And speaking of Good Morning America, Joe Jackson is doing his first sit down interview since Michael’s death tomorrow on GMA. The interview was already taped and here’s a snippet he said about Michael’s kids’ possible future in entertainment. We kid you not:
“I don’t know — I keep watching Paris,” he said, referring to Jackson’s middle child, who spoke memorably at her father’s memorial on Tuesday. “She … wants to do something. And as far as I can see, well, they say Blanket [Michael's youngest child, Prince Michael II], he can really dance.”

As a black woman, I can understand how our culture usually condones whipping our children into shape.
Personally, I tried it a couple times…and I’m not a fan.
However, whipping children can have some severely drastic effects on a child.
It’s a lot of black kids today that are emotionally scarred by whippins as children…
A lot of us laugh about it and shrug it off…others turn into black men who bleach their skin to a pasty lily whit hue and call white kids their own :(

This is just from a personal expreience: I havent talked to one of my cousins in years… actually a lot of my family hadnt because of somethings that happened a while back. When my cousin passed away out of no where, it hurt us all. Some of us were close and others werent as close to him.n It hurt me because 1) that was still my family, regardless of what we have been through. 2) I felt so guilty for not talking to him for about 3 years. Im sure its ten times worse when its a sibling. I know Tito hadnt talked to Michael in years becuase of a reunion tour a couple years back. I can only imagine how horrible he may have felt that he hadnt spoken to his brother. I know Michael was close with Jermaine, Janet, Marlon, and Rebbie; Im not sure about the others. In the obituary a vast majority of his nieces and nephews wrote some things that would make you believe they were close to him. Death is normally a time when the immediate family comes together (notice I said normally bc sometimes it doesnt happen that way). Thats how I feel

This was my theory on that:
I DO believe he had the skin condition. However, I beleive he bleached his skin in an effort to make his skin tone even. His image is a huge part of his career and on top of that, he was already unhappy with his appreance. I think his skin changing colors added to his low self esteem and he felt he had to get his skin bleached to hide the skin discoloration. I say he had it bc his skin had no pigmentation to it. It was pale. Thats just my opinion on it

Michael had a combnination of Vitiligo and Lupus. When over 50% of your body is affected (as in Michael’s case) depigmentation is the only other option besides him having to wear full body makeup at all times. It was not a QUICK progression for him. He tried during the Off the Wall and Thriller eras to match the make-up on his face with the darker pigmentations. He had a severe case; which can be exacerbated by stress. Coupled with Lupus, he did not have just a “spotting” effect that a lot of Vitiligo sufferers get. Go to utube and search in Dr. Arnie Klein on Larry King Live and you will hear him describe the severity of Michael’s condition. He didn’t just wake up one day and say “Heh, I think I’ll bleach my skin.” Too much of his darker pigment was already loss to use other treatment methods. This was already proven during the child molestation trial. Why people still question it is beyond me.

I don’t get this “Joe beating thing” Michael said they were whipped with belts and switches, that is not a beating as far as I’m concerned. A plastic bat and extension cards are what i call beatings, trust and believe that!! i think he just wanted his boys to not be on the street, if you have five boys in the house hold what are they going to do to catch whipping umm EVERYTHING!!!. i agree he probally should have let them do some childish things when they were kids but i believe if he wasn’t hard on them, they wouldn’t be The Jackson 5 that they are today. His parents are seperated. I do not think his family is close at all. Marlon said he found out about MJ death through his daughter who saw it on the news and he was rumored to have been working @ a supermarket. We all know Latoya threw her family under the bus as well with her book (under influence of an abusive ex-hub).Jermaine and Randy got kids by the same woman (Jermaine crept with her, while Randy was dating her and wounded up marrying and divorcing her). I am also sure they all had to be jealous of Mike and his success as well after leaving the J5 and not wanting to do that reunion tour. LOL…..I know. Everybody ain’t have makeup artists like he did and couldn’t afford his procedures. Which was to balance the skin’s complexion. I’m just THANKFUL I don’t have that because I wouldn’t make it. They don’t even have a pigment once that stuff gets bad and can easily get skin cancer. Listen everyBODY and every FAMILY got issues. The only difference is that this family’s issues were all up on front street. Mike did not bleach his skin to become white he bleached to become one uniform color he did have vitiligo and he wanted to not be two toned his dermatologist even said he just wanted to be an even tone and the only way to do that was to go light. I agree with you. People really need a reality check if they rationalize what Joe did to those boys by saying Mike wouldn’t be who he is today. How do you know that? How do you know that a little love and kindess would have not gotten the same results. There is no excuse for abuse none what so ever! And the fact that he is publicly letting everyone know he only cares about his next meat ticket should be clear that he was and still is a monster! Period point, blank! From five years old Mike has been an entertainer no real childhood at all he does not have the childhood memories we are able to recall and laugh about. This 80 year old, broken down, greedy devil needs to be kept as far away from the children as possible. This devil sexually assualted his own daughters Reba and Latoya (explains why she is so strange) and maybe even Janet. The only good thing about Joe is he is 80 years old so hopefully nature will take its course. My parents tell me Sammy Davis Jr. was the greatest entertainer who ever lived and he was raised by a loving, kind father who invited him into showbusiness. I’ve seen the white marks that Michael had in the beginning stages of his vitiligo and I just think that since he had the money he went and got some type of procedure done to speed up the process since he was going to lose his color anyway and I read in an article that they used to put makeup on his marks so it would blend in with his skin but he got tired of that.

I can tell that you may not know what a “beating” REALLY is. First of all, Michael demonstrated actions of an adult who definately was abused or traumatized as a child. Michael would get anxious and nauseated when Joe Jackson came around. Michael would puke from the anxiety and the nervousness. Unless you were a victim of some kind of abuse you wont feel that way at the sight of someone.
I believe Michael because look at how Joe still acts…and he has no shame. I saw an interview with Joe where they asked Joe about beating the kids with sticks and Micheal regurgitating at the sight of Joe because Michael was soooo afraid of Joe. Joe said, “I whipped them but not with sticks. And I dont remember Michael ever regurgitating. And if he did, he regurgitated all the way to the bank.” WTF?!
And if they were only whipped with belts and switches doesnt mean that they werent BEAT. “Plastic bats and extension cords” are not the only objects that can deliver a beating. Joe Jackson could have been hitting them in their backs, chests, face, or head–all vital body parts. They could have sustained serious bruising from the “belts and switches” even if it was on non-vital body parts like the butt or legs. Joe could have been using ALL his MANLY force and strength behind every blow to deliver a strong hit. You dont know the definition of a beating.
And Michael and the entire Jackson family could have still been famous and the greatest entertainer without being beat because they have talent. Michael was “strange” because of what Joe did to him…and I dont fault Michael at all.

Joe and Katherine are separated; they have been for several years. Joe lives in Las Vegas. He will not have anything to do with the kids. Michael stated his wishes in his will if his mother can’t/doesn’t want custody the kids are to go to Diana Ross. Diana Ross made it known through her publicist she will honor Michael’s request. Neverland goes to Michael’s estate,kids and mother( the executives of the estates makes the decision not Katherine) so if Neverland is turn to a museum ala Graceland or is sold the estate, kids and katherine get the money.

You are dead wrong. Michael has said in an interview w/ Martin Bashir that Joe would throw him up against a wall as hard as possible when he was young. He also said that Joe would beat him with anything that was nearby; not just a beat or cord, but ANYTHING and EVERYTHING. As someone has already said, it was wasn’t just physical abuse but verbal abuse too. There are plently of interviews where he talks about both.

She wrote a tell all book about the Jacksons. Her most explosive claim was that Joe Jackson sexually abused all the girls, which I’m inclined to believe. Later on during the first MJ molestation accusation she said publicly that Michael did it and that he was a child molester. She later tried to take back the claim, saying that she was under the spell and drugs of her ex-husband. But the damage had been done already.
I’m so tired of Black folk justifying beating or getting beatings with belts, cords, switches, broom handles, the cord from the iron and god only knows what else. This is not a healthy form of discipline and just because you or I “turned out alright”, that doesn’t mean a damn thing. No child should be subjected to a blow on the back with a belt, or bleeding welt marks from a switch, or raised knots and bruises from being hit with wooden objects. These types are never issued as a way to teach a lesson. They are always issued in anger, frustration, and lack of self control.

I heard most of the things in her book were fabricated though..and that sexual abuse thing was a lie. Rebbie quickly shut that down and thought Latoya’s ex husband wrote the whole book…what kinda madness!!! Now Michael has a book…i didn’t know this until yesterday it’s called “Moonwalk” and it came out in 85..i looked on amazon to see how much it was and its being sold for $185 or some shit….umm…Im sure it’s an interesting read tho! a lot of you are forgetting that Joe was by Michael’s side through all of his trials and tribulations, right by his side! I don’t think people understand that Joe saw a light in Michael a shining light, and though his tactics may have been wrong or even questionable, he knew that one son in particular could be something the world had never seen. He LOVED Michael, people often say you push the ones you love and see the most potential in the hardest. I know Joe can come off as a complete fool, but he is in pain I’m sure, and my heart goes out to him, it really does.

I think the culture has changed today RE: beatings. In the old days, it was widely accepted but today with all the child abuse (physical), it’s really hard to know who is disciplining their kids and who is abusing. And kids have become very soft nowadays. And they have too many rights.
In the case of MJ, I do believe Joe went a bit too far with him. He embarrassed him in public and humiliated him in front of others. MJ being as sensitive as he was, it really affected him.
Today, if you raise your kids well, all you need to do is give them the “look”, and they’ll know you mean business.
