Here's the third and final version of Kanye's "Flashing Lights" video. Clearly all his videos have underlying meanings. So...speak on it.

WANT YOUR OWN AVATAR? GET IT HERE.

My depiction of the video is

My depiction of the video is as follows:At first he is confused as to where he is which is in the limelight of the industry everyone around him is looking at him as the newcomer and then the man says yeah he did it as in he sold himself for the price of fame. The woman at the door signifies a loved one or his loved ones that he has left behind to gain that fame, The waitress on the floor symbolizes him being stripped naked of his orginal self that is why she is on the floor vulnerable with her dress up. Him sleeping shows the state that he is in at the moment because everything seems like a dream but when he wakes and tries to recapture the past it is gone from him i.e. the woman running from him. The chalk outline and the people dying represents those that have died or either sold themselves for the fame and fortune. He then jumps out of the window because just like the others the only way out is by death but he does not hit the ground and die he is flying upwards because he is still engulfed in this lifestyle and can't get out of it yet.

Haven't seen the 2nd one but

Haven't seen the 2nd one but i like this one much better than the first one. I think it's about losing yourself and not knowing how you got to that point. He was trying to get that girl in the video and she was only leading further from everyone and everything else until she was able to lead him to his death. Don't know if it's right, but I tried...

So if they all have

So if they all have underlying meanings... Video #1 -Flashing lights cause the cops are coming after her murdering as@ Video#2 -Flashing Lights surrounding the model (literally) Video#3 -Flashing lights as in the spiritual world, crossing over, ghosts, etc.

What the hell is going on in this video? I do not understand and I don't think I like it

I don't think any of these

I don't think any of these videos are supposed to "mean" anything. They're just supposed to get people talking/thinking...and have succeeded in doing so.

My only question is why is he

My only question is why is he flying up instead of falling down when he goes out the window?

The only reason whomever

The only reason whomever don't like the video is because you're too dumb and lazy to try to interpret it. That's whats wrong with film/videos today people always want someone to explain or lay it out in front of them instead of thinking for themselves and taking from it what you want.

well, my major in school is

well, my major in school is Art so I have a different interpretation than everyone.... Kinda like he's chasing the girl like people chase the fame, he's chasing "fame" through every obstacle and at the end you're left all alone

Sorry Sharonda, as someone

Sorry Sharonda, as someone who goes to gallery openings frequently, this last video is reminiscent of what lots of photographers are doing now. It is art, it's not a stretch and it's not just because it's "different." Actually, it's only different in the rap music world. In the art world the lighting, the intricacy of the costumes, the dark mood, and the faux grunginess of it all is VERY artsy. Youtube his "Homecoming" video and you'll see that Kanye has a great eye and sense of artistry. His success is no mistake people.

PURE GARBAGE!! KANYE TRIES TOO DAMN HARD. WHO THE HELL HAS TIME TO MAKE 3 DIFFERENT VIDEO VERSIONS OF A SONG. BESIDES WHY CAN'T THESE ARTISTS JUST STICK TO MAKING A VIDEO THAT ACTUALLY CORRESPONDS TO THE LYRICS IN THE SONG? GIVE ME A BREAK KANYE. HE'S REALLY REACHING THIS TIME.

It's alright, very dark as mentioned previously. But that's just Kanye trying to be "Edgy" and "Artsy" so that those who "swim" in certain "circles" feel he's more than just a "Hood representer" if y'all know what I'm gettin' at. But hey, I give him credit for trying and doing something different. It's nice to see at least someone in Hip-Hop these days is trying to elevate their game. I like it better than the last 2 versions(1st version comes in 2nd), but that's not to say that I'm some "emo" dark person though. I just appreciate thinking outside the box.
My sentiments exactly Clue is all over this vid. I appreciate the dark. It hides reality and we all know reality is hidden for a reason.

Don't worry - it's not all

Don't worry - it's not all that deep. In this video, the director(s) just srung together a disjointed plot with "deep visual artistic images." It's their way of creating the concept of Kanye as a "visionary." The video means nothing and everything - whatever you want it to mean. It ain't Shakespeare, people. I love(d) the song, but I am tired of it now due to all of this overhyped nonesense. You go, Kanye - do your thang!
Are y'all kidding me's picture

I got the 'Clue' feel from it

I got the 'Clue' feel from it too but it still didn't make any gotdamn sense. I thought the 2nd version was the best - definitely. The message of it got through 100% with no room for interpretation, yet it still made you think.

I normally like Kanye's

I normally like Kanye's videos, but I have to say that this one is not that great. IMO, he is trying too hard! The video is obviously symbolic, but it just looks like overdone symbolism to me (as well as overly-artistic). Yes, it's good to get your audience to think, but the video should contain symbols that can allow the audience to make various inferences about it. Like, what the hell was that? Too many themes in one short moment.

[quote

I think the video is about how people will die for the flashing lights. In the end, if you're not in those lights, you're in a sense dead to the public. How those people died in it and such. And if you're dead, they will bring someone else down with them. You end up being somewhat deserted. That's as much as I can make of it. But I like it. It's rare that videos make you think and I'm all for the expansion of the mind.
THAT'S AN INTERPRETATION OF THE SONG NOT THE VIDEO: To me the video is in some ways abt is a mini-suspense thriller, because it keeps you watching. The vid is about love gone wrong: a maid who turns psycho and kills her employer who she had an affair with, same theme runs through with the other video where Kanye is killed using a spade. I hate that video it objectifies women as these over-sexed psychopaths and Kanye seriously dissappointed me with that wack vid! But this one is more tastefully done, its subversive because you have to keep watching to see what happens in the end. Its a social comment on male-female power relations when things go seriously wrong. Is it a true reflection on what happens in the music biz and how easy is it for SWF/SBF (single white/black female) to lose n turn psycho on high-roller male hiphoppers? I don't know, but in the end everybody suffers and Kanye being the only witness also goes down at the end as y'can see...I wonder if there'll be an R-16 rating on it for violence n scary images.
All
All three were brilliant and I think people are too literal. Sorry folks you need to go to some gallery openings. They're all art. The first one was pretty literal, woman loves material goods, it gets her no where, she feels empty. The second was basically a Vogue pictorial with the flashes, and each was literally a viable fashion shot, gorgeous. Also, though, she wanted things, lived for them, and she ended up raped and alone (listen to the lyrics). The third one literally was a Vogue pictorial, gorgeous and haunting in it images and wrapped in the theme of the ultimate clue game. It was about as literal as all the stupid booty shaking videos (which no one on this site ever questions or dissects ... shame black people!). It was meant to be stunning first, not as literal as the first two, although I like the interpretation that it was dying for the flashing lights. And THAT is why you need to go to art museums and gallery openings, because true art (which Kanye is creating) is meant to be interpreted through the lens of the viewer/listener. Nowadays we've become artistically lazy. We need it laid out and raunchy. Let's demand more people instead of criticizing a visionary!
I agree with you on most. (Although it is somewhat embarrassing) Especially the "artistically lazy" comment. In fact, I am greatful to see that there are a few people with enough substance to appreciate what Kanye is giving.

I don’t want to be the one to

I don’t want to be the one to over analyze this video but… Could this be his final cry for help! His Mother was a large part of his life… and he has been very sad since her death. Could he be writing his final chapter of his life before death… morbid I know! Or could this be a homage to his Mom’s life “flashing lights”!

Thanks Allie and

Thanks Allie and Geechielady! Also what if Kanye following the girl represented his failure in relationships? He wanted to catch up with the girl and she always escaped him...and it didn't help that he sat down at the table with the other's for a moment and forgot about her. Its like he came so close to being with her at the end of the video but it was too late and it all fell apart. i think it might mean that he comes so close to being happy with one woman but hes phased at times by the business...the flashing lights and gets thrown off track. ok im done.

I think the 1st video represents more of the 2nd verse- how it seems that Kanye cheated and him pleading his case; yeah the chick was half naked but its a visual of emotion. She burned her clothes (probably sybolizing things bought by her bf) and her kidnapping and hurting him is what we all think about when someone we love does us wrong... The 2nd video IMO represents more about the 1st verse - how you so worried about the glamerous life that the simple things (aka: "Im more of the/trips to Florida") are taken for granted. Overall, I applaud Kanye for the visuals and making music to stimulate our thought process :)
