Tatyana and her sister, Anastasia Ali, financed and produced the web series which will begin airing on Buppies.bet.com November 24th. Nice. The other castmates are Ernest Waddell, Robin Thede, Preston Davis, and Chante Frierson.

I’m still not sure how I feel about the term “Buppies”. I guess it’s more positive than say “Ghetto” and showcases an otherwise unseen image of Black people. Young, educated and successful. But it feels slightly marginalizing. Has a certain stigma that if you’re Black, young and professional you’re “bourgeoisie.”… JMO

Buppies is just another version of the term “yuppy” which is to describe a “young urban professional” which desribes a financially secure upper-middle class young person.

I can’t wait for this show. It think it looks hot! It’s about time we got a sexy drama instead of just shuckin and jivin comedies. And I’m sick of having a token Black girl/guy on mainstream dramas. If BET has any sense, they will put this show in the network line up once the online run is through.

There’s nothing wrong with being black, young, educated professional since this blog is moderated by one. It is about time black folks in Hollywood (especially BET) stop acting like they are ghetto when most of them attended private schools and top college and universities.

Robin Thede, the light-skinned chick w/green eyes, is in this pretty funny all-black female sketch comedy troupe, Elite Delta Force 5.

I’m excited for Buppies. Hungry for black webisodes since all of our shows are gone and I want to see what the next generation’s bringing to the table.

Okay, so I was initially disappointed with this show being a web series/webisode/whatever, but then I had to really think about it… We now live in a mobile world where everyone watches online videos, listens to podcasts, is continuously connected to social networking sites, and is fully attuned to new media–all on the go. So these web series that everybody’s doing now are exactly what the evolution of tv looks to be; who the hell needs a network anymore??
However, I’m happy that is is now being backed by BET. I was under the impression that THAT network was only interested in ghetto programming, which in no way represents me. This show looks like it could be a better representation of a different point of view…mine!
And as a final thought, the cast looks hot! Especially that Ernest guy. We always see him in small, but meaningful roles. Maybe in this performance he will give us something more (and tastier) to chew on…
I cannot wait!

I couldn’t agree more. Being from Los Angeles, even the “ghetto” people I knew went to private school or really great public schools (i.e Palisades) and did go to more elite colleges and universities.
