Wow…after doing some research, I can say, with almost absolute certainty, that African-American women are crap.
I’ve spent over a decade working on papers, dissertations, tangible projects that would benefit black women in the US, therefore all black people in the US, but African-American women in the US are quick to tear each other down; to support the black males who control the images of black women who then mock all black women in the next breath based on distortions the men have created.
No, I don’t care that Tiger Woods dated and then married a white woman…I say continue to dilute your stuff from generation to generation so you will no longer be apart of the larger conversation. What I do care about is the reaction to a black man physically victimizing a black woman. WHO CARES WHAT SHE SAID…PEOPLE TALK NONSENSE EVERYDAY and given the talk on this blog by some of the women, some of you are cruisin’ for a bruisin’ based on your own canons, but there are laws for a reason… and yes, I get it… white women are more valuable (and they know it) even to African-American men and women in the US, but he is a CRIMINAL whether you like it or not… Maybe if he bust up your mothers, sisters and daughters you would change your tunes, but African-American women do NOT need to chime in and be PRO-Chris Brown because you are tired of seeing one of THE FEW black women in the entertainment industry featured on an entertainment-based gossip blog.
MAYBE if we had a wider diversity of black women artists, we wouldn’t have to see Rihanna everyday. TALK TO YOUR BOYZ ABOUT THAT. They pick and choose black women to promote based on their complexion and sex appeal…nothing else. BLACK MEN and white women to a lesser extent in the music industry (WHITE WOMEN are by FAR the majority of casting agents in Hollywood – so when you see all the mammys in commercials and mainstream movies, just remember, a white chick put her there to represent YOU, but would never do the same to represent even their most benign representations) have completely shut out generations of black women ARTISTS a la tracy chapman, nina simone, erykah badu, Ms. Lauryn hill, chaka khan, patti labelle, anita baker, r&b girls groups of the 90s, the pointer sisters, the list could go on, infinitely on… History is being changed and black women are being removed the psyche of the society by villifying a female people and removing anything about them that is positive – watch recent commercials, black women cannot cook and are not even in typical maternal roles in commercials. Not to mention, apparently, white women usually give birth to daughters while black women almost exclusively have sons. They will cast TWO BOYS as the “kids” in a commercial featuring an African-American family, but 3 girls in a caucasian family (girls for Asians and a boy and a girl for Latino families). I’m am going on a tangent here, ’cause seriously…it’s all so vile…
…but, I am throwing in the towel (if only for one night) to the female commentators who hiss every time they see Rihanna in a picture. What goes around, comes around and believe me, your support of this criminal breeds your comeuppance…for as you support the misogynist establishment, your day-to-day lives will continue to have no value.

ok I’m definately not a Rihanna fan but after reading this very long GQ article it’s obvious that her management have far too much control over her and what she says, and how she answers questions in interviews.
I personally feel like Rihanna deserves a break even though she isn’t a good singer or dancer but what she went through was embarrasing and very emotional-being beaten up and then for the whole world to find out.
As for her dealing with it, sounds to me like she posing half naked etc (getting on with things as per advice from management rather than advice from family)

Let’s see… if you don’t agree with me fine…but to call me uneducated… Well, if I am uneducated then who is. I’ve gone to private schools all my life until attending one of the top high schools in the country. I then went ivy and continued my studies overseas while conducting medical&social research pertaining to black women of the diaspora. I since returned to the US where I was a research fellow and scholar and am continuing my research on the effects of the societal struggle of black women and their ever disparaged presence in American society.
Of course, I SO do not believe that my educational background makes me any better than people who have not had my experiences, (especially since there are a bunch of blacks in the academia who are quick to give the mainstream stats that further the cycle of struggle, see themselves as the talented 10th and look down upon those who have not “made it” academically.), but I can say that I have put in the time and years of my life into finding out the truths (as ugly as they can be) that pertain to different black societies and also consider myself a testament to the importance of educational equity in the US public school system. If I could do it…any of my brethren could do it as well if given the tools!
Everyone should have a voice despite their SAT-GRE-MCAT-LSAt scores, but when EVEN COMMON SENSE is not being used and vitriol is turned towards a victim of abuse (a black woman) at the hands of a black man… please…it is not acceptable to me, nor will it ever be.

At 23, your brain loses the mucous and shrinks releasing 22 years of information for which it hasn’t had much use (which is why they can have television shows like “Are you Smarter than a 5th Grader); unless you’d been using your brain in certain areas, your brain is going to drop 3rd grade geology and 4th grade math. Rihanna, and Chris alike, are BABIES…and I would complain if Chris got more than a year/year and a half for what he did, but the dude is walking around rating R&B chicks on the radio, yet the victim is being violently disparaged by those who should know better. On the taking pics of an open casket issue..I’m from TX and we do that here. I never thought anything about it tho. I have pics of my grandpa from 89′, my dad in 01′ and my grandmother is 06′. We just feel like that’s the last time we’ll see that person til we pass, so we take pictures. I actually thought alot of people did that elsewhere, maybe it’s just a southern thing.

Well Ms. Rated R has moved up on the billboard album charts from #28 to #21. She sold 182,000 units in the first week and in her fourth week she sold 84,000 units.
While Chris “beat them down” Brown has moved down from #7 to #31. He sold 102,000 units in his first week and only 50,000 units in his second. His cd hasn’t even charted in the international market and now it is a certified flopped!!

I can’t say in the south in general but in New Orleans, its common for us to take pictures of loved ones on the last day that we see them. Basically it’s just a little something else for us to hold onto of their memory.
