Alicia Keys Addresses The Haters In JET--Details WHEN She & Swizz Got Together

Alicia Keys has something to say to her critics....and she does so in the newest issue of JET magazine. Check out what she had to say about her and her husband Swizz Beatz's relationship inside...

In a very candid cover story interview with Alicia Keys, she talks about everything including the pre-marriage drama leading up to her highly publicized union with mega hit-maker husband Swizz Beatz. And she's sticking to her story saying her critics are just trying to knock her down.

"…[They] were apart for some time before we ever got together…that doesn't matter to those who take pleasure in trying to knock others down…there's no need to fight what's not true…"

"I'd never met a person where I could be fully myself…Swizz and I live in each other's shadow. So we can occupy the same space and there is nothing but equality. There's something really powerful about that."

Well isn't that special. Alicia will be taking the stage for the 12-12-12 Sandy Relief concert at Madison Square Garden December 12th. And her Girl On Fire album drops November 27th.

The new issue of JET featuring Keys is on newsstands Mon., Nov. 19.

Pros about Alicia: Philanthropist, Great Piano Player, Strong Woman, Seems to be a cool Mother, Beautiful (not simply because she is mixed...Not Color-struck at all and despise people who are), Promotes positivity! Cons: Absolutely not Talented at all Vocally, Horrible song writer when it comes to Melody, Low voice when she talks and can remind you of a Man, Tacky Woman who stole a Married Man away from another Woman...No matter what (Swiss Beats was Married and yeah he may have been unhappy....but Alicia should have looked at (Jada Pinkett Smith who waited for Will to get his Divorce before she even talked about anything romantic with Will...and also Bekilta A.K.A Kita on the T.O. show who told that guy...to basically kick rocks when she found out that he was married and he had to come correct to even get in her face...and when he got divorced, then the relationship began) Alicia didn't do that and if people are going to constantly talk bad about Fantasia and even Angelina Jolie...then Alicia is not exempt!....Personally though, I'm more offended by her damn voice and horrible sounds...I really could care less what she does personally because i do not know her.

This is such a wake-up call and reminder that a marriage is a covenant between 3 – man woman and God. Let these husbands and wives completely finish a marriage before getting involved. What would have been the harm in waiting for the divorce papers before dating him??? Then she would never feel the need to “explain” herself because it would have been done in order.

Oh please with that bs. Marriage isn't a covenant between man woman and God. You do not need a freaking certificate of marriage to have God in your relationship. Marriage is a document which allows a couple rights under a government. And given the way our court processes things in this time and age, who knows how long it will take for a divorce to go through, especially if there is one party who refuses to let go. Get effing real. Was it wrong for AK to date Swizz Beatz? Yes, probably.. but not because he was still married at the time; it's because he was still dealing with a very new break-up (if he was even broken up) and hadn't even moved out of the house he shared with his wife, allegedly. There should have been a legal separation and evidence of said separation such as separate living conditions, etc. You people keep trying to make matters black & white. Well guess what? LIFE ISNT BLACK AND WHITE. It's full of gray and not everything, especially matters of the heart, are going to follow some stringent moral line. A moral line that you probably don't even walk your damn self. And anyway, MARRIAGE is an institution -- has nothing to do with love. Why do you think divorce rates are high as hell in the US?

If A Keys' public persona was

If A Keys' public persona was that of Rihanna, Angelina Jolie or Kim Kardashian her relationship with Swizz Beats would be no big deal. However, her brand promoted a wholesome woman, sisterhood and familyhood (i.e. A Woman's Worth, Superwoman, Unbreakable) yet her personal life did not reflect it. A lot of her fanbase were women. I think her actions shocked alot of people who bought into her brand. Turned a lot of folks sour. Especially women who could relate to being cheated on by a spouse or boyfriend. A.Keyes basically needs to re-brand herself and stop talking about that part of her life. Why piss Marshonda off & remind folks of the whole sorry saga. Good luck with that.

Don't know what album you listened to, but that album covered a wide range of topics including the cheating (When it Hurts So Bad, Why's it Feel So Good) and then some. She never presented herself as perfect and the lyrical content in that masterpiece of an album supported that.. not to mention her Unplugged. Maybe if AK was a more rounded artist she could encompass all aspects of love and life as Lauryn did.

TRUE...to find that out is disappointing but most of the drama happened behind the scenes. Plus she tarnished her own brand with all the cray cray foolishness she was going through over the years. It actually helped her in the sense that she was no longer on a pedestal...she became "human" flaws & all. So, while it is disappointing to know all that stuff about Lauren her star had already "dimmed" so to speak. No one was really surprised to know that she did "human" stuff meaning she was flawed.

Some things are better left unaddressed. I wouldn't have even commented on this because now there may be some hell between these two mothers again. I'm always amazed how "moral" we get about things. I agree that sleeping with a married man is absolutely wrong. I also know that sleeping with anyone outside of married is wrong as well.... but we live in a society that likes to pick and choose their degrees of morality & immorality. I agree there is no need to fight what's not true, you can look at that any which way you want. Not true that he was single and free to move on to another relationship, not true that his divorce was final, not true that Mashonda was lying about her being a homewrecker and Alicia was disrespectful towards Mashonda and her marriage to Swizz Beatz., as well as her family which includes a son. Alicia realized that it was not true for her to appease her fans with lies and therefore choose the path of least resistance, which is to remain silent and speak lightly about the entire matter. Such a cop out!!! And as far as her being a "girl on fire", I agree, she wears that title well, because a there is a difference between a girl and a woman. Alicia, I have one question for you, Why do you still classify yourself as a girl? Haters... Really?? I believe Alicia Keys was the home wrecker in Swiss and Mashonda's marriage whether she realized it at the time or not. In all fairness she probably just got caught up in the moment (not at all justifying her actions). However, people will think what they want whether it's true or not! So the best thing to do is just ignore the naysayers, keep silent, and keep it moving. Discussing the matter irregularly will only make people more suspicious.

Well after watching VH-1's

Well after watching VH-1's StoryTeller's w/ her made me kinda sorta get back to the reason I liked her early on in her career. The concert was refreshing and reminded me how smart and beautiful and talented she is. Just listening to her tell how each song came to be, was amazing to me. Even though I may never agree w/ who she married and how it came to be . Alicia is a RARE DIAMOND her and Whitney were soo articulate and knew how to speak to an audience and really knew how to connect w/ her audiences. I still give Swizz Beatz the side eye and hope he did not marry her because of his money woes. I won't judge her anymore about this, but in the end if she stole him she will lose him, and their relationship will fail. That will be her punishment. Only Gods knows and time will tell. I just don't trust him and if she thinks he won't cheat on her because she is Alicia Keys then she is sadly misstaken! I wish her well!

Because music is supposed to be like a diary, especially soul music. It's how artists interpret their feelings. Stevie Wonder made My Cherie Amour for his daughter when she was born. He made 'Livin in the City' out of his experience from growing up impoverished. So if you are a true artist, like Alicia Keys has depicted herself, then the music you make is the sum of your experiences and your emotions. And people take issue when the music one makes does not align with the image that they have created of themselves. But AK has never really been a true artist imho, so personally idc either way. Amy Winehouse -- however -- much more talented.
