There’s another First Lady we feel the need to spotlight. Her name is also Michelle, she’s also a lawyer, has fab kiddies, is well known for her fashion steps amongst the socialites in D.C., and her husband is a powerful politician. But her last name is Fenty. Essence did a featurette on the other First Lady of D.C. Michelle Fenty. And you know we love talking about fab chicks. So check it out here.
We were secretly hoping we’d see Michelle around D.C. filming “Real Housewives of D.C.” But y’all know Mayor Fenty probably wasn’t feeling that.
In other fab chick news, Halle Berry is receiving the prestigious Sherry Lansing Leadership Award at The Hollywood Reporter’s 18th Annual Women in Entertainment Breakfast Presented by Lifetime. The star studded event will go down December 4th at the Beverly Hills Hotel. Here’s a snippet from the press release:
Berry joins past recipients Barbara Walters, Meryl Streep, Jodie Foster and Glenn Close in receiving the Sherry Lansing Leadership Award for her trailblazing within the industry and for her generosity in giving back to the community at large.
“The complex role that Halle Berry plays in life as a successful, versatile entertainment professional who is committed to furthering the well-being of others, especially minorities, is as inspiring as are her film roles,” said Guider. “The recognition is also wonderfully fitting in a year in which diversity has been embraced and rewarded at the highest levels of our government and culture.”
Berry has worked consistently since Spike Lee’s “Jungle Fever” brought her national attention. In 2001, the world cheered when she became the first African American woman to take home the Best Actress Oscar® for “Monsters Ball.”
A pioneer as a performer, she is also the national spokesperson for the Jenesse Center , a non-profit organization that provides support to heal families victimized by domestic violence.

Halle Berry: “That part of it has become horrifying. We were at the San Diego aquarium and a woman comes up and my daughter is playing with her daughter and the lady said, ‘Wait a minute, Is that Nahla?’ and I looked at the woman and she goes, ‘Oh my God and you’re Halle Berry, but I recognized your daughter first.’ And I wanted to melt, I was so distraught.”
Halle Berry: “The paparazzi now they have no sense, it’s crazy and what there doing to children, it’s just not right. I know nobody has a lot of sympathy for celebrity because we are blessed in so many ways, but these children should not be subjected to this kind of scrutiny, be objectified, be hunted down, its just flat out wrong.”
Halle also shares that contrary to popular belief, Nahla is not named after “The Lion King,” but after Halle’s African heritage.

Mayor Fenty is full of crap. DC public schools are in terrible shape and when he and his wife decided to take their two sons out of private school they made sure they stepped over the boundaries to get them in a better public school since the one in their neighborhood was a poor performing school. What about all of the other parents in DC who have kids in crappy schools but would like to place them in a better performing school? Thank God I don’t live in DC. Oh and he was also on the 6 o’clock news tonight for possible abuse that he and his bike riding buddies have had with police escorting for riding their damn bikes in the streeet and showcased them holding up traffic and running red lights. Way to go Fenty!

You may not have any sympathy for celebrities but as Halle says their kids did not ask for the scrutiny. It is not even humanly possible to keep them out of the public eye b/c most want their kids to live normal lives. I love celeb pics and some blogs but I draw the line at kids. If I was Halle I would have caught a case by now. Or I would be like Julia Roberts and put it to them real straight…F with me all you want but leave my kids the F alone. Paparazzi are even at the kid’s schools. That is ri-damn-diculous…
As for Ms. Berry herself that is a bad ass chick. That damn haircut, the minimal makeup and her everyday laid back look is the business. She, Melinda Williams and Nia Long know that can rock the hell out of a short cut. Love it ladies. Keep it up. I have had short hair since I cut it back in the 8th grade and that was 2 decades ago.

He and his buddy michelle rhee can go crawl in a ditch somewhere, b/c the stuff they did to teachers in DC is damn straight illegal. he also screwed over the police officers out of their pensions. this man is just bad news all the way, im surprised with tasha living in DC n all she could still try and have his wife lauded here => reason i say this is because we know nothing about her except that she is fenty’s wife, so we can only judge her on his achievements, until we get more info on her! anyway, i hate the man!

I can’t judge him i don’t know anything about DC politics but from what i do know about this family is that they are educated and i like that because their children will be educated and Mrs. Fenty is British so would like to hear her accent. I agree with what everyone is saying about Fenty on here but I would want the people who dont live in the District like I do to not think that these complaints dont have merit because they do. No one dislikes A. Fenty ( I dont respect him enough to call him Mayor) because he is educated but because he is just not doing his job. I mean we are in bad shape in the DC and he is taking trips to Vegas on city funds hell our kids hardly have books enough books. I would think the people of DC would see Fenty as an improvement over Marion Berry. I can’t muster up much sympathy for DC over their political choices when the residents choose to vote for a convicted cocaine user. When people don’t expect better from their leaders they will end up with trash.
I look at the turn of Black voters in this year’s off season elections in Virginia and New Jersey and it was appalling. People don’t turn out to vote even in small elections but will continue to complain and complain because they are saddled with shitty local governing.
Now Black folks are complaining that Fenty is attracting “white dollars” and pushing Black residents out of DC, but I always ask the question of what have you done in your community lately? I asked the same question when Harlem was being gentrified.
Are people continuing the cycle of poverty by having child after child and not being able to afford them? Are parents continuing to not get involved in their children’s education. Black parents will complain and complain about a school but won’t show up to one PTA meeting or teacher-parent meeting. The HIV infection rate in DC is shocking, but yet people still don’t take personal responsibility to protect their bodies by using condoms, getting tested, and being open and honest about sexual preferences, drug habits, and HIV status.
Black folks need to stop complaining and start getting involved in politics. Black folks need to stop fucking and start getting an education. These two things will go a long way so that we don’t get saddled with politicians we don’t want or communities that are decaying.

I am a DC resident active in the community and warned them fools when he was running. He should have been a big boy and acted in the best interest of the city and kept Chief Ramsey in charge of the Police Department, but no. He had to act like a 2 year old because they had a disagreement. Cathy Lanier is doing what she can and she came up through the ranks, but I still believe it was a political decision. Everybody knows he beats his wife, that’s secret. She was just recently taken to the hospital in PG County, with bruises suspect. Mayor Barry had his problems, but I do tell you one thing, he took care of the old people and the children. PERIOD, end of discussion. So, I just hope there are some viable candidates that are taken seriously by the residents next year becasue we need some help quickly.
