Yeah from what I’ve seen, most people have a problem with her tone. But that isn’t something she can change. She was born with that voice.
I think it works for her, anyway. It sets her apart from other females that have the same old generic R&B voice. She uses it to her advantage most of the time, although I do agree that she sounds a mess on “Run This Town.” But listen to songs like “Take a Bow,” “Hate That I Love You” or even that new leak “Te Amo,” she sounds good and improves with each CD.

A lot of people today prefer garbage over real talent. They’d rather hear a simple melody and repetitive lyrics over real music.
At the end of the day, Rihanna still cannot sing, she can’t dance, and she has no real stage presence. She is a pretty puppet and will be forgettable in 10 years.

There are tons of people who can sing better than every artist in the music game(except for gospel and some soul and jazz artist). But they’re not selling millions of records. It takes more than just a great voice. There are a lot of things that factor in. Everyone knows that most of the time talent is only 10% of the equation. There are tons of girls who can sing better than Beyonce, but she has that “it” factor and Rihanna has hers.
I’ve never bought a Rihanna album and probably never will but I’ve always been impressed by the music facts about her and her swag.

How many Whitney Houstons or Celine Dions are walking around? Not many.

I think she has talent, but she is so pretty that no one is really pushing her to improve her vocals. She is the quintessential pop star: a pretty girl with vocal ability, that producers and stylists can mold into the image they see fit. Her stage presence and singing style haven’t evolved AT ALL since she debuted(and no, getting different tracks and hotter producers doesn’t count!). The only thing that really changed is her look. She is on top of the world right now so I think it’ll be very difficult for her to get better. At this point she probably doesn’t think she needs to get better. When you hear a song, you know right away that is rihanna, like you do with Mary J blige. First off I KNOW something is going down with Jay and Rihanna. Too many rumors for too damn long. In the song she’s talking about a “dangerous love affair” and he’s like “we are, yea i said it we are”. They are runnin all over the world together and Beyonce is nowhere to be found. Beyonce should not be held accountable for stuff that her peeps say or do. I am one of Beyonce’s biggest fans, but i have to tell her Cousin/mngr that unless he’s been living under a rock for the past 2 decades, these days having a nice voice is not what sales are makes you popular. Fortunately for Beyonce, she has the full package…. nice voice, beautiful, and entertaining. but what makes Rhianna popular is her uniqueness….and unfortunately her recent issue with chris brown. Cassie is just talentless, and straight up boring, i think she could shave her whole head bald, and no one would take notice or even care. she shaves half her head, leaks a pic of her naked tits, and people lost interest a day after it happened….she needs to stop trying so hard.

if i’m reading this correctly, are you implying that Rihanna’s looks and style should be more important than talent? hopefully you aren’t, but if you are, that pretty much sums up my issues with music today. music evolves, style evolves, “what’s hot” and “what’s not” changes daily. talent does not change. either you have it or you don’t. and God created us all differently, so some people’s gifts are different than others.
maybe Rihanna has the gift of singing…..but from what I’ve heard from her so far, I personally don’t hear it. Our culture has begun to value perception and “surfaceness” over depth in all areas, and its apparent in music today. A pretty face, big a$$, tits & hips are valued more than talent. marketability is now the crown jewel, not actual talent.
Alot of folx have equated album sales and money with talent; this is but another example of surfaceness (made the word up) vs. substance. I can think of several EXCEPTIONALLY talented artists who do not have the album sales of Rihanna or Beyonce, but this does not diminish their talent or gift in the least……..
I wish the young lady the best in her career.
