In case you missed last night’s Hip Hop Honors, here’s a few performances that made us go Hmmm…:
Fox Boogie and Fabolous performed “I’ll Be”. Foxy Foxy Foxy.
Ja Rule & Ashanti brought us back to 2003. Even with Ashanti’s “dance moves”. Nice.
And 50 Cent had his VH1 Behind The Music special last night:
Interesting.
More vids when you read the rest…
Warren G performed “Regulators” with Trey Songz. I guess Nate Dogg isn’t able to perform just yet. He did have a few heart attacks these last couple years.
Eminem and DJ Jazzy Jeff saluted LL Cool J with “Rock The Bells”.
And over at Hampton University, people are raising hell about the new “Miss Hampton” Homecoming Queen being a white girl no one has really ever met. The crowned Queen wrote a letter to Pres. Obama saying people hate her because she’s white. While the students say she was not elected, no one even knows her and she doesn’t even attend Hampton’s main campus school. And the school officials have admitted to putting homegirl in the position for a PR move. Really Hampton?

Wed, October 14, 2009 8:34 AM
Good Morning Have a safe and blessed hump day! 2 more to go!
Wed, October 14, 2009 8:36 AM
So she doesn’t even attend the Main Campus?? And no one has ever met her??? Are we crowning folks as publicity stunts now? Doesn’t that diminish the integrity of the competition?
Wed, October 14, 2009 8:36 AM
Damn you! I was close to been first
Wed, October 14, 2009 8:40 AM
That show was a hot mess just like Foxy Brown!
Wed, October 14, 2009 8:42 AM
So I went to Hampton, and I wasn’t bothered by this at all, until just now. A PR move?? This has President Harvey’s (he’s the president of the school) name written all over it! Tryin to be the first HBCU to do it, probably to promote diversity. It’d be one thing if she attended the main campus. BTW, students don’t vote for Miss Hampton (at least they didn’t while I was there); it’s like any other pageant where there is a panel of judges.
Wed, October 14, 2009 8:42 AM
Eminem, Jazzy Jeff and The Roots represented on Rock The Bells. Great old skool!
Wed, October 14, 2009 8:44 AM
Nate Dogg had strokes, not heart attacks right?
Wed, October 14, 2009 8:47 AM
Yup…I smell Harvey all over this one. Damn shame.
They need to go back to the student body voting like when I was a student
Wed, October 14, 2009 8:47 AM
Satellite vs. Main? Please…how about asking an actual student. None of us even know where the satellite campus is for one. Second, she’s a TRANSFER STUDENT who had never even set foot on our campus before the pageant. Most students don’t give a crap about what color she is. It’s about qualifications. Our king is Asian and white but no one had a problem with that. So to say it’s a color thing is ridiculous. The rift cones fon the fact that she doesn’t know us and we don’t know her and she hasn’t done anything for our campus prior to the pageant unlike the other contestants who have been involved on campus and preparing or this pageant or years. I just find it funny how people who didn’t even know who Hampton was before the controversy have so much to say. Sit down and shut up
Wed, October 14, 2009 8:52 AM
she didnt get elected, doesnt go there and no one knows her? what idiot put her on stage and gave her a crown???
very bad look for Hampton University. To think I was thinking of attending there
Wed, October 14, 2009 8:52 AM
I didn’t even watch it…. That’s how uninterested I was!
Wed, October 14, 2009 8:53 AM
Jazzy Jeff KILLED it on the turn tables!!!!!
Wed, October 14, 2009 8:56 AM
I watched part of the show last night and I really liked Scarface’s performance.
Wed, October 14, 2009 8:58 AM
@B …Hampton is not the first HBCU to have a white homecoming queen. Kentucky State is the first. There is an artilce on AOL Black voices (google it) about the homecoming queen…I believe that there will be others KY state and Hampton are just the early few to do so.
Wed, October 14, 2009 9:06 AM
50 cent behind the music was wack I expected more! They didn’t talk about alot and dre should have made an appearance. Lord knows he ain’t working on detox!!!!
Wed, October 14, 2009 9:07 AM
I watched 50’s behind the music and who knew he was such a momma’s boy (he looks exactly like his momma) and I was laughing during the whole thing.
I didn’t really care about the hip hop honors but i watched some of it and the show was okay only a couple of performances were okay but most were bad.
And the Hampton university gets a womp womp from me for the whole situation.(A PR move bish plz)
Wed, October 14, 2009 9:10 AM
if I wanted to look at videos, I go to youtube. where are the pics?
Wed, October 14, 2009 9:11 AM
I agree I did expect more and i thought they missed out on a lot and should have made it longer or something(but i think his would have to be about 2 hours our so long )
Wed, October 14, 2009 9:11 AM
Yep I am a HU grad and I love My Home By The Sea! But President Harvey DEFINITELY has something to do with this mess, with his Black Republican self!
Wed, October 14, 2009 9:12 AM

2 WOMPS for Hampton for that PR stunt gone wrong. Only thing I have to say is “behold the green and gold”. If you went to Hampton, you know exactly what school I’m repping. I have love for HU tho. Anyways, I didn’t even waste my time watching that hip hop honors show. BET awards was enough for me in one year…

LOL. Faux Brown. I like that. I liked the awards but I was pretty disappointed I didn’t see Jay-Z, Rhianna, Kanye, or LL Cool J perform or even be there in person. And for the murder inc. reunion I wish they could have had Charlie Baltimore. That would have set sh** off!
And what’s really hood Hampton?
Wed, October 14, 2009 10:42 AM

Wed, October 14, 2009 11:08 AM
i wasted my time watching this. i wanted to see people from the early years, the begining, the one hit wonders from the label. HIGHLIGHTS- jazzy jeff, kid rock, the roots, black guy playing red guitar, the story telling.just about everything else sucked.
Wed, October 14, 2009 11:44 AM
If that was a PR move on behalf of the school prez he lose points. But if it was for the intention of promoting diversity I can’t complain. I think it’s a good idea. I don’t care what anyone say, in my eyes HBCU’s are legal segregation.
Wed, October 14, 2009 11:53 AM
I watched part of the show last night and I really liked DMX performance. LOVE U DMX. YO!!!!!!!!!!!
Wed, October 14, 2009 11:58 AM

I Love…I Love my H.I.U.! Go Pirates!
Wed, October 14, 2009 1:48 PM
Interesting…but what are your thoughts on the Ivy’s? They have always maintained more white students and are increasing their number of foreign students over black american students.

Wed, October 14, 2009 2:06 PM
exactly! DMX had one of the best performances of the night… he was very energetic and got the crowd involved, I really hope he comes back from his issues, the game needs it.
Wed, October 14, 2009 2:07 PM
All the more reason why Hampton could never be like the REAL HU. Howard, stand up! LOL.
But seriously, there’s so much campus politics and questionable antics, it’s really unfortunate for students attending this school looking for that enlightening HBCU experience. The student body seems to have no sayso in what occurs on their campus. The dress code, curfews, “no natural hair” controversy, censorship in the newspaper, and now this debacle. They can’t even nominate their own queens! The administration hand-picked her. I know The Institute has a largely assimilationist value system, but this strategic “diversity pick” takes things a bit far. Now you have to compete to have Black beauty & achievement recognized on a Black campus?
Why hasn’t there been a protest? Or why don’t the students petition for the president’s resignation? He seems to be putting those poor kids through quite a bit, and really dragging the school’s name and HBCU’s reputations through the mud in the process.
Wed, October 14, 2009 2:30 PM
i know love me some dmx looked all drug free for the night, lol i hope he is clean he really looked like his old self. Yeah loved his performance & thats about it oh warren G brought me back to my smoking days(wink, wink),lol
Wed, October 14, 2009 3:02 PM
foxy is still the best female rapper to ever do it…. damn those boobs are huge…
Wed, October 14, 2009 3:52 PM
Too late, HBCU Kentucky State beat him to it. And she got out there and campaigned and was ELECTED BY THE STUDENTS!
Wed, October 14, 2009 3:56 PM
At least KY State’s quenn got out there campaigned and EARNED IT. The first white valdictorian at Morehouse also earned his. Now, if it was handed to her by some community judges, then I understand the lack of students’ respect.
Wed, October 14, 2009 3:57 PM
I’m a Hampton Alum, this is so not beneath Hampton… You not slick, Harvey! We see you, LOL
Wed, October 14, 2009 5:37 PM
OMG, will people just get over this whole Miss HU thing?! OK, the Hawaiian girl won. So the fuck what. I just transferred from HU last year and the pagaents are always on some BS. If an AKA wins the Alpha pagaent, then everybody says its rigged. If a talented yet lame ass person wins anything period, everyone asks WTF and clowns her for days. It is what it is.The real issue at hand is not her color but the process of judging…how do they pick these damn girls that no one knows, that aren’t really involved, and no kind of social standing? That’s what a homecoming queen is! And I could see if it was the girl with the best talent or the smartest chick but no, they always seem to pick who they feel is “pretty” and usually that person is not qualified to represent the University. I’m not surprised that its a PR stunt because President Harvey is forever doing something that is unhanded and shady that always has a negative effect on the University. Yes, he contributed alot to the University during his tenure as President but it’s time for his ass to go.
Wed, October 14, 2009 6:11 PM
AHHH!! GO REAL HU!! HOWARD!! CLASS OF ‘06 COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCES! Bison til the day I DIE!! *tears of joy*

LMFAO LLS
Wed, October 14, 2009 6:57 PM
Why this Hampton hotmessedness in the name of diversity? I smell elitist buffoonery. And why is she writing the President about this foolishness? Do better Hamp U. SMH
Looks like Em was the bright spot in the Hip Hop awards. At the start of Rock the Bells, I swear he sounded just like LL. Rockin a Kango would have been the hottness though.
kind
Wed, October 14, 2009 8:07 PM
Hmm…it’s always great to show diversity in a community already struggling with self-hate issues…same ol, ol…it was also intersting to see Kim K. on the cover of a South African mens magazine…
The best part of the Honors show was Jazzy Jeff. I still cannot bring myself to like Eminem after the comments he made about black women.
Wed, October 14, 2009 8:30 PM
damn hampton is one of the school’s i’m applying to…
Wed, October 14, 2009 8:59 PM
I enjoyed the clip of Fifty.. My brother told me about it last night. I respect him more and feel more confident that my day is coming.. Poor Foxy.. She should have stayed focused.. I wonder did she regain her hearing..
Wed, October 14, 2009 9:19 PM
That shit is so old. Get over it already. Theres not much anyone can do about it. It’s pretty obvious to anyone that he’s not a racist. I don’t know what else you want him to do.
Wed, October 14, 2009 9:59 PM
thats why the real HU (howard) is whats good…if it was a PR game they should be ashamed…thats why i didnt wanna go there lol
Wed, October 14, 2009 10:01 PM
I know Curtis mom is smiling down on him very proud! His story is a true success story. No matter what negative comments people say about him, he will always be the shit!!
Love you, Curtis!!!
Wed, October 14, 2009 10:19 PM
wowwy wow wow. hampton institute is lame for that one.
Wed, October 14, 2009 10:24 PM
Whoa, When did Hampton admit to this being a PR student??? Alot of bloggers, including myself, have written that it was as a matter of personal opinion…but I didn’t see that information located elsewhere? *steps to google*
Wed, October 14, 2009 10:48 PM
Foxy Brown and Fab brought that Brooklyn energy to the show(which was desperately needed)
Lol @SongzYuup… Nobody ccan compare to Nate Dogg on Regulate. EVER!!!!!!!!
Loving the side eye homegirl is giving in the homecoming photo
Thu, October 15, 2009 7:55 AM
I don’t go to Hampton, nor am I an alum, but I am intrigued by the PR move portion of the story. I can’t find an article that says that, though. Can anyone provide the source article?
Thu, October 15, 2009 2:07 PM
Why would you contact the President of the United States and not speak directly to the student body. “We don’t shake hands on campus…we hug” was our school way of doing things and it is still embraced to this day. We represent a standard of excellence.
The students, and I know because I have family who attends now, had issues with her being a Senior Transfer student who just arrived on campus in Septemeber(satelite location) and was allowed to participate with the students who been there since freshman , sophmore years and who have been preparing for this for years. She doesn’t know the student body, having participated in campus activities. MR. HAMPTON UNIVERSITY IS ASIAN and THE STUDENTS EMBRACED HIM BECAUSE THEY KNEW HIM!!!!!!BUTYOU DON’T HERE THAT IN THE NEWS. THE STUDENTS ARE UPSET because she painted a horrible image about HU which is not true.
ITS FUNNY HOW YOU WON THE TITLE ON A FRIDAY AND WROTE THE LETTER ON A SUNDAY…..HOW MUCH TORMENT WERE YOU GOING THROUGH FOR YOU TO WRITE PRESIDENT IN ONE DAY!!! YOU HAD IT PLAN GIRL..
OH, DID I MEANTION THAT MISS HAMPTON UNIVERSITY COMPETES IN THE MISS VIRGINIA PAGEANT, THEN MISS AMERICA PAGEANT…HMMMMMMMMM…..I GUESS YOUR PLATFORM WILL BE “DIVERSITY”.
SOUNDS LIKE YOU SET THIS UP!
Homecoming should be interesting.
Thu, October 15, 2009 11:16 PM

Much ado about nothing. Sad to see the negative reaction. Little minds have little thoughts.
