Sneak Peek Of Rihanna’s “20/20″ Interview
ABC showed about 5 minutes of Rihanna’s upcoming “20/20″ interview this morning. It airs in full tomorrow night. She sounded pretty hurt and scared during this interview.
You can read a summary of what she said under the cut…

“That’s embarrassing that that’s the type of person that I fell in love with,” Rihanna told “Good Morning America’s” Diane Sawyer in her first television interview discussing the assault. “So far in love. So unconditional that I went back. It’s humiliating to say this happened. To accept that? It’s a traumatizing experience.”
Her decision to go back to Brown, she said, was a mistake.
“I stayed. I even went back after he beat me, which was wrong,” she said. “But again … I’m a human being and people put me on a very unrealistic pedestal. And all these expectations, I’m not perfect.”
The 21-year-old star acknowledged that Brown held her in a headlock twice that night and bit her on the ear and fingers.
After months of silence since the February beating, Rihanna decided to speak publicly about the ordeal so she can be a voice to help others who may be in danger of returning to abuse.
“It’s completely normal to go back. It’s not right. I learned the hard way, but again, this is what I want people to know,” she said. “When I realized that my selfish decision for love could result in some young girl getting killed, I could not be easy with that part. I couldn’t be held responsible for going back.
She goes on to say “Eff” (f*ck) Love
“Even if Chris never hit me again, who is to say that their boyfriend won’t? Who’s to say that they won’t kill these girls?” she said. “These are young girls and I just didn’t realize how much of an impact I had on these girls’ lives until that happened.”
“One of the most lonely times I’ve been was in the past few months because nobody understands what it’s like,” she said. “There are a lot of women who’ve experienced what I did, but not in the public. So it made it really difficult. I just felt like, ‘Oh my God, here it goes, my little bit of privacy.’”

She’s soo strong and courageous. I commend her for finally speaking out. Some women are in abusive relationships for 10yrs or more before they can come out of it. RiRi is one of the lucky ones. Her interview was mos def 100% better informed than CB’s interview. I felt her pain…and her strength. Can’t wait for the continuation tomorrow. LOVE YOU A WHOLE BUNCH RIRI!!

Real incident and pain, no doubt. Suddenly feeling the “urge” to speak out for herself and other young ladies when an album is about to drop is crass commercialism. It takes away from what happened, in my opinion. She could have dealt with it earlier…we all know the interviewers would have brought it up again anyway, and she could comment without really commenting, ya know? She could pull one of those “I really don’t want to talk about it, but…” and go right back into it. Oh well.

Album or no album to promote, I’m PROUD of her for saying that. She needed to speak. Its gonna bring her closure. Chris, too, eventually. & YES I’m proud of her accent havin’ ass 4 saying it all.

I believe she could have coe out sooner…if you were really concerned about other teens going throught the same thing. Not parading around playing dress up and taking photographs. Abuse is real, but she has an album coming out so….

I also feel that this interview just in time for her recored to drop is a little to convenient….why not speak about it sooner…it looks like a ploy to garner sympathy and thus sell records……no I do not condone what Chris did but I can also see how her people thought they would spin this whole thing into a “Rhianna moment”….so not impressed and I will NOT be watching it

I am totally against domestic violence, but I have a problem with Rhianna and her attempts to “clear the air” and appear vulnerable and innocent just in time for her album release.
Furthermore, it is documented in the court system that she and Chris were having a mutual physical fight that night, but of course he got the better of her. For her not to deal with her issue of violence is a crock of ish. She has totally lost my support just like Juanita Bynum and ANY celeb that uses abuse as a way pimp their causes.
OnNov 5, 2009 at 9:25 am (Quote) | Reply |
none of us was there and none of us saw what happen. i do know that something happen, and i know that she asked the courts to not put strong restriction on chris thar first time in court. i know that she loved chris and he no doubt loved her but its all over and all of the hurt and darkness of that night can be talked about once and for all. rihanna has been silent all of this time and she has a right as a human being to speak on it when ever she desides too. she brought tears to my eyes but let her get this talk over with so that she and chris can bury it once and for all. and she has just as much a right to talk as he did when he talked on larry king, get it over with and get back on their grinds, they are both still very young and have got a offer lot to offer the industry.

I can’t believe she snitched. We all know she was abused and we all know that she may have played a part in it. I read somewhere that she hit him all the time. Abuse is not right whether it’s a man or a woman doing it. Be careful because KARMA is a Beeeoootch and it may take months or even years but just as much as your career was damaged so was Chris’s. Why speak to the media and ruin his reputation even more. Think about we WE ALREADY KNOW!> LET IT GO!

U people are so funny to me. the fact that you believe the only reason she has come forward with all this, is because her album is about to drop. she didn’t have to do an interview for her album to sale. because she has loyal fans. but whats so funny to me is that fact the chris brown is doing the same exact thing, in fact it is actually over kill. he has done so many interviews it is sick. he also has a special airing the same days as rihanna’s. i feel like how many times can you answer the same questions to cover your butt. give rihanna the spot light. your time is up. so all the haters can begin to come in full force. love ri ri, and will be getting the album.

Does it really matter if she spoke on it the day after it happened or the day after Neverary? She was not obligated to speak on it at all, but she did. If anybody should be looked at with a side eye it should be Chris. He didn’t speak until it was most opportune for him after he was sentenced.

that is real talk!! Seriously
Learn from that. I have personal experience (not battering however) that it is a mistake to follow your heart and not your mind when it comes to relationships sometimes.
If I had had that mindset years ago, I would have spared a lot of heartache and tears.
She seriously looked so uncomfortable with the interview. Why I feel like it was forced?
OnNov 5, 2009 at 9:28 am (Quote) | Reply |
OMG! Some of you people on her are SO completely wrapped up in hating others that you don’t even realize the reality of this situation. She finally decided to speak out, to give people a chance to hear her side of the store but to also let you know that she IS human and does go through the same things we do, emotionally. BUT She is always a celebrity and being an entertainer is what pays the bills so she is not going to STOP doing that because of that situation, same with Chris Brown, same with any other entertainer who has gone through some public humility. I’ve noticed you guys felt the same way when Whitney Houston came out and talked about her drug addiction and relationship about Bobby Brown. You all speculate like you know them. Stop with the assumptions. What they go through is real and I’m sure it’s ten times worse than anyone who is in the same situation because it become nationwide news. Stop JUDGING and learn. Take the time to pray for anyone else who has to deal with this. It’s serious. It’s not a stunt to sell albums, that’s when her “parading around in pictures” comes in and putting out a record. Talking about the abuse is something she probably felt she owed to her fans and young girls.

Not a Rhianna fan, but I give her props for speaking out. Who cares when she speaks out, she did. We know she has an cd coming out and she would be doing plenty of shows promoting her cd, perhaps she wanted to speak once and get it out of the way. God Bless Her and Chris too, he needs help.
I’m speaking from experience my Moms husband beat me everyday of my life until I was 15 and was able to leave. That’s all I knew, but I also kneew that I would never expose my kids to such violence. So, I got help and that’s what Chris needs.

Ok, so only now she wants to be a S.Person for Domestic violence - when she’s about to release an album; almost 9 mnths after the inccident happened.
I dont believe her and I dont believe she’s innocent in the situation as she is portrayed.
She beat him first/ slapped him before ( most women wouldnt dare do that to their aggressor), he defended himself (even though it was the wrong thing to do) and she got hurt.
If there was any decency left in her, she would have shared the blame and let women all around the world know what happen to you when you cant keep your hands to your damn self.

Ok so she is a role model for young girls and she wants to help them, I am all for that. I dont think you have bring back up an ugly, humiliating night to do that. She talks about her privacy being invaded and being put on an unrealistic pedastole….ok whats unrealistic is the money your making so get over it, you chose to be a superstar so you gotta deal with what comes with that…you arent complaining about shopping and touring the world so get over the privacy invasion. My point of view, coming from a domestic violence background, keep the details quite. You’ve remained silent this long, no need to bring it back up. Not impressed and not watching, I’m tuned into the ATL housewives reunion part 2.

even if she talks 2 weeks before her album release it does not mean that what she says is fake! who are we to judge her.I mean who will talk about that just after it happens it is really difficult to talk about that in public when people like you and i are analysing and judjing all this situation. American celebrities always fabricate their interviews it’s not new but to her I think it was usefull because she is forced (yes ‘forced’ not like every girls who are beaten)to send a message to young girls.

Ok! then why did you not speak out after you were walking around half naked in the streets, laughing at people, thinking you are all that and more, smelling your self so that no one is better than you, never visiting any shelter, not reaching out to no one, refused to go on Oprah, actually told Oprah to mind her own business, did not go straight home to visit after altercation, never once did you do anything constructive while other girls were being kicked or thrown down stairs, raped by the so called boyfriends, slapped around just because and so on? but now you wanna sale a CD and now you are the voice of every girl being beat in the world? Oh! I forgot you still trying your best to get the restraining order revoked but now you know he’s moved on and is seeing someone you wanna speak. Def Jam or Jay z one told you to not be seen in the public’s eye with him, you can sneak around but dont let no one see it…Girl if you dont stop!

Some of your comments are disgusting. You all are ignorant people. An artist is just that; an artist.
“She talks sh*t on her album but then goes on GMA and acts scared and plays the victim”
That was a stupid, stupid thing to say. What does her lyrics & songs have to do with her as a person? Nothing. Don’t compare the two. Plays the victim? She was a victim of domestic violence, she isn’t playing anything.
And Jacqui, her “parading around and playing dress up”, is her getting back to her reality as a singer and enetertainer. It’s her job. What? You wanted her to sit in a desolate corner & stop doing her job? KILL YOURSELF!!
I just can’t even stomach some of your comments. This is ridiculous. You all are sheltered, ignorant human beings. I wish Tasha would monitor these comments, or not allow any at all. It’s just sickening they way you people think.
IGNORANT!
And your comments disrespecting the owner is subject to you getting banned, but you disrespecting the people she talks about goes unpunished. Terrible!!

you know. You people are so delusional. Did you even listen to what she ways?
Stop looking at her as a celebrity. SHe is human, as is Chris. This is a real life situation. Stop expecting her to do what you want to do. So she didnt got to a Women’s Shelter…why should she exploit what she has done for your satisfaction??
Clearly the situation makes her uncomfortable to the point where she doesnt even want to address it. Anybody who has had something tramatic in their lives try to shove it in the back of their mind and not address it because if they do, they become an emotional wreck. That is how I was when my father passed away a couple of years ago. I didn’t want to talk about it. But when I finally opened up to my family about my feelings I broke down and cried so hard my head was spinning.
You guys only think of the artist, the celebrity and how she should be the spokesperson and whatnot. She is a human being and deals with the same kind of pain as we all do. If that situation happened to me, the last thing I would want to do is throw my name around to companies just to get in good with the media.
Stop throwing sticks and stones…..

I think she is genuine and I agree with everything she said.
My only question is, is she with Chris or not? Cuz based on the music I heard so far, she sound like she still riding with dude. Nevertheless, I’m supporting them both. They’re young and life is about growth…making mistakes and hopefully learning and growing from them.

If doing the interview now will help her album sales and help her gain more confidence in herself and be happy then why is that a bad thing? It doesn’t change the fact that she’s a young woman who went through something very serious that could have ended her life. She’s telling HER story and is allowed to tell it when SHE wants to, not when YOU think she should!

The ones who are still claiming she was physical with him still have no proof of those allegations. But there was proof that Chris tore up a restaurant after throwing a tantrum with his mother that he had to pay $50k for. Jeff Johnson did an interview that said that he was well known for throwing tantrums and such. And it’s you can’t be an adult if you really believe in that “Stop Snitchin” nonsense. That idea is fine and cool until something happens to someone you love. That’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. And the sad part is, when I taught middle school, a lot 6th graders would say that same idiotic slogan. That’s where there’s so much violence without accountability among young people today. Stop snitchin? SMH.
If a man whipped your behind you better snitch because there’s a good chance he’s coming back for you.
The fact that there are young women who are trying to blame her is ridiculous and sad.

Those are the same type of women that would have excused CB’s behavior, kept going back and start having children with him.
It’s disgusting. People need to look beyond the celebrity and look at the situation at hand.
I can’t believe that one would be so huge of a fan of Chris that they would actually slay Rihanna in the process. Sad state of affairs.
When I have a daughter I will teach her NOT to become someone like that. its disgusting.
Rihanna isn’t thinking about her career in this situation, so the CB stans can cease with the “recommendations” of what she should do. Learn from this…

Album or no album who cares. Point blank she came across and REAL and GENUINE..people can call her a ‘bitch’ and ‘hate’ her and question her timing but who cares. It was SHE who had to deal with this ordeal publicly.. Shit like dealing with domestic violence takes time…think about the time on average it take a woman to cope with being abused. Add that to her having to deal with it in the public eye..again, I’m seriously proud of her..and love her for standing up!

Yes, but in 2 weeks Rihanna would have started promo interviews. That’s all anyone would have wanted to talk about anyway.
Besides, if anyone is going to profit from this situation shouldn’t it be the victim?

To those who don’t understand the interview and are against her speaking out, and basically defending Chris Brown the following is my fav quote, and I agree 100 percent.
________________________________________________
EWWWW some of you “SISTAS” DISTGUST ME. I’m reading comments like “don’t kiss and tell”, or some of you blaming her. ARE YOU IDIOTS CRAZY? Regardless if she “started it” or “she hit Chris first” CHRIS BROWN WHOPPED HER A Z Z. Not just with ONE HIT, but with MULTIPLE BLOWS and BITES!!!!! I hate to say this BUT NO WONDER WHY SO MANY BLACK MEN CHOOSE TO DATE OUTSIDE OF THEIR RACE. JUST LOOK AT THE ABOVE POSTED COMMENYTS BY SOME OF YOU BLACK WOMEN, AND IT’S OBVIOUS THAT SOME OF YOU ARE SOME OF THE MOST IGNORANT, SELF HATING PEOPLE WALKING THE GREEN EARTH! Blaming Rhianna for this situation! You women who defend Chris Brown are the ones probably with the lowest self-esteem, probably letting some man whoop you ass, while you pay his child support, rent and car note.
OnNov 5, 2009 at 9:46 am (Quote) | Reply |
I hate women that don’t support other women! This world will continue to be a “man’s world” as long as women devalue ourselves and each other in favor of a man. This is why women who are in domestic violence situations or who have been raped don’t speak out. Because there is always some dumb bird out there who is gonna side with the guy and say, “well, you must have provoked him” or “what were you wearing before he raped you?”. Rhianna is the victim. CB plead guilty, hellooooo.

I did not expect her to exploit what she has done “for my satisfaction” as you put it. BUT I do not applaud her to NOW exploiting what she’s done to sell albums, because that’s all this is about. If you cannot see that, then perhaps you’re the delusional one.
I - nor anyone - is trying to minimize what happened to her. We all saw the pictures. And it was awful that she went through it! No one is debating that. But the reason why so many are upset about this is that her timing comes across very calculated and disinginuine. Two days ago on this very site, we all watched her aweful video of crotch grabbing and disrespecting the Church, and now she wants to sit on 20/20 and cry “I’m a victim” and “want to save young girls”. I do agree with one thing you said, she is human and everyone deals with things differently — BUT she IS a celebrity too and the images she puts out affects these same “young girls” that she now claims she’s trying to save. A complete contradition!

Teenage girls these days are so lost. I really don’t think that parents are teaching their daughters how to respect themselves and how they should never accept abuse from their boyfriends. I’ve met some of the friends of the girls in my fam who’ve told me that there 17 and 18 year old boyfriend has slapped them and they were only 15-16 years old.
And we live in this “blame the victim” society that is so engrossed in the entertainment industry that they believe and form their opinions by what everyone else is saying.
There are a million Rihanna’s out there, who’ve been abused just like she has. Of course it’s not a culture thing but I’ve seen so many news stories of young black women being killed by their boyfriends. I remember, the other year, during the summer months there were numerous national news stories about the murders of young black women at the hands of their boyfriends. This issue is very real.
And you say, it took her 9 months to speak. Didn’t Chris just speak last month? Don’t you think that she had to wait until the legal process as over in order to speak?
And she has no control over when her record comes out, Def Jam does. Her record is coming out in the 4 quarter just like many other acts are.
If you know how her story could help young girls and women then maybe you wouldn’t speak such nonsense. Sad.

I’m sure she is using this to generate sales, but she is also taking responsibility for being a “role model”, and I commend her for it. Just like she said she had to take herself out of the situation and look at the message she was sending. If more of the artist that we listen to and allow our kids to listen would do the same thing we could see a world of difference in our youth. When you think about it she really had to say nothing and she would still sell millions of records, because people want to hear the music she has written that will express her deepest emotions of what happend that night. Go RhiRhi wit ya bad self!

I have nothing against Rhianna or Chris Brown, but Stevie Wonder can see that she is doing this in time for her CD release. I think it is interesting how some of the others on the site are jumping all over other women for not supporting this interview as being genunine, as if that is not possible for celebrities.
Yes I do think it’s a problem with her waiting until her music comes out to speak out about something so heinous as domestic violence. What does that say to other young women? Talk about it when it benefits you in other ways? When tou write a book or do a clothing line? How are they suppose to take her serious? People should never question domestic violence, but we are in a society where people have some ill motivations and that should be clear too.

Remember guys she is human, young, and was in love. And we know how that “in love” thing goes. You become so attatched to that person…Some men do you so wrong, come back and tell you all the sweet things you want to hear and all the apologies, gifts, and roses and we women fall for it. Take them back and hope that they won’t do it again. And then some do the same thing all over again. I’m not going to say all (cause there are some good men out there, So it’s just a matter of self-worth and letting go…which is really hard to do when you love someone and can’t see yourself w/o them…. but sometimes letting go is better than staying. She said it was a mistake for her to go back, because it sends the wrong message to young girls, and THEY have to forget about the love they are feeling for their abuser, F*&^ love. She was not saying love doesn’t mean anything, she was saying the person abusing you does not really love you. So many of you are so blind and foolish. She is a human being. This situation is real. If you’ve never been abused or in a situation like that than you have ABSOLUTELY no idea the toll it takes on you and how hard it is to get through such a situation. Especially being in the public eye makes it that much harder. Have some sympathy and a heart. If this was your mother, daughter, sister going through this would you be saying such things. Some people don’t talk about it for years. Of course if she has an album coming out people are going to interview her and ask her what happened. She’s ready to talk about it now, SO WHAT! Get a life people, worry about yourselves. Some of you on here are just so judgmental. At the end of the day only God can judge us.

Rihanna doesn’t need this situation to sell records. She’s a more successful artist than Chris. As Diane said, she’s had the most #1 singles of this decade. She was the bigger artist. I have never bough an album of hers but I’ve read many industry interviews and know that she sells records and has the awards to back it up. This is not exactly positive press.

Everyone has an opinion about this situation but for those who think Rhianna is telling the truth is irrelevant. The fact of the matter is she is using this situation to sale her album and to further ruin Chris Brown. I believe they are mutually guilty of domestic violence, they both played a major part in the situation and RhiRhi should have spoke about the incident months ago when Chris was doing interviews. I used to be a fan of RhiRhi but now I’m beginning to dislke her because of her tasteless dressing, parading around for media attention and the dark songs she is singing. Pray for Rhianna and Chris but Rhianna need to stop with the dramatics and attention seeking. She is evil! Leave Chris alone and the sont “Transformer” is hot and so is the video. Personally, I don’t purchase cd’s, however I will purchase Chris’ cd on December 5th to support him. FYI: Watch Rhianna’s body language, she is holding her hands up to her mouth and looking down bc she’s not telling the truth about everything. You can’t look a person in their face when ur lying.

The one who needs to sit down and STFU is Chris. I was almost feeling some kind of why about him but no more. He need to STFU and let Riri speak with out a rebutle (sp?). That is so indicative of an abuser - always has to have the LAST WORD. He hasn’t learned a thing. Chris, stop with the interviews!!!
He needs more people.

I hope these Chris supporters are not over the age of 25. That would be sad. You expect certain nonsense from young girls, but when you get at least 25, you should know better and have a better handle on some sense.

I don’t know if anyone has said this already or not but I’m too angry to keep reading the comments. First of all, she probably couldn’t comment on the situation because they were actively pressing charges. Also, did anyone ever think that maybe it took her some time to even ADMIT that it happened?!? Yes, it’s a few weeks before her album drops but who cares! If her revealing this information saves just one life it’s worth it. This interview should not soley be for our entertainment and anyone that takes it as that is just as sick as Chris! This is a life. She’s attempting to be an activist. You have to respect that.
My second point is this whole “I hope she takes some blame.” C’mon people. She was the VICTIM. No matter what anyone does they don’t deserve another person (male or female) to put their hands on them. Asking her to take blame is like asking a rape victim to do the same. Chris is 10 times stronger and should’ve had enough restraint to walk away from the situation just like she was TRYING to do before he viciouslly mutilated her.
That’s my 29 cents and I’m off my soapbox.

She did have lots of pics when her face was covered, I worry about Beyonce bcuz she also has lots of covering the face pics…hmmmm.
Guys that abouse usually do it to control and shame their women and are really insecure and have mental problems.
They equal love with pain that they inflict on their woman, when realy they should use their hands and actions in loving manners instead they cause harm.
I hope that your game is stepped up and you are informed of what going back means. I know that you are not a CB and that you are lover and not a fighter…
Women: put men in two categories first, is he a lover or a fighter? Then put him in another category, is he on top of his shit or not?
If you have a guy in the lover category but not on his shit, let him stay single until he is on top of his shit. He will step up his game at some point, just don’t let yourself be with that LOSER until he does.
You are worth it!

I have never commented on this site, but I feel the need to now…I also feel she is doing this b/c she has an album coming out. But not for the same reasons some of you think. I don’t think she’s doing it for promotion; she’s doing it b/c she is trying to go on with her life & her career. And, since people are so damn obsessed with this situation that she probably feels that she had to speak in order to move on. Do you know how many haters would still talk shit if she hadn’t spoken up? I can hear it now “why the hell would I buy her album if she’s not gonna tell me every single detail of what went down”. It’s ridiculous! And who cares how long it took her to speak? I’ve been a victim of dom violence myself & I still haven’t told anyone the details of what happened to me & that was years ago!! There’s no time frame for this, but b/c she is in the public eye, she had to say something sooner or later. And it’s a shame that her career has dictated when it was time for her to speak out whether she was ready or not! I commend her for being so strong & hopefully her message will help other young ladies in that same situation!

OMG. You people are crazy. This is a business but I do think she is sincere and no different than any other artist who is coming out about to drop an album. All ya’ll didn’t talk this $h!t about Whitney Houston. I also believe that if she didn’t want to talk about it or was not ready then she would not have. She will sell albums regardless. That is how big she is without Chris Brown.

Hmm, if Diane went to a batter women’s shelter to do an interview and threw out a number and then was corrected by a victum, I would probably take the battered women’s shelter’s word over hers. She’s human too, she can make mistakes.
That was just a ignorant comment all the way around. It really was.

Ok… So I have to say that Chris Brown has pupped for his album. He has never denied doing that. But to say that she is doing this for young girls is ridiculous. Like so many, I agree that if that was the case she should have done it earlier. She didnt care what happened to the girls over the past few months of her silence. Also, if she got a new outlook on her new found role model status, why does she still sing songs that dont encourage positive things. What about her parading around half naked. Does she not think that would influence young girls to dress like sluts. She doesnt care as much as she is putting on cuz her image ha gotten worst not better.
I really do feel bad for her. This has to be hard for anyone to go through but the way she is doing it and the timing is not the best way to get the point across to young girls. While I am sympathetic for her, I have lost respect.

Rihanna knows just like the rest of us that while shes promoting this album ppl are gnna ask her questions about the situation. Why not speak about it on your terms. If i was her i wouldnt speak about it til i was ready either. None of us know how long it took for her to deal with what happened. Im so sick of people in the black community blaming the female and taking up for these scumbag men. We did the same crap to Robin Givens. No matter wht she did to provoke him, NO MAN has the right 2 touch a woman. If you lack the self control 2 walk away in a situation then your ass deserves to be alone. Ppl are gnna make you mad everyday deal with it like a real man and keep it movin. The way ppl are treating her is the exact reason why women do not report these crimes. The number one killer of African-American women ages 15 to 34 is homicide at the hands of a current or former intimate partner. Check the facts b4 tht shit happens 2 u or someone u love.

@jay I agree with you. I would like to ad that those who feel she is throwing chris under the bus should stop it. SHe is telling it from her point of view. Chris told it from his. As a person above said, there is no proof that rihanna ever was violent with CHris, if she says it herself, I will believe it then, but I will not speculate and say she hit him first. Yes there are reports of Chris’s temper tantrum, like when he raged on his mother, and he broke out a car window in Barbados. That is already two well known incidents showing Chris in an out of control type of behavior. What is so wrong in recognizing that Chris may very well have some anger issues that needs addressing. Getting help is better than denial.

I am no fool by all means you are. All caps really, internet gangsta, lol. My point is that I read about women, more specifically black women taking up for Chris Brown and making it seem as if it was Rihanna’s fault. The truth is that a lot of black women deal with low self-esteem, they would have to in order to condone or justify that what Chris Brown did to this girl is right. The other point being is if she hit him, she still did not deserve to get her ass beat like she did, no one deserves that black or white. I halfway read your argument, for the simple fact I got bored in the middle and your cluelessness was so obvious and sad. Again, that was a quote that I picked up from someone else, and I totally agree with it. Some black women feel that they don’t deserve better. The perfect example are the people defending CB simply because he is handsome and a “superstar.”

I love Chris and Rihanna both. I wasn’t in the car that day and I don’t know what happened that night. But I do know that Domestic Abuse is real and I don’t care how long it took her to respond the point is she responded. She is in the public eye and so what if she was taking pictures and playing dress up we forget that she has a job to do and she has obligations that does NOT mean that she wasn’t hurting or dealing with the situation. Maybe she was just putting up a front to show people that this hasn’t stopped her but we don’t know what she does behind closed doors she may cry her self to sleep at night who are we to say how a person should deal.

The point is, there are thousands of ‘Rihanna’s’ out there. Some of you may even have one living next door to you. Would you care if she were being abused? Would you obsess about it or make it the topic of your every concversation? Would you tell her that she better tell the world her business as soon as it happens? No, you wouldn’t. If it were happening in your backyard or in your family (God forbid) alot of you would take a more realistic approach to this. At the end of the day (no Chris Brown), Rihanna went through a real & tramatizing situation. And it’s got to be 100x worse for the whole world to be all up in her business judging & criticizing her no matter what move she makes.

Again, I am a woman who LIVED this pratically every day of my life for 3 years and it takes you through all kinds of emotions. But there was something just a little fake and rehearsed about Rihanna’s comments. I know it’s an interview and there was definitely coaching, but where is the line drawn between actually telling a story and REALLY being concerned with other battered women, and simply trying to paint an IMAGE. Yes, Rihanna is a victim, as was I. But there is just something about this interview that just does not sit well with me.

It is amazing at some of the comments about what happened that night are coming from the mouth of people who were not even in the car. You were not there, so shut the hell up. Nobody knows exactly what happened but the two of them. And there are always three sides of a story. His, hers and the truth. No woman deserves to be beaten. Period. What Chris should have done (excuse him, he’s young) was gotten out of the car and walked away and left her sitting there. Period. I don’t care how much she provoked him (if she did). Rihanna really NEVER disappear since the beat down. Isn’t that interesting *kink*. She has sold her soul to the industry because her talent can’t substain her as it has for Celine, Whitney, Mariah, Alicia Keys, Beyonce, and Tina Turner.
Never in history of black music have a black female with no talent just beauty has made it long term. NEVER. Black people respect talent female singer. Rihanna is just wack. She is beautiful no doubt but she is not and will never be a respectfully singer.

So Rhi & CB staged her getting her butt kicked by him for money? Who are “these” people? See I have never met you and I already understand that you are one of those I can’t do or get this because the “man” is holding me down. Take the situation for what it is and understand that speaking out about publically about you being beaten and beating your girlfriend up is embarressing. Everyone is on here saying that she is doing this to promote her album, so she is just trying to get good record sales which is a half truth. We all know that she woould have had to promote her album because it is more than likely apart of her contract with her recording company, in addition any interview that she did would have been the first since the incident and all of the media interviewing her would have asked her every question they could think of about that night. So her PR people are doing what they know is neccessary for her to move past this, which is address the incident do the interview and then promote promote promote. See the problem is most of you have no common sense when it comes to making money and sustaining a brand. Go get educated honey, and I suggest you start reading between the lines; if you can’t read between the lines of life there will be no lessons learned.

I was in a relationship that was physically abusive for 6 years and I work in the entertainment industry. I always considered myself really strong and wise, but this was something so unexplainable and so embarassing. I would not wish this type of situation on my worst enemy. So as a former victim of abuse I really feel this interview is contrived. She is not wrong for speaking out and telling her truth. Rhianna and Chris are both very young and very immature. I think they both made mistakes with this matter of the heart and the situation went totally awry. Sure Chris seems to be trying to continue his career but it seem that Rhianna is using this situation to her advantage because she understands clearly the stigma attached to men that abuse women. The music industry is very divisive and shady. They do not see the world and situations the way normal people do so people do. They will do any for money even exploit your mother.
This all angers me as a former victim because this is too serious for you to make it a platform when you think you will gain from it. Bottomline her and Chris both need extensive counseling. I am m

First, bottom line it’s Rihanna’s life, ain’t shit of my opinion nor fact of the world can change what’s happen, what couldve’ been prevented with her or anyone else’s future who intell this. We live and we have to learn from our mistakes. Take life for what it comes for. You are your own person…..
BUT….
Smh, truly a SAD day…. …because here we have a COMPLETE bunch of “groupies and know-it alls” (with theories of: I think my comment is insightful and educational….so let me SAY THIS” ALL complaining & needlessly agrueing about the “ignorance” of another women’s comment on a “GOSSIP BLOG” (one pertaining the concept of any and everything goes” Re some “pop star” who’s basically decided to finally come out of hiding and shed some LIGHT on her pass mistake…according to HOW she FEELS she’s helping someone (in some kind of a way) in their life.
YET in the midst of every other lady calling EACH OTHER’S foolish out, ALL still seem remain captivate to a community they feel is NOT of INTELLIGENCE. Basically, none of you are any better then the other. Clearly, if it’s SO ignorant and you don’t agree with each other why keep chattin’ and rantin in each other’s ear trying to convince the other?!. The hell sense does that make?! Not Of course most people aren’t going to get YOUR POINT, nor MINE…it’s the mindset of most society , meaning YOUR/MY “freedom of speech” is relevant and irrevelant to someone who can relate…….
Long run it’s just going to continue in a fuss and disagreement. Perhaps, instead of callin each other a BITCH, delunsional, piece of shit, 100% ignorance of the black population or brainless…how about everyone just start saying; Agree to disagree. remember no one can agrue you without your consent.

@JOY First of all MY mother doesn’t get in relationships with men she has to put her hands on and vice versa. I, in no way justify a man hitting a woman as I do a woman hitting a man. We all don’t have ALL the facts so every1 draws their own views.u don’t me honey I suppport all people esp women. If it were my sista acourse I feel her pain but u have to also give tough talk to people u luv @times. I luv my sista & if she has anger issues & can’t control her emotions when there’s a disagreement with a man YES ima let her kno. I aint tellin her that to take his side I’m tellin her this so when she leaves him she can better her chances of finding real love with a real man. Women should stand up for their self but at the end of the day u have to look in the mirror & say WHAT DO I NEED TO DO WITH MYSELF so I can slim my chances of running up on a fool like him. Women hit men allll the timme! I’ve seen women hitting men while they walk away but we don’t jump on that. Cause their stronger men suppose to walk away? Easier said than done if some1 hittin u while u being the bigger person. Not saying she did that but in our community This happens often.

“Luvinriri” if you spend more time actually thinking and less time trying to reply to every single post about riri then you will be saving me the time of replying to your comment. You said “You could’ve saved this comment–let me ask you a question–WOULD U RATHER HER NOT SPEAK OUT AT ALL?? She doesn’t need to capitalize on her celebrity–Rihanna doesn’t have anything to lose and everything to gain. She was genuine. Stop judging.”
The answer to your question, the situation would have been a lot better if she had made a statement copy that not speak out but a statement thanking her fans for the support, and actually passing a message across to other “young gals” has she claims that if you are invovled in a domestic violence that you should get out of it and as for her she will try to get over the incident with the support of her family, friends and fans and that every one should respect her privacy at this time would have been a simple enough statement for her to make and for her to move on with her life, but her coming now and trying to act the victim and talking about younger gals in her shoes is just plain stupid.
I know it must have taken her a long time to get ova the whole incident and might have just want to pretend the whole thing didn’t happen and have her privacy and I respect her for that but what is really pissing me off and my point exactly is if she cared so much about other young gals going thru what she went thru and the impact she has on their lives she wuld have said something a long time ago not now.
She can give any other reason but not that but I respect her hustle tho.

You people really have to learn “indifference”!
What’s goes on in these celebs lives really should not matter 2 you one way or another. What you eat don’t make them sh*t and vice versa…this is a job to them nothing more…anything else that comes along is just par 4 the course…you think they love you and care about any of you..you are sadly mistaken. Money talks all else walks…if any of you have Twitter you can see how they force feed themselves to us each and everyday..hoping we latch on and make their pockets fatter…and of course we buy into it. I have over the years learned that indiffernce is what works…making comments and giving them my time and energy is a grand waste of time…they don’t care what you say…they care what u spend. And right now a lot of you are SPENDING precious energry and time on something that has NOTHING to do with you…So let Rhianna & Chris live their lives…at the end of it all there will be only 1 true Judge and we all know who that is!
Peace & Blessings!

ALL OF THEM FROM TERRY MCMILLAN’S NUT CASE, TO LISA RAYE’S AND TO EVERYONE OF THEM THAT EVER GOT INVOLVED WITH AN AMERICAN CHRISTIAN PERSON WHO TRIED TO LOVE ON THEIR DEVIL WORSHIPPING AZZES. THEY DON’T RESPECT GOOD TREATMENT. YOU KICK THEM IN THEIR SORRY AZZES AND YOU’LL GET RESPECT. CHRIS SHOULD HAVE HAD ANOTHER GIRL DO IT. HE WAS TOO YOUNG TO KNOW THAT. HE WAS TRYING TO GET HIS SELF FREE, BUT YOU CANT SHAKE THEM OFF UNTIL THEY’RE DONE USING YOU. THAT’S WHEN THEY GET DANGEROUS. I SAW IT COMING LAST YEAR. I KNEW SHE WAS GOING TO TRY TO TAKE THE BOY DOWN WHEN HE WOKE UP AND REALIZED THAT HE WAS SLEEPING WITH THE DEVIL.
HE CAN OVERCOME THIS IF HE IS REAL CAREFUL, KEEP WORKING HIS GRIND, DONT RESPOND, AND KEEP A LOW PROFILE.

@lshelle the girl was reliving the moment, which was a very hurtful one to her. Her music video has nothing to do with her personal life. Like Steve Harvey and other people in the public eye say, people seem to forget your human. NOt because she is singing a song about hard means she should walk around acting hard. Chris brown never sang a song about beating a woman, but yet he did. Its entertainment. TOO bad for people who can’t decipher the difference between entertainment and real life.

Wow. Some of you, I hesitate to even say women, comments are just dispicable. How do you mock this girl’s sincerity in speaking publicly about something that any decent human being would find humiliating. This girl was beaten and this episode was publicized to the entire world. Who the hell gives a care about her timing for speaking on this matter. Physical abuse is wrong on so many levels. Some of you really need to examine yourselves and determine why you seem to be glorifying the abuser. Have you forgotten that Chris Brown confessed to abusing her? Also where are you getting your information from regarding that she attacked him. I must have missed his battered faced being photographed and subsequently posted on every gossip and legitimate new sites worldwide for the public’s review and consumption. There is something very wrong with us as a women of color when we accept this sort of behavior and attack the vitim. SMH
OnNov 5, 2009 at 12:05 pm (Quote) | Reply |
Girl please, I am very intuned with the difference between entertainment and reality. The question is, are you? Because if you are, you would know that there is a very fine line between the two that is sometimes blurred and often-times crossed. Brown does not have to make a song about beating a woman NOR does Rihanna have to put out a song about being a victim. HOWEVER, as artist, they are full aware that the things they do and say and SING about do shape the minds of their listeners. That’s why they have publicits and managers and handlers to take care of matters. Truth is, Rihanna (the woman), may have gone back to Chris - which she did. But Rihanna (the entertainer) learned that was bad for her image — which are the words that came out of her own mouth! This is why the interview is phony to me, because the motivation is false! It’s about her image and nothing else. Save other girls from abuse… MY ASS!!!

People need to stop this BS about Rihanna using this incident as a publicity stunt for her album. I remember on Real Housewives of Atlanta, Nene spoke out about her domestic violence in Season One and I remember Lisa was supporting Nene.
Move forward to 2009, guess who decides to speak out about DV in the wake of the Rihanna beat down? Lisa. She decided that it was the right time for her to speak out about her experiences with DV. Lisa was in denial for so long that it took the Rihanna beat down by Psycho Brown for her to admit to her own abuse.
It is embarrassing for the victim to admit to DV because everyone looks at you as being weak and helpless for letting a man hit you. It’s not easy to admit something so private to the world.

FIRSTLY LET ME SAY THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH “CARIBBEAN WOMEN OR PPL” IT IS A RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN A WOMAN AND A MAN IT DOESNT MATTER WHERE YOU COME FROM.
NOW IN THE DEFENCE OF CARIBBEAN PPL, THE ONLY COUNTRY THAT PRACTICES VOODOO IS HAITI, ALL OTHER CARIBBEAN COUNTRIES ARE “CHRISTIAN” COUNTRIES AND WE DO NOT PRACTICE VOODOO.
WE ARE NOT JEALOUS OF AMERICAN WOMAN OR PPL, YES SOMETHINGS YOU HAVE ARE BETTER, BUT LET ME REMIND YOU WE ALL ORIGINATED FROM AFRICA AS SLAVES….YOU ARE NO BETTER THAN US …SOME OF YOU WERE BROUGHT TO USA OTHERS TO THE CARIBBEAN, THERE IS NO NEED FOR THE UNNECESSARY NEGATIVE COMMENTS ABOUT CARIBBEAN PPL.
ITS ABOUT WORLD UNITY I WOULD THINK THAT AS AN AMERICAN (THE ONE COUNTRY IN THE WORLD THAT HAS THE MOST NATIONALITES THAT MAKE UP AMERICAN THE ONLY TRUE NATIVES BEING THE INDIAN WHO YOU ALL UNFAIRED) WOULD UNDERSTAND THAT.
PLEASE STOP THE CARIBBEAN WOMEN BASHING..

@msbliss I highly doubt anyone purposely gets into a relationship with someone who is abusive. Secondly your comments don’t make sense. All im saying is a man is a man, no we don’t know what Rihanna did but we don’t know what other stuff Chris did too. Youre making it seem like u understand both sides but youre still insinuating tht Rihanna had to have did something to provoke him. And believe me I know very well that women hit men, I have to adult brothers ive seen it with my own eyes. But I also know my mother and father raised my brothers to have respect and admiration for a woman that they don’t hve it in them to hit a woman back. If Rihanna was so aggresive why didnt chris walk away. Im quite sure Chris’ mom raised him better than tht and u would think seeing wht his mom went through he would avoid any situation like tht. Were all human, i wish him the best but in no way should Rihanna be blamed for Chris losing control and acting like a lil boy rather than a man, sorry.

Wow, it’s sad you don’t see the ignorance of your statement. I have plenty of friends from the islands who are nice, genuine people. On the flip side, there are people of all races that aren’t nice people. It’s cool to say we’re different because of our cultures but you can’t say all Caribbean people are evil just like you can’t say all black Americans are good. And I don’t know if you’ve heard, but Oprah doesn’t have a prime time show. When Whitney did her 20/20 interview with Diane a few years ago, did she not choose to do that over a daytime show which Oprah has? Everything can’t be about race or ethnicity. Learn that.

@AmericanHaters … ignorance is bliss … if you know better then you would say better … it is those same Caribbeans that clean up the shits of your parents and love it because it is a paying job and they also do it well. Go take a survey and you will find the stats to be in my favor. It is those Caribbeans that clean people’s houses and take care of their children …. Take for example Tori Spelling. It is those foreigners who make your lives easier some who are prominent in politics or who were born from the loins of parents who are of that heritage who work hard and taught them the same ethics. It is many of those Caribbeans who consistently do a thorough jobs in your hospitals system etc etc …. Dr. Murray is an unfortunate incident of pure negligence. I guarantee you that it could happen to anyone. Why? All those freaking American doctors that surround M.J. who help him drug himself to stupor … those shit don’t happen in the Caribbean so blatantly or so illegally. In America you get away with all the buffoonery. Dr. Murray was an idiot but Dr. Klein and all those other American doctors, they are criminals.
What Rihanna is doing to Chris is looking very wrong but blame her team … which includes her big brothers Jay-Z and Kanye West and her big sister Beyonce … As you well know Jay-Z is being called out as being a very shroud business man who thinks for himself so what makes you think that he is not teaching Rihanna the same formula to help her with her career.
I digress … I can’t take idiots online.

Whether she has an album, fashion line, or the whole damn world to promote..SHE HAD TO TALK EVENTUALLY. Yes she spoke when her album is about to drop, but so damn what. Chris had to apologize immediately because HE WAS IN THE WRONG (as evidenced when he ran away from the scene and was found guilty in court). I feel bad for Rihanna because she was abused, and she is younglady who has had to endure it in the public eye.
Some of you on here are women and you can’t sympathize with another woman when all the facts are right in front of you. Rihanna may not be your favorite person, but even if you detest her, try to have a heart and remember that you, your daughter, your neice, or any other woman in your family can go through this. Don’t have an empty head and a cold heart.

It’s clear from this interview that Rihanna could have said that she was the agressor in the relationship and she was the one busting Chris’s A** until he retaliated, and the media would still defend her and make excuses for her behavior.
Sadly, while we are focusing all this attention on Rihanna there are real DV issues slipping through the cracks but the media is too busy focusing all their attention on this piece of drama. So, they can turn into a piece for tv ratings. IMO, Rihanna is no more a victim than Crhis is…SMH

@Vanessa … pure ignorance like I said … you people make no sense whatsoever. I have no words for your ignorance but this; I thought Caribbean countries were 3rd world countries which means that some of the people who come here and do the things you blame them for, they didn’t have the wealth to get it at first so I wonder how did they earn that wealth and power? How did drugs get into your neighborhoods from foreign countries through your airports, into the ghetto and suburbia? Hmmm I wonder? Such power we Caribbeans have but yet we can’t prevent America from coming into our countries and ruining our lives. I wish more intelligent people would comment instead of ignorant individuals.
Tell your American men and women that they shouldn’t travel across borders and live in those Caribbean countries and build lives their lives there. Tell them they shouldn’t purchase islands or feast with the people then use them and abuse them and leave them to return to their own countries.
Speak intelligently people.

Why can’t we agree to disagree instead of name calling & labeling people cause they don’t agree with you? I am not a fan of either & just because I & many others chose to say be Fair instead of jumping on Team Ri were labeled “delusional chris brown groupies” ha! I don’t even listen to the dude let alone follow him like a puppy. What is controversial about being fair & saying she made mistakes as well. People are so quick to put their 2 cents in but want take time to listen. Just cause your younger/older doesn’t mean you have no knowledge than the next person. I’ve met 15 year olds with more wisdom & insight than 30 & 50 year olds. I call it how I see it. There’s a lot “delusional” rihanna fans who would rather kill their mother than punch their mama*no pun intended* than whisper a bad word about riri lol. I haven’t seen one comment where some1 said she deserved it or YAY chris beat rihanna. I see some who feel she was deeply battered, some who hate ri,some who hate chris,& some who are not biased & see wrong in both party.but maybe I skipped it but I saw no1 team chris. Every1 accepts he DID wrong.HELLO?? BUT rihanna the poor victim some different on. Doesn’t mean their not educated or crazy. We all left Africa on Boats, but ended up at different ports. So again what makes you better than a caribbean person, since you origniated where they originated. Many people of caribbean descent alongside Black Americans helped to build this county that you are now touting as yours. Please stop acting like you are better than caribbean people because when it all comes down to it, We are all Africans and no matter how you try to explain it away, you can’t deny that.

oh yea I totally forgot Chris Brown was doing an interview with MTV that’s gonna air tomorrow. And wasn’t he the one that said in the Angie Martinez interview that he wasn’t going to speak about it anymore? I think that yes, Rihanna provoked the incident in the car by going through his phone but he didn’t have to beat her. Like he said in the interview, his actions were brought on my anger. So obviously there was alot of behind the scenes fighting and arguing in their relationship that we don’t know about. She obviously has trust issues and that’s why she went through his phone. So instead of picking sides and pointing who is wrong[in my opinion, both of them are wrong..but for different reasons], we should just pray that they both get the help that they need. Because now that they have both said their sides of the story, we should just let it rest…
OHH and another thing- did yall hear about the twitter message Perez Hilton sent to Chris Brown this morning? It said “Just want to remind you what a disgusting subhuman you are. Lower than shit! But you already know that - or you should!” umm ima need Perez to sit down before he gets knocked out again..

She does not need to use divisive tactics to sell albums her album is gonna sale it’s a fact she can speak whenever she wants to speak she coulda came out 5 years from now it’s nobody’s business what her motives were the ore important thing was that she spoke and this is a topic that needs to be addressed so women can start to get out of these relationships PERIOD!! @American Haters … I laugh at your ignorance … I guess you don’t travel that often to know that what you guys consider to be living a luxury lifestyle “House” for example, we are living that lifestyle. We have had those experiences before we got here … it is the same misconception you people have about Africa and Africans why because the American government choose to build up your egos by making you all feel better than us through visible images of only the poverty that is there and not the wealth. You are so stupid.
As for us needing you guys more than us … check the facts honey … your lazy asses don’t like to work and guess what it comes out of your own people’s mouth in the media and also my American friends. Blame your government and your people idiot not Caribbeans for the mess that happens in your lives. This country is so emotional that you can use that as a form of trickery for sympathy while living the hard knocks life as a foreigner from any 3rd world country; Africa, some Asian countries, the Caribbean, South America etc train us to push your buffoonery aside and live and succeed on top of you all. If you were educated then you would know the history of our contribution to this country and also the history of America’s contribution to other countries including the Caribbean … if you did the ignorance you spit out of your mouth, you would choke on it instead.
Most of the Beaches that are in this country are highly polluted than those in the Caribbean or South America or Africa that is why people are pushed to travel for that purpose outside of the U.S. I guess you were unaware of that stats … It is this ignorance that Americans have that make then unwise in their speeches and ignorant in their rants.
America claim to be so powerful financial etc yet they have the biggest debt to the IMF. Child go sit down and get down off that fake pedestal with your poor ranting.
Being a religious jerk off is not good either … You would be defending ignorance as well as spitting it out of your mouth. What a contradiction?

OH MISS THING!!!
I’m wondering if your man has already gone upside your head! Is that why you are so outraged by me and NJ Shoegal? Well, sweetie, let me tell you a few things then I’m done with this. First of all where in any of my comments did you read that I hate Rihanna? On the contrary, I was actually a fan and even stated (in my first comment) that I WAS going to buy her album but now I feel duped. So perhaps you should take that ice pack off your eye and re-read my comments. You see honey, people can have opinions without hating someone and that’s all it was — MY OPINION! It’s not jealousy or “hating” as so many people like to oversue these days. Secondly, honey, any one with half a brain knows that music does not influence EVERYONE, but it does influence SOME. Especially our youth and these “young young girls” as Rihanna put it, who she claims she is trying to save now — after recording a song bascially glorifying suicide. But, it’s JUST art and entertainment, right?! Well I ask you dear Marci, how many time has REAL LIFE imitated art?! Too many tragic times to mention! So don’t sit here and tell me that I - as a woman, as a mother, and as a sister of a young girl who DIED at the hands of her boyfriend do not have the right to question the true motives behind Rihanna’s sad interview. I lived with the horror of having my 16 year old sister stabbed to death by her 19 year old boyfriend, so I know what I’m talking about! And I also have worked in the Entertainment business and KNOW that publicists and managers will spin ANYTHING for the benefit of their client’s image! So again, you can play naieve and eat this garbarge that Rihanna is “opening up” to tell her story, but the reality is that she’s doing this to sell her album! So in that regard, I agree with you on one thing, Rihanna is doing what’s best for her… HER CAREER! You can sit there and cry with her all you want, while the rest of us will simply take it for what it is and call it for what it is…
And for the record, I have a loving husband of 11 years who has barely raised his voice at me - let alone a fist.

Wow at some of the comments. Bottom line, if Rihanna doing this interview saves ONE girl from domestic violence, if ONE girl decides no more, then that’s what it is all about. Chris Brown whooped her ass and the reality is alot of girls WILL look at the way she handles the situation and make a determination based on that. Sounds silly, but it is what it is. I am sure Rihanna is a little firecracker, but it don’t make it right.
Personally, I think the timing of it all sucks for Chris Brown. But he made his bed, so he has to lay in it. Period.
I wish them both the best.

I saw the snippet and the tears started to flow, its been 2 yrs since i got out of that relationship but the pain is still there. Today i am happy and free from all the drama, i don’t care if she spoke the day after or today, i don’t care if she has an album coming out or not, the most important part is that she is saying something. Bloggers are meant to blog and its sad that most times the comments get as nasty as they do but for people like me, we welcome this interview. I used to think that females who were in domestic violence situations were stupid, i used to think they were weak until it happened to me. I can guarantee that her msg will reach the right persons (ppl in the same situation) and if even if it helps only one of them thats a wonderful thing. Both Chris and Rhianna need to seek help for anger management. Domestic violence is very serious and shouldn’t be taken lightly. From what I’ve read (from credible media sources) about their relationship, Chris & Rhianna fought each other… which means they BOTH are to blame for what happened in their relationship. Violence is violence and should be viewed the same, whether it’s man beating woman, woman beating man, or man & woman beating one another. Obviously their relationship was a violent one (please remember that the judge gave both Chris & Rhianna a stay away order; meaning he’s to stay away from her, and she’s to stay away from him) & again, they both need to seek counseling for anger management. I fear what’s happening in this discussion is some women think it’s okay to be violent towards a man, & that the man should under no circumstances hit a woman. We are ALL human; we ALL have a breaking point. No one should be provoked to anger, man or woman. Bottomline, both Rhianna & Chris are at fault for what happened in their relationship and should seek help.
That said, while Rhianna is speaking about the violence Chris dished out on her, she should be woman enough to speak about what she dished out on him (if you read the reports, he too had bruises; we just didn’t see the pictures). Personally, I would respect her more if she would be honest and say that they fought one another.

WOOOWWWW…. After reading these comments I couldnt resist saying this. THEY BOTH WERE WRONG!!! They were in a toxic relationship, contrary to what some of you believe RIRI is abusive herself and clearly she doesn’t recognize her role. How he handled it was wrong but everyone has their breaking point, just like a woman who gets fed up and fights back. Its an unfortunate situation and yes some light does need to be shed on violent relationships, they are NOT good, PERIOD! If you want to bring attention to Domestic Violence then let someone who is truly in such situation (like my mom–whom I watched get abused, or Tina Turner or any of the people who actually live in it every day) speak on it, Rihanna should definitely not be the spokesperson.

Everyone keeps saying her role in the situation. Where is the proof that she hit him? I didnt see any bruises on Chris. oops I apologize I did the bruises on his knuckles from beating her face in. This whole situation shows how the ideas of domestic abuse are so backwards. The sad thing is that these are young people with these opinions. I would chalk it up to old age but some of you are under 30. A MESS!!!
So she “provoked” him as some of you say. You lose you got beat by a girl you win you still beat up a girl. your still a loser. Get some self esteem ladies.
As for a publicity stunt Chris has been up and down with his half ass interviews for months jumping in music videos and jet skiing and the only time the victim speaks out she is doing it for a stunt. Yes she has an album coming out so this is the only time she has to speak about. She cant promote the album without answering these questions. Its best that she puts it to bed now so she can go on with her career.
Some of you are so sad.
OnNov 5, 2009 at 4:16 pm (Quote) | Reply |
Rihanna needs me to be her PR piece right now because she needs to hit a few nails on the head when she does this interview. For one, she needs to accept and admit her part in the situation. No one is perfect and we all know she wasn’t sitting at home baking cookies when Chris attacked her. Something happened and things elevated and they took it too far. She better own up to her half of this. Not saying she warranted it but, she can’t try to play the innocent victim. I get the feeling they have had a very volatile relationship for some time now.
Secondly, she needs to address why she decided to tell her story NOW. Cause to many, it will look like she’s on a PR stint and trying to drum up publicity for her new album so the message she’s trying to send will go right over everyone’s head.

And the number 1 reason they don’t come out and talk about it publicly is because of the stupid ass, ignorant, idiotic comments I have read here today. You people are a disgrace! I can’t imagine what it must be like for either of them, I am not a fan of either of them so won’t be buying thier album anyway just hope they both get help. I don’t like it that she says she helping other girls, wasn’t the fight like a year ago? She didn’t do nothing but party and the only reason they are not back together is cos it will be career suicide

RiRi, please! Just stop! So, I guess it’s just a co-inkydink that you have a cd coming out the same time you want to “protect” young girls who look up to you!?! I love you, RiRi, but come on, boo! Keep it real!

I feel sorry for what happened to her but why does she look all different? Wearing white and not having her vampy makeup. It’s a complete turnaround of everything she is putting out musically.
As to those Caribbean Haters… Shut the f**k up and go sit somewhere. Black America was fucked way before we ever got here. Black America need to step up there game. At my university out of the 13% of black people, 9% are Caribbean or are African Internationals.

F this whole situation. It’s over and they were both wrong. I will be copping that new Chris Brown, but not the Rihanna (I refuse to take responsibility for my part )album.

BITCH PLEASE !
your a gorgeous young lady and no woman should have to endure what you went through….however i find it EXTREMELY convinient that you chose now to speak on the matter….i sympathize with you but i would have sympathized with you MORE had you spoke on it earlier and not right before BOTH OF YOU ARE ABOUT TO DROP ALBUMS

Good Morning America needed an exclusive interview for ratings purposes and Rihanna needed to promote her album. That’s what this is all about.
And it is complete BS to pretend that this interview is about shedding light on domestic violence. Yes the incident did occur, but this interview is 100% promo. Period.
OnNov 5, 2009 at 5:20 pm (Quote) | Reply |
This happen over a year ago, and if she was so consern about the young girls. Then why she never visit no centers or outreach programs to those who done had the same experince of domestic violence as she. I guess she will right a book about next and then a movie. It’s all publicity to me. I am sorry for her experince of domestic abuse, but why now? Oh she needs to pump up the hype for her new album, I will pray for her. But i am still not buying that depressing and dark melody album. With all the stuff going on in this world we need music to make us feel good and like shit is going to be alright. Not mucsic so gloomy and dark that make you want to kill yourself.I will just play my old albums of hers. Deuces!

I DO NOT IN ANY FORM ENCOURAGE DOMESTIC VIOLENCE…HOWEVER, SHE NEEDS TO SPEAK ON HOW SHE COULDNT KEEP HER HANDS TO HERSELF AS WELL. TWO WRONGS DONT MAKE A RIGHT BUT SHE IS NOT TOTALLY INNOCENT! CHRIS DESERVES HIS PUNISHMENT BUT I THINK SOCIETY TAKES A WOMAN HITING A MAN TO LIGHTLY.I THINK SHE IS DOING THIS TO STOP HIS ALBUM FROM SELLING.

Wow.. everyday the posting get more and more riduculous
I like Rihanna but I do think its ironic that she has a album dropping and this interview is coming out around the sametime.. but I guess if anyone should make some money and get some publicity off of this incident it should be the one that took the ass whupping.
Violence is a two way street… men should not hit women but by no means does that give a woman a license to haul off and hit a man… Women who do hit men do so with the belief that he wont hit back because of some men being the stronger sex code but you never know when a person has reached the limit.. and one day your hands might write a check your ass cant cash.. that being said .. lets stick to the old playground rule .. KEEP YOUR HANDS TO YOURSELF..
And this Carribean VS. American beef.. Let it go folks both places have their own set issues.. Stop prescribing to the “crab” mentality…. smh

kay soo im 16 and in no way am i a manger fan of rihanna or chris i just feel like there are three sides to this story..her side, his side, and the truth…..
she seems hurt…and that’s sad,but we have to understand along with the hurt she feel comes basis…i cnt imagine what her or chris feel..i just pray that they become at peace with themselves…
most importantly it is not our right to judge them…
*side note* idk what girls would follow her lead and go back to their man…every situation is different so i dnt think its fair to judge all domestic violence situations by this one..idk maybe there are girls that would follow her..and to me that is sad because 16 or not ima make my own decisions…have a blessed night
OnNov 5, 2009 at 6:39 pm (Quote) | Reply |
i find it soo crazyhow chris tried to protecther in his interview yet she wants to play the victim in hers.. he never mentiond the fact that she provoked him.. the way and to the extent that he beat her is totally unacceptable but so is the way she out her hands on him and she needs to acknowledge that.. not just throw him under the bus..
OnNov 5, 2009 at 6:43 pm (Quote) | Reply |
wow… I can truly relate to where she is coming from having been there myself when I was like these dumb teen girls commenting on here, but like most of us grown women you do..or should I say you should learn from your pain and it doesn’t matter to me when she chose to speak about it because that is completely irrelevant, she handled herself like a true lady, wearing revealing clothing does not make you a slut (and you chicks w/issues w/that obviously aren’t old enough to dress yourself w/out following school dress codes lol or don’t have the right body to wear cute clothes anyway).great job rihanna, keep it up

Truer words were rarely spoken- something seems odd on both ends but its important to consider that both have issues and need help. they are toooo young to be engaging in domestic violence…it’s all around sad….

I AGREE. With All Respect RIRIh .. F*** THAT!! You made a decision to influence young Girl then you sing a song About “Pull the Trigger” Are you kidding??? WE NOT STUPID!!! And ye, … dont forget to mention that you HIT CB FIRST !!!!! LIAR!!!!

Why do i feel like Jay Z sat down with her and put her up to this. She wasn’t thinking bout being a spokesperson before Jay Z got in her ear. I’m saying this because this is what he said on Oprah. Idk. I feel bad for her and Chris.

Rihanna is FULL OF SHIT!!! I CAN SEE RIGHT THROUGH THIS CHICK.
Poor Ri Ri my ass. Notice how Rihanna neglects to talk about her anger issues as well — something she previously discussed in another interview. Check out the conversative dress she chose to wear for this interview: how convenient! And why is it that she waited until her album drops to talk about it?
OnNov 5, 2009 at 9:04 pm (Quote) | Reply |
Rihanna is so bogus..her new album has all kinds of Satanic messages in it..where is the concern for young people there? This is just a publicity stunt and I DO NOT RESPECT HER
OnNov 5, 2009 at 9:10 pm (Quote) | Reply |
You and all these other mutherf*ckers blaming Rihanna really need help!!!! I dont know what kind of she-males yall are but a woman hitting a man does not compare to a man hitting a woman! Regardless of what she did or how much she “provoked” him he should of been a man and walked away from the situation. I would of even understood him dragging her out of the car and pulling off on her ass but to do what he did to her face is unexusable and yall are really getting on my last f*cking nerve saying otherwise! What kind of households did yall grow up in????? It’s really sad that yall feel a man has any right to EVER put his hands on a woman…God help all of yall!!!!!!!!!!

Trick please!!! If you cared so much about young girls that look up to you, you would not have waited a year to speak out!! You wasnt worried about young girls while you were street walking and club hopping little hoochie!! Im sorry she is such an fraud!! Not justifying what Chris did because he was super wrong but she seems to be fake as hell!!! And I once was a fan of hers but not anymore!!
OnNov 5, 2009 at 10:25 pm (Quote) | Reply |
Exactly!!!! this trick has issues. Who would give a tv interview and make a statement like “f love”. What is that to say???? I cant even force myself to feel sorry for her!!

Damn…i felt the emotion but still she know she beat up on Chris if she says something about it then maybe I’ll fully feel this…i believe a part of her is telling the truth and being real but the other half is ran by the machine(music buzz) and is full of ish.

One question… Rihanna wants young girls to know that Domestic Violence is not ok (I commend her for that), but she has a song title Russian Roulette about suicide???? Did I miss something???? So let me get this right Rih Rih… violence from one person to another is not good, but self inflicted violence is ok?

The pedestal that Rhianna is referring to is when the public became outraged and immediately jumped to her defense. The public didn’t think twice about holding –both– persons responsible for their actions. Rhianna gets the perks and treatment because she is simply a woman. Will she ever admit to her lewd behavior toward Chris? Of course not. Why? Because as she said, people have put her on this grand pedestal. She IS human and is certainly her business. I don’t believe she would’ve left if –we– were not so involved in this bullshit ass of a situation. But you know…she’s obviously making most of the situation by continuing to play victim and get the perks from that.
I’m so over it man…
LoL @ the stans.

All of you women are killing me. As a black woman, I’m ashamed to read the way we’re attacking each other AND Rihanna. Many of you think she’s giving the interview to promote the album. ‘Why didn’t she talk earlier?’ is what a lot of you are saying. She didn’t have to give an interview and she seems like she was legitimately confused by her love for Brown, even after he beat her. She’s giving the interview now because she knows every news organization in the world will ask her about it. Diane Sawyer is known as a “softball” interviewer in the industry, so Rihanna got to set her own terms.
What matters most is the fact that she’s sharing a truthful (in my opinion) story of abuse that a lot of young women can learn from. It doesn’t matter is this happened in February or in November; she’s doing it now.
Did Rihanna hit Chris? It sounds like she probably did. From this whole situation, she’s learned *never* to do that again. Just like he’s learned not to beat down women.
Lastly, as long as we are beating up on each other, physically and verbally, we will never accomplish much. Rather than questioning the motives around the timing of her interview, let’s address the bigger issue: stopping domestic violence.

lol co-cosign. I’m def. copping that Chris, never was a fan of Rihanna (I refuse to take responsibility for my part), chick just can’t sing period. Yeah sometimes I do want to be entertained as well but is it too much to ask for real singing these days?… Ne hoo did any one watch the full interview yet? When Rihanna was asked if she hit Chris or did anything to provoke him her reply was, “And if I did does that make him right?” Chick hasn’t answered the question yet. I’m not saying that her hitting him makes his actions justified, but it does rule out her comments about him looking as if he he had no soul and what not… Dude didn’t hit you cus he had no soul, he hit you because you hit him first! Granted some dudes have enuff self control that when a woman hits them they don’t hit her back and they just try to restrain her in some way and some dudes have to develop that.. What we learn from this experience is that they are both human and make mistakes, bt at least Chris was man enuff to own up to his. Now Rihanna needs to own up to her part! ….And thats my 5cents
