PETA Blasts Flavor Flav For Animal Cruelty

Did you know that chickens are some of the most abused animals on earth?  Find out other facts when you read what PETA had to say about Flavor Flav inside...

PETA is going after Flavor Flav for being mean to chickens at his restuarant.  Check out this open letter they wrote to him:

Dear Flav,

Greetings from PETA! After reading about the debacle involving employees of your fried-chicken restaurant in Clinton, Iowa, whose paychecks bounced, we're writing to encourage you to bounce one more thing—cruelty—and make your restaurant vegetarian.

If you thought your roast was bad, wait until you hear how chickens who are raised to be roasted are treated! Chickens are arguably the most abused animal on the planet. In the United States, more than 8 billion chickens are killed for their flesh each year, and 90 percent of these animals spend their lives in total filth and confinement—from the moment they hatch until the day they are killed.

More chickens are raised and killed for food than all other land animals combined, yet not a single federal law protects chickens from abuse—even though two-thirds of Americans say that they would support such a law. Chickens on factory farms are bred and drugged to grow so large so quickly that their legs and organs can't keep up, making heart attacks, organ failure, and crippling leg deformities common.

At the slaughterhouse, they are hung upside down, and their fragile legs are forced into shackles. Almost all chickens are still conscious when their throats are cut, and many are scalded to death in feather-removal tanks after missing the throat-cutter.

There's no reason to cash in on this cruelty. You can have all the same menu items as you did before—minus the meat. Delicious faux chicken is available wholesale from such companies as Gardein, and loads of palate-pleasing recipes are available free on our website: http://www.peta.org/living/vegetarian-living/recipes/. Faux fried chicken is as mouthwatering as it is healthy and humane, and we guarantee that it will have your customers yelling, "Yeah, boy!"

We hope that you will choose to reflect the true "flavor of love" by making your restaurant vegetarian. If we can be of any assistance, please don't hesitate to contact me at MichelleC@peta.org.

Best wishes,

Michelle Cho

WANT YOUR OWN AVATAR? GET IT HERE.

I agree! It seems easier to

I agree! It seems easier to live in ignorance but it hurts everyone and everything in the end. If the tables turned and humans became hunted and farmed by another species, people would be mortified. Animals are beings that have a right to life too. As it relates to healthy body images, I feel like Chanel and Zoe are relatively thin. Kelly Rowland's figure seems healthier and more fit.

Are you serious? Really?

Are you serious? Really? Animals are meant for food. Why do you think they were put here? In certain countries, people are starving because they won't eat a certain type of animal due to religious believes or whatever. Humans were not meant for consumption, although there are man-eating animals that exist among us.

I was with you until your

I was with you until your comment about looking like Zoe Saldana and Chanel Iman. Come on now. You want people to have positive role models...not stick thin ones and I think you went out of your way to pick the two skinniest colored girls in pop culture. Try your argument again from a more realistic and healthy point of view!

Ok Chanel Iman is my favorite

Ok Chanel Iman is my favorite and I can see how people may find her too skinny (I don't). But Zoe is normal. She's not too skinny. And I'm not saying that everyone should look like them but people attack them as if they are too skinny and that is not true. People think being "thick" is normal and that is not true either. Women need to be comfortable. I think Serena Williams looks great so does Kelly Rowland. As long as people are HEALTHY and making better food choices is the way to get there. Less FRIED foods and RED MEAT. There is a range i'm not saying you have to be thin but that thin is also fine if you're healthy. That was really my point.

I completely agree that no

I completely agree that no animal raised for human consumption should be ill-treated and I am 100% with Peta on that. However, Peta needs to put their issues to the chicken farmers and the USDA.

I saw this documentary,

I saw this documentary, recently, called "Food Inc." and to be honest it really did make me think about food production (and it's ethics) in the country. And I've tasted chicken where the bones are broken inside (the thing is fully-cooked) but the bones are cracked up bad--and it makes the meat taste terrible. When I saw Food Inc, it showed how they pump the food up with hormones and the chicken grow so fat that their legs can't sustain their body weight and they just break. Stuff had me wanting to raise my own food (in my mind ofcourse). But really, it made me want to buy more local foods and certified organic stuff. I'M SORRY BUT A CHICKEN WING SHOULD NOT BE AS BIG AS A DRUMSTICK!!! When it comes to me, I'm just picky about where I eat PERIOD---and yes, I had some fried chicken for lunch yesterday and it was GOOD!!! (That was my cheat-meal from healthy eating for the week). Far as Peta goes, they seem to go about things all wrong to me IN GENERAL. They wanna bring attention to an issue but half the time they just wind up getting on my nerves(THROWING PAINT ON PEOPLE'S FURS). I WISH A NICCA WOULD THROW SOME DAMN PAINT ON ME--THEY'D BE COVERED IN IT AFTER I'M FINISH WITH THEM. Peta, go after the big chains (like yall did with KFC) and leave this brother alone with his business. Better yet, go after the USDA and the laws that protect animals if you're that concerned. "Big money talk, let that lil money walk."

"Food Inc." was an excellent

"Food Inc." was an excellent documentary! It changes the way you look at food. In fact, my sister and I watched it together and started doing research of the farmers that raise cattle in the open and that are grass fed. There aren't many, but they exist. They are feeding cattle corn. They are even feeding fish corn. What's up with that?
Anonymous's picture

That was so eye opening how

That was so eye opening how they fed them corn and the slug in made when they showed the inside of that cow's stomach. And feeding fish corn is all kinds of wrong. The way the food we eat has changed over time through humans interfering is mind blowing.

I watched this documentary

I watched this documentary too and felt the same way. I'm all for animals maybe being slaughtered more humanely (even though that's pretty much an oxymoron) but my biggest issue is the disgusting conditions chickens and cows are in when they're being raised and that same filth goes on in the slaughter houses. That documentary made me want to go to local farmers and farmer's markets for my food too! The only change I made was buying grass-fed beef from Publix. It's a little more expensive but after seeing how gross the cows looked who are corn-fed standing calf deep in their own poop... Ewww. I agree. PETA needs to leave Flav alone and take on Zaxby's, Chick-Fil-A, KFC, Popeyes, etc. They use WAYYY more chicken than Flav. And the larger the demand, the more chickens needed and the more inhumane and disgusting the chickens are treated.
Smartie Pants!'s picture

I know the part about the

I know the part about the poop was crazy. I saw a study about how much of the meat we eat from grocery store has traces of animal feces in it. OMG. Your point about grass-grown beef it a good one. I used to buy cage-free, free-range chicken but DAG, organic stuff is high as a mug. That's why doing locally grown stuff works better for me. A lot of it is organic and fresh too, they're just not distributed in chain grocery stores.
Tatum Moss's picture

ITA! Everyone needs to watch

ITA! Everyone needs to watch Food, Inc. It's AWFUL what they do these animals and our food. I know that something must die for another to live, as that is life, but factory farming leaves no room for the animals to have a decent life and a honorable death. EVen if you don't care about animals (to be honest, I am NEVER going to be crying over a hurt animal), you should care about your HEALTH. The hormones, pesticides and antibiotics they pump into our food supply is slowly killing us! I've reduced the amount of animal products in my diet and am all the better for it.
Anonymous's picture

And we'd be crazy to think

And we'd be crazy to think that all those hormones are impacting us in some way. So many young girls menstruating and developing early...just like the chickens are developing ahead of schedule due to the drugs. Makes you think.
Tatum Moss's picture

There is no doubt these

There is no doubt these hormones are affecting us. I think that's one of the many reasons why so many people get cancer. There's a market in the hood that sells the best meats in town. Their chicken wings are HUGE! They look like eagle's wings. You are also right about our young girls developing at a young age. My friend's daughter got her period at the age of 9.

Here's the thing about PETA,

Here's the thing about PETA, they fight for ALL ANIMALS. ALL!! animals have died since before we were born and before our parents and their parents for food and clothing. This is a part of life. I do agree that some of the ways this is done is wrong. We are so missing the point here though, Folks Checks Are BOUNCING. Flav is writing rubber checks. WOW!!! and who gives a DAMN about another celeb trying to get extra fame by screwing on camera and then.... "oh no, i didn't know about that" Yeah what ever Nicki, Rihanna, Chris Brown, Beyonce (well she didn't know), that Kardashian chick. Man sex tapes are wack, i'll pass. How bout we talk about those innocent kissed that were murdered while at school in Brazil. bet u ignorant MF didn't know about that. too busy hanging on a celebs foolishness.

Remember when they went in an uproar because Obama killed a fly??? (NOT normal) Further, the president of PETA is a certified NUTCASE. Her will requests she be skinned for leather products and her flesh barbequed. This is the EXACT SAME nutcase who used to kill dogs with her hands and would even go in to work early as a dog-catcher to kill more. By her own right, she must have killed A THOUSAND of dogs.
