YBF stars CAN take the international film markets....despite what those stereotypical naysayers claim. Check out the Award-winning Selma stars and Kevin Hart taking over Berlinale Festival and Ireland with their films inside...
Remember when (former) Sony Pictures head Amy Pascal reiterated that tired stereotype that black actors "don't sell well overseas" in those hacked Sony emails? She was speaking about the likes of Denzel Washington.
And remember when there was a huge uproar about the promotional images used overseas for 12 Years A Slave, and how only Brad Pitt and the non-lead white actors were used instead of the lead black actors Lupita Nyong'o and Chiwetel Ejiofor?
Well, Golden Globe nominated director Ava DuVernay is taking that stereotype to task.
This week, Ava and Selma stars David Oyelowo and Colman Domingo marched into the Berlin Film Festival, Berlinale, and received a standing ovation. She posted on her Facebook page:
"Black films can't travel overseas." That same old tired lie was proven wrong yet again tonight. We enjoyed a gorgeous gala premiere of SELMA at the Berlin Film Festival, complete with sold-out crowd and standing ovations. Over a thousand moviegoers gathered in that German venue, all focused on the work of unapologetic black artists. I'm jus' sayin'. Onward! #berlinale15
Bloop!
And also in Berlin showing his movie The Wedding Ringer:
Kevin Hart showed off a pic from his latest tour stop. And he snapped it while posing against a piece of the Berlin wall. Cool!
He also brought his film to Ireland, and it received a huge response:
He's been taking pics with excited fans everywhere he goes overseas. Peep the video above. Nice!
