Earlier today, rapper Kendrick Lamar appeared on The Breakfast Club where he confirmed his engagement to highschool sweetheart Whitney Alford.  Listen to the interview inside...

Today, "King Kunta" rapper Kendrick Lamar appeared on Power 105.1's Breakfast Club to discuss his number one album To Pimp a Butterfly. During the course of the interview K-Dot revealed plans to work with Dr. Dre, discussed his friendship and rivalry with J. Cole, and gave props to Tupac Shakur (calling him a prophet).

Most importantly, Kendrick revealed that he is engaged to Whitney Alford, his high school sweetheart and girlfriend of over 10 years! Here are the highlights:

On his battle with depression:

Says it was caused by, "The change.  The drastic change when you're around so many different faces that you don't understand and things are going on back home and it's out of your control."

On using a rare Tupac Shakur Interview for To Pimp A Butterfly:

Says he was given the unreleased interview by a fan in Germany. "Tupac is a prophet to me. And everything he's talking about is actually going on today.  It's a blessing how it came about. I appreciate his mother for giving me the opportunity to use the vocals."

On J. Cole trying to sign him:

(Laughs) He never told me that. I think by the time I met him, he wanted to get his label off. He was already signed but I was independent.  But that's a good eye for talent (laughs).  That's my boy though, I talk to him on the regular.

When asked if he is engaged to Whitney Alford:

"Yeah, yeah, definitely... I'm loyal to the soil." When the hosts offer congratulations, he adds, "[I] appreciate that. At the end of the day, you want to always, always have real people around you, period. Whether it's male or female, and everybody that's been around me, they've been around since day one... I always show respect when respect has been given, and people that have been by your side, you're supposed to honor that."

On why he's the closest thing some young people have to a "Reverend"

I say that because some (young people) their belief level is at an all time low.  They don't believe in anything.  So, if what I'm putting in my music is an act of God and he's using me as a vessel, what make me any different from somebody in church giving their word?

On a potential project with Dr. Dre:

“It’s a thing that we got going on that we waitin’ on. It’s a strategic move. If I could speak on it, I would. But that man is a scientist and we got a plan.”
