COUPLEDOM: Rick Foxx & Eliza Dushku
Vanessa Williams‘ 39 year old ex husband Rick Foxx has officially moved on. And his new boo is 28 year old actress Eliza Dushku:

They were extra coupled up courtside at the Celtics vs. Magic game last night. They were clearly more into each other than into the game. And that seems to be the case every time they go out. Folks have been spotting them all over each other around Miami and Vegas since March.
A source recently told Star magazine, “They’d been trying to play down their relationship. But there’s no denying that it’s hot and heavy. She’s completely smitten with him, and they have an amazing time together.”
Um, what? I mean…crazier things have happened. But um, yeah…

I have 8 first cousins that are bi-racial and they are considered black. Their doctors, friends, society, all consider them to be black. So therefore, that person is not discrediting their parent. Everyone else is doing that for them. I live in the South and many white people here still bleieve in the one drop rule; if you have a drop of black blood in you, you are considered black. So if a bi-racial person wants to look at themselves as being black, that is their right.
OnMay 19, 2009 at 2:03 pm (Quote) | Reply |
What the heck is 1/4 black blood? Nobody goes by that antiquated one drop rule anymore and biracial folks born of parents of two different races are people of mixed race and there is nothing wrong with declaring that. Biracial people aren’t going to deny their mothers or fathers who made them just because some insecure folks want them to. Most Black people don’t even care when biracial people say that they are biracial. It’s just the black, militant type who think they can’t tell folks how to live their lives and what they can call themselves. Rick is a mixed race man and he oftens talks about his white mother who he loves very much. If you don’t like people in interracial relationships then don’t do it yourself.

And for people to say that the South isn’t like that anymore must not live here or they’ve just been lucky and haven’t had to deal with it. All I was saying was people have the right to identify themselves anyway they want. If they want to be bi-racial that’s fine, if they want to say their black, that’s fine as well. It’s their right to be whatever they want to be.

-but it seems like divorced men tend to go after younger women after they get divorced and its so easy for a divorced man to get a woman but its harder for a divorced mother with kids to date again

The point that I was trying to make is this: People should be able to call themselves whatever they want. If someone is bi-racial and they want to be called that it’s great. And if someone is bi-racial and they want to be called black we should respect that.

We are a combination of both and we have the right to define who we are, no one else does. All of my white and black friends except me as a mixed raced person with two cultures and races. They are confident enough in themselves not to try to speak and think for me because they know it is not their place or responsibility to do so. Mixed race people are growing in number in North American and Europe and we will in time , become a force to be dealt with on our terms, no one else’s. People who are light-skinned are not necessarily biracial. You are biracial if your parents are of two different races. Perhaps in America society see biracial people as one thing, but that is only in America and that mode of thinking is changing. All through Europe, the caribbean and even in Africa people who are the offspring of parents of two different races are considered in the eyes of that society as mixed raced. They have a category for people in this group in Europe and in the Caribbean countries. Now the U.S. census has now recognized biracial people as their own group and designates them as such. Times are changing and the so-called one drop rule of defining ones race no longer applies in an increasingly diverse world. Those who continue to think the old way are irrelevant for what is happening in the world and in America today.
OnMay 19, 2009 at 7:26 pm (Quote) | Reply |
When people see me they don’t automatically see me as black, most people ask me, ‘What are You?’ Both black and white people ask that question. A person with parents of two different races is a biracial person and it doesn’t matter what some race militant has to say about it because it has nothing to do with them. You can’t tell people how to define themselves because it isn’t up to you.
OnMay 19, 2009 at 7:39 pm (Quote) | Reply |
Someone mentioned Vanessa Williams as a black woman and that is true, she defines herself that way because both of her parents are light colored African Americans. You are only biracial if one parent is black and the other is something else; white for mulattoes. As a dark colored African American woman I have zero problems with people with different racial parentage describing themselves in a way to encompass the entirety of their DNA. It is their prerogative and I don’t understand some black people, usually dark skinned ones like me, who are angered by this. I guess if you are not biracial yourself it is difficult to understand how biracial feel about this matter. After talking with many mixed raced people I do understand that they do not want to exclude the race of one parent in favor of the other. And I also agree that society is expanding its views on what constitutes one’s race. People in society do not at face value think a person is one way when they are something else.

Vanessa williams is mixed, her mother was a white woman and her father was black man. She was adopted and so was her brother. You can read it up. whatever you want to call yourself is your business, but don’t get upset when people refuse to honor that. I had a mixed friend who claimed tha she was white, and when she checked it on her application everyone was 100% shocked to see a light skined woman with long honey complexion hair. You could see the look on the employers face.

they asked my mother the same thing(half italian and black) people would come up and start speaking spanish or even arabic, but she knew who she was, a black woman. You have the right to be what you want, but please don’t get mad when people can’t accept it.

It is what it is. But, black men are never honest about this issue. They say its about choice. Black women are much to smart to buy into that.
Many black scholars will tell you that this effects more than the self esteem of black women. It deprives black children of fathers, increase poverty, decreasing the black population, (many pass for latino), and so many other cultural and socioeconomic ramifications. In essence, it is not as simplistic as many would believe. This is all coming from someome who is married to a white man. Don’t be so quick to call black women haterz. There is more at stake in our communities.

THat younger generation identifies as mixed. My son denies being simply black, he says he is mixed (biracial). The country has changed from Vanessa and Halle days.

MIERDA! if your are 1/2 black and 1/2 white then that makes you 1/2 black and 1/2 white. Not simply black or simply white! he has just as much right to be with a white woman as with a black woman. Maybe you all would leave him alone if he got with a mixed race like himself. Live and let live. And p.s. JIM CROW DAYS ARE OVER! yall are mad you dont have an icecubes chance in hell with him unless your tasha mack..lol

The funniest thing about this blog is how insecure some of you Black women are. You cant stand to see a Black man with a white girl. I don’t look at race that way I never knock anyone for finding someone for themselves. Just because your black and another person is black does not mean you are meant to be friends, go into business together, or be together in a relationship. Its funny how people look at the white/black relationship as the cop out when interracial relationships are arguably the hardest relationship to be in (mostly because of close minded people like you!) I encourage you all to find someone you love no matter what the color instead of limiting yourselves with these angry black women attitudes.
P.S. The argument about white women is that they are hoes. The funny thing is that some of you making those comments give it up just as quickly

What the hell! Vanessa Williams and her brother were not adopted. They are both the children of two light-skinned African American school teachers. Please don’t make up this stuff if you don’t know what you are talking about. Vanessa stated that herself on a Canadian talk show because some ignorant black writer was calling her half- white because she is light and has green eyes. If both of your parents are black regardless of the skin tone then you are black as well. If your parents are of two different racial groups then you are biracial, that’s where the term bi comes in. I am a dark woman and in high school I had a mixed race friend who looked like Elizabeth Taylor with a slight tan. She had straight, jet black hair and blue-green eyes and whenever we went out somewhere nosy people (including black people) would constantly ask her what race she was, they didn’t even know that her mother was black. They guess every race but biracial, so society doesn’t always know what race a person is by appearances alone.BMW your mother was mixed but she chose to identify as black alone and that is her choice, that doesn’t make you biracial, only your mother was biracial. So you shouldn’t get mad when biracial people call themselves that and not black. Don’t be saying society says you are black so that is what you are because I have news for you, that is no longer relevant in today’s world.

All those white girls certainly love their chocolate!
Note: BMW sounds like she has a chip on her shoulder.
To all my biracial sisters, name yourself! Don’t ever allow angry, insecure folks tell you what you are because you are what you say you are and to hell with those who don’t like it. You don’t have to please them and you ain’t got nothing to prove, so live your life!
Also, just wanted to put in my 2cents about Miss Vanessa, Rick’s ex-wife, she is indeed a fully immersed, beautiful African American woman. Both parents are A.A and so is she so stop with the foolishness of saying she was adopted and her moms was white because it just ain’t so. Have a YGF day you Fabulous Ladies!!! Love to all including the HATERS!

You guys are making a big deal about this. Ok. What if she was a Latina? Would that make a difference?
If these comments were made on a predominately white website would you call them racist?
God is Love and Love is GOD, stop hating on them and worry about your own problems.

There is no mixed race. Listen to yourself when you say that. Does mixed or bi-racial make sense to you. MOST black people in the Americas and in the Diaspora have something in the bloodline other than African. Be it, Native Indian, Asian, Caucasian, etc. Black people and other melanated peoples of the world NEVER had a concept of race before the European came into being. Europeans made that up to cause confusion and division. Sad to see it still works.
