MOVIE FAB: Method Man, Terrence Howard, Cuba Gooding Jr. & Tristan Wilds Star In "Red Tails" (Trailer)

Some of Hollywood's leading YBF actors have teamed up to star in the new film Red Tails about Tuskegee airmen during World War II. Watch the trailer and see Ne-Yo, Tristan Wilds, Cuba Gooding Jr. and Terrence Howard in action inside...

Many of Hollywood's leading (and best looking) actors are starring in the much talked about Red Tails, a film set in 1944 during World War II about the Tuskegee Airmen. And our homie Wilson over at BlackFilm.com got the latest scoop.

The film, directed by powerhouse George Lucas (who is funding this out of his own pockets), touches on the two wars at once – one against enemies overseas, and the other against discrimination within the military and back home.

The cast stars:

Tristan Wilds

Terrence Howard

Ne-Yo - When talking about the film Ne-Yo said,

"I am personally waiting on ‘Red Tails’. ‘Red Tails’ is George Lucas’s film about the Tuskegee airmen. I play one of the fighter pilots by the name of Andrew Salem, aka Smoky. And he’s from Alabama. I had to develop a really thick Alabama accent. He chews tobacco. It’s really, really, really a character role.

I actually shot that before I shot this, which is odd. But I mean George Lucas pulled money out of his pocket to pay for this film. So this is his baby. So the one thing that I do about George, I don’t know a lot about him, but the one thing I do know is that it’s not going to come out until it’s absolutely right."

Nate Parker

Michael B. Jordan

Marcus T. Paulk

Leslie Odom Jr.

Kevin Phillips

Elijah Kelley

David Oyelowo

Cuba Gooding Jr. - When speaking about the film Cuba said,

"I’ve seen the movie, I’ve seen the special effects, and I can’t tell you how excited I am about that movie and for people to see it. In my career I’ve done a couple of movies that blown up the zeitgeist of cinema and hit social consciousness, like ‘Boyz N The Hood’ or ‘Men Of Honor’ or ‘Jerry Maguire.’ These are movies where people are affected by either a scenario or scene or environment they’ve never been exposed to, or it just hits them and in their everyday life they can identify with.

We actors live for that, and we’ve done that again with George Lucas’ ‘Red Tails.’ The movie is breathtaking, and the thing about it is, visually you haven’t seen the things that George is doing with these fighter sequences. It’s insane. The real people we portray, like my character Major Emanuelle Stance. He took these young black men out of the schools of Tuskegee, Alabama and into the Air Force Base in Italy and turned them into warriors. You fall in love with not just the pilots but these men that helped them along their journey."

Cliff Smith aka Method Man

Singer Jazmine Sullivan also appears in the film.

I know you write essays and

I know you write essays and ramble alot. But what planet do you live on where you think The Hep will make more than this? I am excited for both films. But this movie will make alot, this is the type of movie you go to the theater to see not The Help. Besides with George Lucas(the man who created Star Trek) behind it, this will get all the promotion it needs to make it a success.

SAD TO SAY FURIOUS IS CORRECT

SAD TO SAY FURIOUS IS CORRECT ABOUT THE HELP PROBABLY MAKING MORE MONEY REDTAILS IS ABOUT STRONG BLACK MEN , THE HELP IS ABOUT BLACK MAIDS AND WHITE WOMEN , WHICH DO YOU THINK THREATENS WHITES LESS WHITE PEOPLE DONT PACK THEATRES TO SEE STORIES OF NON STEREOTYPICAL BLACK MEN FIGHTING AGAINST THE INJUSTICES THEY PUT UPON THEM

Why don't we make a

Why don't we make a BET????? The Help is based on a very popular book and it has some of Hollywood's biggest names. Women support movies. And George Lucas did STAR WARS not STAR TREK. And it's still a historical movie that has Black men leading it and none of them BIG STARS. This movie won't make more than the DEBATERS and that had Denzel attached. This movie will make modest money. The Help will sell more. #JUSTSAYING.......
FURIOUS STYLES's picture

just to tag along..the Help

just to tag along..the Help will make more money because the author of it is white, and for people who have not read the book (most people on this blog aparrently) it is not a book that you would file under Civil Rights Fiction, or something of that nature...This is a movie that will eventually land on the LifeTime Movie Network because they will be making like a Chick Flicks, and historically, Chick Flicks make a lot of money, maybe not on the first weekend, but over time DVD sals, syndication, blah blah blah... i guess more annoying to me than anything is the fact that so many people talk about the help and have not even read it...more annoying than that you can tell many people on this blog dont read period, unless it's one of those Thug passion hooker books or blog comments. it's just sad

Thanks for correcting my

Thanks for correcting my mistake! You are talking about women supporting movies, okay how do you explain the success of Fast and Furious, Transformers... those movies don't target female audience. And back to the women moviegoers, look at all those fine men in the film, trust there will be plenty women taking their girlfriends to go see it. You think George Lucas will put his own money on a film to not do well. This movie will be a hit.

I hate to say this but the

I hate to say this but the state of Black Hollywood is in shambles. It's very sad that you always see the SAME faces in the same ROLES time after time after time. This movie is just like the movie that was about the All Black Swim Team, or the All Black Debate Team or the ALL BLACK whatever. The Tuskegee airmen was done in 1995 with Lawrence Fishburne, Allen Payne, Andre Braugher, Malcolm-Jamal Warner, Mekhi Phifer and Allen Payne and it was GREAT! I saw it on HBO with my family and it was really well done. I can't imagine this new version will be any better than that. I just wish we had more diverse stories to tell with a better pick of actors. This cast just looks like all the left overs from all the run of the mill black films that we see. NE-YO????Hollywood needs to get better stories and foster better talent. There is nothing FRESH about this new version but I'm more willing to see it than a Tyler Perry movie but the choices are always so limited. There has to be more stories than movies that just center around breaking the color barriers. I like George Lucas and I'm glad he is telling this story but he's not that brilliant a director and I'm not sure he will do this subject justice on the dramatic acting side of things but I bet the special effects will be killer. But I am curious to see how this will do at the BOX OFFICE.....
FURIOUS STYLES's picture

Furious you have to be the

Furious you have to be the biggest Debbie Downer that I have ever seen. I have been a YBF visitor for quite some time now and your opinions are consistently negative and brash, which is the total opposite of how you attempt to present yourself. I have seen you refer to your "faves" as uplifting, positive, and empowering, which is obviously something you admire, yet your tone and demeanor are so distasteful compared to the qualities you support. Instead of coming here everyday to rant about what you absolutely hate and how this person isn't on the same level as this person, maybe you should start with yourself. This "progressive" attitude you throw around with your fave celebrities is completly contradicting to the way you interact on various threads, which makes you a distasteful and unfortunate internet bully. I enjoy reading the thoughts of others, but not when it is consistenly forced day after day on others. I have YET to see you root for ANY underdog...You bash Kelly Rowland, Ciara, Mashonda, the list goes on, to uplift your "progressive" women, such as Beyonce (who I want dispute with), Rihanna, and Alicia Keys. I saw how you continuously compared Kelly Rowland to Rihanna on one thread, where you ran a list of her accolades compared to that of Kelly's. What you fell to realize (possibly because you're young) is that Rihanna once herself was an underdog that took years and three albums to get to where she is today. Those fancy magazine covers, sold out concerts, expensive threads, and high end endorsements you speak so highly of were once a dream...because she TOO was an underdog. I have never seen someone who in one breath talk about uplifting women but in the next bash any and everybody. I just wish you would take some of that intelligence and articulation and use it in the way you admire your fave celebrities, instead of using it to spew hatred.

@Anonymous 1:18pm First let

@Anonymous 1:18pm First let me say thank you for your comment. I'm always trying to improve and grow and some comments give me pause on my own posts and this one has some constructive points that I will take into consideration and moderate in the future. I'm not a "Debbie Downer" I just have high standards. I do support Alicia, Rihanna, and Beyonce because of the quality of their work. I also like Kelly Rowland. I just wish Kelly stayed more true to herself and did not feel this pressure to sell herself out to sell CD's. I just don't agree with Kelly being naked on the cover of VIBE which looks like the cover of KING. Underdogs are great but I don't like Z-listers with no real value. I just think we should not support mediocrity. My comments about this movie are valid. I'm not downing this project. I just wish the casting was perfect and had more actors. I don't see the value of Method Man and NE-YO when there are excellent actors like Anthony Mackie sitting around. Thanks again for your comment.

You're so SWEET! I always

You're so SWEET! I always hear comments like this because of how you said it and what you said. I can be a little...pointed at times with some subjects but I'll try to work on that. When issues like domestic abuse come up or when people try and tear down a beautiful person like Alicia Keys I get into a ZONE that I need to control better. And Rihanna is my girl so you know how that goes...lol But you're right you don't have to tear down a person to build up another person. Especially other women. We have enough things to deal with from men.

And your point was very well taken!!!! It's ridiculous!
Anonymous's picture

I can appreciate your stance.

I can appreciate your stance. But ANY movie with a majority black cast, that has a good story, good acting & incredible production value is WORTH SUPPORTING. And frankly I loved Pride, The Great Debaters, Akeelah & The Bee and look forward to the ALL BLACK WHATEVER movie that Tarji is starring in. We need as many of our stories about our contributions to the history of America on the screen as possible. It not only reminds/educated non- blacks about what we've done. But it also shows OUR kids of the great heritiage from wince they came. It was this same kinda rhetoric that has been putting black actors out of work for years. Watch a doucumentary called BaadAsssss Cinema by Isaac Julien that talks about how the Beverly Hills branch of The Naacp almost killed the black film industry of the 70's. Let's not repeat that. And George Lucus funded & produced the film Anthony Hemingway (a black man) directed it.
fli-die's picture

I agree with a lot of your

I agree with a lot of your points, but I'm guessing the difference between this movie and the one you saw on HBO is the special effects since that's George Lucas' forte. Unfortunately, WE don't even support our own films enough to make the powers take notice and that is why the current fare is Tyler Perry movies and a few ridiculous comedies to make us laugh. As for the talent in the movie, what do you have against this cast? So Neyo's in it. Have you ever seen his acting before? I bet you're clamoring for this movie Rihanna's going to be in. She's a singer just like Neyo. The Denzel Washingtons, Don Cheadles, Viola Davis and Lawrence Fishburnes of the world don't come around everyday? And who knows if the next one isn't in this movie??
Anonymous's picture

Ugh! Why can't folks just be

Ugh! Why can't folks just be happy at some progress. Wo cares if they're retelling a story that's been told before. How many movies have there been about the Vietnam War, Pearl Harbor, etc? You mention talented actors. From what I can see many of the individuals in this cast have proven themselves to be such. And How do you know Ne Yo isn't a good actor? Everyone deserves a chance. Look at Jennifer Hudson.
Anonymous's picture

This is NOT PROGRESS.

This is NOT PROGRESS. PROGRESS would be a movie like Super 8 with a Black Lead. I just want to see NEW STORIES that are not just retold stories. I know this is what Hollywood does but re-makes are just not needed. This story was TOLD by HBO with a much better cast. And I love Jennifer Hudson she made Dream Girls but also...the role had a LARGE singing part which she made come to LIFE. But there are TOO many GREAT actors like Derek Luke, Chiwetel Eijofor, Idris Elba, and Anthony Mackie who could have done this movie and KILLED the ROLE. I'm sick of seeing these Rapper/Actors types in roles that black actors who've been working hard should be getting. Actors can take a long time to develop their talents and establish a relationship with an audience. The dearth of young black actors may be obscured in 2011, with Washington and Smith -- not to mention Don Cheadle, Jamie Foxx, Forest Whitaker and others -- still making movies. But one wonders what type of entertainment world we'll be occupying when these stars are in their 50s and 60s and Hollywood has cultivated almost no one to take their place.
FURIOUS STYLES's picture

Ok, so why not give actors

Ok, so why not give actors like Nate Parker a chance to shine!? As a black filmmaker, I know that there are losts of struggling black actors and not enough black roles! So why not give someone who has the talent and the skills an opportunity to get on Idris Elba, Derek Luke, and Anthony Mackie's level!?!? But you know what, I have a feeling that this film won't do so well at the box office....because of negative people like YOU who won't give BLACK HOLLYWOOD a chance!
Anonymous's picture

I agree. We've had a movie

I agree. We've had a movie about the Tuskegee Airmen, which was good. Enough already. Can someone make a movie about Marcus Garvey or Denmark Vessey or Queen Hatshepsut or Harriet Tubman or something! It's darn shame that I still have to pull out "Love Jones" to enjoy a really good Black love story. That was filmed over a decade ago! It's ridiculous. Once again, the problem is that Black people don't own or control anything including Hollywood so we have to wait for permission for the real owners. SMH. What happened to the film that Will Smith was making with his film company about the Nubian Pharoah Taharqa? Let me guess...the real owners of Hollywood shut that down. That kind of movie could employ tons of Black actors/actresses.
Tahj's picture

And quite frankly, I'm tired

And quite frankly, I'm tired of them trying to tell our story. When are we going to step up and take complete control over telling our own stories and create our own images? It's ridiculous.
Tah's picture

THERE ARE MILLIONS OF STORIES

THERE ARE MILLIONS OF STORIES TO BE TOLD ABOUT US AS A PEOPLE THE PROBLEM IS NOT GETTING BETTER BLACK ACTORS IT IS GETTING HOLLYWOOD TO STOP PUTTING US IN A FISHBOWL AND DECIDING FOR US WHAT OUR PEOPLE WANT TO SEE AND WHAT TYPE REPRESENTS US. THEY MADE THE MOVIE RAY BECAUSE WHITE PEOPLE LOVED RAY CHARLES THEY MADE WHATS LOVE GOT TO DO WITH IT BECAUSE WHITE PEOPLE LOVED TINA AS WE DID BUT THOSE TWO CROSSED OVER, WHERES THE MOVIE ABOUT THE LIFE AND MYSTERIOUS MURDER OF SAME COOKE, WHERE IS THE MOVIE ABOUT THE LIFE CARRER AND UNTIMLEY DEATH OF OTIS REDDING OR ARE SOUL SINGERS NOT MOVIE WORTHY, WHERE ARE THE MOVIES ABOUT LANGSTON HUGES OR ANY BLACK PERSON IN HISTORY BESIDES MALCOLM X AND MARTIN LUTHER KING THAT WASNT A SINGER OR DANCER? WHEN HOLLYWOOD PICKS A BLACK ACTOR THEY STICK WITH THAT ACTOR TO PLAY EVERY ROLD LIKE ITS JUST TO MUCH TO HAVE TO MANY OUT THERE FOR AMINUTE IT WAS LIKE GABRIELLE UNION AND MORRIS CHESTNUT WERE THE GO TOO DARKIES FOR EVERY DAMN MOVIE ABOUT US. THERE IS A MOUTAIN OF TALENT OUT THERE A LOT OF POTENTIAL OSCAR WINNERS WAITING TABLES WAITING FOR THEIR CHANCE
Anonymous1's picture

Why movies about black

Why movies about black history to begin with really. Why not a movie about nothing that isn't pure buffoonery or a love comedy. Hollywood has made a lot of intriguing movies that were just plain entertaining, why don't we do the same? Why do we always have to convey a message? Just entertain us!
Whatever's picture

IF YOU DONT WANT MOVIES WITH

IF YOU DONT WANT MOVIES WITH A MESSAGE AND JUST WANT TO BE ENTERTAINED THEN WHY DONT YOU WANT BUFFOONERY. ISNT THAT THE POINT OF A BUFFOON TO ENTERTAIN YOU WHILE LEAVING YOU WITH NOT A HINT OF A POSITIVE MESSAGE , SEEMS TO ME YOUR ALREADY GETTING WHAT YOUR LOOKING FOR , OR ARE YOU ONE OF THE BLACKS THAT COMPLAIN FOR THE SAKE OF COMPLAINING
Anonymous1's picture

And that's the problem right

And that's the problem right there......we're still waiting decades and centuries later for those people to take positive actions on our behalf. How long are we going to keep begging for acceptance and waiting for them to "see the light" and portray us accurately and fairly? That doesn't make any sense. Why would they do something that would positively effect us as a whole which would change how we see ourselves and treat each other which would lead to them being put out of power? Not. That's way we need to stop begging and asking and waiting and get together and do things on our own for our own people.....just like they do for themselves. Black people have way too much buying power that we use to make them rich and wealthy instead of building up our own wealth.
Tahj's picture

THATS RIGHT TAHJ WE HAVE

THATS RIGHT TAHJ WE HAVE ALREADY PROVEN WE HAVE THE BUYING POWER BUT BLACKS HAVE TO STOP BOOTLEGGING EVERY DAMN MOVIE WE MAKE. TYLER PERRY HAS PROVEN IT CAN BE DONE , HOWEVER WE NEED MORE OF US DOING MORE THAN COON CHARACTERS WE NEED TO FUND POSITIVE STORIES AND TEACH KIDS THINGS FROM OUR HISTORY THEY DONT KNOW HOW MANY OF YOU EVEN KNEW ABOUT THE GREAT DEBATERS BEFORE THE MOVIE
