TV GUIDE To TARAJI: We Never Planned On Including You!

Annie get ya gun!  TV Guide just responded to Taraji P. Henson's complaint about being excluded from the cover story and promos for her new CBS show "Person of Interest."

Peep how TV Guide basically played Taraji after the cut....

Taraji took to her Facebook page yesterday to rant about being purposely left out of TV Guide's cover shot, as she is the leading lady in her new show.  Now, TV Guide just popped back.

Debra Birnbaum, the Editor-in-Chief of TV Guide Magazine and TVGuideMagazine.com, told TooFab.com that they never intended on focusing on Taraji's storyline for their cover story.  Ever.

"I made an editorial decision to do a story about the relationship between the two male characters on 'Person of Interest' and that's who I was going to put on the cover.  That has been my decision all along, ever since I saw the pilot. We're certainly fans of Taraji Henson and her storyline on the show was never intended to be the focus of our cover story. I don't know where there was a misunderstanding about this, but it's been clear to everyone from the start. I don't make decisions on who is put and not put on the cover based on race or gender.

"This week's cover September 26 issue features the three stars of 'Charlie's Angels' -- Minka KellyAnnie Illonzeh and Rachael Taylor. We are not pursuing a cover of 'Person of Interest' at this time."

This was in response to Taraji's now erased Facebook message that read:

WOW!!!! TV Guide is NOT including me on the cover with my cast members….....I am the female lead of a 3 member cast and I’m not included on the cover!!!!!! Do you see the shit I have to deal with in this business…..I cram to understand!!!!

So TV Guide has decided to drop the "Person of Interest" cover all together--which orginally only featured Taraji's co-stars Jim Caviezel and Michael Emerson.  They'll now be releasing a new cover story featuring "Charlie's Angels."  And all three of the Angel ladies will be on the cover shot.

WOMP.  Was TV Guide's response justified?  Or was it an underhanded slap to Taraji?

I don't understand the focus on just this magazine cover, she not even featured in the commercials. if it were not for this twitter rant, I would not have known she was on the show until I watched it.

TV Guide just pulled a bitch

TV Guide just pulled a bitch ass move. The show has not even premiered so how is anyone supposed to know/ understand the dynamic between the two men? They should not be introducing all of the main characters. And removing the show from the cover was a cheap move. And I am tired of people saying that Taraji should just be happy that she has a job. Excuse me? She worked hard to get that role and now she is not be acknowledgded at for hr work. Now I know to some of you that it dnt matter, since she is getting a paycheck and shit. But come on now... Its clear that come Emmy time CBS won't give a push for her since they already dnt want to acknowledge her.

That Editor-in-Chief did

That Editor-in-Chief did right...she gave Taraji something to really cry about, as our mother's would say. But watch Taraji selfish / ungrateful ass don't feel bad for getting the show pulled from the cover altogether like that. SMDH. She should feel real stupid right about now for the end result of her whining. I really hope the next thing we hear from her on this matter is an apology to her fellow employees on the show for only thinking about herself, and to her fans who did not want to hear that bull anyway. There are much bigger fish to fry, Ma Ma. You over there whinining over the smallest of matters, and look what it got you/the show. I don't even want to see the show now. She has really pissed me off with this. You weren't highlighted in the previews for the show either, Taraji.

The sad part about your

The sad part about your position is you are probably a black woman going against another black woman - for a racist publication. Although, I must agree this wasn't the best move, I still applaud her effort in bring light to this situation and exposing TV Guide. Oh and for you folks that felt she hurt the show and her castmates by her comments - wake up! All publicity is good publicity! And TRUST she has caused the show to gain much more exposure than that magazine could have dreamed of providing. I think their circulation is about 5k lol. That editor will be out of a job long before Taraji! Taraji 1 TV GUIDE 0

To all those saying Taraji

To all those saying Taraji should have kept her mouth shut, you guys are full of shit. I'm glad she brought this to our attention. I never knew she was in the show until she called them out. I saw many previews of the show and posters all over the place with just the two men. I never knew she would be on the show. She's been nominated for 2 academy awards for roles played on the big screen, so to get snubbed like this on the small screen is really a slap in the face. TV guide is full of shit.

The fact that you've never

The fact that you've never seen her in the 'many' previews and posters that you've seen should tell you something.... how important her role is in the show ... I can't

Taraji is right on this one.

Taraji is right on this one. How do you only include 2 members of a 3 member cast? Why would you leave one out? A hit dog will holler. TV Guide should have kept quiet about it. There explanation is contrived at best.

Yeah, TV Guide. Okay. That's

Yeah, TV Guide. Okay. That's a cute answer from the Editor, but the fact is some white magazine editors are holding on to the old industry belief that black faces mean slow newsstand sales. In other words, they think white readers won't pick up magazines with black faces on the covers. Even though that has been more than dispelled, this ridiculousness persists. Taraji was right, she was right to make a public comment, and I hope others speak up. Meanwhile, TV Guide has pulled this cover, and Taraji is probably catching heat from the show producers. So she's basically between a rock and a hard place - when all she did was cast some light on an ugly truth. Keep your head up, Taraji. Your courage will only mean greater opportunity in the near future, for you or someone who comes along after you. Hopefully others will be brave enough to stand by you and call TV Guide out. And while we're at it, we need to call out a host of other outlets for rare and stereotypical portrayals of people of color. I'm so SICK of it. In fact, that's why lately I watch Awkward Black Girl when I wanna laugh. You can see it at http://awkwardblackgirl.com. And this ain't spam, I'm just tellin y'all what I really watch and why. Keep shining, Taraji.

i dont believe them.. i think

i dont believe them.. i think they are just covering their tracks. the reasoning behind that decision doesnt make sense. She is an Academy Award actress..in a cast of other men... She deserved to be on the cover. For them to scrap the cover all together shows that something went on behind the scene .. the didnt want to but her on the cover after her remarks because then it will look like they caved or recognized the slight. By keeping it .. it would be the physical manifestation of their exclusion of Taraji. so be scrapping the cover all together ..they are basically ignoring and moving on.

The editor in chief is a damn

The editor in chief is a damn fool and should be fired!! It is a new damn show........so show all of the characters! Once we undertsand who the characters are then you can show their relationship on a cover until then.........MARKET all of the main damn characters. That is common damn sense!

The hell with Tv Guide. They

The hell with Tv Guide. They new that shit was wrong and that is why they pulled the cover. Why not include Taraji? Her role in the show is just as important as the others, I would assume that is why CBS and the show directors cast her on the show. Racist people I tell you!
LOL's picture

I think they should have

I think they should have given her a call to let her know not address it after she has complained. Nwys why did they even exclude her?
