Jay-Z Put The Smack Down On Chris Brown?+REALITY FAB: Chilli, Fantasia, & Pepa Confirm Reality Shows For 2010
We posted this last night in the live post on the BET Awards show but it got lost/erased in the shuffle One of Chris Brown’s dancers posted on Twitter that the reason Chris didn’t perform a tribute for Michael Jackson (as said would happen by sources and BET themselves) was because of Jay-Z. We knew Chris may get scrapped as soon as Jay hit the stage last night:
And he’s claiming Jay gave BET an ultimatum. And it prevented Chris from performing. Damn homie.
Reality tv is taking over even more in 2010. VH-1 has added several reality shows to the line up:
‘Chilli‘ from R&B supergroup TLC, has decided to take the reins of her lackluster romantic situation and launch an all out search for the love of her life in the yet-to-be titled “Chilli Project.” Despite huge success as a recording artist and a mother, Chilli has grown tired of striking out on the romantic front, so she has enlisted the help of Brooklyn relationship expert Tionna Smalls. Not one to let people take the easy way out, Tionna has promised to give Chilli the challenging emotional workout she needs in order to get over the hurdles that have kept her from having the long-term serious relationship she craves. The series has been picked up for eight half-hour episodes and is set to premiere in 2010.
The untitled “Pepa” series is a real-life comedy following Sandra “Pepa” Denton of Salt-n-Pepa fame as she emerges from her self-imposed romantic and sexual dormancy of the past four years as she begins to search for love again. After years of living a celibate life in order to focus on finding “the one,” Pep has realized that giving up sex actually got her nowhere in the relationship world. She didn’t “evolve,” she didn’t land a husband and the only close relationship she formed was with her exercise bike. But she’s not the only one. Her three closest girlfriends are all single and searching too. The four friends will laugh, cry and dish the dirt as they support each other along the way. The “Pepa” series has been picked up for eight half-hour episodes and is set to premiere in 2010.
Another series centered on the family and career of “American Idol” winner Fantasia Barrino as she refocuses and tries to get her career back on track with the untitled “Fantasia” series.

Why did i hear B tried to stop Letoya Luckett from coming to the show or performing. I swear the carters think they are?? BET Awards 09 was a hot mess. Too much Jaime, he should never attempt to do the moon walk again. Where was the Dance tribute? Ciara should have stuck to what she does best and that is dancing, leave the singing to Beyonce
If its true about Jay Z were does he get off, so when does an ex drug dealer and man who got caught on tape hitting a women decide Chris Brown cant perform. If T.I can get an award from Jail than Chris Brown can perform.
Drama aside Chris Brown would have killed that performance, he can dance like Michael. He did a great job at the MTV awards a few years back.

Hold up! Didn’t this very site report a few weeks ago that Jay was going to perform at the show? So why are we trying to make it seem like Jay took his spot. Before Michael even passed the radio and tv spots mentioned Jay.
Also didn’t Toure already say that it was Covergirl who put the smack down on any possible performance by Chris? They were sponsors of the show and as such didn’t want Chris on there because Rihanna is their girl.
Either way that show was shit and even Chris could not have saved it. I knew he wouldn’t perform the second the blogs and other media outlets said him doing so could be his shot at redemption in the publics eye. BET wasn’t about to let that happen and Jay couldn’t do anything to influence that.
Also if the show was all about Michael and they changed the format supposedly BET wouldn’t/shouldn’t have allowed anyone to dictate who could and could not perform! So what Jay would’ve pulled out. That would’ve freed up time for more tributes to Michael Jackson who the night was dedicated to. I don’t buy this one bit. Chris plead guilty on Monday and no awards show was gonna let him perform on Sunday. It’s a sad situation but if anything it seems like BET did not want media outrage for allowing a newly convicted felon perform on their show and do a tribute that would’ve gotten massive media attention. The blame is all on BET to me for this one and I am soooooooooo not buying this story.

Regardless of what Chris did, he should be allowed to pay tribute to Michael Jackson. Jay Z needs to perform, sit down, and then shut up…in that order. Are you serious?!?! It drives me crazy when people try to use the strong arm tactic to get their way. They have names for people like that…bullies, cry babies, etc. Chris went to court and received his punishment. one, i love jaime so i didn’t mind that he was in it a lot. but i liked his moon walk and all his tribute costumes and even his MJ jokes. i don’t think that he was originally assigned that many jobs as far as performing but since they had a good performer in him, it was prolly easier to ask him. plus, he did a great job, imo. plus, with the switcharoo, i’m sure all the camera glitches and delayed starts and wide panning of the stage were part of this switch.

personally i feel Chris Brown career is over. He may have a few nappy headed girls who don’t mind a punch to the face to still keep him employed at the local strip club, but as a cross over singer, major player, it’s over.

Well I guess we can all thank Jay-Z for the BET awards sucking ass this year. I only watched b/c I read that Chris was set to perform. You know damn well that boy would have killed it and would have actually DANCED. How the hell you gonna have an MJ tribute and have none of those artists dance? Not even Ciara!? Chris has been a HUGE MJ fan from the get go and always showed love and respect to him. Performed his songs and shouted him out in his concerts. The one thing that frustrates me the most about all of this is that this show was hyped to be a tribute to Michael Jackson. So what does Jay-Z have to do with it?? Jay-Z did not tribute MJ at all in his performance. BET should have had enough balls to do what they felt was right.
And no one has a heaven nor a hell to but Chris Brown in. If Rihanna forgave Chris then the world needs to also. At the end of the day, that situation only concerns the two of them because they were the parties involved. Everyone can give their opinion but thats it.
It is not like Chris Brown wanted to promote his next album. He wanted to pay his respects to the greatest of all time. Chris just plead guilty and was given his punishment on Monday. Michael passed sadly on Thursday. It is so sad but i don’t think BET would’ve allowed him on that stage no matter what. It’s unfortunate because i’m sure Chris would’ve done great. This is just a hard, hard lesson. You have to watch yourself at all times and stay dedicated to your craft else HUGE special moments will pass you by.

Chris had been rehearsing and everything and Jay-Z pulled the plug on him single-handedly because everyone (record label, execs, etc) gave BET the ok for Chris to perform. I know as a fan of Michael’s I was disappointed because even though Chris is going through all that mess with Rhi-Rhi he is a Great performer and he will never be Michael Jackson but he is the most like him right now.

The Chrinnagate situation is not Jay’s business and I think he was out of line to have Chris’ act pulled from the show. Chris plead guilty and he is paying his punishment, and he apologized. Chris shouldn’t be punished for the rest of his life because of a bad decision he made. Also Necole is reporting the Covergirl story. Chris was willing to pay but even that wouldn’t offset what they lost in Covergirl sponsorship. I’m not sure what the big deal was. This was just the annual BET awards show. Yes, a Legend and Icon who we all loved died 3 days before the awards show and so some tribute pieces were incorporated in the show. It doesn’t take away from the fact that this is still an award show. Artists will still showcase what they have been working on. I am sure that there will be a separate tribute show where all the relevant artists will perform. This performance will probably ask for the Jacksons input and will probably be much more classy. Maybe most likely the Pres and First Lady will be there. Usher, JT, (maybe)Chris, and who-ever else will perform a proper tribute. Not one hurriedly put together but one that will give a legend credit and praise.

I come on here to read the posts and some of you all are as funny as all get out. I was extremely disappointed by the BET awards. If this is what being a black entertainer is about now a days, you can keep it. In his music, Michael Jackson never swore, never called a woman out of her name and never had video hoe’s in his videos. He had beautiful people of color in his videos. Say what you want about Michael Jackson, but he was proud to be black. If a person was really paying attention in his videos, it was there. As far as the BET awards, I will never, ever watch that jacked up, put anyone without talent on the show channel again. I’m old enough to be Chris Brown’s mother but I would have enjoyed seeing him perform a dance tribute to Michael Jackson. I know the boy did wrong and he is being punished for it. But like Christ said, if you can’t forgive your brother than I can’t forgive you. If it was going to be a tribute show, it should have been all about Michael Jackson. Right now, and you all can say what you want, but Chris Brown would have done right by Michael Jackson and you know who’s going to benefit from that, the Grammy’s and the AMA’s and MTV. BET just showed that they have no backbone and no pride in being black. No one was saying this on Monday when he plead guilty. With both MJ and Chris we rushed to judgment whether they were guilty or innocent. They went through hell and then after we want to change our tune and stand up for them. People can’t have it both ways. You want Chris to get a harsher punishment YET you want him to dance for you a few days later. Please!! People here are hypocrites and THAT is what i’m pointing out. Yes, Chris is a grown man- but I will use the analogy that we all know. You don’t, “spare the rod and spoil the child”. He needs to be fully aware of the severity of what he did and the punishment needs to fit the crime. That is why there will always be speculations as to whether the punishment was severe enough. It is important that our young men realize that this is not acceptable and they don’t just get a slap on the wrist for it.
That being said, even if people believe that someone (Chris Brown) should be punished to fit the severity of the crime they perpetrated doesn’t mean that they don’t care for the well being of that person at all. Chris loved Michael and wanted to pay tribute. That is a separate issue from the punishment of his crime. The timing wasn’t good since he was just convicted within the week but we all know Chris looked up to Michael. That is why many people still wanted him to perform. It is not hypocrisy.
Personally, I didn’t want to see him perform because it would just be a marketing ploy to improve public perception of him. I still respect the opinions of the people who wanted to see him perform. I’m sure Chris will get his time. It just wasn’t now.
I hope that all that is happening will make Chris think twice about repeating this after he has been drinking and some female is pissing him off.

The outrage some people have when they were so cold and callous to that young man on Monday to me is hypocritical. I personal felt people were to hard on Chris. He made a terrible mistake and endured alot afterwards. I would’ve loved to see him pay tribute to his idol but the timing was sadly all wrong and i think BET was to weak and focused on the almighty dollar. Didn’t Jay and Steve Stoute get Chris the Doublemint deal he lost. I don’t think Jay has it out for Chris. He got helped him with that deal and wasn’t all up under him before that. After reading these posts, again I have to comment. BET owes everyone who watched the awards show a big old apology. They especially owe one to the Jackson Family. Michael Jackson and his family changed the direction of music for everyone. For BET to put on that unorganized, depressing and degrading show is enough to make me boycott BET forever. If Michael Jackson wasn’t already dead, he would have surely keeled over from watching that crap. If black people have pride in themselves and are tired of watching black folks being embarrassed, degraded and dehumanized then they should boycott BET until they start showing quality programming. There is enough people that watched the show to make BET apologize for showing that dysfunctional programming. When I see or hear people saying that was a good show, I’m thinking, were you watching and/or listening to the same thing I was watching and listening to. Evidently not, because if you were you would be just as outraged as the rest of us who thought BET was on some of that other stuff by showing that digusting display. I wasted 3 hours of my life that I cannot get back and for that alone, BET should be apologize.

Im so over jay n bey…they swear they own the damn world & they dont…the family REQUESTED that chris pay tribute to michael because they knew he would do him justice and of course they had to stop that…

you must not know that much about MICHEAL JACKSON he loves chris he even called chris on his b day and on top of that he said himself if anyone was to do a tribute it would be chris so technically BET didn’t do justice in any type of way

yes chris was wrong for doin ri ri like that but it’s kinda fishy that we have yet to learn tha whole story which throws me off and another thing where is chris brown mug shot?? u telling me they got a pic of her but not chris something is wrong because whens is the last time u ever heard of TMZ not gettin a mug shot?? now for the awards it was bull and no were not riding chris dick we just all know that chris would have rocked the stage and done it justice i can’t believe BET judge chris but had wayne PERORMING THAT DISRESPECTFUL SONG and JAYZ a true woman beater (you know when you hit a woman more than once)had to explain because chris was at a heated moment LIKE MOST U LOSE YOUR COOL ( a woman beater is someone who does it more than once) 2nd time had to get it out there again!
i just don’t get it Bet talking about they didn’t want him to perform cuz it would have taken the tribute away that’s why some people were watching to see him dance duh there wasn’t a tribute period so did i miss somethig???

Ok sigh; let me get em. Michael Jackson would not have approved Ms Creamy Peach? Seriously? So why was he on stage with James Brown back then cause everyone one knows about James Brown a woman beater and MJ was Happy to be there. Sigh who else, err, people who say its not right for that woman beater to be their YET yall complaining about Bobby’s tongue rather than what he did to Whitney…aint nobody saying Bobby shouldnt have been there because of what he did to Whitney. Might as well told Joe Jackson stay home also cause he hit his wife already.
Point is you have no point, Chris hit Rihanna, Bobby hit Whitney and had her on that ish, Don Cornelius another veteran woman beater but yall aint say sh!t bout non of them so get off CB back…between Bobby performed, CB sure as hell shoulda performed and if all them woman beaters was in da house.
