Brandy DROPPED From Label!
Brandy has reportedly been dropped by her label Epic Records, according to Black Voices. And their reason was that her album sales for her comeback album Human were piss poor. The album was released in December and has only sold 196,509 units to date according to SoundScan. And thanks to the recession, nobody’s trying to roll with those types of numbers.
It’s also being reported that Brandy has split from her management team at Roc Nation. They split due to “creative differences.” I hope that wig line she’s the face of is bringing in some change…
UPDATE: Brandy is claiming it’s not true that she was dropped. We posted this story based on a typically very credible journalist source ( who we linked in this article) who broke the story themselves. I do know one is known to have lied before. Just sayin’…

Yall must realize, Brandy is still getting paid off of moesha and the parkers. Some of yall must not have read the article she did for vibe years ago. she gets a percentage of the parkers, thats how countess was able to get out of her contract from moesha. Oh Brandys mom was making sure her daughters future earnings was correct. And just because a person is not in the spotlight like they was before dont equate to them not having money. Wow! Brandy is my favorite artist and I’m hurt to hear that.I agree her voice is like crack. She’s super talented and I’m not worried for her. She’s Brandy and I’m sure she’s still spending old money. People forget that she opened doors for a lot of these so called singers out today. Her and Monica. I thought Human was a great album. No it wasn’t like Full Moon or Never say Never but it was good. I wish her the best. She’s truly one of the good ones.

oh yeah ive been a fan of Brandys since the show thea, but that last cd “Human” was pure garbage to me and i didnt purchase it. I have all of her previous cds too and i still listen to them. the songs that was leaked on the internet was so much better than the material on her cd. Brandy was apologizing too much because of that accident, and she just shouldve went in the studio and did her, which in my opinion she didnt.

it’s amazing how manipulative and exploitative these record companies are they encourage artists to abandon their core audience and sound because that’s not commercially appealing. they also fail to promote their artists with a multi-pronged advertising campaign, like interviews, magazine spreads, late night appearances and the like. and when album sales do not meet expectations in part because of the label half-hearted effort they drop the artists. collectively speaking, artists should ban together and implement some changes in the industry. too many artists end up drug addicted, poor, and alone after they’ve made their labels and managers millions. it’s sad and quite unfair

I love Brandy’s voice and music but I wasn’t in love with the Human album. And I’m sure that old money from her album sales (Remember “Never Say Never” sold a milli in a week!), Moesha, The Parkers and numerous campaigns (Covergirl, etc.) is still in her bank account. Brandy has done what most artists have failed to do–hold on to their musical integrity. The problem is that unless you’re dropping it like it’s hot or releasing fluff, meaningless booty-shaking singles (*cough* Beyonce *cough*) an artist is pretty much screwed in today’s market. Good luck to her anyway.

We should blame all of the other half-ass (that’s putting it kindly) “talents” in the industry for taking such obvious parts of what have made her popular and recycling it so often. You are so right!! I bought Kelly, Brandy, Fantasia, and few others cd. Because I knew it was going to be worth it. People like Ciara, Beyonce ( bought the first one, which was the best one), Rihanna, and a few others I will never waste my money on. I like cd’s where I can listen to it all the way through without skipping through songs. Surprisingly Keri’s cd is really nice. Most new artists cd isn’t that good. I should have known better because she is a songwriter. I actually bought her cd. True Story: when her song Energy came out I didn’t even want to give it a try. Jumping on the bandwagon of saying I’m not feeling it without even listening to the song. What I did was listen to some more of her random leaked songs on limewire and that’s when I realized that was quick to jump to conclusion. I went out and bought her latest cd and I’m happy. We ( mainly blacks) need to expand our horizon. I don’t even want to get on rap………..the lyrics nowadays are just ridiculous!!

@TEE-HEE I agree 100% with you. The great thing about these comments is that everyone had wise things to say about what’s going on in the music industry. I can’t remember the last good R&B album I’ve heard. No one’s hating on Ciara at all but honestly this years BET awards and her rendition of Heal the World kind of put her in a bad situation. Honestly none of these artist are that talented to me. Ciara can dance and should have never changed up her style. She said she wasn’t a Whitney Houston from the door and I respected that but she should have stayed Ciara. Sexy doesn’t work for her although I think she is a gorgeous girl.
Beyonce is a beautiful girl who is getting over on her looks because if you really think about it she isn’t any better than the rest of the girls out. Her grind is crazy but honestly listen to the lyrics in her music. It’s pop corn music. She’s a glamourized video girl. I was a hard core Beyonce fan would argue anyone down until I really started paying attention. She’s good but she’s not that great. Someone even said she’s the new Michael Jackson. It’s 3:23 pm. That person should be dead by now. She has a long way to go to get that kind of coverage and that tribute at the Essence Festival did not help at all.

I believe that I stated that Beyonce’s grind is crazy which means she’s a hard worker. I also stated that Ciara can dance and very well at that but her album sales speak volumnes. If they did bring artist development back I can bet my life on it that we would see more true talent out here and they all wouldn’t look like Beyonce or Ciara or Amerie. It would be because they had the skills such as a Fantasia, Jennifer Hudson or Jasmine Sullivan. I’m not knocking anybody. I’m just saying music needs to get back to what it use to be. I could really go without hearing songs like Halle Berry and You’re a Jerk.

But she does it well. It’s one thing to remake The Supremes/Shirelles/Martha and the Vandellas, or even aspire to be the Diana Ross of your time. It’s another to aspire to be the artist who is currently aspiring to be that already. I think we all know Beyonce is formulated. So isn’t it time for more performers (can’t call everyone an artist!) to strive to be original and separate themselves from the pack rather than ride the wave? Oh, my bad, maybe not. I disagree-Rihanna is on her 4th album and has always been consistant. She’s working on her album and I guarantee it will be a hit. She has mad producers making sure she shelves out at least 5 top 10 singles on the Billboard Charts. Record companies are like any other business. They are to reduce debt and make money for their stockholders. This not the 1950 or 1960’s when artists didn’t know anything about general business practices alot of former Motown acts didn’t become wealthy or even middle class. If an artists does not understand how record company work then that is their fault. Artisits have to learn about royalities, advances, marketing, management, percentage points.
The truth is some artists are just want the shallow, materical stuff they see in magazines and on BET. Love Brandy, but Human wasn’t a commercially viable album. It’s one thing to go left of radio, but it has to be hot and “Right Here(Departed)” wasn’t that. “Long Distance” was too 90’s pop ballad-esq. That type of sound is not in right now. She can still be current and ho without doing what everyone else does. I firmly believe that. Look at Full Moon. A very hot album, that got her her last top ten hit and could’ve really had legs in 02 if she didn’t have to stop promo for the birth of her daughter. Judging from the producers lined up for album six, it seems like she’s getting back to her old self. She’s going to need a label that’s behind her music as well though. Brandy is new to this generation in terms of being a superstar. Her last super smash album was in 98. These kids today need to be reintroduced to her. IMO, she has to stop lipping her performances too. Brandy can sing and kills studio recordings. If she wants the respect of being a great vocalist in this generation she’s got to do it without the extra shit. She’s not doing dance routines on stage so there is no reason for her to be lipping. She wont grow as a live singer(improving on notes, intonation, endurance, creativity,dynamics, etc…) if she doesn’t. Mariah Carey needs to lip because her voice is gone now. Brandy has no business doing it when she’s just standing on stage and singing. She’s got it in her. She’s just got to stop being scared.
As for Beyonce, she failed at the BET awards because of song choice. Nobody wanted to see her singing “Ava Maria” in some underwear-ish wedding dress when it was suppose to be about MJ? WTF? The girl can sing her ass off. Her music could use more work, but she’s got some great songs in the mix of her last three solo albums. Still no classic album though. She shut down the Grammys in 04 singing “Dangerously in Love”, shut down the the first dance with Pres. and Firs Lady Obama singing “At last” She’s more known for dancing and singing, but the chick can stand flat foot and blow too. She just has to do more of that as she continues to grow in order to balance out the respect in both areas. Nobody can sing and dance like her right now. She’s hyped because she’s considered the full package, with a great voice, looks and dance ability to a certain extent(she’s no Janet lol). As I said earlier, her music needs some work overall though. If she ever does a classic album, some people are going to kill themselves because it’s going to take her to another level, period lol.

Btw, Mariah cant sing live anymore. She blamed her aweful vocal performance at M.J’s memorial on emotions when Jermaine sang better than her.

Brandy is truly a great artist. She is not doing what Beyonce, Ciara, and RiRi are doing and that is selling their bodies. Out of the three mentioned, I think Beyonce has the most talent, and does not have to show her body and dance to sell, but Beyonce is smart and she knows how to sell music. You cannot be mad at her for knowing the game. Brandy has to try something differnet. Not selling her body, but she has to do something to make herself known in today’s music. She can sing, but she has to do something else. It is sad that the music business is that way now, but if you want to sell you have got to do it. Look at Janet, she is an ION, but she was dropped as well. Why, because she was trying to do it the same way that she has been doing it and the music scene has changed since the 90’s. That goes for Monica as well. Voice alone will not get you where you need to be. You have to put something extra with it. Like mentioned by other people, Brandy has plenty of money and she is not worried about nothing, but if music is where she feels she belongs, she has got to get on her grind. Be in that studio night and day. I have Human and like it, however, out of all of her CD’s, I can say this was not my favorite. If she does something like FullMoon, she will be an instant hit again. I always wonder how big that album would have been if she did not have to stop promo to have her daughter (she song live performances then and was on point).
Last but not least, if everyone on here that is supporting Brandy and saying what a great artist she is would have ACTUALLY purchased her CD instead of downloading it, she would have more sales. That is the BIGGEST problem with music right now. People have the CD, but they did not buy it. We hurt the artist and cause the artist to get dropped. It is not the label’s fault, it is ours because we cheat the artist. Please support these artist and buy their CD’s. This is the prime example why Brandy has to do something a little more than just sang, because people are not going to buy your CD if you do not. They will just download it and say it was good, but she does not get the money for it.

Dont know what you are talking about but Bey did a very good tribute at Essence! She should have done that at the BET awards….
My thing is, why are yall talking about other artist? Either you’re selling or you’re not, thats just business! Bey is selling, Ciara not so much the last go round but she isnt a vocalist so she doesn’t really count. So to all the Brandy fans, if yall would go out to support her projects, this would not have happened. Leave other artist out of it!!

Its a wrap! Sorry to all you Brandy fans. She was good during her time but her time has come and gone. Oh and also to all Brandy fans, if it will make you feel any better, alot of other rnb chicks that came out around the same time as Brandy or slightly before her they don’t stand a chance either. This music game is a BEAST. You have to be on the grind 24 hours a day (and wait on being a mommy, baby momma and wife) until you have the music game in a choke hole.

I would never ever say that brandy abandoned her fans. shes knows da importance of her fans, shes always said she loves her stars because without her stars she cant shine. And shes always refered to her musical efforts these days as have purpose..because she has a responsibility to make good music..
She worked hard on Moesha, and her albums at the same time.. so where u going wid this abandon fans for years. Watch when beyonces decides to have a couple of kids and u dont hear her for while is that the attitude u gon take? Brandy has had a kid, and everything on beyonce was put in a group and easily outshined that group. So it was easy to spot da gem..(stil got love for kelly and michelle)
But i know dat bran gon get her way in the end.. never stop making music..Vocals..are SMH a REAL SUMTHIN she can do anyhing with the right promotion, which she never got this time round.. no posters, no tv adds no proper exposure for her comeback. KEEP FIGHTIN BRANDY
