Written by Natasha - Last updated: Thursday, October 1, 2009

Nia Long did “Chelsea Lately” last night promoting Good Hair. Nia had to school Chelsea on the fact white girls rock more weaves than black girls.

Eddie Griffin is a fool. Here’s a clip from his new VH1 reality show “Going For Broke” where his car got repo’d.

Plaxico’s and Toni Braxton’s legal woes when you read the rest…

Here’s the details on Plaxico Burress‘ lockup situation: He’s in a room–not a cell–to himself at Oneida Correctional Facility in NY. He’s separated from the general population and staying in the long-term protective custody unit. He’s got a view and a larger room than others. He is a larger man than others though. A couple days down, almost 2 years to go…

Toni Braxton’s caught up in some legal trouble…again. Her insurance company Lloyds of London is suing her for not fessing up about her pre-existing heart condition. Toni sued them first, though, for dropping her. According to TMZ:

Lloyd’s is countersuing Toni — who had concert cancellation insurance with the company — after she sued Lloyd’s for refusing to cut her a check when she canceled a show in 2006 due to heart problems.

In the lawsuit, Lloyd’s says the reason they dropped Toni … because she failed to disclose her full medical history on the insurance application. L of L claims she kept her “pericarditis condition” — a heart ailment — all to herself.

Lloyd’s not only refuses to pay up, it wants Ms. Braxton to ante up damages.

    Damn homie.

Like THEY disclose everything when you sign a contract. Puleeze. Toni have your lawyers go over everything with a fine toothed comb. I hope you get your money. I was thinking the same thing. White women have been wearing wigs and weaves for years, I know since the roaring twenties. I was proud to see Nia put Chealsea in her place but tactfully.

As for Toni, these insurance companies are rip offs. Everyone is trying to extort some money.

As far as celebrities going broke, their expenses are higher than ours therefore it is like they are living from paycheck to paycheck. It is equivalent to the average household income on a larger scale.

I think if I came into some big time money, instead of taking care of everyone, I would figure out a way to empower them to make their own money ( fund education, fund a business). If you watched Eddie’s show, he is carrying a lot of people. I’m working my ass off to take care of grown folks, hellll noo.

I do not think that extensions are less noticeable. White women who wear extensions usually match the color very well. (Although sometimes watching My Life on the D-List, I can tell Kathy G. has extensions.) I think that when people see a black woman with “good hair” they assume it is not real.

This insistence that white women wear weaves more often than black women is bizarre… and demonstrably false. It may be – it very likely is – true in Hollywood. In the real world, black women spend an extraordinary amount of money to fashion hair that could never possibly grow out of their heads.

That the very beautiful Nia Long could sincerely suggest that she sports INDIAN hair and that that is not disregard for fundamentally African (American) beauty… it’s just dishonest. And it breaks my heart to watch.

Huh? Of course she wouldn’t have received coverage; that’s how insurance works. Insurance companies don’t insure people who have a greater risk of injury or death than the average person. Not disclosing you have a serious medical condition is called FRAUD. When people commit insurance fraud, they raise the price of insurance for everyone, including the common folk. If Toni was asked whether she had a heart condition and failed to disclose that she did, her contract should have been voided. It happens to people all the time. Not sure why she, or anyone else, thought/thinks she’s above the law.

The only reason why more white women dont wear extensions in real life is because the extensions they wear can be very expensive. They can cost $1,000 or more. They are less noticable because they blend into the real hair. Many of the white women in hollywood wear them: Lauren Conrad, Kourtney Kardashian, Nicole Kidman, etc.

White women tend to wear weave when they are older or in the entertainment industry., In reality black women buy more weaves, we actually keep the market going. Most white women will wear pieces at special events and take it right off. Also weave is very expensive for them! I knew a white girl who spent a grand to get her weave done! one day she she saw my weave and asked me how much I spent? when I told her she was shocked. Also weave blends better in white hair because of the silky texture of their hair.White women in Vegas,Cali, and texas wore plenty of weave. I still think black women depend on weave a little too much, I wear it once a year when I really want to rock a cute style for a few months, not to hide my hair.

Personally, I’ve never used a weave, extensions or anything else in my hair. However, I have the sense to know that white women wear more weaves then Black women, and in turn spend more money on weaves compared to Black women. The difference is that they are not as open with the fact that they wear them, people just assume its their hair and in some cases their hair blends better making it complicated to know the difference.

Many Black women have long hair, myself included, so for you to say that the hair could never possibly grow from their heads is demonstrably false. As Nia said getting a weave does not mean you are ashamed of your hair. You are so sadly naive.

This is very unlikely. I’ve two sisters, both with very long, very natural hair, both of whom made very serious conscious decisions to abandon this ridiculousness.
So I know all about long hair. . . bearing no resemblance whatsoever to Indian hair.

Buying straight hair, stapling it to one’s head, straight-up ignoring the fact that this horde of white women who purportedly do the same do NOT, in fact, weave in hair that anyone would recognize as African in origin… THEN calling it a mere accessory choice, this is delusional.

When it comes to hair I believe it is a personal choice on what you want done with your hair. My hair is very easy to maintain, but I like to try different things…instead of putting heat to my hair, chemicals…etc. I will sometimes get a sew in. What was worng with Nia saying that her tracks were Indian hair? Most weave (well, the best quality) comes from India, its versatile and you can do many thing with it. Hair can be a insecurity issue for some, but a lot of people treat their weave like an accessory. My hair is long and all I can ever do with it is a wrap and a high ponytail. That’s no fun. Go back to history class and you will see in the times of the Egyptians wigs were worn only by the royals who could afford it…Victorian times only by the elite…roaring twenties for the flappers…sixties and seventies to get that long Cher/hippie thing going on. White women do wear more weaves than blacks, their weaves are more expensive and SOMETIMES they tend to blend better so you cannot really tell. Fake hair has been around since forever and its not going anywhere. There is no definition of good hair and if you’re bald you can always ask Tyra to donate a lace front to you. I applaud Nia for putting that smart mouth Chelsea in her place. Peace out.

What’s wrong with buying Indian hair:

      http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-1036155/Why-Ill-wear-hair-extensions-pop-star-Jamelia.html

I’m all for inventive hairstyles. However, women of African descent almost exclusively invent hairstyles that involve hair straighter than their own… nevermind that it is does not emulate hair native to them, it’s costly, time consuming and painful.
Women with naturally straight hair don’t go that far out of their way to make their hair curly…certainly not like that typically found amongst African(-American)s. That is an enormous assymetry. Straight hair seems to be the choice for the hair-involved.
      I don’t think that’s an accident.
I do think that ought give women pause.

As for this assertion that white women use weaves more than black… where is this coming from? Nia Long?
What evidence is there for this… evidence that doesn’t rely on Hollywood as representative of normal people OR invoke the, again unproven assertion, that white women weave-and-no-speak-y?

Devon: Exactly!!! People need to QUIT making excuses for white people when they try and ACT dumb founded about certain apparent things. It’s funny that it’s called extensions for white women, but weave for black women. Funny Funny…

@Devon…it’s called extendions for white women because all they use it for is to “extend” their naturally long hair….on the other hand it’s called weaves for black women because we “weave” the extentions into our hair…gerrit??.

That insurance company doesn’t have a leg to stand on. Pericarditis- inflammation of the lining of the heart is not a chronic condition. It’s temporary- often caused by viruses that also cause the common cold. Once it resolves, that’s it. They are dead wrong for that. Please pay that woman her money.
