Very good interview. However, I heard that she was hitting him. Although that doesn’t excise Breezy’s behavior, it would have been good 4 her 2 own up to it. Rather than that, she looked ok ( not as pretty as I thought b/c she looks pretty in magazines and video’s) but cute girl. She spoke very well and seems really mature. I hate the hair….OMG, that shit is horrible. Again, great interview and pretty good details.

She did a great job by coming out, I first hand heard girls and guys in school believing if she stayed with him then it was ok for them to stay in their relationship. I know many women, whom i love who have been in abusive relationships and it hurts me to think of all the men and women being abused, if she helped at least one person walk away then her interview is not in vain. I would say this interview was a waste of time except it taught me alot about how phony this girl is. She contradicted herself so much it was a shame. Even though she seemed like she held back on some things and even lied about some others..like not having heard his recent songs and what not,….. for the most part, she came across as sincere to me.

Wow such forgiving people . One would think he kicked your personal azz after months of you slapping and scratching and cursing him out. BUT whoa, he didn’t..
He held you off, he apologized, he refused to argue, he left the building, he broke up with you, several times, yet you begged him back, you had your people call him up and BEG him to come back to you. You promised ! You promised you would never do it again, never ever. You broke your promise every single time. He of course is a young man who knows its wrong to hit anyone and never a woman, but when the woman attacks again, just one of many times, after saying the last time was the last time, one might snap, one might go overboard, months and months of anger bottled up, he only had his close friends to tell, his family was already saying leave her, but you know first love …is crazy, he tried.
Even after the court said no more, there was plenty more, in LA at the Sofitel, in Miami, even out of the country. Until you were convinced by those who live on your paycheck to do damage to him or lose your fans, your career, your image.

I’m a publicist and I’m not sure what to think except:
1. Chris Brown was wrong. There is never any denying that.
2. Rih may or may not have hit him. We don’t know that outside of gossip sites.
3. They both (including myself) work in an industry where malicious intentions to move units are not uncommon.
4. Chris can’t event respond to this because it will make him look even worse than he already does.
5. Both doing interviews at the same time is absolutely a means to move albums- pls don’t mistake that. Malicious? Who knows? But one thing is true: If he got his time to talk, then she rightfully should have hers.
6. This is one large spectacle that keeps gaining new life. The sad part is when ppl on the “team” continue to look for means of giving the sitch new life instead of looking for charitable, social justice-related outlets in which to move towards a positive light.
But I guess as my boss says “the media doesn’t like positive. They like entertainment, and that’s not always positive.”
I pray for them both in hopes that they make it through their own personal issues and emerge stronger, wiser and much more compassionate towards others.

I have 2 agree 2 disagree w/many of U, I say this bcuz I have been in a situation where I was verbally abused which lead me 2 foolishly fuel on a domestic violence situation. (ie;by Me hitting/slapping/spiting/ socking/ sh*t even stabbed) him. Understand this was over a decade + ago when I was 18 & although, I know No one deserves to be abused. I also know U can’t continue to attack someone verbally or physically whether male/female & NOT expect the other individual to respond in the same matter.
I did things to the individual where I abused him many times first. Bcuz at the time I was young & foolish enough to truly believe the only solution to solve a problem was 2 fight. So I am sure I pushed the individual to ‘black out’ & fight Me. Luckily 4 me I was physically strong enough to fight bk. & blessed enough to FINALLY leave that relationship. given I was in it 5yrs & we were around each other 24/7. I know personally,when U are young in love & ALWAYS around one another it gets to a point Of U dam# near are obsessed w/one another. It is NOT healthy! & I believe this is where a Chris/Rihanna situation starts. Lastly she mentioned her father abusing her mother & Chris has spoke on that 2. Sadly I saw this as a child. & I too know one way or another all children who have experienced seeing this eventually fall victim to being the abuser/victim later in life. the key is to learn from it in a positive matter. as far as this interview being done FOR publicity i don’t think that’s the case. i think she did this interview to get it out of the way so that she could move on and promote her album without having to answer questions about chris brown at every interview moving forward. give the chris brown story to one reputable journalist and HOPEFULLY move on and move forward. of course she was coached, every entertainer is coached. but i do feel that a lot of what she said was true and came to the heart.

Chris was dead wrong no doubt. He is paying the price, some would say he should be punished more, I cannot say. However it is really likely she is hiding something. The expressions on her face, her speech patterns and the things that were said about her behavior even before the incident makes it clear she is not the person she portrays.
And now she comes out, just before her album launch, to champion women’s rights and “protect the little girls”? BS. If she cared about anyone but herself, she would have done this a lot sooner. She would not be appearing on websites wearing see-through tops, bra-less. She would not be performing sexualized tracks to girls who are not ready for that kind of thing.

I watched all of Rihanna’s story…none of CB’s interview. Allow me to explain why:
Chris Brown’s PR & Management team needs a major overhall. I think it was very disrespectful that they would not allow Rihanna to have her moment alone speaking from her perspective without trying to distract people from watching her speak with the MTV interview. Don’t think the above average didn’t notice that sh*t! She didn’t try to counter at the same time on YouTube when Chris Brown’s YouTube video
was posted. Rihanna did not try to schedule rebutals on Larry King after Chris Brown went on. She allowed him to have his time. This is extremely distasteful, and very disrepectful to Rihanna in my opinion. It has pushed me away from wanting to purchase anything associated with his camp. Chris’ team is clearly focused on doing whatever it takes to increase sales, so they can continue sucking his blood. Chris is feeding a lot of, obviously, greedy industry folks, trust me.
I understand Chris is merely doing what he is being told. However, his team is failing him, whether he sales or not because they are actually damaging his character more. Real men know when to be silent, and when to speak. This was Rihanna’s time, and disperately trying to get their 2 cents in, at this juncture, is simply another slap in Rihanna’s face.
Also, don’t focus on the people who are making ignorant comments on here stating it was “Rihanna’s fault” etc. It’s crystal clear that these people are more than likely abusive as well, and those negative comments are a testiment to that. Trust that they too will reap what’s due for their ill words; GOD never misses a beat.
We are clearly living in times where so many young boys (in particular) have become the walking dead (reflecting on the gang rape of the 15yr old). This is another reason why filmmakers make so many films about “zombies” and the “walking dead.” It’s a reality in so many forms, and this situation is just another example of that reality.

I must be very old school for I was taught to never hit a man for he WAS physically stronger and if I did, expect to be hit back. Defending myself is one thing. Abusing a man because I am a woman and feeling I should get away with it, is another.
Some on here are actually encouraging DV. Upset at those who don’t share in their viewpoint of a man never having the right to defend himself from an abusive woman. What kind of message are we sending to our young people when we give a woman the green light to abuse a man just because he is physically stronger. Abuse is abuse. There are no two ways around it. Even animals instinctively defend themselves when they feel threatened or abused but a man is suppose to take a woman abuse because of some twisted belief that he is physcially superior to her. Yes, maybe Chris should have put Rihanna out the car but some of us would have called that abusive also and said he was WRONG for doing that.
This Rihanna/Chris incident is the perfect time for us, as adults, to educate our next generation on learning how to respect themselves and each other in a relationship. To teach them the signs of an abuser, male or female, and when to walk away from an abusive relationship; especially in the African American community. But instead, it has turned into a “no he didn’t” and “poor Rihanna” Soap Opera.
There is a common thread that runs through the mindset of an abusive person. They always feel well justified for their actions; even going as far as minimizing their behavior in the situation and shocked when their victims retaliates. After listening to Rihanna, I can tell she has abusive tendencies. Womem abusers get away with their act because as a society, we’re prone to look only at abuse from a female prespective. We tend to ignore the warning signs of an abusive female until it gets out of hand. As in the case with Rihanna and Chris. Then we blame the man and give the female the greenlight to go even harder on the next guy.
My advise to Chris is to stay away fom Rihanna and Rihanna stay away from Chris. And, both of you go seek some psychological help. It’s time to be honest to ourselves and stop the vicious cycle of REAL DV. Abusive tendencies do not discriminate. We need to start looking for the signs and stop just looking at the sexual orientation.

Speaking on the neutral side, neither one of them are right (especially not knowing her part. Reading all the comments lots of folks are in agreement, but I think that she was rehearsed in this interview. She didnt look sincere. Mostly I think some parts she was all out lying about. As Chris Brown media stints were rehearse too. They are kids being lead by an industry, that doesnt care about them. So what do you expect. Overall it was a bad situation, that got worst. I know everyone has been in love before and its a lot. So to be young, in the public eye, and in love it was a mixture for something bad to go wrong. Especially with both having abusive pasts. I’m tired of reading posts where people are dismissing her assault on him and jumping on the “he shouldn’t of hit her no matter what” wagon. Didn’t your parents ever tell you to keep your hands to yourself? I’m not condoning her behavior nor his, but no one should’ve been hitting ANYONE. I use to get upset when I was younger and I’d see girls slapping and hitting their boyfriends, thinking it was cute and cool. My mom always taught me to defend myself and never be taken advantage of. You can’t downplay the fact that Chris came from an abusive household which, statistically, proves that those raised in an abusive home tend to be abusers themselves. I’m glad that he is getting the counseling that he apparently needs, b/c he does have hidden demons that need to be addressed. I also think, if it’s true about her hitting him, that she should be in counseling as well and not out frolicking about and having her personal fashion show. In order for there to be personal growth, you need to learn from your mistakes and I definitely didn’t get that from this interview. I just pray they both can move forward productively.

My only concern with this interview is that i felt like it was more about how she felt about Chris than the issue of Domestic Violence. I don’t think that her words or her “fight” represents women who are beat by men, i think she supports angry women who do little things that end up building into bigger issues in relationships that cause or “add onto” friction in relationships.
She contradicted herself a couple of times in this interview, and i felt like she subliminal dogged Chris out when again this interview or the key words that this interview was surrounded around her being a visionary for young women. She didn’t even cry, which i find amazing. And her answers “had no soul”, i was just waiting for a smirk.
Last, I’ve NEVER known a West Indian woman to NOT FIGHT BACK when a man is disrespecting them. This is the same girl who has said in interviews that she used to beat the crap out of her brothers, and now has revealed that her mom used to get her ass handed to her by your dad, and YOU don’t do nothing when your boyfriend is doing the same thing your dad did to your mom?

I agree with you but what I find so funny is the phrase “this gives Chris no excuse.” We tend to say that a lot but what does it REALLY mean? Abuse is not just physical it is emotional and psycological for the person going through it. No one really knows how a person, male or female, is going to react when they get to that breaking point. That’s why it’s not good to take them there.
I personally have zero tolerance for abusive people. I really don’t care what sex they are. If you want to go hitting on someone, be prepared to get dealt with. That goes to anyone, male or female who feel they need to control their relationship through agressive means.
We applauded Tina Turner when she finally made Ike have it in the back of the limo. Yet, we go after Chris when he lost it. A lot of the things Rihanna said in that interview gives me the impression that she felt more superior than Chris. Well, she and those around her may have felt that her opinion gives her the right to hit him but I see that as a sign of tremendous immaturity on her part.
She is a West Indian like myself and she knows what them older folks love to tell the young couples…keep your hands to yourself. It’s sad that Rihona waited almost a year (concurrent to releasing an album) to try to garner pity purchases. Chris Brown admitted to what he did, and he (has) is serving his community service sentence, not to mention the 5 year probation.
Her people did everything they could to keep her relevant (photo-ops everyday) linking her to this man and that man, boozing, and all, but this is low. This interview was a methodical move to continue to try to hinder Chris Brown’s success. He is the better performer, and IMHO he did so much to boost her image and the lack of talent that she has.

I cannot fathom why we as black people must always side with ignorance when it comes to serious issues. If Rihanna hit him once or twice, it does not qualify his reaction. He beat her beyond belief and lost his control. Whether you want to dislike her personality or not, no one deserves that. The underlying ramifications will result in a lack of trust in future relationships and the recurring pain of remembering that night. If this was your best girlfriend and she told you she hit him first, you would want to still beat his ass for beating her to that degree. I can appreciate the fact that she was able vocalize her feelings, contradicting or not. Her contradictions are to be expected because she is still struggling emotionally with this situation. As with any woman coming out of a relationship, abused or not, you experience a range of emotions as the struggle lies between your heart and mind. If one person took anything away from this interview, it was well worth it. It just bothers me how some black woman think so little of themselves that they believe this behavior is okay. It does not make us look stronger. Our true weaknesses show in these very ignorant comments. We still have another 400 years to go to common sense.

I love this website for all that it has too offer. However, sometimes I think the comments at time can delve into the sphere of ridiculous. But, that’s my opinion and I do understand everyone is entitled to their own opinion — so I won’t address any particular comment. Chris and Rihanna are both young and mistakes were made and are still being made. If Rihanna hit him it was wrong. Him beating her, to the extent that he did was super wrong. He admitted his wrong doing and is trying to move on. This is his second chance to become the man he was meant to be. The ball is in his court.
Though the timing for Rihanna’s interview was a bit off for me, I was glad that she had an informative interview, shedding light on HER abuse. Chris’ interview with Larry King on the other hand was a bow tie disaster. His interview with Swiss was really good yesterday. He seemed himself and didn’t seemed coached. All in all the timings of these interviews were handled by their management and clearly they can have off beat moments as well.
In the beginning everyone wanted to have both sides of the story, now it’s like we don’t even want to hear what she has to say — BLINDED! I’ve heard both sides and a lot of shit happened that night. She was nagging him, he got pissed and FUCKED her up. It can happen to anyone, but it cannot be justified. For all those who are so blinded by GQness of Chris and not willing to admit that he did do something wrong that night, please envision your mother, or sister, or daughter’s face in that TMZ’s leaked photo — beaten, bruised and battered, will your opinion be the same? God forbid some beasty man lay a hand on my baby girl. Chris admitted it and he’s trying to move on.
This is a situation of Domestic Violence and it’s serious. Somehow though, I feel if Rihanna were a born and bred American, it may not have been so bad for her in terms of public opinion. Some have said that the ‘island bitch needs to go back to the islands or she wasn’t deserving of Chris’ love in the first place because of where she came from. Some said she needed to be more talented. Would a wealth of talent gain you favors in the public’s eye? If that were the case, what would public opinion be if there was domestic violence between Bey and Jay. Would it be the same overwhelming sentiment of dislike or even hate towards Beyonce? Think about it.

The thing I learned from this interview is that she works with some very smart people. If she were a better actor she could have milked it but sure she was coached no publicist/manager worth their salt would have allowed her to perpetrate another ‘Crack is Whack’ interview. There are some parts in the interview where she is very sincere and I feel that more than anything else she said.
She addressed the issue now thus giving her the ultiumate excuse to refuse answering these questions when she starts doing serious promo for her album.
“No comment I already answered that in the interview” is now tied up nicely. Very smart.
Of course Chris Brown was wrong for hitting her. No qustion, no debate. If she hit him she was wrong too but there is absolutely no excuse for what he did to her. If he had done the same to a man I would say the same thing. Unecessary violence against women and men should be stopped. Women need to rstop this fairer sex mentality and men need to remind themselves of their own strength. Equality right? For both sexes.
In the end my opinions stay the same never cared for either before this incident and I can’t say Im endeared to either of them now Chris Brown even less so. I have refused to watch any of his interviews since then nothing has changed there.

Both this and Chris’s interiews, honestly could not be take seriously. I don’t condone Chris’s actions, because I am a woman and that could be me. I would encourage those of you who think that Rihanna is just doing this for album publicity to consider that, faced with the contractual obligation to promote her upcoming album, the necessity of speaking about her personal abusive relationship was inevitable? It absolutely makes sense that she would get it over in one high profile interview and move forward with promoting her music.
She was impressive in this interview – openly sharing all of the emotions that come with abuse – anger, resentment, confusion, embarrassment. Acknowledging that not going back to her abuser was necessary for her life, career, and fans is so incredibly mature. I wish her well and pray for her continued strength.

She had all of these months to come out and talk about this and she waits two weeks before her album is going to drop. I think if she is going to talk about how to help other young girls and women in their abuse, something should have been said prior to this. All of this media stuff is just over the top these days. I felt that the interview could have been a little more raw for ppl who are in abusive relationships. Chris and Rihanna was in a “young love” relationship. Being in love at a young age, couples tend to lack the understandings principals of love. As Rihanna stated that she anticipated on knowing who was the girl in the text message. Chris comes off as just having a huge ego in all his interviews and not being that apologetic–but I cant imagine the backlash these 2 are experiencing from this incident. It was horrible but this 9month investigation into their business is unfair. People/the media need to sit down and let them work it out or move past it. Stop dwelling on it! These two are young and obviously uneducated–neither went to college and have been in the entertainment industry for their whole teenage and adult life so neither of them can really speak intelligently on the issue of domestic violence. Chris Brown and Rihanna have really made a mockery out of something that is entirely serious. I say both of them because so much is wrong with this interview, so much wrong with what he did to her, and so much more.

She does when she only got big after a re-release. Lets not forget she was on shaky grounds after umbrella, her label did not understand how a hit single was not translating into good 1st week album sales. Her manager did an amazing job by getting her those nikey and cover girl endorsements because def jam was not footing the bill. They were gonna drop her along with teairra marie.
She has a lot riding on this album, it may be her fourth but since she only got big with her 3rd CD, Rated R is being viewed as a sophomore effort. And we all know how you need to jump that 2nd album to stay in the game.
Is she gonna do well? Of course, the promo has been crazy but her label wouldn’t have released 3 damn songs if that’s all they wanted.
The singles have been met with mix reviews, there’s no stand out like umbrella. And with artists like lady gaga and adam glambert releasing the same day as she is, she can’t afford to lose. What does she do? release that secret weapon everybody wants to know about “the incident”. It’s genius promo actually ppl will be talking about this right until her album drops.
She’s been a single artist thus far, this interview could help her gain what she’s always wanted: A number 1 album and big 1st week album sales.

I’m not mad I think it’s genius, I would’ve done the same thing too. Up until a month ago we didn’t even know for sure when her album was coming out cuz there was no promo nothing. She successfully killed 2 birds with 1 stone, in less then 3 weeks. She didn’t have to do promo months b4 the release like other artists (i.e alicia keys)bcuz she knew that interview would set things off for the month. It’s very smart.
As for chris, his interviews won’t help him because he’s the one viewed as the abuser so anything he says will be taken as bullshit. I honestly believe that if she could have stayed with Chris AND suffered no FINANCIAL damage, she would have.
She said “I was not about to lose the empire that I had built.” If it were not for the corporate pressure on her, she would have never left. This was a financial decision. I promised I wouldn’t comment on the Rihanna/Chris Brown situation, and I am keeping that promise. But I wanted to touch on something else. On the heels of her heavily promoted and controversial 20/20 interview with Diane Sawyer that aired last night, along with her Glamour cover, with the mag dubbing her “Woman Of The Year” (along with First Lady Michelle Obama), I decided I had to say something.
As far as the interview goes, I don’t have much to say about it. I don’t want to be one of those people that will say “she’s so brave for speaking up” or one of the people that say “she’s a liar, and threw him under the bus”. I am indifferent about what she said. I don’t know either Rihanna or Chris, nor was I in the car with them when it went down. Therefore, I don’t have a clear account of what happened and can’t comment on it. I was perplexed, however, of her timing. With an album dropping in a matter of weeks, and a single that isn’t performing well, her timing couldn’t have been better. But 9 months after being in one of the most publicly domestic violence situations, being one of the biggest superstars in the world, and having the most visibility, why be a hero for young girls in abusive relationships now? At the time, so much people began to come out of the woodwork admitting to past abuse, teen dating violence became a heavily talked about topic, and a young girl even died mere weeks after her “situation”.. why be the hero, NOW?
All of a sudden she’s saying she wants to speak up for girls in abusive relationships, because the issue is so frequent and “secret”. She wants to give them a voice. And on the heels of the promo blitz and controversy, Glamour honors her as “Women of The Year” commending her for “speaking up” against domestic violence. I have never seen this chic at a rally, a women’s empowerment conference, a domestic violence panel, or going from high school to high school lecturing young girls. So, HOW IN THE HELL DOES SHE GET COMMENDED FOR SPEAKING OUT AGAINST AN ISSUE SHE NEVER SPOKE OUT ABOUT UNTIL YESTERDAY? I don’t give her credit for giving a voice to the voiceless, for speaking for people that can’t tell their story, for putting her celebrity to good use. She is the youngest mega star to PUBLICLY be in a situation like this. Chris was a TEENAGER when this happened. There are sooooo many TEENAGERS in abusive relationships, she had ample amount of time, plenty of outlets and opportunities to speak out, and she didn’t.
That “Woman of The Year” title is a hoax. Glamour is looking to sell more magazines, and she’s looking to sell more records. She hasn’t done anything commendable this year. At all! Since the fight, she has been seen dining at New York restaurants with friends, clubbing at LA hot spots, and hitting up fashion week in numerous national and international cities. If that’s commendable, then damn it.. everyone in Hollywood should be “Woman of The Year”. There are young people out here saving lives everyday, speaking up about taboo issues, fighting against the banning of gay marriage, doing marathons for life threatening diseases, and rebuilding communities. Come on, Glamour! Do better. I can name a slew of women who deserved that honor above her. I have friends who are or has been in abusive relationships, and she didn’t do a damn thing to help empower them or make them feel strong. Girl, stop. I won’t be buying this issue, nor her album, or bumping her singles in my iPod. I can’t support the misuse of celebrity. There is so much good one can do with their platforms and popularity, and if you don’t, shame on you.
This was her opportunity to be a real hero. She has so many young fans, so much fans that experience this daily, and she couldn’t be their hero. Because she didn’t want to. And it’s okay that you didn’t accept that responsibility, not all of us are built to be role models. But don’t accept the credit. Simple.

The situation is unfortunate because it was very unnecessary. Neither, Chris Brown, nor Rihanna should have “attempted” to discuss the details the incident in interviews. First, both were very young, over emotional, and not in full control of the situation. Why would they let the white controlled media exploit the situation, moreover, fall in the trap of thinking that they are role models and must set an example for their peers.
The police complaint is only Rihanna’s reflection of the events that took place and is not a representation of the full story because Chris Brown plead guilty to the charges and did not challenge the complaint to avoid any further humiliation for the both of them. We all know Rihanna provoked Chris Brown and set him off into a rage. It is apparent from her interview last night that Rihanna is still bitter and jealous of Chris Brown’s success and support from his fans. Basically, she is puppet and is just trying to protect her interest because she knows what it is to be poor and to be rich. I think that we all should be just be honest and keep it real…don’t put your hands on anyone if you do not want your ass hit! Point BLANK! And NO MORE INTERVIEWS because it is what it is!

I think that Rihanna should have admitted her part in the situation. Speaking up for other women is being able to tell the truth and not your version of it. I am very dissapointed in her because she was not being 100% honest and it showed. She and Chris both abused each other in their relationship. I wish her well, but at least I can say that Chris took 110% responsibility for his actions. She should have done the same. I hope she can live with herself knowing that she came on tv and being a strong, beautiful woman that many young women look up to, failed to do the right thing.

I feel for both of them. I went thru something very similar to this when I was 22/23 (27 now). My first love and I had an argument over another girl. I provoked him, not physically but said some really horrible things to him. needless to say he whipped my a$$, choked and punched me while we were in the car. I loved him a lot and was really depressed because I knew I couldn’t be with him. I din’t even tell anyone what happened I was just to embarrassed to talk to him. So I broke it off. Even tho I provoked the fight I don’t think he should have hit me. I feel really bad for both of them because she prolly really wants 2 b with him, but doesn’t want the backlash from everyone. I have seen numerous fights rolling through the hood where young crack babies are fighting each other and its Boy on girl and people are watching. When I went to school if a boy hit a girl he was beat down quick by other boys. Nowadays you lucky if that young man does not fight you “like a man”. So its no surprise to hear that these young sick babies are agreeing with this nonsense. Remember loosing Issah and New Jack city those people had children those strawberries got pregnant and grandmothers became mamas again and guess what they are online now typing nonsense for you to read. When i listened to the interview, i was like wow………i’m actually hearing some genuine emotion here…keep it coming. And altho i dislike her wit a PASSIOn, i felt her pain, her embarrassment over the situation, how confusing everything was as it happened so fast….

Yes I can understand that when your young your mindset is in another zone especially one can imagine when everything you strive for is centered on the limelight. I can’t comment on Rihanna as a person because I do not know her and I see that many of you are attacking her as a person. The only thing we know is that she was attacked by the man she loved and beaten. Nothing justifies that.
Even if she is belligerent (no saying that she is- but even is she is that kind of person), no other human should have the right to do that to her. I believe that psychologically she was a part of the cycle of domestic violence after seeing her mother being attacked and beaten by her dad. Those things usually repeat itself and I am proud of Rihanna taking the stand to break that cycle for her life. It is not an easy thing to deal with and break. Even if she has an album coming out, it doesn’t take away the fact that this is what happened to her and she has a right to address it now.

First off, people may say a man should never put his hands on a woman. However, a woman shouldn’t put her hands on a man either. No type of violence should be promoted! No one has the right to put their hand on another human being. This is a very unfortunate situation, however, I do not believe it should have taken Rihanna so long to come out with her story. I understand that she needed her space and whatnot after it happened but to wait a few weeks before her album drops is a bit fishy. That is why so many people feel its a publicity stunt for her to garner up sympathy to sell more records. She speaks of building this empire and takes her career very seriously so in her making this move it is no wonder why there is so much speculation surrounding her actions. Furthermore, she goes on to say she left him because she couldn’t bare a young girl dying because of abuse or whatever. However, as someone mentioned prior, people will do what they want to do regardless. Not all the young girls will say, “Rihanna left Chris so let me leave my man,” we all have our own feelings/emotions that guide us and her leaving Chris Brown won’t save all the young females suffering from domestic abuse. Domestic abuse is an everyday occurrence that takes the lives of many women everyday. In my opinion, if she felt so strongly about it, she would go speak to young girls who are experiencing abuse, visit or donate money to battered women shelters and so forth. However, we have seen none of that. We victimize Rihanna who has had this happen to her on one public occasion but neglect to think of the many women who go through this everyday.

Personally, it is not an issue of finding her at fault as much as it is an issue of her saying she feels so strongly about this issue and her not actively speaking out about abusive relationships until this point. It is not her fault she got beat up, but I wish she would be more active in the community and try to help the young girls that she speaks of in this interview. Not everyone watches 20/20 or whatever or has access to the Internet and can watch this interview. She needs to go out there and physically help others, be an activist, if she truly wants to make a difference. She said herself in her interview that she does not want to be victimized but she ends the interview saying something about “this isn’t something I did, this is something that happened to me.” She’s not the only person this has happened to, other women get it a lot worse.

As a woman who grew up witnessing my mother repeatedly abused at the hand of my father – ABUSE BY ANYONE IS NEVER ACCEPTABLE and IS ALWAYS WRONG. Who can say when she should’ve spoken out, who can say what her motivation is … CD sales, maybe… Corporate sponsorship? The whole situation stinks! I have a set of twins (boy/girl) 21 yrs. old and they both know NOT TO PUT THEIR HANDS ON ANYONE! My guess is that CB and RiRi were too damn young to be in that serious a relationship. i feel that the interview was a good one. i couldn’t see it the night that it came out because i was out of town with work. tasha i appreciate the fact that it is posted in its entirety.
what rihanna spoke of resonated with me. i am twenty-eight years old and for as long as i can remember my father would abuse my mother. i discovered the abuse when i was three years old; i was awaken by my mother’s screams as my father beat her. the abuse went on until i was eleven years old. my parents divorced (thank god) when i was twelve. i said that to say this, Rhianna spoke of telling herself that she would never allow herself to be put in that situation but she did…and unfortunately so did i, after saying the same.
In the interview rihanna said that the abuse never happened before, it was just pushes and shoves, BUT that is abuse as well!! i said the same thing to myself! when a man shoves you, pushes you, restrains you or stops you from controlling your body, then that is abuse. a man that loves you would never intentionally harm you! i was with someone that shoved, pushed and restrained me for two and a half years. never once did i think it was abuse because i didn’t have the physical marks or bills from the hospital as proof. it took a while for me to realize it was a form of abuse, but i will never be with someone who decides to put their hands on me ever again.
for all of the people who are “team chris”, “still here for chris”, “chris’ wifey” or whatever nickname you have given yourself in chris’ honor, know this, abuse is something that needs to be acknowledged, accepted and understood in order to overcome it, for the abuser and the person that was abused. the main factor in the entire interview is that abuse took place and one person, rihanna realized it and left the situation, whereas chris is still feeling sorry for himself and having a hard time accepting who he is a person, at least back in february when the abuse happened. the people that support chris and make excused for his actions need to ask themselves this, would you be willing to trade places with rihanna? i’m sure many of you wouldn’t.

@GTFOH so rihanna was rehearsed, but Chris wasn’t, when his lawyer and mom keep interjecting everytime he tried to answer a question. What is rehearsed about rihanna. Some of you all saying she was contradicting herself. A rehearsed person would not be contradicting, they would have the lines memorized to a tee. If she can memorize her lines for her songs, she could have easily aced this interview. I think she spoke from the heart the way she saw it, and remembered a lot more than CB did. THe strange thing is that CB is not going on a rant about rihanna, he still loves her. His fans on the other hand is taking it upon themselves to get into his personal business with his ex, insinuating all type of stuff he never said himself.

I feel like this we were not in the car however, me being a female understand how females can be. We push push push to see how far we basicly can take it and when the males snaps and beats the #@%! out of you most run and cry victim. I have a nine (9) yaer old son that I teach not to hit females BUT he is not to let a female lay hands on him either (you can take it how you want) I have a five (5) year old daughter that I teach if you give a lick be prepared to take one back. She might of hit hit hit and when he snapped and beat the @#$% out her she wants to cry foul. No does not work that way keep your hands to yourself. @msmeme, I think its sad that people think the only way for a man to hit you is you have to hit him first. SO I guess in every domestic situation, the only reason the woman got beat up is because she hit him first. Why is it so hard to believe that men can and do hit a woman first. Why is it that most women are the ones saying she hit him first, but most mature men are not saying that. Both Chris and Rihanna said she didn’t hit him first, so why are people still saying she did.

I think the reason so many people, including myself, does not believe Rihanna is because she waited so long to speak out. It appears that she is really just speaking out now to be vindictive and spiteful.

one thing i will say is rihanna went on for the kill…she did not beat around the bush and just went in to bury chris brown..that was her job and she did it..she managed to accomplish that and will be gladly walking the streets after tomorrow..i just will be watching to see what it does for her sales though..

Im upset at the fact that she was referring to chris as a child and that he needs to grow up. she is only one year older then him and he admitted that what he did was wrong. he owned up to what he did and he is dealing with the consequences…i think thats being a man and dealing with it. chris need to leave her alone and get on with his life because she’s becaoming a whole different “Rihanna” than she was. she speaks so highly of ehrself because of the incident.

no, he didn’t own up to shit. he is still a FOOL. why? what he did was let his entire team drag her name through the mud, never dispelled any of the rumors that were about her hitting him or cheating on him…this actually came from his people, on his pages, where he could have easily stopped it. even, went so far as to tell larry king and the world that he wouldn’t tell what went on in the car, FOR HER BENEFIT. this fool had her looking all kinds of mess, just because it helped his reputation at the time. and, one of the many lies he let you believe was that he loved her, yet he let all this shit go on…when she was busy thinking about how his dumb ass was doing. he doesn’t GIVE A DAMN.

Whether or not she is doing this to get media attention just before her album is dropped isn’t really an issue for me, I reallt respect her for having the guts to talk about such a private event and be honest about the fact that she did go back and wanted to stay with him. She was really honest and not as ditsy as I thought she was, I might not think much of her as an artist but as a woman I think she defo handled this with dignity! go rihanna keep your head up!

I agree, Rihanna needs to get counselling as well…Did anyone notice that when Rihanna was asked if she hit Chris or did anything to provoke him her reply was, “And if I did does that make him right?” Chick hasn’t answered the question yet. I’m not saying that her hitting him makes his actions justified, but it does rule out her comments about him looking as if he he had no soul and what not… Dude didn’t hit you cus he had no soul, he hit you because you hit him first! Granted some dudes have enuff self control that when a woman hits them they don’t hit her back and they just try to restrain her in some way and some dudes have to develop that (we already know what happened in Chris’ case)… What we learn from this experience is that they are both human and make mistakes, bt at least Chris was man enuff to own up to his. Now Rihanna needs to own up to her part! …. And thats my 5cents :-)

lol @ that somebody ugly comment… That is really the truth… One of the main reasons ppl are so hot about this situation is that both Chris and Rihanna are attractive and they made an attractive couple… But I don’t think the rest of us females are condoning his actions (at least i’m not and alot of the comments i read are not) we’re just saying that if she hit him first she should own up to it! I do agree with some of your comments though. If my man had some suggestive texts from an ex in his phone I would have gone off on him too! I would have slapped him and hit him all up in his face and then thrown the phone at him. But the problem is that when we hit these men we don’t expect to get hit back. I agree with one commenter who said that we all need to keep our hands to ourselves. You are correct when you say that a real man should never hit a woman but in the same token, a real woman should never hit a man either!What is wrong with talking and working it out; or even arguing if need be? But in my book it is wrong to put the blame on one party when both had a part in it.
