Jill Scott To Her Fans: Shut the F*ck Up!

Jill Scott Hollywood Performance
Pic Source
Who pissed off Jilly?!  A YBF reader who hit up Jill Scott's Hollywood concert performance Tuesday tells YBF that Jill snapped on an audience of fans Tuesday night right before she kicked off her performance:
People from the crowd screamed "I love you!" 3 times at the House of Blues Sunset Strip last night. Her response was "Shut the f*ck up or I will have you taken out of here and I'll GIVE you your money back...security I'm serious". She also said "I'm 35. I'm grown. Dont tell me what to do" a few mins before her outburst...
Apparently several of the concert goers were put off by Jill's actions and had to complain to the House of Blues about it all. And several folks reportedly looked disgusted and felt like the concert was ruined by the harsh words. Hopefully that divorce isn't messing with my girl's head. It all seems highly uncharacteristic of one of my fave YBF chicks. But I put money on it that somebody in front the stage was yelling something unnecessary and y'all know Jill don't play that ish.  Queens shouldn't swing if you know what I mean...But I'm bout to take my earrings off get me some Vaseline...

ok, what is with the hate?

ok, what is with the hate? Ok, all musicians are not going to be liked by everyone, but to all of those people on here who feel like they need to call the woman out of her name- did she do something personally to you?, I mean ya'll are talking greasy liek she personally did something to her. Jill is one of the most humble, classy musicians that are in the industry and ya'll want to call her out of her b/c of he say/she say? get a life people. Oh, I am from philly and had a chance to meet her by chance on the street- wonderful, wonderful person. Very Gracious!!

If Ms. Scott isn't a "People

If Ms. Scott isn't a "People Person", maybe she should've chosen a more insular career. How many "bad days" can one person have? Especially at the expense of her fans...
D Marie's picture

Many people who claim to have

Many people who claim to have been there have stated there was an unruly fan in the front row. That explains her outburst. Her words were directed at this one person. As for people who say Jill is arrogant, I hope this is not her personality. I really hope she is closer to who she portrays in her songs and onstage. Having said that, it is possible to have an unpleasant interaction with someone in a few minutes. Entertainers know a few minutes or even a few seconds is all the time they have to make a good impression on people. Therefore, they should treat everyone graciously. All the people posting negative comments about Jill's weight or the collective weight of Black women in general are ignorant. Her weight is her business. She is an artist not a fashion model. The people griping about Hollywood and its portrayal of Blacks in the media ought to be more concerned with the pushing of the thug and whore images than with what any one person weighs. Kudos to entertainers of all weights and shades of brown getting exposure. After all not everyone looks the same. Some of you posted under the guise of racial harmony and solidarity then in the same paragraph made all kinds of disparaging remarks about larger people. That is discrimination just like hating on light-skinned or dark-skinned Blacks is discrimination. Just like separating people based upon their hair style. Someone else's weight and their reasons for maintaing it/losing it/gaining it are none of your business. Worry about yourselves and what kind of person you are inside. That is what counts.
upwardly mobile's picture

If all of you REALLY find

If all of you REALLY find deplorable the pervasive "loud, brassy, larger" (I've substituted the word "larger" for "overweight" or "fat" because I mean no harm) black woman image, wouldn't that make your coming to this site, your making Natasha famous, hypocritical? *huffs* You're all just talking...
Mardou Fox's picture

It is amazing that you only

It is amazing that you only interacted with her for 3 minutes and came to the conclusion that she is arrogant. Could it be you are looking for this type of behavior in her?
Essence's picture

This is not the character of

This is not the character of Jill. I believe someone near the stage may have made some uncompromising statements and Jill felt she had to put that person or persons in check. She has always been classy. I think there is more to the story and the person that reported this don't know the entire story.
Essence's picture

I also think that the image

I also think that the image of black women in this country is being maligned and the folks who run the advertising industries, Television and Hollywood, are singling us out for ridicule. The old throw back, fat, loud bossy black mammy is back for a reason and that reason is to mock us. I was watching tv last evening and nearly every black woman on, including the commercials, was overweight and silly talking. Plenty of us watch our weight, exercise, wear makeup well and eat right. Plenty of white and hispanic women don't, but you rarely ever see them portrayed this way in movies and tv.
Mable's picture

I don't know who the stupid

I don't know who the stupid A$$ people are leaving comments about fat black women but you need to put the pork rines down (we dont even eat that $hit dumb a$$). Jill scott is amasingly talented and can sing better than these skinny white bit@#es any day. I hate stupid a$$ white people who try to put down talented black people doing something positive with their life. You need to get a life. Besides she could buy your a$$ and make you her servant. It is unbelievable that you

It is unbelievable that you could possibly say that about Patti LaBelle. You need to get your ish together and read a music biography of Miss LaBelle - she's been singing/performing since before you were born and the only reason why people liek you think she's washed up is because you don't know any better. Miss LaBelle is FIERCE and you and everyone else need to recognize!! I’ve seen Jill Scott in concert before. She talks to much. It takes away from her performance. She’s just a bitter fat broad right now….Lose weight…hit up celebrity fit club…get over your divorce…and keep it moving!!! Don’t become a flop like Patti LaBelle.

Interesting how the topic is

Interesting how the topic is about Jill possibly going off on fans.... What does Jill's weight have to do w/ anything? Mammy? And black women in general being overweight? Sounds like some illegitimate children got a hold of a computer and are stirring up some sh*t. I like how not many people addressed these fools. Let's keep it + folks and stay on course.
ReputableJones's picture

Although I understand how

Although I understand how unhealthy being obese is, I do feel giving hollywood the control to determine what is attractive is part of the problem. We need more Black film makers who will not only show one type of person. As far as being attractive; as the saying goes "Some do, some don't, some would, some won't, whatever makes you happy" Not all people are attracted to the slim bodies. Again we allow others to determine what we should like. To each his own. I may like chocolate brothas (which I do) and some may say that they are ugly and portrayed as thugs and gang bangers all the time, but I like what I like and can't nobody tell me that I am wrong because of what is shown on TV.

Bill On Oct 19, 2007 | Reply | Quote I probably should not be letting this secret out of the bag since I work in the industry, but many of you who read between the lines. Have figured out that Hollywood, television and the advertisers in general prefer to use the old stereotype of Black women as the comic or aggressive mammy. If ten black women show up for a role on television, or in film, the casting agents(invariably white women) will always chose the over-weight, less attractive, less feminine behaving of the actresses. ----- Thanks for writing this. I am a young incredibly thin pretty black woman who has been trying to make it in acting. Just about every casting call that will even consider a black woman, want her to be fat and sasssy which is code for MAMMYish!! People do not sleep! Do you really think that the majority of black women are overweight angry and unfashionable? I mean come on. This is what Hollywood would like for you to think and apparently, sadly many of you do. Similarly, these stereotype in casting happens to everyone. Thin blondes (whether cute or not) get first dibs on all the roles and poor Asian women don't have a chance. Please think before you start making broad generalizations. Just as there are fat white women there are fat black women. Why are black people so quick so condem themselves. We are the ONLY group of people who continually publicly put ourselves down.

bIG fat black mammys are not

bIG fat black mammys are not attractive and i don't give a damn what all you hat pig sistas. you just can't control your appetites and have no will power to eat right and move your fat asses, so of course you like cows as big as you. As bad as rap is they at least revealed many black women to be sexy with killer bodies that any man would want. Not just some hood rat who likes big women because that's all he can get. The bigger world needs to see us in all varieties, not just that crap old timey image that hollywood puts out. I hate hollywood you think they ever tell a white or a hispanic woman that she's too beautiful to reprsesent her race! Hell no, they only do that to us.
laverne's picture

As A WHITE WOMAN WITH THREE

As A WHITE WOMAN WITH THREE BEAUTIFUL, BIRACIAL DAUGHTERS, I WOULD APPRECIATE IT IF YOU DO NOT GET ANGRY OVER HALLE BERRY OR ANY OTHER BEAUTIFUL BIRACIAL, OR BLACK WOMAN HAVING A RELATIONSHIP ON SCREEN WITH A WHITE ACTOR. I THINK THEY ARE A JOY TO WATCH AND IT SHOWS PROGRESS.
samantha's picture

I am old enough to remember

I am old enough to remember that in the 60's, two beautiful actresses, Tracy Reed and Janye Kennedy could barely get hired for movies and Television, because the writers and producers told these black women taht they were too beautiful to be portrayed as black. Ms. Kennedy eventually took a job as a weekend football anchor, but miss. Reed seemed to have faded away. They would never say such a thing about a white woman, indeed they want to display white women as the epitome of beauty all over the world. Jessica Alba, Eva Longoria, Eve Mendes and others don't look like the typical hispanic woman, but they are the ones who always fing work, not the avearge looking, short, fat hispanic woman. Those women aren't seen too often on tv and in the movies.Even women like Eva Larue(i was told she is black) always has to play an hispanic, because once again Hollywood has an image of certain women to uphold. The women on The Girlfriends television show are beautiful, sophisticated with beautiful, normal weight bodies, which is why no major network, ABC, NBC, CBS, would carry their show. Entertainment is all about fantasy, so they show women that men want to dream about, God forbid they should show a beautiful, svelte, black sexy goddess in racist Hollywood. She would have to be someone the public would laugh at, the MAMMY. Wakeup for because BILL is right.
norma's picture

well my 2 cents on the weight

well my 2 cents on the weight issue... sure, we cant put people down because of their weight, but the fact is, obesity is reaching epidemic proportions, not just among Americans, but black women in particular. We might say we celebrate a black woman's “thickness” , etc, but at the end of the day its not healthy and we might as well acknowledge that. Go into any nursing home and look at all those people youi seen in in their 70’s and 80’s… how many obese people do you see? Not many. And why ? Becasuse most obese people die before they get to that age. Lets think about that.
Yes I Said It's picture

Jill Scott makes beautiful

Jill Scott makes beautiful music. Though being overweight is not healthy neither is viewing a big woman as a "Mammy" stereotype. Yes there are different sizes and shapes of beautiful black women. What I don't understand is why no one says anything about the smaller artists tring to make themselves look more and more like white women. Long blonde weaves and colored contacts? These women do not represent ME as a black woman. I am not skinny or fat. I have long hair and I'm caramel brown. I don't load a bunch of FAKENESS on my body either. So if those of you think lacefront wigs down a womans back and FINALLY being able to fit in a sample size will send out a message about black women, get real. All that says is that we have been trying all our lives to win white peoples favor and acclaim. What we don't understand is that we will NEVER be seen as equally beautiful until we force these production companies to see US. Don't go see movies that portray our black men as ignorant drug lords/rappers/convicts. Don't go see the movies where the black female lead has to be biracial Paula Patton/Halle Berry/Kerry Washington. These women are beautiful but the do not dictate beauty. Please put Denzel in a movie where he is not lusting after some biracial/latina/white woman. Please put Halle in a movie where Halle's love interest is not a white/latino man. The last time Halle was Strictly Business and he was a RICH black man. It's sad when Tyler Perry is the only one willing to show other types of black woman and half of them had weaves. I retire my soap box! Peace.

I probably should not be

I probably should not be letting this secret out of the bag since I work in the industry, but many of you who read between the lines. It has become an unspoken rule in Hollywood today to do this. I personally know that when Ms. Walters was interviewing new candidates for The View, several beautiful, intelligent, rational speaking black women applied for the position but were turned down because Ms. Walters and her producers had a certain image in mind that they wanted to hire; she had to be overweight, silly, loud and above all non-threatening in appearances to white women. Over half of the hispanic women in our country are overweight and short, but Hollywood and Television casting agents reject these images for hispanic females, preferring to showcase them as beautiful, svelte, alluring sex goddess. Their is a reason for this and some of you have figured out. It is the same old Hollywood stereotyping of Black women from the 1930's brought back again. I don't blame you for being angry because it is unfair to constantly single out one group of people for ridicule. I think Monique does a terrible disservice to your community, but because she fits the old image she will always find a job in Hollywood.

I feel like Jay Z with "Kingdom Come" nobody's getting the message. I'm in a G4 going over somebody's head. This isn't about bashing big women or being intimidated by anyone. The point is that the Mass Media loves to portray us in a negative way...where we can't compete with the throne that the White woman sits upon. We have beautiful women in all shapes, sizes, colors, etc. But why are there only a couple of real A-list black actresses in Hollywood? How white actresses are there in Hollywood? This is the point. They do not want the men drooling over us but it's okay for everybody to look at white women or mixed women as the epitome of beauty. Where does that leave the Black woman... somewhere acting a fool with an attitude, big & bodacious...at least that's what the media thinks.

How does it HELP to diss another Black woman (a celebrity at that) publicly? What type of example are you setting on this board? Perhaps some men don't find you attractive because of your mouth. Granted, we could all do SOMETHING to improve on ourselves and YES, Black women especially have to watch our weight due to our high risk for heart disease and diabetes. But get the F&*K out of her with saying the only way Hollywood portrays us is in the mammy stereotype! Jill Scott is one of about 5 sistas who quickly come to mind holding it down as a full-figured woman in the public eye and quite frankly, brings a different look to the game. Most of these chicks go the route of trying to look biracial-the long weaves, the colored contacts, ridiculous amounts of bronzer, etc.-that is the MAJORITY. Do you read this site or what? Nobody's cranky and it has

Nobody's cranky and it has nothing to do with skinny B*&$! The point is we as a race, have been looked down upon and brainwashed. It goes far beyond the looks of being Skinny & Fat thing. We're talking about the negative images that are purposely portrayed of us. They do not promote us as being beautiful and in shape, or intelligent. We have to be Loud, Obnoxious, and Big (ex. Big Mommas House, Madea, Norbit, The Clumps in Nutty Professor, Monique, etc) As if that's the only way we are. The Hollywood bigwigs love producing movies that show us like that. There aren't enough quality images of us blasted across the movie screens or quality movies for that matter. I know I'm not the only one tired of the Blaxploitation films. And if you are Obese you should consider healthier alternatives to live a better quality life. Stop making excuses... Face the facts, it's not healthy. It has nothing to do with what looks good or better it's about cleansing the inside and excess weight causes and leads to major health concerns inside and outside of your body. And by the way I enjoy eating all types of candy, dessert, etc. I just have enough sense to know that I can't sit my FAT ASS around and do nothing about it when I do indulge. I go and work it off at the gym and I feel very Jolly about that.
