I usually don’t post comments but I felt the need to say something. I am so sick of people criticizing Alicia. Swizz was the married man and no one here is a official on their relationship. It is very possible that the marriage b/t Swizz and Mashonda was on the rocks and they were already separated. If you don’t know the whole situation, I think it is unfair to call Alicia a slut and a home wrecker.
I don’t know how you ppl judge her when there are REGULAR ppl who do this on a daily basis. I have chronically seen ppl separated from their spouse and they are in another relationship(for years), especially in the black community. You guys, I think there is something missing here. There will forever be other women out there – FOREVER. The “husbands” are letting these women in their home. HE not her leaves his house to be with other women….. HE disrepects his wife. sometimes one party is ready to move on and the other isn’t. you can’t sit around and be miserable because somebody else doesn’t want to let go. if you have it in your mind that your relationship is over and you don’t WANT to work it out then the rest of it is just legal. you do the best you can to help your children adapt to the new living situation and you just work on trying to be happy again. I tried “working it out” with my husband for two years before we got divorced. I dropped to 105 lbs (i’m 5′3″ and NOT a small framed person) worrying myself with our relationship. when it i decided i couldn’t take it anymore he still wouldn’t sign the papers. you best believe i moved on…with him calling and writing and everything. same promises and lies he’d told for 2 years. so the man i was dating before the ink dried did NOT wreck our home. it was already done. it might be the same for swizz. You can’t judge from the outside people.

some of you on here obviously have no idea what getting a divorce entails. unless you have an iron clad pre-nup like usher did, divorces can take forever. case in point, i separated from my ex in june 2008. we filed for divorce in february 2009 and the paperwork was signed in april, however, he now has to WAIT on the lawyer to set a court date to go before the judge to have him sign off on it “officially”. however, both he and i have moved on and no one gives a damn. we knew the minute that i left the house that we were over so it was time to move on. in other instances some people who know they were the cause of the divorce in the first place will hold out and not sign the papers just to be spiteful b/c they do not want the other person to be happy… but as someone said, ish happens and some of you need to stop placing blame and just take it for what it is… LIFE… and no one can wreck a home. if your root foundation is strong no man or woman can come b/t what you have… i don’t care how much game they have…

I agree that Swizz is the one primarily responsible–he was the one who was married. But I also think that EVERYONE should respect the INSTITUTION of marriage, whether they are part of a marriage or not. It wasn’t Alicia’s job to keep them together; and I agree that she couldn’t somehow “wreck” their home–Swizz and Mashonda were responsible for keeping their home together. But it was Alicia’s job to stay away from the man until he was free. If things were bad between them, he should have just left, and Alicia could have been with him once he was completely gone. How hard is that?
I know this makes me old fashioned. But this is part of why marriages used to last–because married people respected their own marriages, and the community respected them too. When people don’t respect marriage–their own or anyone else’s–they fall apart. I just hope Alicia doesn’t expect any better from her relationship with this male.

My real hair is longer than Alicia Keys, and both my parents are black. Yall know that even her braids were weave. My Boo video was the only time we’ve seen Alicia’s real hair, and it was about shoulder-length. Alicia straightens her hair. Yall saw how bushy her hair was in one of her early videos. She had it half loose and half braided. It was the same texture as mine. Alicia like most women in Hollywood wear weaves, wigs and other hairpieces, regardless of race. Even Mariah Carey has a weave. All those white stars like Angelina Jolie, Jessica Simpson and on and on got weaves. Black women don’t have to sleep in scarves if you get you a satin or silk pillow case it protects your hair. If you get a blow dry or a roller set, sleeping on a satin or silk pillow case will keep your hair from drying out and in place. Try it.

You need to calm down. It’s funny how you didn’t have anything to say to the person that said that Alicia don’t need a scarf to sleep in because she’s half white. I was dispelling the myth that just because she’s half white it don’t mean that she doesn’t wear fake hair most of the time. I didn’t got into the whole debate but even white and other women straighten their hair with the use of blow dryers, flat irons and even perms sometimes. Most white people and others have some kind of curl pattern to their hair if they don’t apply heat and sometimes chemicals to straighten the hair as well. She is getting criticized because the behavior that has been blasted to us does not align with the image that her label and/or herself seems to portray. And that is the only reason. It is also the same reason why her fans/stans and other people defend her.
The conflict is that… someone of Alicia’s caliber, who has been placed on this pedestal as the example of what a “real” musician should be in a time where Cassie’s, Rihanna’s, and Beyonce’s who do not write their own music, have images that are overtly over sexualized, and usually speak unintelligibly are saturating the mainstream media, should NOT be seen with a married and/or separated man.

How do you know Alicia writes all of her music by herself? I never heard anybody say that. James Brown accused her of using a lot of his melodies. I’ve seen Alicia shake her butt in a very short skirt when she’s performed Heartburn a few times. She’s stiff and not a dancer, so of course, she’s not going to do too many songs that require dancing. As far as her intelligence, she comes off okay, not like she’s a genius. But I could say that of most celebrities and people.

I’ve met Alicia on several occasions professionally and she’s neither conceited nor stuck up. She’s actually one of the more genuinely nice people I’ve ever met in the business. I’ve met Swizz AND Mashonda and both of them were professional, at the time Swizz seemed a little immature, but he was much younger. Alicia’s natural hair without a weave is past her shoulders and curly when wet, for those for whom that detail is important.

As far as who did who wrong, who the hell knows. I love the people judging who know none of the parties involved. Homewreckers male and female only come with the full consent of the married party.
As someone contemplating hooking up with a separated man, I can only go by what he tells me. If he’s lying about the marriage being over, he’s decieved me and his wife and we can only act on what we know when we know it. Why do the women always take the blame in these situations. How is Alicia the “homewrecker” when Swizz had the home?
I do know that black people do tend to go years living apart without officially divorcing, usually doing so only when someone wants to get remarried.

Mashonda said in several interviews that she had no idea her marriage was over.. she said they were happy. She found out thru credit card receipts that he had been spending a lot of money while he was out of the country. she did her investigating and found out that alicia was in the same cities and figured it out. Just because they are photographed with their then wives and have children doesn’t mean the people in the relationships are happy, their are people everyday who seemingly looks like they have a wonderful and happy marriage but they are sad and miserable, and secondly all the blame can’t go on the other women, put some of the BLAME ON THE MEN, BECAUSE IF THEY INVITED THE SITUATION IN THEIR LIVES AND FAMILY. LIKE SOMEONE SAID THESE MEN WAS THE CRACK IN THE FOUNDATION IN THEIR MARRIAGE.

Usher was never married before Tameka so how could she have done something similar with him he was single when he got with her what are you talking about? And as far as we know about this situation Mashonda most likely knows about these two may be happy for them and in a relationship herself sometimes divorce is a good thing and a release it doesn’t mean someone is always crying in a corner somewhere while someone else stole their soul mate a good amount of people separate MUTUALLY because there was nothing else left!!

IDK what the issue is here. I have been separated for almost a year and a half, marriage pretty much over a year before that, but there are kids and assets and divorce takes time. I have a new love and my ex (cause that is pretty much what he is) has been with someone for a year.
We don’t know what the status was between mashonda and Swizz and unless i hear that Alicia did some Angelina ish i’m happy for her

I heard that his divorce was finalized in April of this year. And I don’t think they are being discreet at all. They are always together, you just don’t see that many pics of them together at public events. But, I’ve seen at least 5 sets of pictures of them together over the last few weeks.
There are pics of them at J-Lo’s birthday party; those pics above; some new pics of them at some race track in France from a couple days ago; some other pics at some event that has to do with Niger that happened a few days ago; and then pics of them on the set of that video that she did with Alessandro Sanz. And as was already said, they always communicate with each other on Twitter, which I find a lil juvenile, but hey, it’s what they like to do.
I mean, the whole thing seems forced to me with how they are handling their relationship. But, A. Keys still is A. Keys. She’s never been the type that talks about her relationship, to the public. She’s also trained Swizz well when it comes to that, because in the beginning, her name was always in his mouth.

I’ve heard that before, and from men, at that. They say that if a woman is willing to lay down with them, then of course they are going to stray. So, yes, you can say that the wife was the one willing to put up with it; but the mistress was the one who made it available to him in the first place. If she had enough respect for herself, then none of it would’ve happened.
Women make things entirely too easy for men. And is the saying, “Good things happen to those who wait” make no sense?
Also, Swizz said he loved Alicia in that NY Daily News article, I believe, before he even filed for divorced. So, if that’s the case, then love her enough to get your current situation with your wife handled so that you can put your full attention on your new love. But, again, if the other chick is not requiring that, then I say more power to him.
This is why the man doesn’t get blamed because the women (both wife and mistress) have more power over the situation than they think.
And LOL and SMH @ the person who called his wife the “other chick”. I really want to see what these same people will say, if Swizz ends up doing the same thing to Alicia. Will she be bitter and need to get over it too? And will he and his new chick look as cute together also?

Backup , backup, backup! On the surface one may find it easy to class all these statements or opinions as ‘judgmental’, but guess what, it’s each and everyone’s on here ‘opinion’. No one is passing judgement on anyone. People are just discussing based on what they have read and incorporating it with their own personal take or view.
Principle is principle. At the end of the day , there is a right and a wrong way of doing things. It’s a pity we really don’t know how it all started , who moved on who first. But the fact still remains , Swiss WAS and still IS married and AK knew/ knows that. So are you saying to hell with the wife and roll on lust and unfaithfullness/ infidelity!
