Chris Brown’s reps say Jay-Z did not keep Chris from performing a Michael Jackson tribute at the BET Awards this weekend. They say Chris was never confirmed to perform in the first place so all the rumors all false:
Brown — who’s been low-key since beating up his ex-girlfriend (and Jay-Z’s artist), Rihanna, earlier this year — was supposed to take part in a Michael Jackson tribute. But a source said, “Jay-Z wasn’t having it. He threatened to pull out of the show if Chris was involved, so BET dropped Chris.” A rep for Brown said, “That’s not true — he was never confirmed to perform.”

Jamie Foxx Calls in to the Rickey Smiley Morning Show
So, Jamie called in to the show this morning to talk about the BET Awards. Here are some interesting things that he said about some of the things that people are talking about:
- Janet’s decision to appear was made at the very last minute.
- Jamie was still learning choreography and getting costumes made the day before the show.
- Chris Brown was never at the rehearsals for the show.
- Jamie did not really want to speak on the Chris “controversy” since it was supposed to be all about honoring Michael, but he finally said that the writers of the show (Jamie, Marcus King, and Stephen Hill) decided not to include Chris in the tribute because they wanted to “protect” him. The show was supposed to be all about honoring Michael, and they didn’t want the issues with Chris to affect that. As far as Jay-Z having Chris cut from the show, Jamie’s exact words were “Jay-Z and Beyonce don’t run the show.”
- A lot of things during the show were switched around at the very last minute. Stephen Hill made the call for Beyonce not to open the show with “I’ll Be There,” but instead to do “Ave Marie.” They wanted to open the show with something uplifting, so they went with New Edition.
- LOL, Jamie made fun of Don Cornelius’s long-winded speech during the O’Jay’s tribute.
- The rest of the call was them making fun of Flava Flav for showing up at the Jackson family house and not being let in. Of course, Jamie did his famous Terrance Howard impersonation!

N all ya’ll that are mad about the awards need to realize this: the whole show was changed because MJ passed!! I don’t see what the big deal was about Chris Brown being there. They let Don Cornelius come on stage and be apart of the show and he just beat up his wife a few months ago. I read somewhere (can’t remember where) that it was Covergirl that halted his performance, not Jay Z. Apparently, Covergirl was a huge sponsor and threatened to pull out if Chris B performed. Makes sense seeing as how Rihanna works for them too.

Whoa some of these comments are heated. Weather it is TRUE or NOT, Chris Brown’s performance wouldn’t have saved the drowning ship that was the BET AWARDS. Yeah, it would have been awesome to have him there to pay true homage to MJ legacy but what can you do. I’ am glad he didn’t perform because he needs to make his comeback on a bigger stand like the MTV or Grammy Award’s show honoring Michael. It is being reported at a NEWS site that Al Sharpton and Jay Z both protested his appearance, saying it was inappropriate so soon after the guilty plea and also for an MJ tribute show. on the other hand, they would not have THOUGHT about banning the Godfather of Soul from the show, even though he was convicted of the same thing…he was also the idol of MJ.
I think time will heal the CB situation but it may a bit too soon to go pretending nothing happened and sending the message to our youth that this behavior is acceptable. He wanted to be seen as innocent, he shoulda went to trial and been found that way (though unlikely). I think the decision was right.

This is so ignorant. First, Jay-Z did not punch, spit or kick any woman. He mushed her, the same way my brother has mushed me and the woman (who still works with him to this day) immediatealy came out and say they were playing. Do you really think Jay-Z would let them keep that part in the movie if they weren’t joking? Please use your brains. He’s a multi-millionaire therefore he isn’t stupid.
Jamie Foxx and Chris’s reps said he isn’t responsible, that should be enough, people need to quit the crying.
Chris may deserve a second chance but you damn sure don’t get to tell Rihanna’s loved ones (i.e. Jay who is like a big brother to her) when they have to forgive Chris for punching Rihanna in the face several times. If Jay-Z doesn’t want to perform on the same stage as him, he doesn’t have to, that is his perogative. BET made the final decision but its more convenient for people to blame Jay-Z. BET could have easily told Jay that they wanted Chris to perform so they didn’t need him to anymore, but they didn’t.
We all know Jay used to sell drugs twenty years ago, but that was twenty years ago. He has shown over time that he is not the same guy anymore and learned from the mistakes he made. Chris hasn’t had time to do that yet, but some of ya’ll act like people should just get over it immediately which is crazy – especially thinking people close to Rihanna would just get over it.

That awards show was a hot ass mess. I waited all night to see chris brown perform thriller or some form of a michael jackson song and what did I get some whack ass performance by beyonce that totally went over my head and Lil Wayne with his 12 year old daughter and friends up on stage while he performs I want to F*** every girl in the world. I don’t know what is going down at BET but they could have did a whole lot better and I think a chris brown performance would have kept my attention span on the show alot better then Ne-Yo and Jamie Foxx performing every 5 damn minutes.
