Steve Harvey STOLE His Best Selling Book?!

A writer named Sharon P. Carson is claiming that Steve Harvey's new much talked about book Act Like A Lady, Think Like A Man is not his---it's HERS! She claims she holds the copyright to a book of the same exact title with the same exact premise. And much of his book is way too similar to hers. She wrote her book back in 2004 and is speaking out about Steve (or his people) stealing it and changing some words, then slapping his name on it so he could go make money for the publishers and "writers".  Here's some examples she gives:
Before Steve wrote: – WE (MEANING MEN) HAVE TO FEEL LIKE SOMEBODYS GOT OUR BACK, LIKE WE'RE THE KING, EVEN IF WE’RE NOT I wrote: THE GOLDEN RULE OF RELATIONSHIPS IS THIS, IF YOU PLACE YOUR OWN VALUE IN A RELATIONSHIP BELOW THAT OF A MAN, YOU WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO UP THE PRICE. Before Steve wrote: WHEN SHE’S IN LOVE WITH YOU SHE IS LOYAL TO YOU - SHE CAN’T SEE HERSELF WITH SOMEONE ELSE BECAUSE FOR HER NO ONE ELSE WILL DO….THATS A WOMANS LOVE I wrote: THIS IS WHAT HAS BEEN KEEPING WOMEN IN BAD RELATIONSHIPS; THEY THINK THAT NO ONE ELSE WILL DO THAT HE IS THE ONLY ONE IN THE WORLD FOR HER Before Steve wrote: If you’re telling your man you want a nose job and he sees nothing wrong with the nose you already have, then maybe you ought to think about leaving your nose alone, why run the risk of something going wrong when your man is already happy with the way you look. Why lose the extra weight if your man is happy with you the way you are? I WROTE HE WANTS ME TO LOSE WEIGHT If you are overweight, losing weight is a wonderful idea for many reasons, including your health. When you embark on a weight-loss program, however, do it because it is something you want to do and not just to please the man in your life. If it makes him happy in the process, that's great, but he might think you need to lose 50 pounds and you would be happy with 5.
This wouldn't be the first time a celeb claimed a book was theirs and it was actually stolen. Sadly, ish like this happens everyday. But when the person in question is getting Oprah publicity--it becomes an extra serious matter. You be the judge. Scandal?

Every young female adult

Every young female adult should read this book. This is very needed in today's society where young women are so promiscuous... Great job Steve!!

Much of copyright law is

Much of copyright law is based on the fact that there is not much new under the sun. Everyone knows that there have been plenty of ppl to contemplate male/female relationships. Therefore, it's a given that some ideas will be repeated throughout history. Copyright law does not protect the ideas but the way the ideas are strung together. Not only is there no similarity between the ways their ideas are strung together, but the examples she cites have entirely different underlying ideas. Her idea - if your man WANTS you to lose weight, do it for yourself and not for him - is completely different than his - if it ain't broke in HIS EYES then don't fix it. Tiles are not copyrightable either. She has absolutely no case.

I’ve had a million ideas just to see a book, a movie, a tv show come out almost exactly like what was in my head. So just because his book is about something she had done in the past doesn’t mean he stole. She’s going to lose if she goes to court and is going to be out of alot of money in court costs. I totally agree. This is just another variation of the "why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free" advice that everybody's grandma has been telling them for ages, and has been the subject of countless relationship books (Big Boom's book, Why Men Marry Bitches, etc). It's definitely not plagarism to have a similar perspective on relationships. What makes books on this topic do better than others is the way the message is delivered, and whether it's catchy.

Natalie: I actually thought

Natalie: I actually thought Steve’s book was very similar to the book his bodyguard Big Boom put out a year earlier titled ” If You Want Closure in , Start with Your : A Guide to Understanding Men”. I was wondering if that was where he had gotten the idea from :-/ Co-signing with those who noticed the similarities between Steve's book and Big Boom's! When I flipped through Steve's book in the bookstore, I didn't buy it because I thought a lot of what he was saying was real similar to Big Boom's book, which I've read and it's excellent! If Steve stole the premise of his book from anybody, it was Big Boom.

Saw Steve Harvey on Oprah and

Saw Steve Harvey on Oprah and was not impressed. He is obviously unintelligent and never clearly answered aby of the audience's questions. He made feeble attempts at using his "humor" to get his point across. I have never found him to be amusing and he seems to be full of himself. If he is guilty of plagiarism, then I hope the original author gets all the money that she deserves.

Martinique_fr: Anyone who

Martinique_fr: Anyone who have listened to Steve Harvey’s , would know that for years, he’s had this segment called “strawberry letters”, and that he’s been giving those advices to people. I think it’s pure coincidence that the topics in both books are similar. They’re obviously not written from the same propective. Perspective! That's the word I was trying to think of. The quotes are NOT a good example of any alleged plagarism. He's saying almost the opposite of what she is. Him...don't lose weigh if your man like you like you are. Her...lose the weight. Do it for you. Regardless, Steve (or whoever lol) is speaking nothing but the truth in this one. Sometimes the truth hurts. A friend of mine has been with her man for 3 years. She's thinking marriage. She asked him "how would you introduce me to your friends?" He said "as my friend." He didn't say what she wanted to hear, but at least now she knows. HE'S NOT THINKING ABOUT MARRIAGE and she can stop wasting her time and move on. Pretty much we need to stop lying to ourselves and just accept that sometimes a duck is just a duck. PREACH!

Steve's book has been out over a month....why you just now speaking up? Is it because of the book sucess toppled with its been on the #1 seller's list for weeks now??? Girl, please!!!!

sliz: Well personally, when I first read excerpts from the book I thought it sounded familiar to the stuff that I say to my own friends. I wouldn’t be suprised if a woman wrote this book first because women do have common sense contrary to what men think. I think it’s fine and all that Steve Harvey wants to give advice( if it’s even his) however women don’t need men to tell them how to have . It gets tiring to have all these about women trying to fix themselves for a relationships and these books that are written just for females. Why doesn’t somebody write a book for men these days and have shows for them. Society has been very sexist lately towards females, and frankly, its sickening. It’s more women that are in now and more women are more independent. So how about a book for men so they can learn how to be real men, and learn what it means to court a woman and what it means to be a gentleman period. Women do not need men to tell them how to act and how to get a man. Society needs a reality check and it needs to happen now. That lady probably did write that book and I hope she gets paid for her ish being stolen. I completely concur.

I think Steve wrote this book

I think Steve wrote this book because its corny, and no one does corny like steve harvey. Its sexist and misogynistic and straight up simple! Sex is like "cookies", women are fish and men are fishermen. He perpetuates myths like women are naive, clueless and desperate and need a man to teach them how to make good choices in relationships, how to behave correctly so a man will want to marry you, or not cheat on you, or that you have to be on guard all the time, because all the women out here are willing to help your man cheat. Isn't it funny how men really believe, and want women to believe, that we are in constant competition for the last few "good men." Steve just wrote a book using every cliche he could find.

I think people might have

I think people might have already said this, but as an IP (Intellectual Property) law student, I think her case is EXTREMELY WEAK. I mean this "woman love thine self before you can find love" concept has been written in books, songs or poetry countless times. For example, the well know "he is just not that into you" book = same deal, just in different wordings and/or format. You cannot have a copyright over a concept or idea that is not only so broad and subjective but also seen as a "common sense" notion. Now the black uptown girl in me says, "HEIFER PLEASE, YOU NEED MORE PEOPLE"!!!!!!
Ummm....NO's picture

I think she honestly needs more people. What Steve Harvey told the co-writer, Denene Millner (who is very talented and did all of the writing of Steve's concepts), is nothing new. Methinks this woman needs more people. Who would still your concept and have the same title?

Um...first of all, the

Um...first of all, the premise of this book isn't a new one. How can someone steal an "idea" when the idea isn't original? All one can do is give their on unique twist to this already concieved notion. My grandmother told me to think like a man 11 years ago. Second, her thoughts aren't really that similar to his. Unless she has some more compelling evidence that she hasn't brought forward, I think she's just looking for an easy buck.

I dont believe for one second Steve stole this book. The title being similar means nothing. That phrase “Act Like A Lady, Think Like A Man” has been around since my grandmother can remember. This woman's case is flimsy,

This woman's case is flimsy, at best, likely due to the lack of truth in her statements. Steve Harvey worked with well established "authoress" Denene Millner, who helped him capture his thoughts in an eloquent, easy to read manner. Try again lady!

Ain't that something, I believe her, and even if he didn't steal the book from her, he stole the premise of the book from a guy that was supposedly his friend, and he also helped the man promote the book called "If You Want Closure in Your Relationship, Start With Your Legs: A Guide to Understanding Men" written by Big Boom...so whether she is telling the truth or not, his a$$ is still a THIEF!!

The similarities are NOT stricking, I repeat are NOT stricking.. this lady needs to sit dowwwnnnn please. The topic of this book is really an issue of commen sense so basically if anyone were to write a book on the same topic it is going to seem vaguely similar... I read "why do men love bitches", and I could compare excerpts from that book to Steve's book as well.. SO WAT... vague similarities do not constitute plagiarism... get a life lady and let Steve have this one boo boo :-0

Here's a thought... How is a WOMAN going to write a book telling people to "Think Like a Man??" Wouldn't a man be better suited to give that advice?? Just asking... And, unless you are married or in a stable relationship, why should any single woman looking for insight into successfull heterosexual relationships get a book produced by another single woman?? Pure Foolywang!! I'm a single woman and frankly I don't care what advice someone else in my same predicament has to give...common sense!
