I have her first CD and that’s it. She’s is beautiful but let’s be honest, if she were Kelly Rowland Brown-skinned in complexion, her career would be over. Sorry folks but she is extremely pretty, light skin, and mixed so that carries you a hella lot longer in the music industry then if she were darker skinned with her type of talent. Light skin chicks with so-so talent – Mya, Amerie, Cassie, Ashanti, Vanity (back in her day), Rhianna, etc.

“Red Light” (if u like “thats what you are” from her third album, you’ll be def. feelin this one)
“More than Love”(the track is hot, the base sounds like Dre produced it)
“The Flowers” (Its an easy like. And its funny cuz her complaints are legitamite, but in all, it jus sounds like she’s the type who gets bored easy. I lol’d)
“Higher” (its of a rock genre)
“Different people” (we certainly are…)
“Swag Back” (yea the word is over used, but the song is really growin on me)

Lets not turn this into a complexion issue please! Everything that happens or is discussed doesnt warrant the whole “light skinned vs. dark skinned” thing. Amerie’s musical career is on thin ice although she is talented. So, technically, she is on the same category as Kelly rowland and the next “brown skinned” woman. Thank you. The light skin/dark skin issue makes me so uncomfortable. The light color of your skin is nothing that you can control, you can credit your parents for that. It is mostly within our own people that the division arises, like it’s some big prize. At the end of the day light skin people are ni@@azs in the eyes of the white man, trust me, 99.9% don’t see a difference at all (I’ll give up .1% for the people who will say some do) I am not going to pretend that there doesn’t seems to be a preference in videos, but who the hell wants to be a video chick? Let them idiot girls get exploited, they hardly ever get paid a damn cent anyway and everyone is on to them. And at the end of the day, mediocre “singers” will not make it, no matter what they look like!! At least not from my hard earned $$$.

I liked a few of her songs from when she started but on this album almost all the songs sound exactly the same. Her producers must’ve been lazy like “lets just keep the same beat & change up the lyrics a lil bit.” I might buy her album just to support her though.

Youre right. “She may never get to mega-stardom.” And it may be a good thing. In one aspect, it seems super fame taints artist, and they gradually get watered down and lame. Also too, she may not have to go the lengnths the mega stars must to reach and maintain the mega fame that the industry is very hush hush about. And like you said, “she still gets to do what she loves” without losin herself. Like your Jill Scotts, Heather Hanelys, and Chrisette Michelles.

Nothing spectacular about this photo spread in Elle (or Essence), or her clothes/shoes and definitely not her voice. She’s a cute girl, though. Here we go. I can name talented light skinned and dark skinned chicks who don’t get burn either…Tamia (hell of a talent, but isn’t marketed correctly anymore), Deborah Cox, Monica, Toni B, Chrissette Michelle, Tweet, and the list goes on. The point is that those women come in a variety of shades and their careers have either stalled out (Toni B), or not gotten the shine they deserver (Chrissette Michelle).
I hate, hate, hate that attitude that because someone is mixed, light or just pretty all around that they just get a pass over people who are none of the above. I’m sorry, but Amerie doesn’t get burn…and the only coverage she has gotten off her album thus far as been YBF. Be real.
