Foolywang Of The Week
Aubrey O'Day. You look a mess. Calling Lil Kim's plastic surgeon was not a good look. Neither is your trying to stay relevant. It does give us a few laughs and shivers though.

YBF was on the scene at last night’s BluePrint 3 tour stop at the Washington D.C. Verizon Center. And at the beginning of Jay-Z’s set, a crowd goer obviously thought he could be a better hype man than Memphis Bleek.
A short dude from stage left jumped over the yellow jacket security surrounding the stage, hopped his ass on the stage, and danced up to the middle where Jay and Bleek were like he belonged in the set too. Funniest.Ish.Ever.
Mr. Carter’s tall, bald, and burly (and scary) bodyguard Norm semi-nicely tried to get his ass off the stage. After dude tried to fight back, bodyguard literally bodied homeboy, yanked him up and tossed his ass down off the stage–a few feet drop down. Unreal yet hilarious.
Jay’s response: “So that’s how y’all doing it in D.C.? Cut that sh*t out. [insert Hov laugh]“

Venus Williams was spotted at PGA National Resort & Spa shooting the cover for upcoming book “Come to Win”. It hits shelves summer 2010. Yay for Venus.
It’s been confirmed that GQ is naming all 3 fellas–Drake, Wale, and Kid Cudi– “Man of the Year” this year. Â All of them did a photoshoot in last month (above) for the magazine’s “Man of the Year” issue, but it was unclear which one of them received the title.
But we’ve confirmed with Wale’s rep that GQ decided to take a different approach this year. Instead of doing 1 big A-lister as the GQ Man of the Year (Jay-Z and 50 Cent are two of the most recent recipients), they decided to give the title to 3 up and coming guys who are killing the scene. Congrats to the fellas. The issue hits stands in December.
On another note, Wale is doing “Jimmy Fallon” on November 10th–his album release date. And Kid Cudi is now set to take Kanye’s place and touring with Lady Gaga soon.

YBF’s New York Correspondent Kourtney was on the scene at Whitney Houston’s listening party last night for I Look To You at the Lincoln Center in NYC. And here’s the lowdown:
Whitney looked incredibly fabulous at her comeback event in this extra fitted leathery knee length dress. Clive Davis hosted the entire glamorous affair and it was fabulous–folks were saying one of the best listening parties in years. Spotted chumming it up in the crowd: Martha Stewart, Gayle King, Steve Harvey, Monica, R. Kelly, AJ, Vivia Fox, Freddie Jackson, and every urban radio Program Director in the country, and tons of mainstream media outlets. Alicia Keys & Swizz Beatz walked in hand in hand. The two were spotted being very affectionate all night–like they weren’t trying to hide anymore. I guess Mashonda signed those divorce papers finally. A. Keys & Swizzy danced and partied and videotaped themselves having fun to the track they produced for Whitney called “Million Dollar Bill”. Interesting.
They played 9 songs off the album. R. Kelly produced two songs on it–much to the crowd’s surprise. Whitney chose to put a throwback track on there and she chose “A Song For You.” We hear the crowd was standing up, crying, and just emotional when they heard it. Whitney’s speech was fab as she told everyone that her mother is the one who inspired her to do another album. And Whit’s voice is sounding great. Looks like the old Whitney is back!
Track listing for I Look To You: Million Dollar Bill-Produced by Alicia Keys & Swizz Beatz
Nothin’ But Love
Call You Tonight
I Look To You
Like I Never Left (featuring Akon)
A Song For You
I Didn’t Know My Own Strength
Worth It
For The Lovers
I Got You
One of the fave songs on the album is the title track “I Look To You.” Whit gets very intimate on it and it talks about who she was and who she is now. She says a line “I wasn’t built to break” that made everybody in the room feel her struggle.  Another fave track is R. Kelly’s “Salute” that may or may not make the album on September 1st. It indeed sounded like a song for Mr. Bobby Brown.

Well if this wasn’t a waste of a damn hour I don’t know what was. What we leaned last night: Everybody in Danity Kane is still fired from Danity Kane and “let out of their contracts”. Even Dawn. However, Dawn confirmed last night on the show that she has a solo deal with Bad Boy and is also working with some new group on Diddy’s upcoming Last Train To Paris album. Other than that I couldn’t get past her new haircut to pay attention to much else she said.
Aundrea decided not to come to the reunion show–she’s still bitter. D. Woods and Aubrey “explained” why Danity Kane split, and their body language and eye rolling and vagueness pretty much blamed it on Dawn and her solo deal. It’s pretty obvious these chicks don’t all get along anymore. D. Woods also said the professionalism in the group and around them was never there from the get–so things went from bad to worse.
TheYBF.com exclusively reported 8 months ago that Dawn had a solo deal in the works and we were called liars by the chicks of Danity Kane, Diddy, and others. Who’s was the liar now?
Up next for the other girls: Shannan is working with a foundation and wants to focus on her marriage and maybe “go country”. D.Woods is coming out with a solo album and a single this summer. And Aubrey is getting her own reality show and doing more Broadway. Lord help us all.

The YBF was on the scene for Erykah Badu’s exclusive listening session for her new album New AmErykah, Pt. 1: 4th World War. It went down last night at NY’s earthy and energetic Chamber of Mirrors. YBF NY Correspondent Tichanda hit up the event and for a review…

Check out the multiple videos and Janet interview from the listening party.Â
Janet Jackson’slistening party went down recently in the NYC and The YBF was on the scene. It went down at New World Stages theater and it was all about the throwback to old Janet fabulousness. NY Correspondent Tichanda hit up the listening party and caught Janet in action.Â
As L.A. Reid, J.D. and Co. played and listened to the ten tracks (about half the album), there were looped video of still photos and old music videos of Janet played on the big screen of the old movie house-all in black and white. Very film noir/old Hollywood glam/dominatrix all rolled into one. Typical Janet.
Tichanda’s overall review of the album: It’s bangin’. The beats are hard, upbeat fast, electronica…definitely made for the club. A lot of layering so you can’t tell what Janet’s soft little voice is saying but – can u ever? They kicked it off with a new track called “I.D.”. Then went into “Feedback”, “Luv” and “Rock With U” (yes same title as her brother MJ but a different song). A track called “Rollercoaster” was hot- can’t wait for the remix to this! Missyis also on a track that is slick. The video will surely be hot. She smoothes it out with a softer side- songs that make u want to lay in bed and reminisce about lost loves, new loves, and out of reach crushes. Especially on “Greatest Ex (The Best Ex Ever)”.
At the end of a long hour or so of listening music in the dark and watching the same video over and over the house lights came on and L.A. Reid and Janet (in a long pony tail and skin tight black outfit) walked on stage. There was a brief interview where Janet joked around and explained her inspiration behind Discipline. (A song they never played by the way).  She said she wanted to say how she was feeling and go back to the authentic Janet which she did.
When asked why most songs on the album are about love and sex, she ended the night with the response “I love love , and I love sex!”-in which she received a thunderous applause and standing ovation.
Clearly with this new album she’s trying to get back to the vintage Janet we all know and love-extra popish dance tracks with an edge, sexy ballads, and whispery words that are still catchy some kind of way. This 10th studio album of hers just may work out to be one of her best. Disciplinedrops February 26th.

“It’s not the typical dope boy’s life…”-American Gangster, 2007
That one line in this movie literally describes its whole feel. Denzel Washington works it out as Frank Lucas, a North Carolina born crime boss who reinvents the dope boy game in every borough of New York. But that’s just the beginning. And I will say, after watching this screening last night, I’m officially convinced T.I.’s whole arrest was a publicity stunt. Way too many coincidental similarities in this movie and with his case. Just jokes…kinda.
Â
While Denzy definitely doesn’t pull the same Oscar worthy performance in this movie that he did for Training Day, the story itself he represents here is simply incredible. Frank Lucas’ real life story is one that should be added in to the black history books as a lesson to teach a young black mind. Not how to be a riduiculously upgraded and non traditional dope boy, but about how to truly (but legally) own a piece of America. After Frank learns everything he can from his crime boss mentor who ran New York in his own right before his sudden death, Frank moves from being his driver and confidant to singlehandedly changing the game and mindset of black folks around him. Lesson: Cut out the middle man and do everything in your business by yourself and for yourself. Whether others can handle your success or not.  If black Americans applied this lesson to our own legal and valid business practices, there will be a power shift in society that is sixty years too late.  American Gangster is a story about a true hustler who was smart enough to surround himself with only his family in order to gain true ownership and power of an entire city. And it doesn’t hurt that he knew being loud and flashy and showcasing his millions would have nothing but a negative effect on his business. Take notes hustlers.Â
Ladies–don’t get too excited about the sexiness that is T.I.P. Harris being in this movie, since his role as Frank’s nephew Stevie Lucas is actually miniscule.  Same with Common who plays Frank’s brother Turner Lucas. But both pull it off fabulously…maybe a little too fabulously. Idris Elba is the one to be hot about–dude’s sexiness is all up and through parts of the movie and he plays his bad boy role to the tee. RZA surprisingly kills his “Moses Jones” character and is one of the “good guys” this time around.  After running the streets in the D-boy game, he flips the script and uses his knowledge of heroin and other street drugs to catch the big boy drug lords like Frank Lucas.  I’m sure the Oscar crew is going to be salivating over Russell Crowe’s major performance as Detective Richie Roberts. He’s a subpoena server who works on the police force during the day, all while going to law school at night. And is trying his damndest to be one of the 25% of NY cops who weren’t crooked back in the late 60’s early 70’s.Â
Â
As for the ladies–Ruby Dee plays Frank’s mother and she’s still got it. I’m sure the casting director thought actress Lymari Nadal was a good fit as Eva “Miss Puerto Rico” Lucas, but seeing that I could barely understand a word she said throughout the movie, I beg to differ. Melissia Hill does a fabulous job as Redtop, Frank’s HBIC handling his packaging of the product at the stash house.
Gangster is worth seeing just to take a peek inside the mind of an entreprenurial genius who was beyond his times. And rightly so. The soundtrack of the movie definitely sets the tone and tells you exactly what’s going on in the mind of Frank as his empire rises and falls. And the scenes are obvious where Jay got the inspiration for his album, since his whole LP could have been the soundtrack to this movie. It’s an incredible journey with the production details only movie buffs can appreciate, like the metaphorical habits and style of Frank Lucas.
American Gangster is The Sopranos meets ATL meets The Shield…with a more intricate and complicated plot that makes you second guess the meaning of right and wrong. And I loved it. YBF Rating: A-
Catch American Gangster at theaters starting Friday, November 2nd.
