[UPDATE] Celebs Send Up Prayers For Director John Singleton, Reportedly Hospitalized After Suffering A Stroke

Celebs are sending out prayers for famed director John Singleton. He reportedly has been hospitalized after suffering a stroke. More details inside...

UPDATE: John Singleton's family releases a statement addressing his hospitalization.

“On Wednesday, April 17th our beloved son/father, John Singleton, suffered a stroke while at the hospital,” Singleton’s family said in a statement to NBC News. “John is currently in the ICU and under great medical care. We ask that privacy be given to him and our family at this time and appreciate all of the prayers that have been pouring in from his fans, friends and colleagues.”


Legendary director John Singleton is reportedly hospitalized.

B. Scott first broke the news about the Oscar nominated director, reporting he was in the "hospital after suffering a stroke." At the time, his condition is reportedly unknown.

Soon after, more details about the 51-year-old director's hospitalization comes out. Singleton's family tells TMZ John had flown back from Costa Rica and  the flight may have triggered the medical emergency. The source tells the site the stroke has been described as "mild" and that doctors are performing tests and also doing rehab. He's reportedly at Cedars Sinai in L.A.

Celebs, including Viola Davis, Snoop Dogg, Nia Long, Omar Epps, and more, served up an outpouring of love for Singleton on social media, praying for healing and a speedy recovery:














The iconic director has been nominated for two Oscars during his lengthy career: Best Director and Best Original Screenplay for Boyz n the Hood. He was the youngest filmmaker to be nominated in those categories. Other credits include Poetic Justice, Higher Learning, Baby Boy, and Four Brothers, to name a few. He also directed Michael Jackson’s video for “Remember The Time.”

In television, Singleton directed “The People vs. OJ Simpson: American Crime Story,” along with episodes of “Empire,” and “Billions.” He's also an executive producer of "Snowfall."
