Lil Wayne hit the stage with baby and Drake–who tore his ACL so he performed sitting down.
Kerry looked nice accepting her first BET Award.
And Ciara sang “Heal The World” to tribute Michael. Yeah….

Beyonce accepted an award. Looking hot in a multi colored mini dress. Even though it felt a little flnstone-ish. Her hubby Jay performed D.O.A. His official video for it that just aired wasn’t too shabby either.
Soulja Boy literally hopped up out the bed and turned his swage on…
KeKe Palmer flexed her pipes and belted out an MJ song. Loves it.
Chaka had Estelle and LeToya Luckett taking notes. Loved LeToya’s dress.
BBD and Keith Sweat brought the 90’s back! One of my fave performaces.
And Trey Songz and Tyrese and Johnny Gill performed a tribute to the O’Jays. A did a fab job.
11:37p EST: Janet Jackson just took the stage. Understandably shaken but still solid. She’s speaking about her family’s love for their son and brother. And how much pain the family is in. She also thanks everyone for all their love they’ve shown. “I’ll Be There” tribute taking place now with Ne-Yo, Jamie Foxx, and others…
11:05p EST: Usher’s reps just sent this statement regarding him not making it back in time for the BET Awards even though he was trying to:
“It is with regret that I am unable to participate in the BET Awards Tribute to Michael Jackson on June 28th. When the BET Awards producers and organizers reached out to me to participate in the tribute, I was extremely flattered and humbled by the opportunity to pay tribute to the world’s greatest musical icon. Unfortunately, I am currently overseas and would not make it back in time to the Awards show. I look forward to seeing the show and I plan to work on a tribute to Michael Jackson when I return.”
11:00p EST: We’re trying to figure out why Lebron has his boys sitting next to him on the front row while his fiance/mother of his children Savannah is sitting a few rows behind him. Congrats to him on winning Sports person of the year though…Diddy didn’t bring Assie to the event, but Dawn is sitting right next to him on the front row…We never want to hear Tiny or Toya speak again or promo their new show. Ever.
10:41p EST: SPOTTED: Alicia Keys in the audience sans Swizz Beatz. Kanye and Amber extra cuddly dancing to the O’Jays. And a BET producer who took the stage during a commercial break to propose to his girlfriend. Sweet…

Whether you agree with whats going on in his personal life or not, the one person who could have performed an amazing tribute for Michael, is Chris Brown. Yet after BET gave him the green light, let him and his team create a special performance for the awards preparing everything, they then told him no. You know what, I had to think about it and I feel you on that. I think BET could only do so much in such short notice, but even without the MJ tributes…the show still sucks, LOL! Beyonce isn’t really a technical dancer like Ci Ci or Chris Brown, so I wasn’t expecting her to bust a move like that but I thought she was going to do a more exciting song.

This is the first tribute i have watched for MJ because it’s just so painful. I was hoping that BET would really make a great one, the one thing that i can say that i have liked about it is that it has been upbeat. It is definitely not the best there has been i’m sure, but they are making me smile instead of cry. Michael Jackson’s music especially the early music represents to me the way life was when we were kids. Family picnics, playing on the block, having fun and not having to worry about getting shot, robbed or killed before you even make it to your teens! REST IN PEACE MICHAEL!!!!

BET equals nonsense. I don’t watch it that much, but tuned in to see M.J.’s tribute, which I felt like it was not enough and good tribute to him, especially how it was been publicized, but i understand it’s last minute. It’s such a shame, disgrace and embarrassment that black people are so proud of a channel that depicts them in such a negative way, and also confirms all the stereotypes that people have about us, and it’s called Black entertainment television.
I have no respect for Hova, who indirectly calls himself God, whether god of rap or whatever way he sees himself, all i know is he talks too highly of himself, and i guess that’s what Bey likes about him, that’s a problem. The look on Bey’s face was priceless when Jamie wanted to introduce her hubby. Like, just tell me M.J. is not dead, and he’s coming next on stage to perform, i felt the same way too.
Honestly, i feel like Joe Jackson is not mourning his son enough. I saw his interview with Ron Lemon on CNN, and I can see the detachment, no emotions. His one of the reasons, Michael had so much problems, and a miserably life despite all he had. I just feel for M.J., and still can’t believe he’s gone. Someone mentioned on one of the comments, that he did everything to hide his blackness.
In response to that, if you grew up the way and went through what M.J. did, his childhood was stripped away from him, he was in the public eye at the age of 5, and became an iconic figure, tried to appeal to the public, had a disease called vitiligo, all of these things can mess someone up. I know there will probably be more messy things, that the press will bring up about Michael, and I don’t trust Joe Jackson at all.

I think the problem with this show is that it’s trying to do too many things. There was the honoring of the O’Jays for their lifetime achievements. There was the party atmosphere for the 106&parkers with the likes of Soulja Boy. Now they’re trying to emphasize the humanitarian generosity of Alicia Keys and Wyclef Jean. And on top of that, they are trying to acknowledge the recent passing of Michael Jackson. It’s just too much. A good show has a central theme, a tight focus, and entertaining acts is built around that. This is just too disjointed.

BET really needs to take out time to put together a REAL tribute show for Mike!!! It can air in January. That way the media will be then died down some. Get some real talent like Usher, CB, JT. Diana Ross, Mariah, and many of his other TRUE friends in the business. Even get nonfamous fans who can do Mike to a T. It’s understandable that they didn’t have much time to incorporate him into the show, but they shouldn’t have hyped this BS up like this. Pay the man some respect in a more appropriate way. They need to go all out for Mike. They got 6 months to put the show together if they do what I just said. BET needs to be more organized and stop catering to the same tired people in this industry. The BET awards is a bit of a let down. I understand they had 2-3 days to prepare a tribute to MJ but if MJ didn’t pass the show would be worse?? Because I don’t see much of a tribute and this is pretty boring.
I don’t think a lot of people hate Beyonce’s performance. It’s just you would expect more from her. If anything else is boring you should be able to count on her to do something more uptempo.

Most INGNORANT awards show I’ve ever watched. This was not a proper tribute to MJ. Random Stories and pure foolishness is not the way to honor someone. From babymamas accepting awards to little girls dancing on stage with Cash Money…not a good look. It was def. entertaining though but could have been much better!! Ok they needed alot of help tonight, I love me some Jamie Foxx he opened the show on point but he performed what 3 times Ne-yo to, Beyonce has a beautiful voice she looked stunning but I was thinkin she was gone come out rockin, they really did need Usher and Chris Brown for the tribute I was just waiting for a HUGE FINALE celebrating MJ! Janet’s appearance was a wonderful surprise and so was Tevin Campbell, BBD, GUY, and KEITH SWEAT. I guess they made due with what they had. But they hyped it up so much I guess I thought it was gonna be BIGGER than what it was. The BET Awards were a complete coon fest. There was no tribute and rap dudes shouting RIP Michael Jackson after cussing up a storm during their performance does not make a tribute. The highlights for me were Maxwell, The O’Jays, the New Jack Swing performances - even though Aaron Hall sounded hoarse.
Thank goodness Janet only arrived a few minutes before the show ended so she could say her thank yous to everyone.
I still can’t believe Joe Jackson was on the red carpet promoting his record label, WTF! Your son just passed away. I’ll be waiting on a proper tribute from another network b/c BET FAILED miserably.

Whoever was in charge of the awards should have had one special clip in honor of Michael Jackson’s life and career. It seemed much less meaningful coming from people like Soulja Boy yelling “Rest in peace Michael” right before he starts screaming “Hopped up out the beeeeeeeeed turn my swaaaaaaaag on,” lookin’ like a damn fool. (idk if he really did that but i did hear some MJ shoutouts right before/after rap songs - totally inappropriate).
Hearing rap on the radio is one thing, but we I see any rap artists perform live it just looks like one big joke. A bunch of unattractive men slurring their words, talking about nonsense, looking moronic….UGH…I hope rap dies out really soon.

I’m lmao at some of these comments but I do agree with most. I think BET could’ve done a MUCH better job than this. The show started out strong with New Edition and Jamie Foxx and Neyo then it started going downhill. I really did expect more form Beyonce(not hating)and Ciara should’ve been replaced. Janet made me cry not the “finale tribute”. I know that when the AMA’s come on they will do a TRUE tribute to Michael Jackson. He deserves it. I’m not taking anything away from BET either because what they did was just okay, it just could’ve been better.

Im about to shut comments like this down…first off, its not no ones job that is here commenting to “do better” then them because as I can tell, no one in here is an entertainer. Im not, nor do I wish to be…that is not what im going to school for, majoring in and working towards. I am doing a damn good job so far in living out my dreams and continually working towards my own personal greatness..so therefor I have nothing to be upset about. I highly suggest some of you low self esteem people step away from the computer and stop worshiping phony gods and work towards your own person greatness instead of trying to live through someone elses.
Further more, I liked all the old school performances and thought Jamie was funny and also think its a damn shame that it took the old school musicians to bring this show a bit of life..if Michael Jacksons death has shown anything…its that he was truely one of a kind, and no one will ever be like him nor perform like him. He deserves every bit of respect he has gotten…because unlike the majority of the “entertainers” we seen in that room tonight, he dedicated his life to not only entertaining people but going outside the realms of entertainment to contribute to the world in trying to make it a better place.
So maybe before some of you low self esteem people come on the Internet trying to be mad at people for not caring for this show…maybe you should look back on the history of MJ as not only an entertainer…but a humanitarian and maybe then you would understand why some people are so irritated by BET promoting this show the way they did…instead of just taking their time and doing it right. BET Awards have been real decent these past few years…I dont know what happen this year, but something was missing to say the least.

I ENJOYED KEYSIA AND MONICA’S PERFORMANCE AND AS USUAL THEY ARE TWO TRMENDOUS TALENTS. JAMIE FOX IS SO AMAZING…HE MAKES US LAUGH WITHOUT TRYING. DID NOT LIKE THE NE SEGMENT. THEIR VOICES WERE OFF FOR SOME REASON. THE O’JAYS DID THEIR THING ‘SHE USE TO BE MY GIRL’ HIT THE SPOT. TYREESE IS STILL THE MAN..I LOVE HIM IN A SUIT..SO AMAZING AND HE CAN SAAAANG. where do i start. i was soo disappointed not to see chris brown perform. i thought he would have made the show more exciting and would have been the perfect person to pay hommage to mj since this was a tribute or was it really. the overall show was just a big disappointment and i only watched it because i thought chris brown was going to perform. i hope bet ratings go down for this, i was just a terrible show all together. they should have just did a show to tribute mj instead of adding it to the awards show. i am a very disppointed fan and bet has now lost a long time viewer.

It would have been differently had BET not gassed it up and made it seem like they COMPLETELY re-did their show to honor MJ when clearly they didn’t. Having artists yell out “RIP MJ” is not honoring him.
And to people saying that they didn’t have enough time to put anything together, please stop. If you’ve ever watched any type of sports, basketball especially, then you know they have a highlight clip (with music) that sometimes plays at the beginning of halftime or before a commercial break. How long do you think those guys have to make that? Try about 20 minutes. BET had 3 days. BET NEEDS MORE PEOPLE!!!

OMG, Janet, my heart aches for her entire family, I hope they REALLY understand how much they are loved! I am listening to the BET after party as I write this (IDK why, too lazy to change the channel) but does Tigger annoy anyone else with that silly laugh? Jamie, is giving BET way too much credit for putting on a great show - umm how about NO! Anywho, the show was not all bad, Jay-Z was great, Bey- I love her, but tonight’s performance did nothing for me, wish they would have had her do something in memory of Michael. Keri Hilson, beautiful, talented woman, but please do not diss any other beautiful, talented woman until you step up your live performances! Love Alica Keys, she is a beautiful, loving spirit, and so is Wyclef, thank GOD for people like them! Queen Latifah was great on the MaryMary song. Maxwell was fabulous! It was good to see Travis Barker looking good and killing those drums after his horrible accident. The tribute to the Ojays was done very well! The Ojays were GREAT! Don C. was hilarious, I thought he would never stop talking! GOD, I miss Michael! I wish we would have appreciated him so much more while he was here, sometimes we get caught up in all the untruths about people and become very quick to dismiss them. I am a little guilty of that with Michael but I never stopped loving his music. Now that he is gone and they have been playing his music, I appreciate him even more, he was INCREDIBLE! Back to the show, Ne-yo is a great performer! Alicia Keys and Wyclef are GOD send - it is great to see them doing things that matter! Why was Diddy looking so out of touch? - Maybe he was reflecting about MJ that’s understandable. It was good to see Tevin Campbell, he looked old, but he sounded good. BBD, was great, Keith Sweat was funny and sounded not so good. Missed the opening act but saw a recap, it looked like it was pretty good. I hope someone steps up to the plate and give Michael the tribute that he so deserves because tonight, BET was a BIG FAT FAIL. Good Night all!

Bey, missed her performance but caught it on youtube. Ave Maria has been one of my favorites since I was a child. I think she was trying to give her tribute by mixing in Angel (another beautiful song)…I was quite impressed with her vocals.
…but the costume choice…not so much.
Body was on point though.
Alicia looked beautiful as well.
Oh..TINY shocked the heck out of me coming up…I was laughing my arse off by the end of that one. Good luck to her nonetheless.

Where do I start, I was also disappointed in the show due to the media hype. I did enjoy maxwell and the old school people. I really enjoyed the babyboy skit(Hilarious).
Jamie did a good job and to be honest for the amount of time BET had they did what they could. I think they will do a honors show for Michael.
I do not understand why Lebron would have his boys on the front row and Savannah sitting in a couple of rows behind. I guess he was right when he said at the MVP conference she gets all of his stuff. He was dead wrond for that one.

I am in total disgust over this show. Lil Waynes performance was by far the most disgraceful thing I have seen in awhile. To get up there and use such profane and vulgar language with young girls dancing on stage is uncalled for. This is what we call music today?!! It’s a shame a legend is gone and this is what we have today. I respect artists such as Alicia Keys, Ne-Yo, and Kanye who actually write songs that have meaning and touch people. BET could have easily done a one song tribute with the singers they had available and be done with it. This was straight foolywag material and coonery at its best!

This was probably the worst awards show ever from BET. The king of POP/R&B died and this is all you could do for him??? The only thing they had was new edition singing a medley. Jamie doing a few quick moves, hearsay talk from a few celebs…for a legend??? My goodness. BET, I thought I was sitting through a lame boring movie. It was dry as hizell. I’m highly disappointed in Beyonce who came out in this big ridiculous bridal dress and sang ave maria. Couldnt she pay homage to MJ. Keri Hilson and Neyo did a lil somethin for mike, but I was expecting more coming from beyonce. But of course not….Monica and Keyshia…umm try again. Better yet don’t even try at all. I was looking forward to the show but was heavily disappointed because of the lack of artists tributing to the late Michael Jackson. There were more artists singing their own songs than showing admiration for what he has contributed to not only to the world, but to our community. Jamie Foxx basically carried the show by making us laugh, while expressing his musical talents. I could count on my hand the number of people that sang Michael’s songs, and no one even attempted to embody the spirit of his performances. Yeah you had people singing ballads but he was a pop artist that danced! Where were the dances? Seriously it was a piss poor excuse for a tribute and honestly I would have rather BET wait for the opportunity to do a tribute the right way, than to do a rushed job of it. There’s all these megastars like Beyonce, Jay-Z, Lil Wayne and none of them sing or rap any of his songs. Really? It was a better tribute done to the lifetime achievement recipients, The Ojays, than to Michael Jackson. I am not only disappointed but hurt by all of this. I’m sorry but the media was watching us and BET let everyone down. It was the worst.

It’s very sad, that you can not differentiate between a real talent, and artists who have no talent. Since you can not, I will encourage you to go through all of M.J. videos to see what ” talent” really means. You don’t have to be a hater, to see that the show was a disgrace, a failure, and there are just too many artists out there who have no talent. I understand it’s tough, but i know even without M.J. tribute, it would still have been a failure.
