Thandie Newton Gets Fab+Russell Simmons Checks Bill Cosby+Kerry Rhodes’ Bowling Party
Thandie Newton was looking fab on last nights black carpet premiere of 2012 in London.
Russell Simmons has written an open letter to Bill Cosby about Bill’s tendencies to pop off on the kids. He’s asking Mr. Cosby to realize that the younger generation of the urban community is not to blame for violence and hatred::
We love Cosby and all the older types who judge and blame the poets or culture for the sadness that the poets point to from their realities. From a place of love, I am letting the older generation know that they must admit that young people are less racist, less sexist, less homophobic, less prejudice than their parents and far less than their grandparents. Mr. Cosby, you know that your generation is carrying a lot more dirt, you are all just smart enough to cover it up. Old people are quicker to destroy the planet, abuse the animals and promote wars and then act like young people are violent. Young people are more compassionate, giving, promote gay rights, animal rights, human rights, protect the environment and want to end the wars. When they point out the contradictions that come up and say it on a record and say it LOUD, you can’t believe it!

Russell and Bill Cosby both need to look at the whole scene. No, young people arent to blame for everything but to say that the ones to blame are the older generations is crazy! We are all of sound mind and make our own decisions based of judgement, good or bad. my 78 year old grandfather is not making my uncle or cousins make the bad decisions they made. The way things are now is NOTHING like what older generations had to deal with. That has to do with poor choices. Both men make good points and points that dont make much sense. I guess Russell has a minor point. But I think that the blame should rest on the parents too, not just the young. Most people are TAUGHT violent, misogynistic, sexist, racist, and homophobic views. If that’s all you know, it takes someone else to show you the way. So I’ve never really agreed wholeheartedly with Mr. Cosby, but I totally understand what he’s saying.

I think Mr. Cosby know that the younger generation of the urban community is not the sole blame for violence and hatred. That’s one of the reasons i hate BET so much and that Black in america series. We all know the problems of the urban communities but no one actually told people WHY these problems exists. That alone could put many things into perspective. These things didn’t happen over night and the reasons WHY things happen in these communities are very relavent and things have gotten worst as time go by.
Russell, Bill, Eric Dyson, Debbie Lee Lee and others who may agree or diagree should be on a panel together and discuss these things. I personnally believe at the end of the day no one gives a damn about urban america. People only want to critize;there is NO CARING for these people that’s being affected in these communities.
Russell has his BIG HOUSE,BIG BANK and his children are SAFE and are being EDUCATED. Bill Cosby has his BIG HOUSE, BIG BANK,his children are SAFE and has been EDUCATED.I’m not really sure if they are qulified to judge and comment on how certain folks live their lives when it’s totally opposite from theirs.

For the record Bill Cosby is at least 20 years older than Russ so they are separated by a generation. But more to the point I understand what Russ is saying but at the same time he needs to realize the new generation is more understanding, caring, tolerant, etc. because of the sacrifices that Cosby’s generation made for us. Being 38 myself with a teenager and preteen I understand both points of view. Some of our children are out of control and while the system has some blame the majority goes to us parents. The children have no fear anymore and that is in some ways because of the strides that folks have made in the past. While neither is totally wrong, neither is absolutely correct. As someone else pointed out we need this dialogue with different points of view because there is no one answer to the mess that many of our communities are in.
