Alicia Keys is teaming up with jewelry designer Gisèle Theriault to debut her own line of jewelry called The Barber’s Daughter. More pics:

“I fell in love with the individuality of the pieces, but more than that, the words that were written on them really resonated with the songwriter in me,” said Keys. “I knew at that moment, for the first time, that through a whole other medium I would be able to spread inspiration and that’s what got me started.”
Keys said her mission is “to give people beautiful, unique pieces with messages that ignite them to find the best within” and that she has long wanted to get involved in accessories.
“Jewelry is a great first step,” said Keys, who recently started AK Worldwide, a company that will focus on her nonmusical endeavors. “I think accessories are exceptional, because it is a simple way for people to express their own style.”
On the docket for Keys, fashion aside, is her new album “The Element of Freedom,” which debuts on Dec. 15, followed by a tour in March. She is also producing a TV show, a film with Miramax and “Fela,” a Broadway show, which opens on Monday.
“The inspiration of The Barber’s Daughters is to provide tools for people to connect to their intangible beauty and strength,” said Theriault.
The line of necklaces retail from $85 to $2,500 and is also sold on thebarbersdaughters.com Web site.
Theriault said the name of the line emanates from growing up in the small coastal town of Cape Breton in Canada, where “a name meant nothing. Whose child you were was everything.”

Beyonce didn’t sing Sweet Love recently, nor is this clip from her Vegas tour DVD: that performance was from the OPENING NIGHT of her tour in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada last March. Jay-Z flew in for the show & was in the audience, & she sang it special for him.
I know all that because as a fan of hers, I flipped when I heard she was singing Anita (I LOOOOOOVE ANITA) and i found this video, DL’ed the MP3, and put it on my personal blog. Back in MARCH.
It was a nice in-concert cover, don’t read too much into it people. She’s not putting it on her album, or DVD release. She also sings Alanis Morrissette in concert for a minute or so-these are just things in her show, not bids for Beyonce’s world domination.

When you pay homage to someone, you don’t take their song and over do it. Mary didn’t over do “Sweet Thang”, it’s not a song that you try to showcase your vocal ability as opposed to delivering the emotion of the song. I don’t want to hear Sweet Love sung with hollering and what not, it’s not that type of song. If that’s the case choose a Patti Labelle song that has a lot of that and more to show a very wide vocal range. Anita Baker has a sultry & smooth blues, R&B type voice that can’t be repeated.

Anita Baker is a simplistic singer.
