John Singleton's stroke was far more serious than originally reported by his family, new court documents reportedly reveal. Details inside on the famed director's mother moving to take over his estate while he is in a coma.

After returning home from a trip to Costa Rica last week, 51-year-old John Singleton made his way to the hospital in L.A. to get a sudden leg pain checked out. It was there he suffered a stroke, which originally his family stated was mild. Now, court documents reportedly reveal he's in a coma.

The Boyz n the Hood director has a lucrative settlement agreement and several projects on his plate, including writing, executive producing & directing the hit show "Snowfall." Therefore, his mother says she wants to be in control of his personal and business affairs as she has done so for many years. She just filed papers in court to become the conservator of his estate, and the filing revealed John's comatose status.

The NY Daily News reports:

“On April 17, 2019, the proposed conservatee suffered a major stroke. He is currently hospitalized in a coma and is unable to provide for his personal needs,” the paperwork states.

His doctor submitted an assessment that said Singleton is exhibiting “major impairment” in multiple categories and “lacks the capacity to give informed consent.”

We truly hope and pray John pulls through and recovers from this awful turn of evnts. It is reported he is "unable to properly provide for his personal needs for physical health, food, clothing, or shelter."

His severe health issues come as a surprise to most as he seemed to be in great health and spirits lately:

Oscar nominee & director Ava Duvernay wrote a heartfelt message about all the support he's given her over the years, especially since he was the first black director to be nominated for Best Director at the Oscars.

He was also by Taraji P. Henson's side earlier this year as she received her star on the Walk of Fame. He directed her in Baby Boy, Hustle & Flow and even an episode of "Empire" back in 2015:

We truly hope he pulls through and recovers from this unfortunate turn of events.
