It was so terrible the way she and everyone else on that plane died. All I kept thinking about was how i couldn’t imagine my reaction to seeing my own inevitable death. Just terrible.

Aaliyah was my everything at 10yrs old. Everything about her inspired me. I even started taking tap and jazz in hopes that I would be able to be just as graceful as she was in dancing. So that day when the news flashed across MTVnews that she had passed away, I went to my room and cried into my pillow. I never knew the effects of death until then.

Aaliyah wasn’t a great singer just a great dancer. If she was still alive she might wouldn’t be that popular now. Or she would be just like Ciara a great dancer but not a singer. Her record sells wasn’t that great. So, she was just popular in the urban world but not overseas or nothing like that.
I liked Aaliyah but what I find funny is people would say what she did is in the past and we don’t have any right to judge her and I totally agree with that.

Aaliyah was such a beautiful, talented, humble, and classy entertainer (act, dance, sing). In my opinion, she had a lovely voice; it was sweet and had a nice flow. Let Me Know really showcases those vocals for all the people that said she couldn’t sing, PLEASE. I loved the way she was sexy, but kept her dress and style with something to be left to the imagination. I was so sad to hear the news that day. I was jammin’ to her CD that morning and someone told me a few hours later that she had died. Def a life gone too soon, but only God knows our path.

I remember like it was yesterday, I had just gotten in the car and an Aaliyah song was on then another and another and I was like WTF is going on. You know when a radio station plays an artists song back to back something usually has happened. So finally they came in and said she had been killed in a plane accident. Why are y’all comparing Beyonce to Aaliyah. If you know anything about the music game back then, you’d know that Aaliyah came from the era withe Brandy and Monica when they didn’t put out album ever year or even every other year like Beyonce has done. At her death, she’d just put out her third album. Beyonce’s stayed in by using both the group and solo albums. In 2001, things were exploding for Aaliyah, she had released a great album(Aaliyah is a classic!) and she had major movie deals in the works. Beyonce was just beginning her campaign to become a household name. Beyonce has a stronger voice but that doesn’t automatically make you a better artist. Aaliyah had better songs and lyrics if you really want to compare. I was huge fan of both and it’s not comparison in the lyrics department. Aaliyah had already had successful albums, soundtrack singles and was on her way to the next step of super stardom.
I used to be a Beyonce over the top fan years ago and I wouldn’t say that. I really don’t like the music she makes now. You can’t compare a lo of their music. Plus, Aaliyah never had to show any skin to get noticed. She was a beautiful tomboy and people still dug her and her music. Don’t compare them.

As far as Dame and Jay-Z. Just like everything else, y’all believe rumors. Jay and Aaliyah were good friends and yet you act like you have legitimate proof to claim otherwise. Stop trying to live vicariously through other people’s lives. It’s not that serious. And you’re being incredibly disrespectful to bring old rumors up.
The point is, Aaliyah was a beautiful and talented artist who kept her private life private.

I remember I had just started my sophomore year in college. That semester was hard for me to get through because I thought of her constantly. It didn’t make since to me. It was then I knew how people felt about Elvis and others who passed but she was so young.

Actually that is not 100% truthful. Yes, she was more known in the urban community and her first couple of cds were not as commercially successful but it was clear she was coming into her own commercially. Her last cd was a commercial success and that was before her passing. She paid her dues and was coming into her own when tragedy struck.
I said it then and I will say it now, Aaliyah unfortunate passing was Beyonce’s blessing.

That’s a lie. She was not just an urban phenom. There was nothing hood about her. I went to school in the suburbs and white and black people knew about her. She had sold over 25mil records, she was a model for Tommy Hill, and did other stuff. One In Million was a successful album and Aaliyah was critically acclaimed from the minute it came out. She left a void in the music game when she passed. Girls groups and solo artist tried to jock her style when they came out but they could never pull it off. You can’t compare Ciara to her even though Ciara can move, her dances have always been raunchy. Aaliyah was never that, and had tremendous skill.

Aaliyah performed at my sister’s grad night at Disney World in 1997. I wanted to go so bad but couldn’t cause I was just a freshman and my sis didn’t want me tagging. I always wish I could have gone. Destiny’s Child and Jessica Simpson were at mine in 2000. Wish I could have traded(even though I was a big DC fan at the time, I still would have traded).

I miss Alliyah followed her from Age Aint Noting ButA # Remix w/ R.Kelly. She did star in “Queen of the Dame”, friend close said on TV interview she would sit in a darkroom pitch dark. I only pray I soul is in heaven for the role she played in Anne Rice movie was very evil and role play gets alot of people caught up. JUST SAYING….

She was such a trendsetter. So timeless! I was truly a fan/stan whatever. I wanted to dress like her, wear my hair like her, dance like her. I felt like I lost my BFF and my rolemodel when she left us. A lot of her videos could have been put out today and you would never know they were from 10 years ago. Damn I miss that girl!

He is uncannily cute (like that model cute Tyra be talking about on ANTM) and he exudes charisma and sexiness so I understand why Bey is and was intially attracted to him. Really doesn’t seem like it’s been 8 years. I still jam to Aaliyah’s music. I miss hearing good r&b music like hers. Her dance moves were effortless and smooth. She was definitely a triple threat, singing, dancing and acting. I believe if she was still alive she would be huge because her personality was so charming, humble AND she was beautiful!

8 years? Wow, how time flies. I remember the day when I heard the news of her death. I cried and cried. I felt sad because she was very talented and also I connected with her music. Her spirit was always one in interviews that seemed guinuine and carefree yet loving and sweet. Not only was she a singer, she was an aspiring actress and an incredible dancer. Her songs are priceless and classic. When they come on now in 2009 I still rock and even know all of the words. Baby girl, you are truly one in a million, a rare gem and the world would be hot if you were still here! I love ya and miss ya!

I Miss her!!! RIP Liyah. I remember when there was a rumor that a certain someone wanted to remake her “One in a Million,” song and a lot of people were angry about that and saying she better not do it. i was one of them that agreed. When I hear Aaliyah’s song(s), I don’t want to say “oh yeah, so and so remade that song.” I want it to stay Aaliyah’s only. I think everyone knows who i’m talikng about. I miss Aaliyah so much and her legacy will always be remembered.Though I was young when she stepped on the scene and died but I lover her and her work.She was an amazing dancer,brilliant actress and a great singer too bad she dies in the peak of her career.There is this artist I think her name Kiely Williams from 3LW or The Cheetah Girls,every time I see her I think of Aaliyah.She can dance her butt off,sing and act.She could be the next big thing and it would be great if she got signed with Timberland too(seeing Adrienne signed with Def Jam but I’m looking forward to Kiely’s projects more than Adrienne as she seems more real and talks like an educate young woman,anyway i talk too much.R.I.P Aaliyah
