So Sammy Sosa has finally come clean about his bleached skin. But homeboy is still in a slight denial: "It's a bleaching cream that I apply before going to bed. . . . I use [it] to soften [my skin], but [it] has bleached me some," the ex-baseball star told the TV network Univision. "I'm not a racist.I live my life happily . . . I don't think I look like Michael Jackson." Source But he does look like LeToya's long lost twin. And yes, the bleaching cream OF COURSE bleached your skin. Mad this dude seems shocked at the result...

In other news, Allen Iverson is leaving the Memphis Grizzlies after only being with them a very short time. He may even retire. And he hasn't really given a reason. But sources are saying there are some serious family issues going on....
The Randomness: 1. Papa Joe Jackson has been denied any part of Michael Jackson's estate...and barred from ever asking again. Good! Story 2. Hood fab weddings take 1! Story

Lauren: Ok first race is a

Lauren: Ok first race is a social construct. Yes there are phenotypic and genotypic traits typical in certain areas to tell you a persons origin of ancestry. But the terms Black, negro, Caucasian and white are markers we created to mostly divide and oppress one another. So if you basing your argument solely on someone saying they are not black, for them in the social sense they are not. Just like most Africans don’t consider themselves black, they consider themselves as Kenyan, or Liberian, etc. Its cultural. Some look at black as in black culture/American. Of course there are ppl who don’t want to be associated with the term black or its considered peoples because they are either self loathing or they don’t want the image or pre-conceived notions put on them.Second, not matter what he says someone who decides to take such a drastic measure as to alter their skin needs to look into some therapy. I do believe like some have suggested that b/c Dominican society looks down on darker skin people this has left an indelible mark on Sammy and he is unable to rise above it an love himself as he was. Too bad for him.I know ppl have suggested that we should be over this self hate but this is not just a black/white issue. MANY cultures all over the world wish to be lighter and not darker. India and China are two that stand out to me. In China lightening creams are BIG business. In India there are caste systems based on skin tone (among other things) the darker you are the lower down the system you go. So it started well before the slaves reached any of these shores.I wish Sammy was a better example for his ppl back home in DR. When he looks in the mirror I hope he realizes the disservice he did his fellow countrymen. Lisa, Let's stop with the "black construct" phrase it's a bit tired. In a nutshell, all that means is assimilate, take on an a strictly American persona and ignore your experiences and history. Sammy Sosa clearly has issues about his race and this is not the first clue that we've had from Mr Sosa. As for you comment about the skin issues in India and China, have you forgotten that the Britith colonized those countries as well? China was under British rule until 1997! The British were in India for over 300 years. The Europeans take white supremacy and imperialism everywhere that they go and that would of course include the Caribbean which is where Sammy hails from. The indigenous people of Africa and Asia existed for thousands of years without the caste system created of color created by Europeans. As far as race being used to oppress, it is the European who is the author of racism. Also, you must be in control of the economic structure in order to be a racist, therefore people of African descent cannot by true definition be racist. This also applies in African countries(also colonized by the British, French, and Dutch etc. for centuries)where many of the so-called leaders are backed by European allies who help them maintain control and who have an agenda.

Lovely One: Can we put this

Lovely One: Can we put this guy in the “I married a non-dark woman b/c I have color issues & years later I gave you evidence that this is a fact” Case Files?Did anyone notice Sammy’s hair texture changed as well? This is beyond the “Just For Me” kit! you got it :) case is closed for old sammy boy. looks like he found the perfect match for himself in ms. becky-latina, anyway. all he did was give jerry curl clue after green contact clue after becky obsession clue to the worthy sisters out to see and move on from. what a pair. i've moved on from the sammies, and the joes, and i thank them for all the clues they give. imagine having jon gosselin for a husband anyways...a weak minded man is not a prize. i'll say it again- a weak mined man is NOT a prize. but... he may just be a perfect match for the woman with the brain power to get a boob job which falls to her waist without the help of a push up bra. god made that happen, they're a perfect match. now, it's time for the catherine jackson's of the world to upgrade. learn how to attract a good specimen, study them and learn what they're about...jesus is pretty much pushing yall into it.

He’s getting older and he should try and make amends. He seems like he’s done a whole lot of evil in his life. joe jackson is a greedy mufug...grrrr... :) happy?:) he's one of the reasons why i like to let little puny minded men find their appropriate counterparts and be happy/messy with them. imagine if catherine had dropped him, studied her craft, and picked someone with the same size brain to help raise mike and the rest...much better for all involved. joe was a predator, dangerous in many ways. but a weak man would have been dangerous to a healthy life, too...so, if they like themselves an amber or manipulative becky somebody i think is cruella deville and chase right past that sweet thing i think would be best for them...i know our brains are not the same size, and I let that funny little fool be where he wants to be:) like others have said very well, sammy's pretty funny too..using bleaching cream like lotion, funny little boy :)

lala: Why is everyone even

lala: Why is everyone even suprised? Can you blame black people for trying tro be white? Just open up a magazine! Beyonce, alicia keys and that hoodrat rihanna they all light skinned! And all them black dudes only date light skinned women because they hate themselves! Sometimes people get effected the worng way, some black folks feel ugly because of their dark complexion. I actually think its worse for a female.I know an ethiopian woman and some somalians who say I am not black, it makes me laugh. Also that model sessile lopez calls herself latina, I mean she needs to look in the mirror she is black! and, yes it is harder on the women, because they go for the woman first...in terms, of showing us all what a beautiful woman should like and what a quality man should have on his arm. there's a native quote i used to know by heart, right now i'll just have to paraphrase ...a people is not dead until the hearts of their women are crying. it's true. jim crow texts were based on ownership of the mother, because when you own her you own everything that comes from her. jim crow texts were not just about physical slavery, but also about keeping out minds in line after slavery. keep your eyes open, honey. keep having the courage to call out what you see and seek better for yourself. you don't have to read those magazines (or, give them your money by buying them). you don't have to watch those shows, there's alternatives out there, let that be what you look at. if people around you all seem the same way, you can drop them in a heartbeat and find a new crowd.

Princess MiMi: Read this

Princess MiMi: Read this it’s sorta long but worth reading. Colonial MentalityThroughout the African diaspora, black people internalized the racism they experienced under slavery and colonial rule. Bad habits are hard to break, and there is still self-hatred among black people today. With years of conditioning, societies were made to believe that blackness was bad, and anything associated with blackness was inferior and undesirable. This problem is also prevalent in Latin America. For example, Brazil has the largest black population outside of the African continent at 90 million, which amounts to roughly half of its people. Yet, despite their conspicuous presence in society, black Brazilians face discrimination, poverty, and lower education and health standards than whites. According to a “racial atlas” created by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Federal University of Minas Gerais, 65 percent of the poor and 70 percent of the extremely poor in Brazil are of African descent. In the Dominican Republic, Sosa’s country of origin, people are overwhelmingly black: 90 percent have African ancestry. Yet only 11 percent identify themselves as black. And as UN experts found, there is “a profound and entrenched problem of racism and discrimination against such groups as Haitians, Dominicans of Haitian descent, and more generally against blacks within Dominican society.” A strong anti-Haitian sentiment is rooted in the country’s history. Haiti is a former colonizer of the Dominican Republic, as was Spain. Yet, Dominicans only celebrate their independence from Haiti. Haitian cultural practices are viewed as inferior. The government has engaged in mass deportations of Haitians - and sometimes Dominicans mistaken for Haitians - while also attempting to deny citizenship to the Dominican-born children of so-called “illegal” Haitian immigrants. But a large reason for this hatred of Haitians is a denial of Dominicans’ own African origin. Simply put, sometimes it is difficult to stare at oneself in the mirror. For years, under the Hispanidad movement, the government of the Dominican Republic emphasized the nation’s white, Spanish and Catholic heritage, and conveniently left out the black part. The Dominican Republic is a nation whose hairdressers are known for their hair-straightening prowess and most Dominican women get their hair straightened. Although dark folks are the overwhelming majority, black skin, wide noses and ‘pelo malo’ (bad hair) do not fit the standard of beauty. So, hair relaxers and skin whiteners are in, and people will call themselves a number of things, such as Indian, burned Indian, Moreno and cinnamon - anything but negro (the Spanish word), or black. This is what years of submerging your culture will do. Certainly, the U.S. is not immune from this color-coded mentality. African-Americans historically internalized racism by pitting light-skinned blacks against dark-skinned ones, and using paper bag tests for admission to exclusive clubs. Black newspapers and magazines in the 1920s through the 1960s often featured advertisements for skin bleaching creams. Typically, with promises of “lighter, brighter skin,” these ads blatantly associated white skin with beauty and success, and depicted dark skin as ugly. Meanwhile, people of color in America still fight against the Madison Avenue standard of beauty, which usually takes the form of a malnourished white blond fashion model with slight facial features. Sadly, some celebrities of color join in the color-coded madness by lightening up and going under the knife themselves. And people of all colors and ethnicities risk mutilating their faces and bodies to look like distorted cartoon characters. Sammy Sosa and others must realize that try as you might, you cannot bleach out your history. great article. thanks.

anyways, let me break it down for some people. Hispanic blacks in America often do not call themselves "black " simply because , and to be honest, many are racist. Hispanics do not want to be put in the "AA" category. Hispanics are actually moreracist then you all even know. BTW- Nas is half Dominican, he raps about it, so I do not know how anyone is shocked.

SAMMY SOSA HAS AN INTERNALIZED SELF HATRED. HE'S OBVIOUSLY NOT HAPPY BEING IN HIS BROWN SKIN. I'VE LOST RESPECT FOR HIM BECAUSE HE LET THE STANDARD OF BEAUTY IN THIS COUNTRY BRAINWASH HIM. THAT'S HIS PROBLEM. MJ HAD A DISEASE THAT GOT SO BAD, HE HAD TO TURN WHITE SO HE WON'T LOOK ALL PATCHY. DO YOU DAMN RESEARCH! BUT YET SAMMY GETS A FREE PASS FOR PUBLICLY STATING THAT HE BLEACHED HIS SKIN? HE'S A BAFOON. WHY ISN'T THE MEDIA COMING AFTER HIM, YET THEY SCREWED MICHAEL OVER ALOT. SAMMY NEEDS HELP. HE CLEARLY DOESN'T APPRECIATE HIS HERTIAGE. THERE'S NO DENYING IT! THAT'S A FACT! HE CLEARLY HAS ISSUES AND IF YOU DENY IT YOU ARE FUCKING IDIOT! THIS IS SELF HATRED AT ITS FINEST. JUST LIKE PAUL MOONEY SAID, "EVERYBODY WANNA BE A NIGGA, BUT NOBODY WANNA BE A NIGGA". IT'S THAT SIMPLE! HE LOOKS LIKE A WAX DOLL. IT DOESNT MATTER HOW MUCH HE BLEACHES HIS SKIN. IN THIS COUNTRY YOU ARE A N-I-G-G-E-R! STRAIGHT SIMPLE. IT'S SAD HE'S TRYING TO APPEAL TO THE WHITE MAN. SO SAD. HE NNEDS TO DO RESEARCH ON HIS HISTORY. STUPID FUCKER!L

You can also be Hispanic and White as “Hispanic” more or less refers to ethnicity, culture, and language, not race. It looks like he denies his race side (African/BlacK/Negroid). true. You can be black AND Hispanic. There is a difference between black and African-American. You can be black AND NOT BE African-American. Lots of people are.

booyow: There are white

booyow: There are white Dominicans and there are black Dominicans…there are white jamaicans there are black Jamaicans. Since when were Latinos a race….I’ll wait.. there are only four races in this world: *white *black *asian *oriental Anything inbetween is MIXED RACE. Hispanic is not a race, European is not a race, African american is not a race...all of these fall under one of the above. They describe your culture, launguage and tradition not your race. A white man born in SOUTH AFRICA is still a WHITE man but his nationality is African. so SAMMY SOSA, from the Dominican Republic is a black man, he jus happens to come from a place where the culture is that of Hispanic.

White people don't tan because the hate their skin tone, maybe some. But the ones i know do it because the feel sexier and more atractive when they are and others get tan naturaly when they go to the beach. Bleaching should just use or bad sun burns where you can see 2 different skin tones or for acne... I wonder what does his mother, father and siblings look like do anyone have pics of them please post? Are they going to change their skin next? Damn fool. I hope the spotlight stays on him for doing this and maybe someone will look into issues like this that goes on in people of color communities all over the world because there are many people that wanna keep things like this a secret. We all know what goes on but few people bring it to the public other than Tyra Banks. Someone said that Dominicans are mixed raced just like African Americans. Not all African Americans are mixed race and if some were, most wouldn't have a problem with including their black side when asked if they are black unlike Dominicans and other Hispanics with black blood. Another thing, african americans don't hide behind their nationality we are proud to say that we are black whether or not it is obvious UNLIKE Afo Latinos and others. Someone said Sammy "The Clown" Sosa wasn't black he was Dominican ok then Flava Flav isn't black he's American. I wonder what these two men will be when they get pulled over by the LAPD, NYPD or any other police force. What Sammy "The Clown" did to his skin isn't gonna prevent him from being stereotyped, profiled or discriminated against. You're STILL a NIGGER to the ones that hate. troubles1974: Dominicans

troubles1974: Dominicans cannot diffrentiate between culture and race. When I attended college I met a Dominican who was 10 shades darker than me, and I’m dark. He refused to admit he his black. According to him they are classified as “Mullatos”, I told, “I wish him the best of luck as a Caucasian”. Yes they can. They don't want to. They think if they say "I am Dominican" long enough, speak Spanish loud enough, that you will somehow wind up in a trance and not see them as black people that speak Spanish. I have cousins that look biracial and they have two black parents and grandparents. These are some silly azz people. I wish them luck on that "I am Dominican while looking negro" train. I would love to see how the LAPD at 2am would react to that. They need to ask the Lord to give them some peace about their heritage because from what I can tell they have none when you have to deny who you are.

lmao you guys are getting

lmao you guys are getting your panties up in a bunch. If the comment does not apply to you as a black person, keep it moving.they are not exactly the same thing but bleaching and relaxing your hair are very analogous. No need to write epistles but black natural hair is seen as unkempt, nappy..etc. We slap on these chemicals on our hair, even though they burn and peel our scalp because we want to achieve this straight look. of course this does not mean every black person thinks that way but we will not sit here and deny that there are women walking around who think something needs to be done to fix their hair.you think natural hair is unmanageable because you have not educated yourself on how to properly care for your hair. just because relaxers is a widely accepted practice does not make it right, neither does it exclude its negative effects and insuniations that black hair is not good as it is. A lot of you guys are getting defensive about my earlier comment because the spotlight is now on what you do..but its so easy to point fingers on samosha or whatever his name is..

Duchess, if you all are not

Duchess, if you all are not black how do you explain your grandparents and ancestry? What you don't seem to understand is the difference between race and ethnicity. There is no way that all other countries can have blacks that speak another language and Dominicans and Puerto Ricans, Cubans which have large mixed race and black populations are somehow not? I understand that in many of these poor countries being black is equated with poverty, being uneducated, etc., but for you to continue the mantra of your slavemaster's self-hate teachings by disrespecting your African heritage when you are standing there darker than most Black Americans is mind-numbing. Do you really thing the YT man thinks you are "different"- NO. Matter of fact, since he now has more venom against foreigners than ever before- especially Latinos, he may be inclined to be more disrespectful to you can a Black American. You people cannot possibly be that delusional. Honestly if you hate yourselves that much I think its better that you not be considered Black. I say let your self-hate eat away at you and then all that will be left is the YT Domincans just the way you prefer it.

Dominicans cannot

Dominicans cannot diffrentiate between culture and race. When I attended college I met a Dominican who was 10 shades darker than me, and I'm dark. He refused to admit he his black. According to him they are classified as "Mullatos", I told, "I wish him the best of luck as a Caucasian".

Why use a bleaching cream to

Why use a bleaching cream to soften your skin? There are tons of products that can soften the skin without bleaching it. Why is Sosa using this cream? Simple answer: because he wanted to lighten his skin colour. "It has bleached me some." No dude, it has bleached you a lot and you're out taking pictures like your new look is a good one when in fact, it's terrible. I wonder what his explanation for the wavy hair and green contacts is? Two thumbs way down for Sosa.
