Beyonce was spotted on her way to her private jet in MIA the other day after taking a dip in the ocean:

And Kelly Rowland has said some interesting words about her second mother Tina Knowles. Kelly says it was had for her to accept her brown skinned-ness and never thought she was pretty because of it. Then Tina Knowles sat her down one day to give her some self esteem. She tells Heat magazine:
“There’s so much peer pressure, growing up I had an identity crisis – I went to a school that was predominantly white and I was the only black girl.
“I remember thinking, ‘I don’t want to be as dark as I am, I want to be a little fairer. I didn’t want to be me.”
“[Tina] sat me in front of the mirror and said, ‘Girl, look at how pretty you are’. She made me feel comfortable in my own skin,” Knowles revealed.
“When I got older, I embraced who I am as a woman. I look in the mirror and I’m like, ‘I like Kelly. Kelly’s not so bad.’
“I think that it’s important to instill that in our girls, to know that they posses something special and that everybody’s not supposed to be the same.”

It’s sad but many young dark-skinned girls struggle with their beauty. I remember growing up, it was taboo to stay out in the sun…as if, to get darker was a sin. Big lip. Broad noses. (I remember I use sit in the mirror as a little girl, pulling in my big lips…wishing they were thinner because the boys loved to call me ‘bumper lips’…it’s okay, you can laugh. But today, that’s one of the first things they compliment) Let’s face it, still day concempt that lighter is better still poisons many communities…not just in the US, but all over. Bleaching has been the sacrifice in some. Anything that connects us with our African heritage is in question.
Kelly is a beautiful woman, with skin that glows. Big up to Mama Knowles for taking the time open Kelly’s eye…I’ve had to do it with my niece. Not because she was dark (she’s actually quite light) but because she saw herself as ugly because she didn’t have long flowing hair like this girl in her class. Can you believe my niece was 6. Yes, at 6 they are already questioning their beauty.

Beyonce has a crazy shoe game. She doesn’t look that off to me, especially being that she just got out of the water and that’s why her hair is like that And not to mention she actually has some work to tend to. Unlike other singers who can get glammed up walking to the car, because all they did the entire day was get dressed up, to go out. That’s it no rehearsals, no appearances, just put on a jacket, and some heels.

My boyfriend is African (born and raised) and I had to put him in his place once in regards to darker skin when he complained that he was getting too dark due to the sun. So, I’m not sure if being from Africa automatically makes you safe.

I understand what Kells is saying, but my dad and his friends used to call me pretty black when I was a kid… and strangers used to tell me I was pretty and give me money, even though, I got caught taking money from this lady by my house and my moms beat the living shit outta me for it (lesson learned)
But I didn’t experience racism until I started working in San Francisco.. It was mainly white chicks though, so I just assumed that they were extremely intimidated, because I would catch them staring at me as if I was a movie star…just a thought..could be intimidation on their part~

Again I ask do you have the adoption records, were you in the house with them? I mean how are you going to attack people based on their views like you sat down with a lawyer and was in the house with the Knowles. If Kelly’s mom thought the man was using his daughter, she would have stood up against it. Kelly would have moved out of the house. You act like he had her by her arms tied down there to stay. People just make this sitaution out to be more than it is, painting someone as a victim who benefitied off of Matthew and Tina’s hard work regardless of how he was, without Matthew she wouldn’t have been in D.C and skyrocketed to fame. So no matter how much people villanize him, he apparently wasn’t all that evil, if the mother let her stay with him. Kelly’s mother also appeared in a magazine side by side with Tina. So…I doubt there’s any bad blood there. People need to stop with the b/s like you were there.

Sorry but Beyonce is killing me, and NOT in a good way. She needs to learn how to dress or buy some causal clothing. Maybe she needs to shop her own Dereon clothing line to look presentable. I don’t get the jacket with the shorts. One thing I do like is the shoes and that is about it…so moving on next

Kelly Ro. is a beautiful woman, period. I wouldn’t matter if she is dark or fair skin. I’ am so sick and tired of this debate. Black people come in all shades from fair to ebony and guess what IT IS ALL BEAUTIFUL. That is what makes our race so strong and beautiful because of the variety we offer with our genetic traits, no other race can say that! That is why we are the most copied and the media try to steal our key traits and features to market them in their own way to sell. It is time for US to realize how beautiful we are, and stop waiting for the media to address it because their not. It all starts from our environment and our childhood. We need to tell our kids they are beautiful it doesn’t matter if you look like this or that. Skin color doesn’t make you beautiful but the way you carry yourself and the confidence you project, skin color has nothing to do with it, point, blank period. Trust me, I am light skin(you can tell the master was creeping in my family…hehe) and due to popular belief the grass is not always greener on the other side. Black women no matte what you complexion have the same problems and issues, because we are women.

I completely understand where Kelly is coming from….we are around the same complexion & I always wanted to be lighter or even spanish with nice silky hair. I was never told I was ugly, but when I reached H.S. all the boys were so into the light skin girl or spanish & I always thought something was wrong with me because I was dark skin…but once I hit 10th grade some reason the boys starting lining up!!!! But it wasnt until my senior year that I accepted I was just as beautiful as these light skin bitches & there are so many things that make me special beyong my skin tone & hair…I didn’t need guys to like me to know that!….Okay I’m done w/ that!!!

Sorry, but that makes no sense at all. All the mom would need to do is sign a consent form giving the knowles right to make sudden decisions,(eventhough, I would NEED to know EVERYTHANG that goes down with my child) not give your child away. I’m around Kelly’s complexion and I’ve gotten that whole you’re cute for a dark skin girl. Like screw you, you’re just plain ugly any way it goes. Back handed compliments. When I was growing up, it was never really my complexion. My mother called me her beautiful chocolate baby. I was comfortable with my skin except the acne hasn’t exactly cleared up and I’m 26. I did use to want long hair so that I could swing it like the white girls. Now I have it and wanna cut it off cause its too damn hot. I got picked on because of my ears. Got the Will Smith, Martin, Barack Obama thing going on. Thats what I use to want to change the most. Now I love them because I’m unique

Interesting and true… Let me share my story> my younger sis and I have different complexions; I’m lighter than she is. My dad’s side of the family is the darker side and I have an Aunt on his side who dislikes me because of that and use to tell me “your sister’s prettier than you she has a nicer complexion nice and dark like my daughter; you’re too light you look too much like your mom that’s not from our side”. LOL! (Funny now hurtful then) My Point is Love yourselves unconditionally no one else can love you like and you can. Ladies Black is Truly Beautiful no matter what the complexion.

Seriously, our people have such messed up mentalities. My skin is light and I think women of all shades are beautiful. Kelly is fucking gorgeous and it shouldn’t have taken Tina to tell her that for her to finally realize it. But I guess growing up in a house with all light skin women didn’t help her self esteem either. Self hatred in the black community is a serious issue. Our men don’t help at all because it seems as though they favor women with light skin and long hair, which BTW does not mean you’re cute. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but it definitely starts with loving yourself.

I’m from the islands where most people are either brown or dark skinned. It was never an issue with me growing up! I always knew I was cute and the bomb back in the island! When I came to the states I was told that I was pretty for a brown skin girl and if my hair was real because it was long. My jaw droped from all of these stupid ass slave comments. It’s not your skin tone that makes you pretty, it’s your facial features and the way you treat others. Some of the prettiest people I know aint shit when you get to know them! they are horrible on the inside. Skin complexion is not a big deal people. Kelly is a pretty ass woman! end of story!

I can understand part of your point b/c it’s not rare to see beautiful dark skin. However, although people may not directly say beautiful light skin, black culture celebrates light skin as the default for beauty. Hence all the songs that reference light skinned black women and how we hardly see dark skinned black women as a representation of black beauty. So people saying beautiful dark skin is usually to make note of the fact that there are people with beautiful dark skin, and beautiful skin does not always mean light skin. It’s more about including dark skinned black women in the definition of beauty as opposed to excluding lighter skinned black women who are already included in that definition for many people.
