going to dis the new girl good girl routine but all you look is lame! Girl get out his house and get you yours! Your better off than a lot of us out here struggeling just where your at and your crying! puh. (shaking head)
Wed, May 20, 2009 1:30 AM
Calm down folks, the interviewer really didn’t word that question right, but if you slow down and read it one word at a time you will see what they are asking him. Once you do that and truly understand the question, you want think that he is being negative or racist at all.
Question: “Any woman you can think of who might not be coverworthy, but whom you find attractive?”
Revised: Is there any woman that magazine editors might not find coverworthy, but you are attracted to them.
The question above that they asked him was to cover up their own bulls&%$ and the truth about these magazines out here Blackballin’ plus sized women.
He answered”Not so specifically, but yeah. And I see it more with black women, who get dressed up and they’re wearin’ everything to fit snug, and they’re walking the walk. And you’re like, Man, look at you go! Where did you get that? She might be a larger package, but boy, she sure understands how she’s wrapped.”
Translation:
Not so specifically, but yeah = he knew the question was misleading
And I see it more with black women, who get dressed up and they’re wearin’ everything to fit snug, and they’re walking the walk = I see this happening more to black women, who be looking damn good, clothes fitting nice, and that walk that makes you stand up
And you’re like, Man, look at you go! Where did you get that? = Damn, where you get that bod from
She might be a larger package, but boy, she sure understands how she’s wrapped = Although, the magazines don’t cover these type of women, she has confidence, struts her stuff and knows she is the bomb without the cover of a magazine, and I like it
That is what I take from his comment
Some people read so deep into things but not deep enough, until they get confused.
Read a little deeper folks and clear your minds, get the stereotypes, and negative thoughts out of your mind before reading controversial posts from right winged and side eyed media coverage
Wed, May 20, 2009 11:56 AM
Blah, blah, blah…Katie and Julie will get over this whole situation– and as far as Matt’s comment goes, he was complimenting black women. I think people are reading far TOO into his comment, because if you look at his reply to “Any woman you can think of who might not be coverworthy…” he states “Not so specifically, but yeah.” THEN his response to “…but whom you find attractive?” was how we as black women embrace our beauty and curves ESPECIALLY. Can you blame him though? haha ;]
Wed, May 20, 2009 12:19 PM
MM: Love the comment! I am not a racist but how is it that a white man can see the beauty of black women but not some black men?
Sat, June 13, 2009 3:16 PM
I as a black woman took Matt’s statement as a complement. He meant no wrong, it just may have sounded bad to all those black people who think everyone is out to get them. Oh, that sounded kinda of bad, but everyone knows someone who is like that, so don’t get mad.
Sat, June 13, 2009 3:20 PM
thank you that was such a perfect explanation :)
well done
