TV FAB: Jennifer Lopez Is New "American Idol" Judge + Tracee Ellis Ross Gets A New Sitcom

Fox wasted no time finding a replacement for Ellen on American Idol. It's been announced that Miss Jennifer Lopez will be taking the comedienne's spot for next season. The deets on this plus Tracee Ellis Ross' new sitcom on BET when you read the rest...

Jennifer took the deal as 'American Idol' judge to replace Ellen shortly after parting with Sony Records. It is also reported that while Steven Tyler has been offered a spot as a judge, former judge Kara DioGuardi has been let go.

Let's see if this change in line up will bring in higher ratings for show.

BET has reportedly recruited 'Girlfriends' star Tracee Ellis Ross to produce and star in a new comedy pilot called "Reed Between The Lines."

Tracee will play Dr. Clara Reed, a psychiatrist, wife and mom struggling with her job and a happy but chaotic homelife.

Production starts August 11th.

With this show, "The Game" and another scripted show produced by Queen Latifah called "Let's Stay Together," BET might actually have some quality television on its hands.

AI is the 21st century version of star search.... it is set up to introduce new artist that the "industry" has chosen for us the public to like and by their music... the sad part is that this time it won't work...... people want quality music.... this is the beginning of the end for AI... they are changing and firing judges left and right now because its over .... all the seasons of lies having people spend their money trying to audition for something that is not real that is rigged all those people hopes and dreams stomped on because this "company" had this set up for their gain not the gain of a real regular american idol but people that fit their formula..... sorry guys truth is what it is if you noticed all the genres in music have been field now..... game over

Wow this was just great news

Wow this was just great news all around (for me anyway) I will definitely be watching A.I. next season, haven't watched it in years b/c I was bored with it, but I think the new change is cast will refresh the show and bring in more viewers...well hopefully. And as far as BET is concerned I am soooooo excited about these new shows!! Hardly ever watch BET nowadays b/c of the direction it went from the 90s to now but these new shows seem like they will draw in the viewers who miss the old BET...as long as the shows are good....let's not forget about that "Somebodies" show......yeah lol, but like I said I'm really looking forward to all these changes. BTW wasn't there a rumor that Diddy wanted to be on A.I. too? If so he and J. Lo judging together would be very interesting...

Good choice! I like Ellen and all but never understood how a show that was supposed to be all about singing had a comedian for a judge. That cheapened it. I haven't watched American Idol the last few seasons but I may tune in to see how J-Lo does, especially if she stays true to the Bish we know she can be and is very honest, direct and to the point. None of that mushy Paula Abdul stuff! J-Lo could take Simon's place!!

Both JLO and American Idol must be desperate. Let me break this down. If JLo is signing up for American Idol for the next season, it must mean that she has NOTHING on her plate. Certainly no movie. Let's think about this for a second. American Idol's schedule is pretty tight. They visit the cities for a good long time and then the show is LIVE. She must feel like she is back on LIVING COLOR. They probably are only paying her $2-3 million. Wouldn't she be able to make twice that with one low budget movie? Poor Thing. As to American Idol, they must be desperate. How else can you explain someone who cannot sing, judging other people on their singing abilities? Even they must realize that's silly.

If anybody believes that JLo is getting between $8-33 million, then they are on the same stuff DMX and Foxy Brown is on. One of the main reasons they let Paula go was because she wanted more money. She made $8 million because she had been on the show for years and the producers thought that was enough. Simon received the salary that he did because he helped to create the show. Jlo is smart? Where then are the movies, the albums? This is the same "smart woman" who is now being sued for agreeing to a concert in a controversial country without first checking out its status. Listen Jlo was a fad, who came and went like fads do. There is no real talent there, so there was nothing tyo hold on to. My point about the $2-3 million is that this woman was making closer to $6-8 million per movies (make an average of 2 movies a year at least) and taking the judge position would tie her time up so she wouldn't be able to much else. I stand by my story. Both American Idol and Jlo must be desperate to go in this direction.

...ok "only $2-3 million"? How rich are you that 2-3 million isn't a lot? Of course that may not be a lot to J. Lo but even so that comment was ridiculous. I'm sure she'll be paid more than that, but even if she isn't this is more than likely a big P.R. move on her part. A.I. is HUGE and for her to be a judge on that show keeps her name in the press EVERY SINGLE WEEK...which will eventually lead to other roles that could pay ten times as much as whatever she would make on A.I. Besides all she has to do is pick contestants, listen to their performances, and (help) pick a winner.......seems like the easiest $2-3 million anyone could make.

Paula Abdul made $8 million a season and Elton John was recently offered $33 million for the season, but turned it down because of touring commitments; Steven Tyler may take it instead. Those judges make money hand over foot and Jennifer Lopez is not stupid, she knows that. Once they're back in LA, she can keep her family in one place. It actually makes perfect sense. Also, Paula Abdul was a judge for several years, and she 'sings' about as well as Jennifer Lopez, so if she can judge others' singing ability, then....

...k i agree with the singing part b/c everybody knows she can't sing lol and the dancing comment I kinda agree with (she's good but I've seen better) but the acting comment is waaaay off. She's actually a very very good actress ( i think that's what she does best) and she has a good acting range too & she's able to be believable in a lot of different roles and not just one specific character.... have you seen any of her movies?? Im gonna keep it real, in her prime Paula Abdul was probably way more talented than Jenny from the Block. Jennifer has drive, light skin, a big booty and was very fortunate to come around at a time when the rest of the country hadn't been exposed to a Rican chic. She was a novelty. Paula could dance circles around Jennifer, has actually worked as a choreographer and has respect of the people in the business on that end (Her nuttiness on AI kinda detracted from that though). As far as voices go, Paula may not be Patti or Aretha, but she bodies Jlo on that front too.

BET will be on a roll with these shows added to the network. There is still some foolywang here and there but if they can get rid of the rest of that ish, they will be winning! I stopped watching the network a few years back but lately they've had on movies I love like the Best Man and The wood. Keep it up BET and I'm definitely coming back. Can't wait for the Game and these two new shows. Get nightly news and some quality music shows (well first we need to see more quality artist) back on and the network will totally be a whole lot better.
