Sun, January 31, 2010 12:43 AM
Congrats to her! I’m glad a black woman won, but I wanna see black women of different shades win it, not just light skin women.
Sun, January 31, 2010 12:44 AM
Honestly her voice is not that great, congrats to her anyway.
Sun, January 31, 2010 12:45 AM
lmao! @BEYONCELOVER1993 she butchered that song. smh
Sun, January 31, 2010 12:48 AM
Dang, she even sings that song better than Beyonce… I kid! I kid! Please don’t attack me stans! Lol. Congrats to her though :-)
Sun, January 31, 2010 12:51 AM
Her reaction was so sweet and honest. Congratulations!
Sun, January 31, 2010 1:04 AM
Cosign: BeyonceLover1993. I damn near cried and I’m not talking tears of joy. Lawd!!!! I hope her cause has NOTHING to do with entertainment. Step away from the damn mic!! But glad you won chick.
Sun, January 31, 2010 1:07 AM
I’m happy to see an African American win the crown, but that song was terrible. Just calling a spade a spade…She had to receive top scores in all the other segments of the pageant. Congrats to her!
Sun, January 31, 2010 1:24 AM
So after all the nicities lets us be real, she’s got a big azz fore-head. She just beat out Tyra and Rihanna. Nose kinda wide too
Sun, January 31, 2010 1:34 AM
Where is Sandman Sim when you need him? Cuz that chick shoulda been booed off stage for murdering that song like that.
That song was so DONE by Beyonce, like seriously. So if you are gonna get on national TV and try to do it, you best bring it.
Sun, January 31, 2010 1:36 AM
That is so exciting and wonderful, love the dress and her swimsuit look gives me the urge to do crunches-not!
Sun, January 31, 2010 1:42 AM
Alright Caressa! Congratulations!!! So happy for her.
Sun, January 31, 2010 1:42 AM
Um, the average black person’s nose is ‘kinda wide,’ not straight and pointy. And so what she has a big forehead? She’s still Miss America. Quit trying to rain on her damn parade! Sheesh!
Sun, January 31, 2010 1:46 AM
yay Caressa! And what wrong with her features? her nose?… she just won a BEAUTY contest…and someone comments on how the black girl looks black? SMH this worlld never ceases to amaze me
Sun, January 31, 2010 1:58 AM
I was waiting for another website to mention the new Miss America. Yahoo is so racist and other media as well. If it was a white chick especially a blonde, they would have had a nice big pic of her. They did not even a have pic of her just the other contestant. WTF? Congrat, Miss America.
Sun, January 31, 2010 2:05 AM
d-brute what do u look like and if you are a man what does your chick look like. I am sure neither of you can touch her?? get a life…
danid I thought the same thing. I mean how are they not even going to have her in the group shot.. c’mon
Sun, January 31, 2010 2:12 AM
I think she’s beautiful! And I don’t think she sounded bad… I’ll listen to her over rihanna any day of the week!
Sun, January 31, 2010 2:15 AM

Sun, January 31, 2010 2:29 AM
Congrats to her!!! she is a very pretty lady & im sure she will serve the title well. I loved the SUPPORT of her MOM & DAD!!
Sun, January 31, 2010 2:33 AM
well her singer isnt great but congrats to her!
Sun, January 31, 2010 2:52 AM
I’m extremely proud a black woman won but she’s ugly without makeup…this chick is average & wouldn’t turn heads. It seems black women winning is becoming a norm which is great. I know it’s based on more than looks & I guess this chic was the best. Congradulations girl!!!
Sun, January 31, 2010 3:00 AM
Now we need a black Ms Universe. She sounded like a white girl; trying 2 sing that song; she should have picked a country song lol, I guess she’s a Bey stan. She reminds me of Tyra Banks.
Sun, January 31, 2010 3:18 AM
Miss Virginia won. Great :)
But who noticed that there were no more than 3 black women in the pageant? Pay attention black ppl. We are still underrepresented.
Sun, January 31, 2010 3:20 AM
MISS AMERICA competes at MISS WORLD
MISS USA competes MISS UNIVERSE
2 different competitions
anywhoo, ms cameron is beautiful
Sun, January 31, 2010 3:55 AM
Black is beautiful no matter what shade @shelly-chelle. Anyway congrats Miss Cameron.
Sun, January 31, 2010 5:04 AM
glad she won….get ready for d dirt to come out…
Sun, January 31, 2010 5:42 AM
she’s beautiful. Can’t believe people are criticising her african features! Learn to love yourselves black people and be happy for others instead of looking for flaws and ‘buts’ . Self hate is ugly!
Sun, January 31, 2010 6:07 AM
she is really beautiful and I like her performance on Listen.Cant believe that there are real singers who cant sing at all …
Sun, January 31, 2010 7:08 AM
tasha think she slick.. she know that performance was ….. yall know…i will blame it on being nervous and the sound. lmao.. congrats non the less chicaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Sun, January 31, 2010 8:13 AM
Congrats to her! I can tell on the performance she got a little nervous because she had pitch problems at the end but she started the song very well and her voice has a different but very nice tone. Just stay with the voice lessons and she could be the next Vanessa Williams. I see it already-lol. As far as looks I think she is pretty and when she figures out how to apply that make-up you will see that she is even prettier without it!!
Sun, January 31, 2010 8:16 AM
awww congrats to her she seems real sweet and genuine. There is nothing absolutely nothing wrong with her features. So what, her nose is wide, she is black isn’t she. Seriously some people are stupid
Sun, January 31, 2010 8:46 AM
Congrats to her! I can tell on the performance she got a little nervous because she had pitch problems at the end, although she started the song out very well. Her voice also has a distinct but very nice tone. Just stick with some voice lessons and she will be the next Vanessa Williams. I see it already-lol. As far as looks go I think that she is pretty and when she figures out how to apply less make-up you will see that she is even prettier without it!!
Sun, January 31, 2010 8:51 AM
I would love to know who made her final dress. I think picking the yellow was a good choice it made her really stand out. Congrats!
Sun, January 31, 2010 8:56 AM
@d-brute – whoot whoot – Uncle Tom alert! Uncle Tom alert! What, is she too african-american for you? get outta here with that mess.
Sun, January 31, 2010 9:17 AM
WOW. Some of these comments of freaking amazing. It’s no wonder most black celebs go under the knife to fix there noses and anything else that makes them look black! And if this is from YBF, I can only imagine what white folks are saying about her! She’s a beautiful girl, and black beauty comes in all forms. We should be proud that she’s a ybf chick that beat out many others for that spot, not commenting about her “wide nose” or “big forehead.” SMDH…
Sun, January 31, 2010 9:20 AM
song, awful, but congrats to her
Sun, January 31, 2010 9:24 AM
congratulations to her. Let’s pray she doesn’t eff up like our Miss England over here did.
Sun, January 31, 2010 9:39 AM
why is it that some black ppl,especially women feel the need to nag about every damn thing? STFU already! sheesh! …Someone actually mentioned that Caressa was trying to “sound white”..excuse me but last time I checked,it’s called speaking proper English not sounding like a total bufoon,especilly for a national pageant! So what if Caressa’s complexion is light brown? Black is black @ the end of the day no matter what! Do you actually think the white media gives a crap if she was birracial? Wake up! & as far as her wearing makeup a bit heavy,it’s called “stage mkeup” which is usually worn for events such as these as well as theater etc. Get a clue!
Anyways,don’t mean to rant but it disgusting how on these gossip sites black ppl,especially black woman feel th need to tear their own race & gender apart. Just feel proud for Caressa for obtaining the title & representing her ppl because the crown could’ve easily been given to a white or non-black,period!
Sun, January 31, 2010 10:14 AM
CONGRATS TO CARESSA! VERY PROUD!
SN: For the person who said they want to see blacks of different complexion win not just the light skin girls DO YOUR RESEARCH BEFORE YOU RUN OFF AT THE MOUTH 1993 KENYA MOORE WON MISS USA and FINISHED FIFTH IN THE MISS UNIVERSE PAGENT! SHE IS NOT “LIGHT SKIN”!
AND SHE ROCKED IT HUN!
Sun, January 31, 2010 10:31 AM
Who is light skinned/dark skinned? Where do you draw the line? And why should it matter?
Sun, January 31, 2010 10:34 AM
hello everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I strongly recommend _____www.millionairechats.com____ to you where I just found my wealthy boyfriend! It is the best and largest millionaires dat’ing site in the world. I saw Rihanna’s profile on thatSITE yesterday! Is she single again?
Sun, January 31, 2010 10:39 AM
I saw that dress on another contestant in another pageant. And Miss America does Not go to Miss World. And why do so many Miss America girls study broadcast journalism. Still good for her.
Sun, January 31, 2010 10:48 AM
VA!!!!!1
Sun, January 31, 2010 10:49 AM
@ Ms BusyBody: Are you referring to having a Black Ms. Universe this year?
Because we’ve had Black Ms. Universes before, the first two from Trinidad and Tobago – Janelle ‘Penny’ Commissiong in 1977 and Wendy Fitzwilliam in 1998 who was actually succeeded by Mpule Kwelagobe from Botswana. Just a little trivia ;-)
Sun, January 31, 2010 11:10 AM
White racists like Rush Limbaugh LOVE black women.
Miss America is drop dead beautiful. I hope Mario Lopez was the prize cause he is still FINE!!!
Sun, January 31, 2010 11:14 AM
chaka1….u r SO right!!! It goes back to that slave owner mentality. Secret obsession behind closed doors….
Sun, January 31, 2010 11:17 AM
@Angelheiress…I agree with you wholeheartedly!! Why is it that blk women have to constantly prove themselves in society; esp 2 our own? We have crawled on too many backs to get to where we are today and it’s sad that our very own will find fault in a ’sister’ taking home the crown. WE have enough to deal with in the real world as a race; yet we find it fascinating when a sister does something positive we start picking her a part. Go pick a part the brothers in the league that continue to embarass us everyday. Focus on the positive WE bring to the table (regardless of our skin tone)…if you don’t like her skin tone, you run. Hell, be happy for the girl and move on….HELLO, she is black and she beat out 50+ white chicks (that alone should be celebrated). Her parents look black to me…..I’m just sayin’. Real Talk….’they’ will have enough negative things to say about all of ‘us’ in the magazines, newspapers, websites, blogs and the list goes on & on. I just hope I’m alive to see the day when all of ‘us’ are able to support and uplift one another because we’re in this together…believe it or not!! At the end of the day (even though we’re entitled to so much more) all we really ask for is respect from ‘other’ races and as you can see…we can’t even get out the starting blocks with our own at the beginning of the day! Caressa, you made me proud to spell my name W-O-M-A-N.
Sun, January 31, 2010 11:22 AM
Also Marjorie Vincent – Miss America 1991 was not light skinned…she is a beautiful brown woman of Haitian decent from Illinois. Yeah….folks need to do research. But the bigger picture is (as someone previously stated)….black is beautiful in ALL shades!
Sun, January 31, 2010 11:42 AM

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Sun, January 31, 2010 12:35 PM
Congrats to her and to who ever said they would want to see black women of all different shades win. Just want you to know that dark skin black women have won Miss America in the past 2004 also with a yellow gown.
Sun, January 31, 2010 12:36 PM
There are to many pageants to keep up with, I was just informed that Miss USA goes on to compete in the Miss Universe pageant not Miss America, thanks to my local pageant guru!! She is still FAB now what!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
SO what’s the difference between the two? I thought it was the same thing! It seems every month they having a Miss America Pageant, because didn’t that heat between Carrie Prejean just died down? Wasn’t she competing in the Miss America Pageant?
Sun, January 31, 2010 12:39 PM
and just for the record I am dark skin. why does it matter that she is light skin I don’t care she is still a beautiful black woman and represents all of us. Do your research before you start some mess. fyi Kenya Moore too
Sun, January 31, 2010 12:59 PM
Congrats to Miss Virginia! It’s good to see a black woman win the crown. Hopefully, see can see a black Miss Universe this year also.
Sun, January 31, 2010 1:48 PM
Miss America is primarily a scholarship pageant.
No doubt her intellect and brainpower trumped her vocals or attractiveness.
Sun, January 31, 2010 1:51 PM
The chick has Barbie like proportions
Sun, January 31, 2010 1:59 PM
Congrats – I gotta critique – Horrible rendition of LISTEN – more screaming than singing – she needed voice lessons for that …..
@Everybody – plz do not respond to @mizundastood – they are trying to get a rise in ignorant conversations from others in the post ….
Sun, January 31, 2010 2:03 PM
Congrats to her!!!
Can someone school me on the importance of pageantry!! I’m not being ignorant i’m just curious bcus I never got it. I know they do community service but what else!?
Sun, January 31, 2010 2:25 PM
Congrats to her fab bitch indeed and smart wear the crown well luv a southern belll
Sun, January 31, 2010 2:29 PM
To everybody who keeps discussing her complexion there have been other Miss America’s that were of darker complexion too. Miss America 2004 Erica Dunlap, Miss America 1994 Kimberly Aiken, Miss America 1991 Marjorie Vincent, Miss America 1990 Debbye Turner. Miss USA 1993 Kenya Moore and Miss USA 2002 Shauntay Hinton, and Miss USA 2008 Crystle Stewart. Look it up. Yes there have been some “light skinned” black women who have won but too but they are still black. The Miss Black America pagent winners come in differents shades. They don’t win based on how mixed they are. And to add my two cents further more you can be mixed and be dark skinned. So can we please keep this positive. Whether you think she’s pretty or not or “dark enough.” The girl should be congratulated on the fact that she won out of 53 girls and won a scholarship to college. That what we should be focused on another black student can afford to go to college. Not her her skin color. She’s a YBF chick like the caption says. Congrats Miss Caressa!!!
Sun, January 31, 2010 2:42 PM
Congrats! I hope she does a better job than the president…….
Sun, January 31, 2010 2:44 PM
Just Be Proud she is a black woman who won. dam
Stop all the hating.. Its unnessecary!
Sun, January 31, 2010 2:52 PM
@Islnd chic – I agree with you….she sang the better much much better IMO. White people have been frothing in the mouth on them blogs between her and Serena’s win. I love it.
Sun, January 31, 2010 2:58 PM
OK so I am a lightskinned girl so no one should come at me about hating. But, I do think light skinned black women disproportionately win these things versus their dark skinned counterparts. This is still a form of European oppression, my black people. So, if someone (shelly chelle) points it out don’t jump down her throat like it’s a nonissue. It unfortunately isn’t because it affects most of our community.
Second, this girl’s rendition of ‘Listen’ was cringe-worthy but I just loved watching all the white girls get runner up and seeing her named Miss America.
Sun, January 31, 2010 3:07 PM
@allnatural….why bring the president in this,he is trying to clean up the mess bush left…damn so of us are never satisfied…there are some self hating black individuals on this site…black is beauiful people no matter what shade it is or how big the nose or forehead is….she is beautiful so why are some of you trying to find fault with her….congrats to her for winning…@mizundastood….get over it …we are here and we are not going any where a**whole…
——————————————
Who lied to you and told you the president is not doing a good job. Unless you are a Republican, you understand Obama inherited a mess and is working very hard to fix things.
And please can you not compare the work of the president of the most powerful country in the world to that of a beauty queen. I mean, are you serious? How old are you?? 12???
Sun, January 31, 2010 4:36 PM
congrats.. i didn’t even know this Miss America shit still came on.
Sun, January 31, 2010 4:48 PM
Congrats to her. I actually liked her singing performance because she made it her own. She was not off key and she sounded just as good or better than bey IMO. Pls dont say “thats a beyonce song” like bey is mariah or somebody cant sing better than her, or hit her notes. Like seriously!
Sun, January 31, 2010 5:20 PM
she can’t sing that well! until the end!
Sun, January 31, 2010 5:22 PM
ehhh shes okayyy . im not hatin or nothin but she cant touch bey with that song . its wasnt that great . at sum parts it was like grl..seriously ? u cant be forreal and then at other parts she hit it..like wen she was holdin those notes..but yeaa iexpected a lil better . that was kind of a big song and idont think she managed it as well as she should have . she can somewhat sing tho she juss shuda chose a diff song .
Sun, January 31, 2010 5:28 PM
complexion huh all i see is a black woman
folk is weird as hell
Sun, January 31, 2010 5:37 PM
Replying to ANGELAHEIRESS: GO GIRL! RIGHT ON! What is wrong with a person of any ethnicity, speaking proper english? What does sounding “white” mean?
As being pacific islander, I am proud to see Ms. Virginia win! Since I have been watching Ms. America for many years, and finally we have someone of color winning! There only had been a few through out the years, but she deserves it! She has the natural beauty and a very positive attitude. GO GIRL!!!!
Has anyone looked at other websites about Ms. Virginia? there are some racist people out there! I can’t believe those people! I can’t believe the people on here are hating on Mrs. Virginia and realizing there are far more worst things out there, than to worry about her “forehead” or that she sounds “white.” We should all be together on this!!! What the F*** is really going on this world? sheesh!!
Sun, January 31, 2010 5:49 PM
Congrats my dear..u deserve it!!!!!!
Sun, January 31, 2010 6:26 PM
@ha
Obama has made a bad situation WORSE. Think for yourself and stop drinking the kool-aid. I know that as Black people, we are blind to the faults and shortcomings of our own, but just because he’s Black doesn’t make him a good or effective leader. He’s NOT! And all the campaign promises he’s broken, and all the things he SPECIFICALLY called Bush out on, he’s ended up doing!! Open your eyes hun.
Sun, January 31, 2010 6:45 PM
You listen to too much Rush Limbaugh and know nothing about governing. Are you one of those black people who thought you heard him say he will give your lazy mind a job? You obviously have no inkling of what governing is so we will leave your ignorance at that. No economy since time immemorial…can be turned in a year. Instead of displaying your ignorance – go and read something on Kondratieff cycles. Silly rabbit!
For your own information – Took a country that had surpluses and left it with a trillion dollar deficit. If Obama had not done anything to stimulate the economy, you would not be spewing your ignorance behind the monitor – your would be queuing for beans and a bun – Depression Era style. What is the deficit now? Get your knowledge together or stick to gossiping on them blogs. Leave Hopey out of it.
Mon, February 1, 2010 5:44 PM
I remember back a looooonnnng time ago when beauty pageants were based more on BEAUTY rather trying to pull in more demographically differentiated viewers and making political statements. Doesn’t matter what color you are, your race, or where you come from as long as you are beautiful. This girl is not beautiful.
Thu, February 4, 2010 4:10 AM
Fake ass hair. Can’t sing. Trying to look like Beyonce. What’s special about this new Miss America. Not a damn thing!
TO: Happiness in 2010
“Black President, Black First Lady, Black Disney Princess, Black Miss America…. we are cleaning UP. What’ll we take next?”
Blacks aren’t cleaning up shit! Blacks are still spreading HIV worldwide. Not to mention lagging behind in education and still shooting each other on the streets for dumb shit. Blacks are still pathetic with owning their own businesses. Hell, Asians comes to America with nothing but the clothes on their backs and end up more successful and wealthy and educated than native born blacks!
Thu, February 4, 2010 3:23 PM
to most of all the comments that wre positive i am glad to see another very beatiful black woman win the contest she will be a positive roll model and say somthing good for the black race even though we need more i agree to but stop hating on her she served well
Sun, February 7, 2010 8:29 PM
Many of u r hypocrits, spewing all that rethoric about self hate because some people critise her looks and talents. Most of u spend ur entire day on this site critising and downing certain black actors, singer etc and go on to defend ur actions by saying that this is a gossip blog where people are free to have an opinion. Well u know what be mature enough that when others have negative responses to people that u like deal wid it and stfu.
i just wanted to say i would like to se someone write an articlt about black women winning beauty pageants why it is a good thing and the side of it all that is positive because there are a lot of negetive prospects about that kind ofthing ot only some white people feeling it but black people as well why is there such negativity about our black women winning beauty pageants we need to erace self hate about that talking about what they have or are to justify their heritage at least i don’t remember any black women i know being negative about herself or her heritage as far as i know they were all happy to represent their race someone needs to put the record straight since we had a black miss america to miss usa yo miss universe to miss teen usa and so on as far as i know they wre all supposed to be proud and i’m not talking just about this bourd impitiularly but everywhere i have seen on this internet about black beauty qweens stop hating an start loving we should be proud is the point. thank you.
Thu, February 18, 2010 2:15 PM
